We were accused of stealing drinks. We ordered senior menu that comes with drinks but we're charged for them ask the. To refund drinks and told the one other person with us who drank water drank both the other drinks. He did not. Very rude manager. We eat there all the time and mostly it's great. But not today. Couldn't get a refill of coffee either.
I was surprised and impressed with Jimmy's. I had not been in there for ~20 years and was amazed at the changes. It is nice, well-lit, airy, and comfortable. The staff were friendly, attentive, and accurate. The food was well-priced, appetizing, well-portioned, and delicious. I have every intention of returning to Jimmy's with my family for many meals in the near future.
I was super happy with my meal. We went for breakfast and I asked the waitress for a recommendation. She said any of the Jimmy’s specials. So I ordered the country fried steak, and wow! Really good. I was worried about the whole gravy situation and how most places really mess that up , but not here. Pancakes were great. Hash browns were perfect. I remember going to Jimmy’s often as a kid and then most of them closed. Now that I found this one I will come back for sure.
I have not been to Jimmy's since before they remodeled. I am not used to the new decor, it is not bad, just different. I can say it was relaxing to the eye. The food and service was great, as usual. I had the eggs Florentine and my mom had the corned beef hash with pancakes. Both dishes were delicious and the pancakes were nice, hot, and fluffy. Though they now have a coffee bar, we had their regular coffee, and it was wonderfully dark and strong, I loved it! We had an excellent breakfast and will be back again.
My friend took me here and I was just amazed with my food. I ordered the Cinnamon Roll French Toast and I expected the small ones that you get from other places but these were huge! I definitely recommend this place to others.
The food here is really good and the staff is excellent and attentive! It is clear that the staff has great communication skills with each other and they are all very friendly. Guadalupe is very hard working and is always thinking of ways to provide better service. Going here was a much better service than a lot of the newer brunch restaurants in the area. Please show your support by going here! :)
Breakfast was excellent, had athe California omelette with home fries and their house made salsa. The pancakes were excellent too.
Wow this place is absolutely phenomenal. Their food comes in large portions for great prices as well as they have friendly service! The food itself is delicious, my top favorites have been the Denver Omelet (which comes with hash browns and pancakes/toast), the tuna melt, and their garlic toast. If you’re lactose intolerant, they have a large variety of foods without cheese or with lactose intolerant friendly cheeses. 10/10 recommend!
I really love the food ,the bathrooms where very clean 👏🏼 and the service was perfect 🤩
The food is amazing and the staff is amazing as well. One of my favorite spots now due to the welcoming staff and amazing tasting food. They also give big portion sized meals for a reasonable price!
Always great food, local favorite, known for senior population, many selections are a bit pricey ( $18+).
Love this place. We always go for breakfast on Sunday morning. Good coffee and food with friendly atmosphere.
it was an excellent experience all around. Food, Server, company i was with. Would recommend
To be honest, been here a couple times only cuz i am waiting for my nail appointment. But everytike I come, service and food are exceptional. Today I wanted a cold sandwich but I am very picky on sandwiches. (Not their fault). I like the sound of their turkey melt. But hot turkey literally makes me sleep and thats why I don't eat it on Thanksgiving. I asked for the cold version with just the bread melted. Thank you Juan, chef, for accommodating and making my unmelted turkey melt. I literally did my happy dance with my tappy toes in my seat, it was delicious! Thank you Jamie for the great service. If you see this you may not remember me, but you have been my server a few times, you are amazing! A little expensive for a double vodka redbull $21. All in all, highly recommended, great food and great service here.
Jimmy's is a well established Santee local hometown diner. The menu is quite varied & Jimmy's serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. There is a full service bar with delicious adult beverages. My 84 year old parents come to Jimmy's at least 3 times per week, sometimes twice a day. Once for breakfast & back for dinner if they are interested in the dinner Daily Special. *Spaghetti is their favorite. The staff "regulars" treat my Frequent Flyer parents like ROYALTY. My mom is grapple with dementia, and the entire staff is kind, thoughtful, patient & caring. I love the fact that my parents are always welcomed, always treated well. My father is treated with respect & gratitude for his long military service. I am happy that my parents have a wonderful restaurant, close in proximity, and caters to their needs. Jimmy's is fantastic.
We stumbled upon Jimmy's while unfamiliar with the area and decided to give it a try. We were pleased with our choice. The food was great — we went for breakfast for dinner — and the service was friendly. They have a broad menu, which was nice to see. Overall, it was a good experience and a pleasant stop in our travels. If you're around, Jimmy's is worth checking out.
The kitchen must have been having a stellar service. We had a large party and our food arrived all at once, everything was well-seasoned, and everyone that helped us was great. I would love to have had a non-alcoholic drinks menu either at the table or online.
Great breakfast place the corned beef hash is mind blowing and the chorizo omelette was spectacular. Thank you Lipitor for the great service highly this beautiful clean establishment.
Went there for a late lunch/early dinner with my in-laws. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles, which was on a 'waffle' day special ($10.99) and I got the 'experienced' menu 4pc broasted chicken dinner which came with a drink, salad, veggies, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Lots of yummy food! Very pleasantly surprised, as the last time I had it, well... ... It's gotten new owners since I was there last. 😀
Good for what it is and a great deal on their specials. I got the chicken pot pie special on thursdays. Chicken pot pie: 7.5/10 a little better than standard. Good amount of chicken, veggies and gravy is a little on the watery side for me, but not much. The crust or breading isn't enough and needs more thickness. Still not bad. Mashed potatoes: 7/10 standard Chicken soup: 7.5/10 a little better than standard. They dont skimp on the meat or veggies, but needs more flavor. Service: 10/10 no complaints Atmosphere: 7/10 standard nothing special Price: $ this is the main reason why they get 5 stars. $11 before tip for their special.
Pleasantly surprised! Recently renovated so has a cool vibe with plenty of seating. We were greeted immediately and served our drinks within minutes! Our party had steaks and burgers and they were all delicious. Everyone loved the food, it tasted homemade and even the veggies were seasoned very well! We will definitely be back to try more menu items soon.
Came to Jimmy's with my parents because they have been coming for years and this was my first time there. We started off with onion rings as appetizers and they were good. My mom got the huge cinnamon roll French toast. I took a bite and make it was so good I regretted not ordering it. My dad got his usual angus sirloin steak & eggs with hash browns. Took a bite of the steak and it was very juicy and yummy. I got the Broasted Chicken Dinner which was recommended from my waiter and it amazing ! Our server Jose was great at explaining the menu! They also have a FULL bar which I saw, and several TVs in there. The restaurant was clean and smell good which is always a plus !
Jimmy’s Breakfast Place is hands down one of the best breakfast spots I’ve been to. The food was absolutely incredible — fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Every dish that came out was hot, well-presented, and tasted like it was made with real care. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. What really stood out to me was how clean the entire place is. From the tables to the floors to the restrooms, everything was spotless. That alone makes a huge difference when you’re enjoying a meal. And the service? Top tier. Lupita went above and beyond. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we walked in. She made sure everything was perfect, checked on us at just the right times, and had such a positive attitude that it elevated the whole experience. Great food, clean environment, and outstanding service. I’ll definitely be coming back — and asking for Lupita again. Highly recommend.
First time trying Jimmy's of Santee. I was impressed by the quality of the food and found out they make most everything in house. The beef stroganoff was so delicious and the creamy chicken noodle soup. We enjoyed lunch so much we order a deli sandwich for dinner later. Will definitely be returning to try more menu items. Our server was amazing and even drives from Arizona to work there.
I've seen this place for years and never stopped in. I went on a whim for breakfast and it was amazing. The service from the greeter at the door, who was lovely, to the waiter were all smiles and offered wonderful service. I had the pancakes, sooo fluffy and delicious. My order came out so quick that it shocked me. Definitely going back to try dinner here.
One of the best breakfast spots in Santee! The food is always fresh, delicious, and served with that classic homemade feel. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair. The staff are super friendly and make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. Whether you’re grabbing pancakes, an omelet, or just a good cup of coffee, Jimmy’s never disappoints. Great food, great people, and great vibes — definitely my go-to spot for breakfast! ☕🍳🥞
You really can't go wrong with any item on the menu here! Staff are always friendly and on top of everything, even in busy rushes like breakfast and lunch and shift changes! They work together to cover drink refills, orders, food delivery's, and check ins -so nothing is missed. The menu has a good variety for whatever mood of food you may be feeling, and it's always cooked to order without issue. They have a full sports bar too, several TV's, and an outside eating area which allows (well behaed) fur babies to dine with you. ;) Lots of parking, never an issue, easy to get to, great for a quick bit or a longer gathering for a meal.
After my physical therapy appointment at Sharps hospital days ago (Wednesday 2/5/25, 11am), I was feeling pancakes. I figured, I’m in another city, try something different other than Denny’s. And, so, there he was, looking right at me from across the street - Jimmy’s of Santee. My partner and I walked in the restaurant, immediately greeted with a warm smile by the hostess. I had requested for an “ocean view” table (my code word for window 😊). Got my wish and there we sat, at a firm cushioned booth, with a window. I liked already. As I looked around the restaurant, I saw modern decor, various dining rooms, spacious aisles, lots of windows and a perfectly pleasant vibe throughout. I thought to myself, I wonder if this place gets lit in the evening (noticing a couple bar areas, one each side of the restaurant). Side note, some pictures on walls wouldn’t hurt. Our breakfast meals were delicious. The potatoes were surprisingly crispy golden lightly tasty fried potato bites. One of the best I’ve had yet! Our scrambled eggs appeared skimpy, nonetheless, our combo dish was 99 % perfect. Our server was easy going and on top of things. From his good natured greeting, politeness, attentiveness and patience, he was a 5 star. I forgot his name. Ugh. He read my mind before I asked for the check. “Yes, I would like a to-go box for my potatoes, please,” I replied when he asked me if I needed a box I also want to give a shout out to Faith, the hostess. Positive and friendly. Such a nice way to start one’s morning as one walks into a restaurant. Her smile’s a hit. Hey Faith, it’s time to go to Mexico! My first time at Jimmy’s was a wonderful experience. I would come back again. I recommend 👍🏼
Popped in for breakfast on our last day in the San Diego area. Location was close to our AirBNB. Restaurant was clean and well-lit. We were sat right away. The menu had a very broad assortment of food options. Our server was prompt and friendly. Food came out quickly and perfectly prepared. Never had to ask for water or coffee refills. Reasonably priced entrees with good portions. I would definitely eat here again.
We were looking for brunch in Santee and decided to try Jimmy’s Restaurant. I had the Pork Chop Dinner for $18.99 with Apple Juice for $4.29, and the Texas Scrambles for $15.99 with fruit juice for $4.29. The food is good, the atmosphere is spacious and very family-friendly. Even though I didn’t catch the server’s name, they were very friendly and compassionate towards the customers, which was nice. Maybe it was still early, but I really appreciated it.
Visited Jimmy's for Saturday lunch and we were able to order from both breakfast and lunch menu. It was quiet, perfect for families. Plenty of space, making it an ideal venue for private events. The dishes were generous portions and Service is prompt. We tried the new appetizer menus and it was enough for three, and I would recommend sharing them among four. Located within a plaza, parking is abundant, adding to the convenience. Indoor and outdoor seating options available. They offer gluten-free cheese and meat options, The restaurant has multiple screens make it as a go-to spot for game day gatherings. 5 stars for an old fashion American family diner place . Good portions, good prices, to the point, no extra.
Jimmy's has been remodeled. Locals have watched as Jimmy's faced some challenges before and during the pandemic. Now they have remodeled and it looks amazing. All new flooring, seating, booths. The restaurant to the bar now has windows and its much more open and light. The service was prompt and courteous through dinner and dessert. We went for dinner and ordered Tuna Melt, French Dip and 4 piece boasted chicken which came with a cup of soup, mashed potatoes and gravy. All were delicious and fresh. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was a little salty- but I love salt so it was fine for me. After dinner we enjoyed cheesecake and chocolate cake. Menu seemed to have minimal vegetarian optins.
I ate at Jimmy's for the first time while I was waiting for my truck to be serviced recently and was generally glad I did. My biscuits and gravy with poached eggs and bacon were very good. The eggs were poached soft as ordered. The coffee was decent too – better than chain diners'. Service was excellent, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was open, well lit, busy, and friendly. The cost of my meal made my eyes pop, but it is sadly a sign of the times and not something to direct at Jimmy's of course. At least the food and the experience were good.
It was pretty impressive that this family restaurant is very decent. We ordered an appetizer sampler which you can choose 4 from 5 choices. We had fried mozzarella, fried zucchini, Buffalo wings, and chicken tenders. I really like the zucchini and chicken tenders. My hubby loves the other two. For entree, we had the big rib-eye, which comes with a salad and a baked potato. The ribeye tastes delicious, even its a little bit over cooked, we asked for medium rare, and it was a medium. The baked photo was yum! You can also order cocktails since they have a bar. I recommend this place!
Lots of diner food. I was there at 7:15 p.m. and the servers were impatient to get orders into the kitchen. Please realize that 7:30 p.m. is the cutoff for food at dinnertime. They are open until 8:00, but only seat people until 7:30. The food is very tasty and there's lots of it. Breakfast is their main business, however they do have a bar and serve lunch and dinner.
We go there for the specials. Thursday is my favorite with the chicken pot pie. It comes out quickly and it is very warm. The taste is wonderful. Mom and wife share one together. I have one for myself because I'm still a growing boy. We are so full when we leave. I like the Beef Stroganoff and Meatloaf. The staff is very friendly and I think they are starting to know who we are.
Food is delicious!! Serving sizes are small & I would love to see the menus with more pictures of what their plates look like. Service is hit or miss but overall I love that it is a family atmosphere restaurant and that their food is good.
I went there for brunch with my mom. Since I hadn't ever been there before, I took a while to look for something I wanted to order. We told the server we'd like 2 coffees and 2 waters. He came back immediately with 2 iced waters and 2 straws but no coffees. We had to remind him about the coffees. He brought us 2 coffees and a bowl of half & half creamers. I saw that another table had flavored creamer, so I asked the server if they had different creamers, and he said, "Yes, we have vanilla or hazelnut." We asked for vanilla, and he brought that out right away. The server seemed to rush us to order something, but at other tables, he seemed to be very friendly to them like he knew them or something. When he'd go into the kitchen area, he was creepily staring into the dining area through a window they had. I will say that after we did get our food and start eating, he was very attentive but still not really "friendly." Overall, it was an okay experience. I may come back with my husband for lunch or dinner sometime in the future.
Very good diner food. Prices had to rise because of the pandemic but quality still top notch. Recent remodeling of the entire restaurant creates an inviting and modern atmosphere. Highly recommend the pie for dessert. Many choices (they are a very good bakery to go) of desserts but the pies are very fresh and large portions.
Excellent service with normal food to enjoy.
Food ok, too pricey, even at senior prices. my second visit in a few months. I had a Denver omelet, very tasty. Tried the chessey hashbrowns. Not to my liking, noticed the table next to me, and I also ordered chessy hb Seems popular. Just me. Not giving food a negative rap. The cost of dining out getting to high, so I expect more to be satisfied when spending $40 on breakfast for 2. One of the items was a short stack of pancakes. An omelet, the other, and two drinks. Time to stay in and cook.
Good food, clean place. Consistent.
They give generous portions at reasonable prices. I particularly enjoy the broasted all white meat chicken with potato salad and coleslaw from the "experienced menu." The service in the bar area tends to be slower than the dining area.
The only disappointing thing about our visit was the hostess. She was dry toast. Not much personality. Once we were seated, our waitress was awesome, the food was even better than I remember (it's been several years since we've been to Jimmy's), and I love the remodel! I'm looking forward to making more visits!
Real good breakfast meals. French fries excellent. Music perfect and server was real friendly. A very relaxing place to eat.
I'm on a hunt to find the best biscuits and gravy, and we went there on a suggestion of a friend. The gravy was really delicious, tasted like sausage. However, the biscuits, those soft, were very flat. Flat. When I was little, my family used to go to Jimmy's all the time. It has gone through a major renovation since then, very new, very modern. Friendly restaurant. I remember from growing up. My friend ordered the onion rings appetizer. Nice basket of onion rings, could have been more golden. However, he only got the tiniest little cup of ranch dressing to go with this huge basket of onion rings.
I am all about service. When you have to flag down someone for a coffee refill and the server never checks back it's a problem with service. However the place is clean and has a good vibe. Staff is friendly and food was great. Reasonable prices and portions.
The food was good. They have a large menu and serve it all day. We got spaghetti while my son got a Philly cheese and my husband got breakfast. The waitress seemed stressed and maybe understaffed? We were visiting from out of state and wanted a picture with our family but didn't ask because she was stressed and rushing. The bathroom was out of tp which was fun.
Food is very average but not bad. I’d come here again. Service was great and relatively fast. Decor looks like we were in someone’s backyard but sometimes that can feel like a good thing. It wasn’t very packed but by driving by almost every day, it doesn’t usually seem to be too packed. With that said, they were out of a lot of things on the menu which was Surprising since not many people often come here. The sandwiches don’t have very much ‘filling’ In them and they got my order wrong but the food was well. If you’re wondering if you should come here, my answer is: why not?
The food is good along with the portion sizes as they are nice as well. I'm not sure if it was the waiter who was possibly having a bad day, he was rude and made it feel like can you guys hurry up, eat , then leave. I didn't feel welcome in their restaurant. That's my opinion. The Food is good though.
Sub-par quality for the price. Steak was flavorless except for the grill marks that left me with a burnt meat flavor in my mouth but that's it and on top of that the strip steak was more medium than medium rare. At $16.00 the steak should have something going on in the flavor department or else drop down the price. Now all that being said the unsweetened tea was perfect. If I'm in the area and want a tea I will be making a stop. Most important thing though to me is customer service. There servers are on the ball. They knew their regular customers very well. The food service was expedient and they were very attentive and removed used dishes etc promptly. That's what got them 3 stars. Bottom line is food was edible and that's not a very great compliment. To be fair they do have apparent regulars so maybe my entre was a fluke bad offering. If I do find myself there again I'll try another menu item. Thanks
First of I need to share we went in few minutes after serving had stopped (7:30 pm). The hostess said it would be alright. For this alone I am grateful. The restaurant remodel went well, the decor is very nice. I had the touchdown breakfast, everything was delicious. My wife had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. Everything was cooked very good and especially the deliciously different gravy. It provided the the right flavor. . We will be sure to go back
It's more of a sports bar and where old guys go to eat dinner alone. The food was like diner food. It wasn't great but it was terrible. I needed more seasoning, they forgot my salad, we had to flag the server for our forgotten salads and again the food needed flavor. Don't get the Chilli, it's not good. I wonder if it's cooked in a slow cooker. That's were we get the flavor.
Tough to review this Bc the pot pie was tasty despite the chicken bone that almost cracked my tooth. Then instead of making a fuss I said idk see what you can do, and they assured me that this happens sometimes. This left me feeling rough, but finally talked to manager and she did offer me some sort of discount next time, and it is good they use real chicken… but if this had happened to somebody else I wonder what would have went down. Either way, this is why reviews are skewed. There should be separate categories for service, quality of food, and cleanliness etc.
I had their Thursday special, chicken pot pie. It came with soup or salad. I chose the Chicken Fidelio soup which was very good. The chicken pot pie which was my main reason for going there. The flavor and the pie crust covering was bland in flavor and definitely not a flaky pie crust. The mashed potatoes were salty which I didn't eat. Unfortunately my choice was not the best... maybe other people like the pot pie but definitely not me.
Good alternative to Denny’s or IHOP. I rather go here than the others places. The only negative I would have to say is there is an older Mexican dude (40s) that is slow with service. Just horrible. When I go there, I always sit in an area that has a female Mexcian waitress. I forgot her name, but she is always great!
The food was bogus as hell. Food was too oily and the beans i got was way too salty. Tasted like it came from a can. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. Its not a taste i would want to go to back again.
The food was not great, drinks were empty and we were in need of condiments. The staff was very inattentive and were in the back laughing and story telling instead of waiting their tables. Pretty disappointed.
Came here for dinner on a week night. Let me tell you in advanced that the food portions are humongous! We ordered the 12 oz rib eye and two 5 oz pork chop. They both came with soup or salad. I got the soup of the day which was tortilla soup and my friend got salad. You also get mash or baked potato. I got baked potato and friend got mash potatoes. Both came with a side of corn and peas. The sampler included any 4 items. I got chicken tenders, potatoes skins, zucchini chips, and Buffalo wings. Didn’t get mozzarella sticks. The zucchini chips were the best. Everything was flavorful, almost too flavorful as it was a tad bit too salty. Both the rib and pork chop had to be chased down with the peas and carrots. It looks like during the day, they have a deli serving Boar’s Head meat. Which means the sandwiches on the menu must be from this too. The restaurant has lots seating but only one of the dining room was being utilized.
The service is different than it used to be. It used to feel more Mom and Pop, like with super friendly service. We told the server that our rootbeer needed to be changed, and he instantly said he could tell by the dark color that it didn't need to be changed, I don't like club soda and that's what it tasted like. It's unpleasant when a server doesn't validate your request and tells you you're wrong. I ordered an Angus cheeseburger. The fries were awesome. The burger was dry, so I drowned it in condiments. The server didn't look clean, and he kept mopping his face with his hands and touching his nose., kinda gross. The server had the whole floor, and he seemed to keep up with all of the tables just fine. His body language and choice of words were off-putting and not really compatible with the hospitality industry. My man got the country fried chicken and hash browns with eggs. He just drowned it in extra gravy. If I do go back, I will be ordering just a huge order of steak fries with a bowl of ranch. Their fries are just that good. Oh, and I gotta say the restaurant and restrooms were really clean. Just overall, meh.
Took my mom here this morning. My husband and I love Jimmy’s. The food was excellent as always but for some strange reason my mom and I sat there with only one other person in the restaurant, 2 servers, a hostess and a busboy and NEVER got an offer of a refill on our iced tea. We were there a little long killing time until her hair appointment but there was LITERALLY only one other customer in the restaurant and it was a $45 bill for 2 for breakfast. I can’t FATHOM why no one even approached us after they collected our money and no one offered us a refill while we were eating. I know this might sound petty but AGAIN…$45 for 2 for breakfast. Our meals were only about $17 a piece so how much are iced teas??? $10??? And you can’t bring one single refill? Then you see two ladies there chatting with empty glasses, leaving a $10 tip and you STILL can’t bring more tea??? Super sad cuz we love jimmy’s, but we won’t be coming back soon. You’re bad!
Nice atmosphere and service. We were sat down immediately, drinks and food order taken and served quickly. The food was edible, however the waffle and pancakes were a bit doughy. The score gets lowered a bit for the quality of food, however, it is prices that really hurt the score! The prices are outrageous!! $11 for a short stack of plain small pancakes and $18 for a waffle with bananas (no eggs/bacon/sausage for either of us and we both got water to drink). It is extremely clear that the price gouging is to pay for their renovations. Service and atmosphere do not make up for subpar and overpriced food. We will not be returning!
I’m writing this review because my credit card got charged double the tip amount I wrote on my check. Capital one flagged my transaction and asked me to verify the tip amount via email. If I didn’t receive an alert email I would have been charged 40% tip. I’m sure I only wrote down 20% tip. So I’m disappointed that the amount was changed. As much as I love the food there, I will not be going back.
Have eaten here in the past and always had a decent meal. But this time it was pretty disappointing. We were there in Dec 14 at noon. We ordered breakfast items because we both wanted pancakes. I had the Country Fried Steak entree and my wife ordered the veggie omelet. Service was decent at this point and our food arrived shortly. When our server brought our food, I requested an extra quantity of syrup and she told me she would bring it right away. BUT THAT NEVER HAPPENED as it appears she promptly forgot about it. The restaurant was not overly busy, and as near as I could tell, she only had maybe two additional tables to take care of at the time. But no extra syrup... as I requested, and she acknowledged at the time. My meal was good as far as I could tell (more on that later) and everything tasted fine. My wife was reasonably happy with her omelet although she did feel it was primarily a Spinach Omelet vs a Veggie Omelet (meaning, A LOT of spinach). She ate most of it, but not all, because she tired of so much spinach. But the food was ok. At that point, we paid our server (hadn't seen her since food delivery), no mention of the requested syrup, and we returned home. Home was about a 15-20 min drive (San Carlos) and when we got home, I immediately had to pay a visit to the bathroom. My stomach was making some not pleasant sounds and my visit to the bathroom was more liquid than solid if you get my drift. IMPORTANT - I did feel ok - but something was not sitting well with my digestive tract. So maybe this was just a one off. As I said, the food did taste fine (other than the over abundance of spinach in my wife's omelet). Will we return to Jimmy's in the future, perhaps as we've had good meals in the past. But my recent experience does give me pause.
TLDR: there are much better and tastier breakfast food options in Santee for the same amount of wait time and higher quality. I had better eggs in Army Basic Training I try to make mostly positive reviews, however this will not be one of them. So we like to try out the breakfast places around town and thought we'd give Jimmy's a shot. We got there and the person up front wasn't that welcoming. The older man who came to our table was very nice, the server was ok but had no interest in friendliness or customer service, however the person who brought the food slammed the food on the table which was weird. Then, in an almost empty room, they sat a loud couple right behind us. I went simple with the meal, which I usually do at a new place before ordering something like eggs benedict. Scrambled eggs and bacon. Those were literally the worst scrambled eggs I've had in my life. And that's even compared to basic training eggs. They were chewy! Both of our meals had crazy chewy eggs and bacon that was about as far away from crispy as you could get. Biscuit was ok.. No offer for a drink fill. Got up because were ready to leave and just the three of the four people were standing up front talking to each other. (Not the very nice older man) Maybe we just had a bad experience. Maybe because it was Veterans Day? It did a good enough job in this visit to make us not want to go back. This feels like a place that grandparents go to to complain about life and stare at each and every person that comes in.
Will update after we try the food to give an honest review on how it tastes. However, when I tried to order two orders of wings and asked for all flats, the girl at the register was very friendly and checked with the kitchen. Unfortunately, they said the wings are already premade, so they couldn’t do just flats. I decided not to get the wings since they’re premade and couldn’t accommodate that request. Update: The French fries were soggy, and both the fries and onion rings tasted like they were fried in old oil. The sandwich was a 3/10 — definitely not worth $18. This was my first time trying this place after living in Santee for eight years, and honestly, I probably won’t be going back. I will also add the restaurant appeared to be very clean and tidy.
Came here Sat 10.19.24 approx 1:30pm for the first time. Jamie was sharp and very nice and very pleased w her. But we ordered the Meatloaf w mashed potatoes and Cheeseburger Combo. Burger was very plain and meatloaf was disgusting, was so bad it tasted like liver and even made my breathe stink. Iam NOT coming back and not to mention way overpriced for assisted living food! 👎👎🤮
I grew up in the 70s in Santee and I remember seeing this restaurant on the corner every time we went down Mission Gorge Road I’ve never ever been into that restaurant well now I finally went in last week with my daughter and my grandkids and I can’t believe that they’re still in business. The food was so bad. It had absolutely no flavor in anything we ordered. I’m surprised it’s still in business. With all this competition, such as Denny’s canes Chick-fil-A, even during Wienerschnitzel I can’t believe Jimmy’s is still in business. When you look at the pictures of their food, it looks so good that it looks appetizing. How pictures can fool you though. The guests that eat there come in, probably bring their own seasonings.😁
This is sad to write. The Jimmy's that once was is gone. I dined there with my mother and my 4 year old son for lunch recently. There was no check in or organization for guests coming into the establishment, just a host who appeared every 5 minutes to ask who is next. We were seated and had a decent wait for our waiter to arrive in order to be told what options were on the kids menu as they had no printed menu available. Once we were able to place an order, my mom asked for coffee and creamer. My son drank a few of her creamers and almost immediately threw up on the table as there was one that was extremely sour. About 1/3 of the served creamers were bad. We finally found our waiter to let him know and we were told that he knew some creamers were a problem as a night server forgot to place them in the fridge. Somehow he knew there was foul milks and still chose to gamble on serving it to us. If this weren't bad enough, we were served more milks that he said he *thinks* these are better without any confidence. Our waiter then sat with a customer at her table and served our food cold after a decent amount of waiting goes by again. My mom had to ask him to microwave her egg dish as they were just gross cold. While taking our dishes, we were given our bill and told that our waiter is our cashier. Over 20 minutes passed and our waiter never returned to our table. Going to the front and waiting for the hostest to pay our bill, she came out and let us know we needed to pay the waiter. We tell her we cannot wait longer and she says we can only pay our waiter. We insisted she handle it, and finally could pay our $65 bill for two adult brunch meals and a kids meal, so we could leave. Only to have my kid full of sour milk throw up for the next two hours. I will never return seeing how little they care about customer service or experience. I will happily take my money elsewhere.
Horrible! My husband remembered this place like as amazing food and atmosphere. I ordered Cobb salad with chicken instead of turkey. They brought me salad with turkey and grilled chicken on the top. I asked for a plate to remove turkey from my salad. Then: my salad didn’t have avocado and bacon. So I’m not even sure what salad did I get. And they charged us extra for the chicken. Never again
Bought a bottle of Champagne and had to have it removed after 1 sip due to it being completely flat. The bartender argued the bottled was just opened. I asked if she could swap the bottle out or if I could just order a glass of the more expensive option. She returned to say they didn't have the other option as they were out and the Mgr in the back told her to tell me that it's not real Champagne and that's why it's flat. The mgmt here is poor and a coward, forcing their staff to deliver lackluster answers. For the record, the Champagne should not be stored laying down next the the chilled wine, it needs to be stored upright. I hope this review allows them to learn at least that much so they can improve on their mgmt and service.
I love broasted chicken but today at Jimmy's it was horribly over cooked. I sent it back and asked that it not be overcooked. 30 minutes later the waitress returned with a new batch, also overcooked. My dad began cooking broasted chicken when it was first invented around 1957 in the little town of Bancroft, Iowa. Overcooking is easy to do since the chicken goes into a pressurized cooker. When the timer goes off that it is done, around 10 minutes, the chicken must be removed quickly or it over cooks. This is the second experience I have had at Jimmy's with the same result. However the last time when I sent it back, it came back golden brown. This time, no luck. They did deduct the meal off the bill but left me hungry as everyone else had finished their meal and were ready to leave.
So angry! Vegetarian nightmare. I ordered the sampler platter and said NO Bacon on the potato skins. The platter arrived with 4 huge potato skins on it. After eating 1/2 of one... realized it was full of bacon. Finally got someone's attention and they said they would fix it. The waiter came and took back the 3 and 1/2 skins... and brought me 3..... 3 TINY skins..... 3. Not the original 4 🤬
My fist visit after the remodeled has done, is a very nice looking place, clean and comfortable. But tge food is very bad, no flavor, very poor pirtions, not even a garnish on it, I had the pork chop and eggs, I asked the server to make sure my meat is super well done twice, he looks like haven't slept well the night before, when I got my plate the first thing I noticed is my chop not cooked the way I asked. He took back to the kitchen few seconds later he brought back deep fried well done but super dry, like a chicharron, I have to get up to my own condiments because he nerve gets me some, even worse he nerve asked me if I want for coffee. Bad service, bad food
I went for $5 off my birthday and the guy said there was no manager. So I lost a reward, also, service was not great
Same cheap ingredients, same greasy poor quality food as years ago. My last time here.
Yuck. I'd rather have frozen food that I heat up in the microwave than the food they cook here.
Just stopped in for a Sunday breakfast. Was sat and the friendly busser got my drink. Then sat for another 15 minutes and no server ever visited my table. A waiter made eye contact with me twice. There was only one other table with customers in my section. There were 3 other tables with customers in the middle section. Far from busy. Walked out and the hostess ignored me. Went to The Omelette Factory. Been to Jimmy's in the past a few times since the remodel and the decor is a nice vibe. Food was good on those previous visits but if they are going to ignore me, not going back. Live in Santee and eat out 5 times a week, including every Sunday morning. Disappointing that I can't go here ever again.
