The food was all so fresh and tasty, even the gelato was home made! Everyone who worked here was so kind, and the atmosphere was perfect. I told my husband several times that I felt like I was a kid again and at my aunts house. We’ll be back :)
A place that will remind you of dinners at your grandmas house, the atmosphere is cozy and makes you feel at home. The person hosting us, Sal, was phenomenal and very attentive to answer any questions we had. All the food tasted fantastic, knowing it was made with passion and a love to provide delicious home made food. From the appetizer to the home made gelato, let’s just say I continually telling myself “Wow.” Because it was delicious and reminded me of my grandmas home, even though she cooked different food, it was the thought of how much effort and time was put into it and presentation. Please don’t skimp on this tiny little place, I such bite was so comforting and warming.
What a wonderful way to spend our evening. Great service and fabulous food! Portions were very generous too. There was a little wait, but so worth the wait! Would highly recommend.
Many years have passed since we dined at the Appian Way. Fortunately, very little has changed. Same sign, dining room and terrific homemade Italian food. We arrived at 5 o’clock and were the sole dinners for a while. All courses were well prepared and delicious. Their unique cold antipasto is a full plate, a meal in itself. The eggplant rollatini and linguini aglio are also sizeable and very tasty. It was a comfortable, reassuring and timeless dining experience.
First timer. Dinner for twelve. Long wait times? Yes, but that was expected and considered normal as they make everything fresh and to order. Small place but clean and with a friendly staff. Everyone I was with gave the place a solid five stars. I gave it a four due to the meal I ate. The veal parm had a texture I wasn't expecting and the flavor was off. Not sure if it was because I've never had "fresh" veal parm? My wife claimed the fried calamari was the BEST she'd ever had. Fresh baked bread was good if a bit 'yeasty' and the oranges plate was a surprise hit with all. Kids had pasta with butter but they weren't into the homemade pasta. I tired the fettuccine alfredo and that is what I should have gotten. That was a five star plate. Next time then. The desert was also a hit at the table. Give this place a try if you like Italian food.
Love this place!! From the amazing service to the delicious homemade pasta... everything was perfect!! If you love great Italian food, great atmosphere and great service... you'll love Appian Way!!
I recently visited the Appian Way Restaurant in Schenectady and had a fantastic dining experience. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a classic Italian charm that makes you feel right at home. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to ensure we had everything we needed. The menu offers a great variety of traditional Italian dishes, and the portions are generous. The homemade pasta is a standout—fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. I had the Chicken Parmigiana, and the pasta served with it was a perfect complement, enhancing the overall dish. One of the highlights of the meal was the fried calamari. It was crispy, tender, and seasoned just right, making it an ideal starter. Along with their delicious homemade garlic bread, it set the tone for a memorable meal. For dessert, I enjoyed the cannoli, which was a sweet and satisfying end to a great evening. If you’re in the Schenectady area and in the mood for a hearty Italian meal, Appian Way is definitely worth a visit!
Most amazing meal. Chicken franchise, this is what is supposed to taste like. The complex, lemon in the background. Unapologetically dipped the homemade bread in it! Homemade linguini. Get some of the vegetables, too.
Plan to spend a few hours here. Everything is made in house (even the olive oil used in the restaurant is from their family's olive grove in Italy. The three ladies who run the place fly to Italy every year to help with the harvest and refill their supply). Because of this level of quality, you will wait for your fantastic food. Order an appetizer, enjoy the wood burning fireplace and the house wine while you wait.
Everybody loves The Appian Way's gelato. I'm glad that I live nearby so I can have it whenever I'm craving for it! They also give fast service and great food as always.
Listen to me, this is the BEST Italian restaurant in the Capital District. If anyone mentions another Italian restaurant, do not believe them. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL!! The Appian Way has my heart and soul.
Old school Italian. Food was great. They used basil , tomatoes, beet greens and lettuce straight from their garden. Cool experience.

Cozy, quiet, and authentic. Appian Way is the closest thing to sitting in your grandmothers house while she cooks dinner for you.

This place maybe small but their service and food is excellent! Homemade pasta and sauce is delicious! Everything is freshly made. Make sure to call and reserve a table.
Excellent home made Italian food. All hand prepared by one woman. Ordered veal Parmigiana and fried calamari. Both were fantastic. Only 2 types of pasta available when we visited: angel hair and fettuccine, but both were homemade and clearly a step above any commercial pasta you’d get elsewhere. The gelato is homemade and 10/10. Beer and wine license only with limited monthly selection (2 wines, 2 beers). This is not a 90 minute turn the tables over kind of place. Expect a 2-3 hour dining experience. If you’re going to proctors, let the waiter know up front. Parking can be challenging as it’s all on-street. Overall, Just a wonderful hole in the wall, Old-school type of Italian eatery where everything is hand made. The visit is well worth your time. We’ll be back for sure.
I have to say, this is by far the best Italian restaurant in the area I have been to outside of Italy. Homemade pasta, great menu, and homemade deserts. The atmosphere was very quaint and casual, much like family owned restaurants abroad. Service was phenomenal. Very minor error on my order and he insisted on throwing in my gelato on the house. I will definitely be back when in town again. Will recommend to friends as well. Just a great all around experience. Thank you.

Celebrated my birthday for the second year. The food is unequaled. The service is prompt and the servers are happy to be there. The entire restaurant sang when my cake was presented.

One of the last old school family-run Italian restaurants in the area. Excellent sauces and pasta. Leave room for dessert, if you can. This is a good option for a dinner before attending Proctors, but make sure that you inform them when seated. The service is excellent, but the dining is leisurely as everything is hand prepared.

A holiday family tradition but this year terribly disappointed. Called in advance for reservations 6 pm didn't leave until almost 9:30. Fried calamari appetizer, salad, rum raisin gelato stellar... entries disappointing watery pasta mushy ... one entre mixed up with another order. I traveled from North Carolina to host my family for Christmas usually a great homemade Italian taste of home. This year not so...
