Wonderful Tea House! The retail shop has an incredible selection of teas and accessories! The Afternoon Tea is delicious- the crepes are perfect, the red pepper soup is the best, carrot cake is spot on! I love that it is served on the tiered stands. Love you can choose Individual pots of tea! I'm so glad we found this gem!
Food was amazing. Staff was sooo friendly. Every staff member that passed by greeted us. Our waitress was attentive and helped me navigate the menu as a first timer. I got the afternoon tea and it was so much food I had to get a doggy bag. The tea was delicious. I do with they had sugar dispensers instead of packets. Seems like a waste at a place where most of the patrons are probably using sugar.
I just had the best turkey avocado sandwich I've ever had, literally! Delicious and not a big mess to eat. The lobster bisque and banana foster crepe were unbelievably delicious and the waitress was awesome! The afternoon tea allows you to have all three at a good price and full portions! Highly recommend this place. A heck of a lot more than tea! Wish I lived in Schenectady!
Food was phenomenal, not too busy at noon on a weekend too. Service was great, Logan was down to earth and relaxed, combined with the atmosphere inside it goes a long way. Felt very relaxing and lively at the same time. Up there with my favorites for food!
Every single staff member was amazing, not just our server! The mimosa flight was definitely worth it,sour apple was my favorite. We had a slice of the chocolate cheesecake and a sweet crepe for dessert, and it was amazing. Overall, the atmosphere was nice, the staff was great and the food was fresh and delicious.
Our first visit to Schenectady brought us here! Really cute restaurant ! We loved everything about it! The street had a bookstore and some shops! Free parking on Saturday as far as we could tell. If the parking app says spot is unavailable it might mean no charges for that day.
The whistling kettle has always been a go to brunch spot for me and my family! I have never had a bad experience there. The staff is welcoming and very friendly. I highly recommend you get the three tier tower, which has a great value for your brunch! The atmosphere of the restaurant is very comfy and warm. My personal rating of the food I’ve had there: - Cheese And Broccoli Quiche (8/10) - Kettle House Salad (9/10) - Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (8/10) - Chipotle Chicken Sandwhich (8/10) - Lobster Bisque (10/10) - Turkey Avocado Sandwich (8/10) - Nutty Monkey Crepe (8.5/10) - Caramel Apple Crepe (8.5/10) - Roasted Red Pepper Soup (7/10) Overall a really nice spot to eat if you’re looking for a brunch spot! I recommend getting there right as doors open, because it does get busy! The Restaurant is very family friendly, and welcoming to all guests! I’ll be back again soon!
As always amazing food! It was ridiculously busy but everyone was friendly and the serve was top notch. The wait was out the door but that didn’t detract from the overall experience. They told us it would be 30-45 minute wait but it was only 15ish minutes. The gluten free options were spectacular. I’ve eaten here dozens of times and it next disappoints. The Ballstonian is my favorite! My mother has the Lobster Bisque and loves it.
Went with a few other co-workers for a lunch meeting today. Excellent service, nice space to meet or relax. They have tables, booths, seating both inside and outside. An easy walk from anywhere is downtown Schenectady. You can get just a tea, a sandwich, or an entire meal. They have fun breakfast and lunch tea as well. Our waitress was pleasant and friendly and she did a great job of reading the room on when to pop in or come back later. Definitely recommend for breakfast, lunch or even an early dinner!
A great find on Jay Street! Looking for something to eat before a recent trip to the theater, my wife and I walked in when we saw the tea kettle out front. With a combo of inside and outdoor seating, we were met promptly and with a smile. Our waitress Cayla took the time to explain the menu as it was our first visit ... we took her suggestions and enjoyed a great lunch. Plus, mimosas flight ?!? Delicious, fresh sandwich, the roasted red pepper soup was super, and the lemon drop scone might be the best we have ever had! Stop in, you won't be disappointed!
My favorite brunch/lunch spot in the Capital Region! I love their selection of teas and appreciate that you can order teas found on the retail wall that aren't on the menu — my favorite is the genmaicha. Their service is very quick, and I love to mix and match dishes with their afternoon tea. Occasionally my garden sandwich has been a bit soggy or undercooked, but there are so many options on the menu that there's always something new to try. I've even come here solo just to read my book and have a cup of tea and a crepe for breakfast because it's such a nice atmosphere.
Love this place! Free parking is available nearby, and Jay Street itself is a fun area to explore, perfect for something to do before or after your visit. While it can be a bit pricey, the portions are generous, and the drinks are excellent. The variety of tea options is especially impressive, so if nothing else, come for the tea! The morning and afternoon tea combos are a must-try and usually what my friends and I go for. Expect to spend around $25–$30 per person, but it's worth the splurge. The tea, as previously mentioned, is so good. Warning, they do not have lattes of any sort. Just French press coffee, as a non-coffee drink, I don't mind at all. Service was amazing! Go early for better deals and a table. This place gets busy on weekends, especially on Sundays, with the farmers' market. The atmosphere is also great, but it does get rather loud. Only 1 bathroom for the establishment, so a line will form. Overall, great spot! Check it out.
This place has an impressive selection of teas, so we opted for a tea flight to sample a few—every flavor was delightful! We also tried the mimosa flight and ordered the vegetarian sandwich with roasted red pepper soup, which was absolutely delicious. Although the sandwich was a bit messy to eat, it was still tasty. The service was fantastic, and while it’s on the pricier side, we felt it was well worth the splurge.
The Whistling Kettle in Schenectady offers a delightful dining experience. Their extensive menu caters to a variety of tastes, and the quality of ingredients is evident in every dish. We were particularly impressed by the red pepper gouda. The lobster bisque was a little too salty. The sandwiches were fresh and had good balance, featuring fresh, high-quality proteins and perfectly toasted ciabatta bread. The scone was baked well and was complemented by the cheesecake frosting and jelly. The tea selection was fresh and not too sweet, and the service was both swift and friendly. The Banana Foster crepe fell short of expectations. The crepe had a very raw flavor to it. Despite this minor setback, The Whistling Kettle earns a commendable 7.8 out of 10. Its family-friendly atmosphere and efficient service make it a great spot for a casual meal. We highly recommend giving it a try!
Wonderful little dining place! Perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! I had the Apple Bacon Brie sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious! I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes cheeses… it had 3 different types on it! The side was DISAPPOINTING. I expected some homemade chips or some fries… but NO. Got some BAKED LAYS. What?! Most of their menu looked great, and they have lots of tasty options. For a drink, I got the strawberry banana smoothie. It was very good, nothing special though. It resembled a chunk of ICE. The atmosphere was AMAZING. It was cozy, and felt like home sitting by the campfire. The service… not great. The waitress spilled a whole water glass on the floor and just scampered off like it was nothing. I got a little splashed, but anyway…
Having the kitchen open to the dining space means that every yell, dish scrape, and cooking sound can be heard while I was dining. Not the worst but made for a chaotic experience. I ordered afternoon tea with the broccoli quiche, kettle salad, and a lemon scone. The quiche was actually very good, but the salad had barely any toppings just a couple slices of cabbage, two cucumbers and two grape tomatoes. My biggest complaint is with the scone and the cream pitcher that came with my tea. The cream came in a little ceramic pitcher that was DIRTY on the inside with old cream 🤢 The scone was horrendously sweet and undercooked. It tasty of raw flour and the dough was uncooked in the center. The scone came with cream and jam. I was expecting clotted cream but instead it was some sort of vanilla yoghurt situation. Overall the dessert tier was so so so sweet and couldn’t even be saved by the tea. It’s a bummer bc the quiche was such a good start :/
Imagine letting this sandwich leave your restaurant? $20 for a tiny piece of bread. You would need a microscope to find the turkey.
If I could select a zero I would. My husband and I went today to have lunch. It is the day after Christmas. The hostess took us to an out of the way spot and left us at the table. No one came by to check on us or ask us about getting started with drinks or possibly taking our order as waiters occasionally walked by. My husband and I waited about fifteen minutes before he went to the hostess and explained that we'd like to be moved to a different spot so we could get service. When he asked she told us that everyone was "really busy and they would get to us soon. There were several other areas she could have moved us to that were within a servers space but she didn't want to be bothered. We decided to leave and on our way out I told her thank you for nothing. Her response was a sarcastic "Merry Christmas". I won't be going back there again.
This is for the online website where I purchased loose tea. I bought 2 mystery sample size bags of tea with my order. They put the same tea in the order for both which doesn't even sound good. Now the problem is I placed a second order for 5 mystery sample bags of tea. Watch, I'm going to end up with 5 more of the same tea I just received in my order. Sample teas are just that, not duplicates of the same tea. Never doing that again. If you're going to give multiples of the same tea as mystery samples then state as much. In case anyone is wondering, they put in SPARKLING RASPBERRY WINE and I don't even drink wine. 🙄 Update: I made a cup, not great, it had an over abundance of actual twigs/sticks, had a bitter bite to it, hint of sweetness. I'll have to mix it with something else so not to throw it away. UPDATE 2: YUP, THEY GAVE ME 5 MORE SAMPLES OF SPARKLING RASPBERRY WINE WHAT A RIP OFF!
