The Rum Runner

Drove from PA to attend a biz networking event and stayed for an excellent dinner of pan-seared salmon that was so good, I can’t wait to go back and have it again!! I was able to have my dinner on one of the balconies with the view of the harbor and a heater radiating overhead. Breezy and comfy at the same time. Servers were delightful. The business function was on the top floor but the noise was everywhere (not a separate floor). The hors d’oevres were appealing and the reception offerings were ample.

Live band was playing when we arrived. We were seated pretty quickly with a beautiful view of the Navasink River. The service and food was wonderful!

The food here was great! We started off with the Island Style Calamari and the half dozen oysters. I ended up getting ravioli for my entree and my bf got the NY strip and both were delicious. The view here was also great since we got here just in time to watch the sun set.

Came here with my husband and toddler for my grandmother’s birthday. It was a very intimate dinner and the view is absolutely gorgeous. While waiting for our food, my toddler would watch everyone on their boats and jet skis. Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable about the beer menu. Drinks are refreshing (and strong if you get the seabright sunset lol) Highly recommend making reservations in advance.

One of my favorite places ever. The view is so beautiful that you would want to stay for the 3 meals. Service is beyond amazing. Our waitress Michelle was super nice and had a great attitude. She was checking on us every few and never hesitate to go back and forth to make sure we are having good time. The food was pretty good, I would ask for more varieties for lunch but still enjoyed every piece of it. Again, the view is beyond describing. You would wonder how it looks through all times of the day :) Note: they have different seatings, upstairs and downstairs. I would recommend downstairs on the deck if the weather permits. You will be hearing the water waves slaps on the deck while waiting to the people on boats passing by :)

This place is beautiful and it was great for our date night. We had the oyster special and coconut shrimp(amazinggg) to begin. I enjoyed the oysters as well. We then had NY Strip and pan seared salmon for our main. They were both delicious but I wished the portion sizes for the sides were more? The staff were friendly and the vibe was welcoming and calm. Loved it! Oh! The mango margarita is a must try as well The bathroom was clean and nice as well!

The service was exceptional. The food was excellent; all set on the river, it was romantic with the sunset.

Ryan and I were married at the Rum Runner this October and it was absolutely magical. The stunning location and views afforded by this restaurant was amazing, but what was just as wonderful was Samantha Smith, the Rum Runner's Banquet Coordinator. She was our event life line and always available and just so responsive when we had an urgent question or requests. It would not have been the same without Samantha. The food was so delicious, thank you Chef!, and the ambiance was enchanting and wedding event was seamless. Thank you Samantha and staff for really making our wedding a once in a lifetime event!

Beautiful environment and amazing servers. Right on the water and local to sea bright. I've had a few entrees off the menu, the lobster Mac and cheese is amazing along with the flatbread pizza appetizer. The classic margarita is amazing along with orange creamsicle for alcoholic beverages. The view is beyond amazing when you catch it at sunset. Prices are reasonable for the amazing quality of service. Would highly recommend also family friendly and elevator for handicap and valot parking If needed.

Great atmosphere! Met friends for dinner, it was our first time here. So glad we did because the views were amazing and the food and drinks were equally wonderful. If you’ve never had Sicilian pesto, theirs was amazing!!!!!We will definitely be back!!!

My boyfriend and I found we would be in the area, so i searched waterfront restaurants nearby. I wanted one with water to the west of it so sunset would be reflected nicely. They have a lovely location in that respect. The building is quite beautiful, and the interior elegant. Lovely water views. Plenty of open air seating. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food excellent! It is a restaurant with an interesting history, I recommend reading about on their website. Over all, it was an excellent experience, our first time there... which shall be followed by other times there any time we are in the area!

Great place to eat and watch the sunset. I went with my family and have no complaints. Their specials menu and seasonal oysters are the best.

Wow. Does not disappoint. First time back since the pandemic. I felt safe and ample space with beautiful sights. The food was beyond good from the cocunt shrimp app to the special scallops and the cookie pie. Yum!

Made reservations, sat quickly and waitress was very attentive. Very clean restaurant with great decor. Food was absolutely wonderful as we expected. The dessert was extremely delicious too. Please try the rum runner drink as that was very delicious. If you make it, the sunset is amazing!

Very beautiful spot to watch sunset. We ordered Salmon, Cesar salad, betty Salad with steak and margarita flatbread. All were really good.

Attended 50th anniversary party. Staff was attentive Polite professional wonderful. Food was excellent, great experience start to finish. Plenty of parking fantastic location. Breathtaking views from all angles, ocean on one side Bay on the other. Rum runner was beautiful, clean bathrooms, simply lovely decorations very comfortable and wonderful setting for any event.

A must come to spot. Had an amazing birthday lunch with mom and dad. Was here in October. The service was impeccable and the food 5 star. I'm not from Jersey but if I'm back next year I will be back. Keep up the good job.

The view from the outside seating is beautiful! I love sitting along the water. The food quality was great and delicious. They mark GLUTEN FREE options which is awesome. They even have burger buns!

The Rum Runner is the perfect place to dine with your significant other or friends. The cocktails and food are absolutely delicious. If I could, I'd eat lunch here everyday because the weather's perfect to enjoy lunch outside. The service staff are very attentive. I've enjoyed dining at all of the other McLoone restaurants as well.

I had my bridal shower there last week and it was nothing but perfect. My guest were raving about the service and how friendly and welcoming the staff were. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was beautiful. In terms of planning Nicole and Sam were incredible and very responsive. Everything went so smoothly the day of I couldn’t have asked for a better day. If booking an event definitely pick rum runner. They will not disappoint !

I never write reviews, but Shawn was a rockstar! It was a friend’s bday and he was patient and cracked a few jokes while telling us the specials, recommendations, everything in between. Literally the most down to earth experience! Even was asking about candle placement on a custom cake. Made my friend’s bday dinner and all of us have a great night! As said, i never write reviews so this goes out to Shawn!

My husband and I went there for our wedding anniversary, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were seated in a booth that allowed us a wonderful view of the bay. The food was excellent as was the service. It can get noisy as they have live entertainment in the evenings on the weekend, but we didn't mind that.

We had our wedding here and we have no regrets! We still visit every now and then because it's THAT good. I recommend this place more to couples for a romantic meal by the water. It's amazing for any time of the year! The staff is always great and the food is unforgettable!

This is my 2nd time visiting here, and the service got better than last time. The appetizer was great, but not sure if the steak and buratta cheese went well with each other. Each tastes good, though. Pasta was a safe choice, not really special. Desserts were good.

Great location for a meal with a scenic view of the water! Overall, the food was good and the drinks were really enjoyable! I think I expected a little bit more from my dish but it was yummy and I didn’t leave disappointed. Desert was delish so if you go, definitely order that!

Delicious food coupled with a great atmosphere makes The Rum Runner a worthwhile stop. The outside offers an atmosphere that’s just as scenic as the inside. The calamari and coconut shrimp were flavorful but the tuna tacos stole the show for starters! Topped off with the 1.5lb lobster for the main event. Watered down with a Whiskey Sour which was ok (I prefer mine made with the traditional egg-white dry shake). I recommend going to TRR if in the area.

Very nice restaurant with great food! I loved their lobster roll and the shrimp soup was amazing! The atmosphere is pretty fun, like hamptons style and the price are correct. It’s easy to park even on a sunny Sunday during rush hours! ⭐️ I didn’t give 5 stars only because they didn’t clean well our seat when I enter...and it should be done for that kind of restaurant because it’s not a diner!

Great food with lots of options on the menu. Beautiful views as well. Atmosphere/decor felt a little like a hotel bar style.

Fantastic place right on the water. Great cocktails, service and the good was Delicious. We loved the Lobster Mac n cheese, The Rum runner cocktail and the Mediterranean platter and the lava cake!!

My family made reservations here in advance to celebrate Mother's Day. I ordered calamari and salad for an appetizer, and meat, hamburger, chicken, and salmon for the main menu. All the food was mot bad, but the seafood was the best. And the staff are friendly too. I don't remember our servers name, she was friendly even when busy. I felt good when I went home after eating here.

Beautiful Restaurant, Great Views, My family and I had the pleasure of going here for Thanksgiving. Beautiful buffet style dinner, the food was great, drinks were ok, our server really didn't attend to us. Valet staff were the best very polite young men.

The rum runner is a very nice higher end restaurant. The prices are higher and the food quality is pretty good. The view out over the river is very nice here. The interior is very clean and nicely updated. Service is friendly and prompt. If you don't mind spending more on a nice lunch or dinner out, this is a nice place to come.

Amazing location! Our server "Eddie" was amazing. The food was average but the view made it all worth it!! In fairness I had lunch not dinner.

Beautiful view of the canal, expected that the food will be better. Desert choice was limited. Also very important: there were cleaning or what, it was very noisy. But we enjoyed the view.

So we went here on a Monday for a birthday celebration I have to say the restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous the location is spectacular their alcohol beverages were very good as far as the food I would say highly disappointed and this is why there is a three star review most of our dinner entrées came out cold one of the guest with us ordered salmon and it was way over cooked than the waitress very kindly offered to get a new dish and then when the new dish did come out it came out raw. The waitress immediately tended to the issue and got the manager the manager issued a refund for the meal and also a gift card to our guess that was with us have to say our waitress and Staff were wonderful and an absolutely amazing job. Like I said we were just absolutely disappointed with the food two of our guests ordered a steak meal the mashed potatoes came out worse than instant potatoes there is no flavor absolutely called my meal I had scallops in the risotto risotto had absolutely no taste to it and came out cold as well we did not make the staff aware of this just cause we didn’t wanna make a big deal of the situation so that is our own fault but I’m not sure if I would ever go back for another meal there I would go back for the atmosphere and for the drinks because that was very nice other than having a bad meal almost everybody on the table the experience was delightful

The Rum Runner, is on shores of Shrewsbury River and Atlantic Ocean across the ocean avenue. Beautiful location. Good infrastructure for a upscale water side restaurant , with valet parking and 3 levels of service areas with good space indoor and outdoor. It can get cold in evenings so carry coverups if wanting to sit outside at dusk and evening. Service is good and prompt . Now let me come to the main thing for which we go to restaurants FOOD. And that is mediocre. Kitchen is not impressive at all. The only thing good was my Cabernet which I ordered. Starters: we ordered chicken wings tasted average too sweet actually and kinda regular deep fried wings noting special. Their Mediterranean platter was bad. Pita was deep fried on low heat so was full of oil , olives were canned salted olives from grocery store mashed into a chutney. Hummus was OK. Ravioli was OK sauce also tasted as if it was not fresh created in the kitchen Cajun Mahin with veggies was OK just that fish was over done. The pineapple chutney saved the dish.and helped me gulp. Salmon has a sweet glaze don’t know the chefs love for sugar may be it’s makes their life easy or hides cooking efficiencies. Salmon was also overcooked. It was our anniversary so we ordered a dessert despite the fact most of the dishes were kinda sweet. Their coffee moose cake which came with vanilla icecream, vanilla ice cream was the only palatable. Coffee moose was super sweet on a Oreo base .. some might say desert has to be sweet , yes it has to be but it felt like I took a dip in a syrup pool. This place is $$$ and food is no way even near a $$. If you are looking to sit in a waterfront place have drinks great .. if going out for dinner and have a great time with a great meal this is not the place .

The food was just okay. Great location and live music. I am not one for fancy restaurants. The quantity and quality is lower than what you can get at a more reasonably priced location. Youre only here for the ambiance basically. They have an outdoor area over looking the ocean, and very fancy bathrooms and fixtures.

I really wanted to like this place, but it ended up being a disappointment. The food was totally average and nowhere near worth the prices they’re charging. For what they cost, the dishes should’ve been way more memorable. The ambience didn’t help either, it just didn’t feel special or comfortable enough to justify the “fancy” price tag. On the plus side, our waiter was great: very professional, attentive, and friendly. But honestly, that level of service is exactly what I’d expect at a restaurant this expensive. Overall, this spot is overpriced for what you actually get. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back, especially with so many better options around.

Tim McLoone should be absolutely ashamed of himself. Service was horrendous. Took 20 min to get anyone to even greet us. Had to get up from the table and go get a manager to even get a drink order in. Asked for lemons, never came. Ketchup, nope. Dressing-never came. Cobb salad looked like a tossed salad with a half an egg on it. Never filled our drinks. 25 minutes after ordering cod tacos they came back and said there was no cod left. Waiter blamed us for not communicating our needs clearly, which is unbelievable. Only saving grace was the manager was really nice and apologetic and the view is beautiful. Otherwise, NEVER again.
