Delightful place with a fantastic vibe. Liked all four beers in my flight which is unusual. Beautiful "partio" area as well. The menu meets many dietary needs, and they have specials which looked delicious. Truly an amazing location for a unique brewery. Thank you for the hospitality!
Loved it! How can a restaurant/bar in the middle of nowhere be so good? I don't know, but somehow Gyppo Ale Mill pulls it off. My partner & I were treated to great food & beverages, plus super friendly service, when we chanced upon this place. I requested a 16oz. glass of Chasing Rainbows Hazy IPA, for my drink & for my meal, I ordered the Dry-Brined Ribeye, with Chimichurri, accompanied by Shashito Peppers & a Roasted Corn Salad. Both the beer, & my entree were spectacular, no other way to put it. My partner ordered their Gyppo Grassfed Burger She loved the thick meat patty, packed with flavor, the fresh Brioche Bun was tasty, the fries were hot & crisp, plus she washed her food down with Gyppo's hop water, to drink, a beverage similar to sparkling water, but with its own unique taste. When we walked in here, a live NFL game was playing, on all of the many flat screens, hanging on the walls above us, as well as a huge TV screen on the back wall. Great oasis for food & drink, in a totally isolated area, on California's Lost Coast. As an added treat, we passed a 2-year-old male deer, while leaving the parking lot..
Gyppo is amazing place. I tried their chimichuri rib eye steak and it was mouth watering. Never in my life had a steak like that even in nyc! Yummmmm I highly recommend 😊 anddddd whiskey sour mocktail! Foamy top I really enjoyed it.
This is a really cool microbrewery! Great lawn in the back with games to play and a view of the airstrip and ocean! Very friendly staff with great attitude. And the beers are really good as well! Shelter Cove is unbelievably off the beaten path, but that is probably why it's so cool! Go there and enjoy!
We've stopped here many times while visiting the Lost Coast over the summers and always come back! Great beer and food plus lots of parking--we were able to park our camper overnight and appreciated it!
Must do when you have come all the way down to see the lighthouse! Stuff for the kids to do, great place to relax and enjoy your company with a view of the ocean. The fish and chips here were some of my favorite I have ever eaten, EVER. Trust my big pretty back on this. Dog friendly. Friendly staff.
Fantastic food, we haven't had any dish here that we did not love. Delicious beers. Dog friendly, outdoor seating with great views of sunset. Fire pit.
Talking about a remote spot for a brewery, this one takes the cake! The driving adventure makes the beer and taste all the more better. This is our second trip here. Ya gotta go here at least one in a lifetime.
Excellent service, really good food and a wonderful space for gathering. This was the only restaurant we found open on Monday in town, but it didn't feel like a compromise. Special had tons of fresh clams, burgers were good and the appetizers and root beer floats were unique and delicious!
Local rock fish for their fish and chips and ceviche. Both excellent, and they have a tasty in-house brewed non-alcoholic beer option. Amazing find in Shelter Cove, perfect after a fun loop around the Paradise Royale trail!
I dropped in to Gyppo on a serene Southern Humboldt afternoon. It was my first visit to Whitethorn. It was a Wednesday evening and it was a medium sized crowd with Milo the Dog in fine form greeting customers. I enjoyed the truffle fries (not the right name) and the rockfish tacos. I met Dave, who was running Bingo and making witty commentary. We had a great time chatting by the fire with the chef afterwards. The brewery is in a unique building, with art along the walls of the parking lot. I drank the Whistle Punk (West Coast IPA) and Fathom the Bowl (English Oatmeal Stout), both 7%, leaving me satisfied with my lot. The two servers, Mel and Mike (?) were outstanding. I look forward to returning to this quaint coastal gem in a sublime county.
Great food and awesome atmosphere! We also loved the fact that they had a non-alcoholic beverage menu.
Awesome beers and food! Coolest location ever, really makes you wish you had a plane and private pilots license. There is a super small airport you can fly right into Shelter Cove. Lots of folks know this area as "The Lost Coast". They are really good people, care about the community, and have a wonderful business. They have fun stuff going on throughout the year, but our favorite thing is just coming here with a few friends in the evening to have some dinner and beers around the outside fire pit. I got their BBQ burger here, and it was delicious. Great service, great location, can't beat it.

This was the craziest drive I ever took to try a beer! However, if you are up for an adventure, Gyppo Ale Mill is worth it. The beer was excellent, and the food was great. I had the double bacon cheeseburger, and my wife had the fish sandwich. Both were worth the drive.

didn’t try any of the drinks so can’t comment on that, but food was really tasty- we especially loved the cheese curds and the cauliflower wings. partner loved the pulled pork sandwich and I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the black bean burger was (vegan as well, as no cheese) a little on the pricy side, but for the amount of food we got it wasn’t the end of the world

This place has a great atmosphere and a great view. They are dog friendly in the outdoor seating area. The fish was nice and fresh, my husband liked his burger. The fries are just fries and I sampled some beers and they just weren't my taste. It's just a long road to drive if you don't live in the area. They had a band playing so that was cool.
It is in a great spot, it looks nice in there. They have you order on a QR code, which is nice in some ways and can be confusing in others. Get there early, it can get busy. Food is good, but it is expensive and everything is "a la carte" which is always a terrible option in my opinion. Their kitchen is small and the service was SLOW. The only reason it gets four stars instead of three is because the food is good and the place is nice.
Two of us had dinner here on a weekend. It was the best dinner we had in shelter cove. They were very busy but did a good job given the crowd. They had live music which was really nice. We had time to kill so made a nice but cold evening. Maybe blankets that cold guests could wrap around to fight the fog.

Lots of beer choices, we were here on a long weekend , thee were bit understaffed, food was running out and it took quite a while for the food to arrive, but it’s a great place to hang out , lot of seating area and plenty of car parking , chicken wings is highly recommend and their salad is delicious. Hot brownies is not so great, over sweet 😔
Had a decent evening here, mix of locals and visitors. Jeanette the bartendress was nice (as opposed to some other negative reviews), the fish tacos were pretty good, the one beer I tasted was good and had a small pour of that. They had the big projector tv playing “the sportsball”, outdoor patio had fires going to keep it warm despite being 50F outside and people were out there. Overall it seemed like a pretty cool place. I’m sure it’s very nice when the weather is warm.

The Fish and Chips were great, might have a little cayenne in the batter. The tarter sauce was excellent, best I've had, frankly. The "Safety Meeting" beer was great! And they have beer to go. Our server was nice and attentive. Down side, it was cold and we had to sit outside on a Tuesday night and that means the food was cold. The special that day, pork tacos weren't so tasty. We didn't bother mentioning the cold food because we didn't want to wait in the cold any longer. We had ordered a burger to go for my son and they cooked it at the same time as everything else, which was totally lame, it was completely cold and had to be reheated. Didn't think to tell them to wait, that's like restaurant 101, you wait until the table is mostly finished and make a to-go order, especially given the prices, that is just something I've never had to explain, but anyway.

One star because the staff was polite. We ordered dishes you shouldn't be able to mess up. The clam chowder and ceviche was bland and literally unrecognizable. I was served salad with no dressing, completely dry!!!! Like unarguably dry. When I asked for dressing, I was given some, upon paying an additional fee. Pathetic! Guess you'd be impressed with this food if it was literally your only option. Makes since why 80% of the menu is alcohol. Definitely going to need to drink to enjoy this "food".
