This place has such a pleasant atmosphere and delicious food with a relatively simple menu (plenty of options, but not in an overwhelming way for an overthinker like me). Every time I have been, I've had great friendly chitchat with the staff there, and I love how welcoming and kind they are! The food is delicious and I also love that this place has some kind of connection to the music scene and shares information about certain shows in the LA area from time to time.

Excellent place. Great menu. Friendly attentive staff. I usually do takeout breakfast (at midday) or dinner tacos using the phone app that works great, always ready in no time. I live nearby and couldn’t be happier they’re close. Good job guys.

You'd think that breakfast tacos would just be the typical breakfast burrito, just smaller with tortilla options. What an oversimplification when discussing HomeState. Now, as a native Los Angeleno, I know that we hold the rights to thr best Mexican food; however, HomeState has opened an unexpected category: texmex. Typically, I associate texmex with ground beef and corn. The only things HomeState has of those are beef (brisket, not ground) and corn tortillas (see what I did there?). The eggs in the tacos are seasoned beautifully all on their own. All of the additional components (queso, salsa) merely enhance it. The real magic is when you get the brisket. It's made in a way to highlight the lush flavor of beef, which compliments the eggs wonderfully. The food is what lured me here, but the people and service are why I'll return. Each person was genuinely engaging, and definitely focused on an experience that provides friendly encounters. A worthwhile visit all around!

We've been excitedly waiting for this location to open after living so close to the one in Los Feliz. The location is beautiful, bright, and clean with a large outdoor space. Plenty of parking between street and a valet lot right outside. The food was delicious and amazing, like always, and as a vegetarian who makes modifications, I love that they always get my order right and clearly marked. The staff was friendly, brought a water bowl for our dog, and attentive. I could see a few were probably still training since they recently opened, but love to see new employees getting support to succeed. Can't wait to go back before this place gets as busy as the others!

This place wowed me like no other! Best Tex-Max tacos I had in a long time. Every type of taco they offer is better than the other. Great atmosphere on Ventura Blvd with a very nice staff, and with an ice margarita you get your mood just right ✅️ Just go and try it out, I think you'll love this place ❤️

HomeState has opened its newest location on what is fast becoming restaurant row in Sherman Oaks. A great open and airy space with awesome drinks (spicy Paloma was killer) and tasty Tex-Mex tacos, there’s something for everyone! Breakfast tacos to regular tacos, love the flour tortillas. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood! Check it out!!

If I could eat nothing but potato tacos from Homestate for the rest of my life, I would. They’re the perfect ratio of spicy and potato. I’m so glad this place landed in my neighborhood, Homestate is the taco spot LA was missing. The staff here is so nice too. I like to use the app to order ahead and the vibe dining in is really nice too. Cheers 💕

Although it is a self serve place, the food is really super delicious, best margarita on the boulevard and a beautiful ambience! Great all around! Don’t sleep on their salad!

Love this place. Officially my 3rd time here. My go-to order is: quesadilla, Pecos, and Guadalupe. My wife is quesadilla, Brisket, and Frio. We both like the spicy paloma for a drink (frozen or not) but the margarita is too sweet for our taste. The staff are amazing. They are super friendly, including Davey who had a brief chat with us. We have had great interactions with at least 5 other people during our past visits. We definitely feel at ease and at home. Oh and they are dog friendly. Dog tax included

The flour tortillas were amazing. My friend loved all their tacos. Mine didn’t have any cheese so it wasn’t as spectacular but that’s to be expected. A bit more expensive at ~$5 a breakfast taco. The service was great. All the staff were friendly. Overall lovely experience and would like to come back.

In a city with way more breakfast burritos compared to breakfast tacos - Homestate comes through with all day Breakfast taco options that are top notch. Their Flour tortillas are incredible - and the brisket is great!

Guadalupe Breakfast Taco - eggs, chorizo, cheddar cheese / 5⭐! Pecos Breakfast Taco - eggs, brisket / 5⭐! Ft. Worth Breakfast Taco - spicy achiote chicken, bacon, lettuce, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, tomatillo ranch / 5⭐! HomeState is a Californian fast casual restaurant that is expanding to more locations throughout Los Angeles and California. I actually live very close to their original LA location but if I am close to one of their other spots, I love to stop by, check out the space, and enjoy some delicious breakfast and regular tacos. My pet's vet is a short walk from the Ventura Blvd location so I stopped by recently. The first thing I wanted to mention is that this HomeState location has one of the nicest outdoor patios I have ever personally been to. The communal dining picnic tables and aesthetics helps create a warm, welcoming place to enjoy a meal. The staff at every single location I've been to are always very friendly and attentive. This location was no different. Everyone I met was kind and friendly. The decor is energetic and distinct. But the main star of the HomeState show is the food. They have aTexMex menu with lots of items but I can never seem to stray from the taco menu, and usually breakfast tacos no matter the time of day. They have their own hand-made flour tortillas that are incredible and then they fill them with generous, tasty combinations. The gold star goes to the always excellent brisket taco. But all three I had were excellent. One thing I really like is how fluffy and fresh their eggs are. There are also some house made salsas to go with the food, both are excellent. It looked like there was a small parking lot connected to the location. I walked over from the vet. But this area of Ventura Blvd is not hard to find street parking.

Highly recommend! Stopped in for breakfast but ended up having lunch. Wow, these tacos are great. I had multiple kinds, but the potato tacos were my favorite. Homemade tortillas, maybe fried, filled with potato, season lettuce, melted crisp cheese, and maybe sour cream. Priced reasonably. The queso was amazing! Definitely recommend!!

This is a nice, affordable and delicious restaurant. My experience was fantastic. The service was great and they were always asking if we needed anything. Sitting outside can get very loud with the busy street, but the patio is very cute! My brisket quesadilla was unbelievably great at an amazing price!

This is a really cute small taco place with a lot of different good combinations. Each of the tacos are a little bit expensive, but they come almost like mini burritos. They have different accommodations for food restrictions and the staff are always so friendly. They even have blankets and umbrellas available to use if you're sitting outside on the patio to prevent you from getting cold or from getting hit by the sun.

I get breakfast taco takeout every time I'm in LA, it's fast and easy to order with a variety of tacos from the menu that's great for everyone. The tacos are quite packed with meats eggs so you only need 2 tacos a person. If you dine in get the spicy Paloma

First timer, picked up my order at 8:15 AM on Friday. Very nice modern, welcoming interior. Both indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the "Trinity", "Guadalupe", "Don't Mess w/ Texas", "American Dream" by LCD Soundsystem and a order of crispy potatoes and lil'queso. All tacos were fresh, wrapped up nicely for takeout. Lil'Queso with Crispy Potatoes is big enough for 2 people, queso was so good (Chipotle has nothing on this) especially as a taco dip. Egg was fluffy and buttery. Definitely a new breakfast spot ill hit on my way to work. Employees were friendly and service was good. Green salsa was great! Red salsa wasn't spicy and lacked seasoning. Aside from this, I recommend anyone looking for a new breakfast place to give this place a shot. Cant go wrong with the good price for quality and big Texas portions!

Home State is outstanding. I was quickly greeted by two smiling crew members. Congrats to owner on choice of crew members to represent your business. The restaurant was filled up with a steady stream of customers. I must have seen over 10 pick-up delivery drivers pick up food. This is a very good sign. I went with the Chicken taco and Hibiscus or Jamica drink. The Taco was excellent. Homemade tortilla with Cole slaw, and sauce. There was plenty of chicken and the sauce was tasty. The Hibiscus or Jamica drink was perfect. It is easy to be too sweet or too tart. This Hibiscus drink was refreshing and well made. The two sauces available are red or green. The Green sauce is made with tomatillo. The red sauce has roasted tomato’s and guajillo chiles. The are both really good. They do have small parking lot that is available. The outdoor seating is plentiful with 4 large table inside. I can understand why there was so many customers. Home State has delicious food!

Listen when I tell you amazing food . Honestly I was blown away by the service . Chiquita the general manager ! I can not speak enough about her kindness and attention . She was so kind to my mother . My mom tells everyone how she felt treated by the Chiquita . My father died recently and my mom has struggled . She felt so loved and seen . I can’t thank you all enough for the amazing food and service .

The tacos of this place were phenomenal. Easily some of the best LA has to offer. It has a huge line for a reason. Lots of people are doing take out I've noticed. But I found eating them immediately is the best way to do it.

HomeState is a Texas-style taco joint that I've wanted to try. I visited this place last weekend. I tried the Texas taco, the Trinity, the Guadalupe, and the Queso. All pretty good. Whether you're a Texan craving a taste of home or a Californian looking for a new taco fix, this place is definitely worth a visit.

HomeState has amazing Mexican food—always fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The only downside is the parking. Street parking is nearly impossible to find, and the lot is very small, with cars often blocking each other. If you can get past the parking situation, the food is definitely worth it!

Breakfast taco inspired from San Antonio. Very good excepting the brisket, not at all like the moist brisket in San Antonio, more like Mexican shredded beef, without the flavor. Apparently it is dog friendly, there were three that i saw. One of the owners allowed her dog to drink out of a water glass, and fed it directly from a steel fork that you or I might use next!! Very off-putting! I've raised, shown, bred, and train dog, I would never allow a dog to drink / eat off of restaurant settings.

I'm not the world's biggest taco fan but these were really good tacos. Starting with the fresh housemaid tortillas, there's a wide selection of breakfast tacos (eggs, cheddar and bacon was delish) and all day tacos including the excellent brisket. Tacos average around $4. Can be very busy on the weekend and the on-site parking cost $8.

The food was good, and more filling than expected. Salsas come in squirt bottles rather than portioned-out bowls, which is genius. They're yummy, too. We didn't love the main food options we got, but we liked the quality and have other options to choose from on our next visit. I plan to go back and try different meals.

Got the cookie milk iced coffee, the cool down, Loaded queso & Tijuana panther. The cookie milk iced coffee was really tasty, slightly sweet and nice subtle cookie flavor. The cool down drink was really refreshing, super bubbly and had a good lime flavor. The queso was pretty tasty, it wasn't too thick and had good flavors. Red and green sauce is pretty tasty. The Tijuana Panther Taco was good, tasted great with their sauces. The portions are not very big so you can probably eat two or three tacos. It's a nice place, located on the corner with a tiny parking lot or parking on the street. Staff was pleasant. Plenty of seating outside and some inside. Prices are fair

My friend recommended Homestate to me so I came by to try them for lunch. It is a pleasent establishment with counter service and a decent variety on their menu. I was turned off at first because of the price for their tacos not expecting them to be so much, however when our order arrived at our table I understood why. Their tacos are quiet large. One is almost enough for a whole meal. I tried the chicken and Picadillo tacos enjoyed them both. However, I'm not a fan of massive tacos like these. It almost felt a bit like a chore to eat just one due to their size. All of the ingredients were great and the tortilla suprisingly held up but it was definitely a bit of a mess. I also tried their Queso and Guac both of which were fantastic. I ordered a big queso cause I thought the lil might have been too small and boy was I wrong. A lil would've been enough. Overall, Homestate is a nice place with friendly staff and some decent food.

Parking is very limited at 7:30pm on Tuesday. Inside is homey, workers are friendly. The line got pretty long as I was ordering, and they only have one register. Thankfully I was second in line when I arrived. But after I ordered, it took about 15 minutes to get my to go order - quite a bit longer than I expected. Tacos are great - I've gotten the breakfast tacos many times after going running in the morning, and the Don't Mess With Texas always hit the spot. The Blanco is also great if you like mushrooms. I still get the breakfast tacos for dinner because I like them better. Flour tortillas all the way.

The restaurant is in a very nice spot, but expect to do street parking. In regards to service, it’s pretty quick and easy. You go up to a counter and sit inside or outside and they will bring your food to you. Once you are done, they are actively working to clear your table which is a good thing. The food itself lacks flavor imo. I got two chicken tacos and it definitely needed some more seasoning. With the salsa provided, the food tastes much better. If you’re cool with salsa and can handle spicy, then it’s an alright spot. Oh also, the hibiscus limeade drink was very sour and I had to add sugar. Not sure if the drink is supposed to be enjoyed the way it was made.

This is one of those places that are unfortunately over hyped. Or made we got a bad batch. We had the brisket taco, Don't mess with Texas and potato taco and it was bland we tasted just salt. The 'Dont Mess with Texas' barely had any bacon and way too many beans. Both the potato and brisket taco tacos has way too much cabbage slaw not enough potatoes or brisket

T

The flour tortillas were awesome but everything else is overly salted. Maybe I got a bad batch…? I’ll definitely give it another try one day.

M

The tacos were mediocre at best. The eggs taste like egg beaters and bacon is like fast food bacon. I’ve had breakfast tacos in Texas and it was not the same. These weren’t bad just not Texas style breakfast tacos. The outdoor patio is very cute and nice spot to work though!

R

Overpriced. Tortillas were bland. The meat was chewy and runny. Everything had zero taste. I was recommended this place, but I don't recommend it. Save yourself the drive and disappointment. Go pick up some real street tacos from a food truck.

Great location and setup. Parking is hit or miss but paid street parking is available. It's nice inside and plenty of seating. Sturdy seats and benches available. The staff was friendly and attentive. Food is bland and quality was that of a lackluster hotel breakfast buffet. Canned Tepache was ¡no bueno! I didn't have any alcohol, so maybe that's HomeState's saving grace... 🤔

The atmosphere is great and the staff are incredibly friendly. However, I’m very confused by all the good reviews as the food was probably the worst tacos I’ve had. Everything was super bland and the quality of the ingredients seemed very low. I didn’t even finish one because it tasted so bad. Was sorely disappointed for the 50 I spent there and not likely returning.

Food was mid at best. The crispy potatoes were bland, the queso was bland, the beans were cold, the only thing that was good was the guacamole but even that was nothing special. I didn’t have any margaritas so maybe those are good, otherwise a one star from my husband and I.

We strictly told them that we are vegetarian when ordering. Ordered a veggie loaded queso. It arrived with meat in it. There was no apology from them, no regrets. In stead gave us some attitude. Poor service. Not going back

C

Ordered pickup. First of all, your new online system that pushes your new app is terrible. It also didn't email me an itemized copy of the receipt (which begs the question why did you ask for my email address when I placed the order?). On top of that, of the 2 tacos I ordered, you only put one in the bag. I picked up about 15 minutes before closing, by the time I got home it was 3 minutes past closing time, and you stop answering your phone. So no way to remedy that. Terrible job.
