Loon Chuan has been a reliable go-to for Chinese food on the South Shore for years. The menu is extensive, and the flavors are consistently satisfying—especially the General Tso’s Chicken and shrimp lo mein. The portions are generous, and the food always arrives hot whether dining in or ordering out. The staff is friendly and efficient, though service can be a bit slow during peak hours. The decor could use a refresh, but the cozy, no-frills vibe adds to its charm. Prices are a bit on the higher side for Chinese takeout, but the quality makes it worth it. Overall, a solid neighborhood spot that delivers on taste and tradition.
My first time here, the food was amazing. The people was so nice very clean. Definitely will be back my new favorite restaurant
Excellent classic Chinese food nice cocktails.

LoonChuan has been around for over 30 years. Not only are they a great Chinese Restaurant, but they are one of the best take out as well. Sue is great. The kids who I have seen grow up over the years are tremendous, always calling you by your first name , and most importantly the food is the top of the pack. If your looking for quality Chinese food , Loon Chuan is the place

My service was excellent but the meal was not. I’ve been coming here for years and never once had a complaint. I ordered my usual sesame chicken house specialty. It came Out practically white with sauce underneath not on top Nice and brown. The portion size was rather small got almost 20 dollars. Lastly, I feel being charged 3.00 for a can of soda is a little High.
Food was very good but all we could talk about after leaving was asking for a cup of tea and being told that there was now a per cup charge. Really? In a Chinese restaurant? What’s next? A charge for grated cheese in an Italian restaurant? I can understand not putting a tea pot on every table to cut down on costs but if a customer asks, it should be provided free of charge. Our total bill was upwards of $180 and their new policy would definitely have us reconsider returning and instead patronizing another Chinese establishment.
Food is good but portions are a joke for the price. I ordered last night General Tsos Chicken combination for $15 and literally had 4 little pieces of chicken and 3 pieces of broccoli. Start making bigger portions or you’ll be out of business soon.

Honestly only came here because the advance said it was top 3 on the island. It was terrible. The wonton soups was clear with no flavor and the brown sauce for the chicken with broccoli was sweet. The broccoli was hard. The egg roll was meh at best.

Terrible. Soup was like dishwater. Egg roll greasy as was the spring roll. Lo mein was served lukewarm with no taste. Server was not attentive. Don't waste your time or money. The nerve wanting 15.00 per person minimum.
I used to order from here all the time, everytime I order it gets worse and worse. I ordered beef and broccoli with white rice, the beef looked like chicken but it wasn’t chicken and it was slimy. The broccoli wasn’t even cooked, and it came with pork fried rice even though the person who took my order read my order back to me. Ontop of everything the price is outrageous for gross food.
The food was bland, missing spices, the servers don't seem to speak English. The men's bathroom was pretty dirty looking. Overall the place feels dated and I'd overlook everything if the food was better, but it was disappointing, we won't be back. Islander taste in Woodrow Plaza has much better flavor profiles (though they lack table service).
$14 for (mediocre) roast pork fried rice? $3.50 for a single (lukewarm) egg roll? $17.35 for the same Chicken & Broccoli any Chinese takeout establishment with bullet proof glass makes? Those are prices for dining in; takeout prices are only slightly lower. But AVOID this place. Sadly, they have joined the legions of food establishments using the cover of "inflation" to raise prices to outrageous levels-far above what might be needed to cover costs because of higher supplier prices. Diners will remember three things after eating in any restaurant: The food. The service. The price. Those establishments that leave their customers happy about those three things are the restaurants that endure through good times and bad. Ripoffs like Loon Chuan are alienating their customers, and their price gouging is a double edge sword: They may be making more money now, but a year from now they shouldn't be surprised when the dining room is mostly empty, and the takeout orders have dried up.
I wish I could rate lower. I got stuck on a double amnd tried their food for the first time. It was disgusting. The chicken rice soup was nasty. The chicken was over fried. It was horrible. I threw it away. The only thing that was o.k. was the fries. I had to eat something because I couldn't leave my patient. Thank God I had a ginger ale from the night before. My stomach started hurting after I tried the chicken. I spent 23 dollars and the only thing that was o.k. were the fries. When I called and complained they didn't care at all. Never again!!!!
Bad service, rude and not doing a good job serving customers
Wow, terrible customer service! My friend needed to get some bland chicken and rice for stomach issues and they sent the food with the sauce even though I ordered it plain. After realizing it was wrong and calling them to get it fixed….completely rude over to phone and argued with them that they ordered it that way…..100% they messed up the order and could care less. Definitely better places to eat with nicer management.
One of the most disgusting meals my family and I had. 60 minutes of waiting and the food was so vile we threw it out. $40 for two lunch sized combo platters…!? I don’t mind getting ripped off as long as the food is good. But this was so bad I wouldn’t serve it to the local animals outside. Never. Again.
The food was great but they charged eighty dollars for one order of Pork fried rice, one order of beef mei fun and an order of orange beef and oth a coke. Portions were average, food was very good.. but they should where a ski mask when they take your order … this was robbery.
Used to be excellent food. Best Gen Tso's Chicken etc. But the portions shrunk so much. Used to get around 5 bucks enough to feed two people with seconds and leftovers. Price shot up to like 20 or so and the portion is like maybe a quarter what it used to be. Last 3 times I got very sick from it, 3 strikes out. Also one of those times the lady/owner who is there, I simply asked for a tea bag, she looks at me with a puzzled look of disgust and then after asking a second time she threw it on the table at me. (BTW I was a several times a week regular) How extremely rude. Her son who works there is very nice on the other hand, complete opposite. I used to recommend this to everyone I know, now I tell them my experience instead. Money better spent elsewhere. Inconsistent food quality, poor quantity for price, did I say expensive? Not worth it, not for the food, money nor the service. As long as that lady works here, no one else should go there either. She doesn't deserve your hard earned cash. be well.
