Very under the radar spot, but probably not for the locals. Sat at the bar, but could have had a table. Great service and great food. Had the short rib and stroggy. Quite cozy and a nice place for a meet up, a date, or a family night out. Drinks were great as well. Will come back again and definitely recommended. You'll probably want a reservation though. 6 seats at the bar.

My first time at the Windmill, a place my wife has been visiting for decades (back when it was really Gardens!). We came for an early dinner, and had been warned to make a reservation. I was impressed that, while the restaaurant was completely empty, they had laid out menus and prepped our table ahead. Half an hour later I understood - the joint was jumping. So get the reservations! Food was great, cocktails and wine were superb, and service was exceptional - Dessa was on top of everything and couldn't have been more attentive or warm. My burger was perfect. Just a great burger with big slabs of bacon and fries. Perfect. The Seafood pasta was exceptional and I heard nothing but happy noises across the table where my son did in the Filet with Blue Cheese! Oh and the clam chowder was so good we split a second bowl. Great dining experience in Sumner Washington! Will definitely be back!

Blue cheese burger was great. I called in an order Togo. It was ready super fast. They have a darling outdoor seating. I can’t wait to come back and try more items on the menu.

Windmill bistro made my proposal day extra special and I will be forever grateful. They have a florist on site who made a special bouquet for my fiancé and had it at our table ready when we arrived. They gave us a nice corner garden table with the flowers and it was wonderful. Service was great, food was very good and the entire experience was unforgettable. The owner Barb went above and beyond. We will come back whenever we are in Washington. 10/10

The Windmill has great food and a super nice environment! Our service was superb and we had a great time. We had only one dislike which was the potatoes being too salty. Despite their busyness, our sever was helpful and kind!

Windmill Bistro is a charming, well‑loved spot with a hidden spacious interior and a lovely, shaded outdoor garden. The menu is thoughtfully curated, made from scratch feature seasonal favorites, and delivers consistently delicious meals. Add in attentive service, refreshing cocktails or local brews, and occasional live music, and you’ve got a standout dining experience in Sumner. Reservations are recommended—don’t miss it!

Some friends and I stopped in here for brunch randomly and it was such a delight. Really good cocktails! The peach salad we had was out of this world. Another little gem in Sumner.

Superb hidden gem!!! 10/10!!! We went here for lunch on a whim and it did not disappoint!!!! We loved it! Definitely going back! Everything we ordered was phenomenal!! Loved the Asian pear salad, the prime rib dip, and their fries are crispy and good!! Service was great! Everyone was so nice!!! Drinks we got the mimosa flight (generous portions) and the Lemonade Peachy Soda.

Jake provided exceptional service and Barb was very kind not only over the phone, but when we arrived in person also. This quaint little restaurant is a gem in the area, nestled on grounds shared w/ surrounding places, the food will not disappoint. There is also a bar with select mocktails as well. I enjoyed the experience and look forward to returning when I can.

We had lunch at the beautifully cozy Windmill Bistro. We both had clam chowder. Mom had the 2 piece cod Fish & Chips and I had the BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) sandwich. It was delish!!!!!!!

During a recent business trip to Sumner, WA, I had the delightful opportunity to dine at the renowned Windmill Bistro. It truly lived up to its stellar reputation, offering an exceptional dining experience. The ambiance was enchanting, and the culinary offerings were sublime. Both the drinks and dishes were crafted to perfection. A special acknowledgment must be given to Melissa and Brie for their outstanding service. Brie, an extraordinary mixologist, concocted some of the most exquisite drinks I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. I am immensely grateful to these two remarkable women for making my visit unforgettable. I eagerly anticipate my next visit and look forward to bringing colleagues to share in this exquisite experience. Thank you!

Lovely Sunday brunch with family. The food was delicious, and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend you make a reservation on the weekend. They were very nice and squeezed us in. Lovely gift shop and plants to browse and buy. The main nursery is down the road and is amazing.

My husband and I came here for the first time to celebrate our anniversary and we were so glad we did! We came 45 minutes before their afternoon closing time, but we still felt welcomed by the staff. I heard one of the head staff members say to one of the servers that they won’t be offering anymore outdoor seatings for the rest of the afternoon because it was getting too hot for the servers. It’s great to know that this business as a whole really care about their employees and their wellbeing as well as their customers! As for the food, I had the crab cake benedict and it was divine. I wish I had more to take home! It came with a warm cinnamon scone which adds a nice sweet touch and perfectly fried potatoes with onions and bell peppers. All very tasty and made fresh! The place has a beautiful, bright summertime atmosphere with a touch of European flair, complete with a nice little bar for cocktails. This is a great place for a date and meeting up with friends and I love it!

We were car shopping in Sumner and our sales rep at the Honda store recommended this place. This was our first time here and we did not have a reservation but we’re offered a table outside. Is was a cool Saturday at noon but the host offered my wife a cozy blanket. Our server was Jake and he greeted us warmly and was very personable. Our service wait time was reasonable and we chatted a bit with Jake about The Windmill Bistro and the restaurant business given that we recently were partners in a gastropub in Oregon. The food was excellent and my wife loved the chicken fried steak with gravy. Do recommend this place and you might want to call ahead for reservations. We hope to see Jake again if we make back to this very cool bistro.

What can we say, this is truly our favorite date night restaurant in the area. The atmosphere, the service, the food and drinks are all incredible. Melissa, our server, is such a delight and we look forward to seeing her every time we come in. I highly recommend the Olive Roasted Chicken and Risotto!!

Fun and lively lunch destination! Friendly staff, tasty sandwiches, salads and soups and a fun atmosphere surrounded by a beautiful nursery. I would highly suggest making a reservation as seating is limited and fills up quickly. Equally, parking can be challenging, so keep that in mind when planning your arrival time.

A perfect cozy yet elegant birthday dinner! We shared the Mushroom Risotto Arancini balls and Salmon BLTA salad - then the Short Rib Stroganoff and Fish & Chips for dinner - with the Shortbread Berry Cream Tart for dessert... it was all amazing. Looking forward to leftovers. Yum!

Great experience. Never visited this cute little place but it absolutely didn't disappoint. Great staff, matched by the atmosphere, and finished off by delicious food. This little bistro is the place to enjoy with someone or people that you love spending time with. I'll definitely be visit again soon.

Wow, what a beautiful restaurant - the decor, outside garden, staff (Amanda, you're a great brunch bartender) - everything. The corned beef hash was made in house and was amazing. We also loved the salmon salad, salmon benedict and spicy bloody mary's. Remember to check out the cute wine lounge upstairs.

Drove all the way from Olympia today to meet a couple friends after this quaint little gem was recommended to me. My chicken and pear sandwich did not disappoint. The chicken was moist, the bun was perfectly soft and buttery, and the pear and onion were sautéed to perfection. The truffle fries were crispy and delicious though maybe a tad salty. The waiter was attentive and personable. Grateful we got there around 11:30 because shortly thereafter it was absolutely packed (on a Tuesday!). Great experience and well worth the drive!

Attended the soft reopening of the bistro and was in love! While I have been to this establishment in the past, loved how they were creative in staying open during Covid, and enjoyed their food, tonight's experience showed that perseverance and vision pay off! Their remodel of their indoor and outdoor space was phenomenal! An entire new bar area to sit at, an outdoor garden area to enjoy your meal, and an upstairs wine seating area. I was so enthralled with my food I forgot to take pictures! The food was scrumptious! I had the tenderloin crostini, a perfect summer treat served cold. The greek potatoes with the ribeye were perfect, something different then the same old garlic mashed potatoes you always get everywhere. Our server Colleen was excellent and great at giving feedback. We will for sure be returning!

The burger and fries were pretty good. The live music was also good, but overall the atmosphere was the better side of the experience.

The good: Great food. It is evident they use quality ingredients The bad: nothing from this visit Good food. The pork chop with compote was very juicy and full of flavor. The cherry compote (jam if you want) was a great touch of sweet to a perfectly cooked meat. The Olive Roasted chicken was good and juicy. This was not a full breast but a piece that had both breast and wing or thigh. Bottom line, it was a very flavorful piece of chicken. This came with a purple cauliflower mash, which was the highlight of this dish. I have never liked cauliflower, but this was delicious!

This is the cutest place with the friendliest staff! The food is all made by scratch, and the restaurant is family owned/run. The crabcake benedict was so decadent and delicious. The potatoes were crispy, and the mimosa was crisp and perfectly balanced. I got the Cranberry, but they also have pineapple and orange. They also have a mimosa flight option if you're up to it or if you and your friends just want to sample the flavors. The place is very busy and for good reason! Call and make a reservation, you won't regret it.

I went for Valentines day and overall a great experience! Bartender helped me pick a mocktail and it was very refreshing and the food was tasty and came out in a timely manner.

Super cute place with indoor and outdoor seating. When we went it was a sunny but chilly fall day and they even had blankets for us for outside. The outside is covered and has heaters. Definitely a beautiful gem! We will definitely return!

One of my favorite places to eat. Always such a good time, great food, and great service.

I got the garden scramble and it was amazing! I need to figure how they make their eggs! We sat at the bar because even at 10a on a Saturday they were completely booked, so reservations are needed. Even though it was really busy, the staff was so nice and friendly. The prices weren't too bad either. You can also walk around when you're done and look at flowers and a tea shop. Very cute place.

Jake is the best! He provides fine dining caliber service. Outdoor patio is a nice option in an area with limited outdoor dining. Our favorites are chicken fried steak, Reuben, Fries, and the fish and chips. Reservations recommended for weekend brunch.

A cute bistro with lovely charm. Overall good food, but the bacon on my BLTA was more chewy than the way I prefer (I know other people probably prefer it that way though). It tasted pretty good and the fried cheese curds were fantastic! I hope to go try other things another time.

Such a charming, character-filled spot! The windmill and garden setting create a cozy, welcoming vibe that feels like home. Breakfasts are outstanding—comforting, homemade flavors with generous portions and fresh ingredients. I had the eggs Benedict with crispy potatoes and a warm pastry, and everything was delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the service is relaxed in the best way. A perfect place for a slow morning or a catch-up with friends. I’ll definitely be back!

Windmill has the best breakfast around. We have a brunch group that eats there omce a month. You have to make a reservation. If you try and walk in without one and are turned away with a half full restaurant, its bc the owner knows she has a day full of reservations! The eggs benny and the corned beef hash are my favorite. I've now been for lunch and dinner, great food and wine list, upscale atmosphere. Plus they are always accommodating to food sensitivities. I'm gluten and dairy free and they have plenty of options.

This restaurant is our favorite place we have found in Sumner, their food is always cooked to perfection. I have allergies & they always make sure to note & make accommodations which means the world. We have always had a positive experience here & appreciate the service we receive each time we dine here! Melissa has been our server multiple times & truly gives us the best experience, she is so knowledgeable and kind! Cannot recommend this bistro enough, come try it out!

I will start by saying that the "best fries ever" is no joke. Get them, you won't regret it. They are not only crispy, but so flavorful. This was my first time eating dinner here and I will say my harvest bowl does look beautiful, but I think it was lacking a flavor. My thought was they should serve it topped with some kind of crema...maybe a cilantro/avocado..I don't know. Just felt like a crema could really enhance the flavors. It was still extremely tasty. In general I love this place because their food is fresh and healthy. It's really hard to find that these days.

We were in town visiting family, and they made a dinner reservation for us at The Windmill Bistro. The restaurant has a charming and inviting atmosphere, blending rustic touches with a bit of modern flair. The spacious interior features a cozy fireplace, while the shaded outdoor garden is perfect for outdoor dining. Overall, it has a warm and welcoming feel. Our server, Kehu, was friendly and attentive, always ready with recommendations and checking in at just the right moments. They have a simple , one page menu but offers a nice variety of options. We ordered the following: Coconut Prawns with Sweet Chili – crisp, light, and straightforward. Harvest Bowl with Salmon – my dish; very healthy and hearty, but so filling I couldn’t finish it. Open-Faced Crab Melt – flavorful but a little too rich for my taste. Olive Roasted Chicken – my boyfriend’s choice, and he really enjoyed it. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The Windmill Bistro feels like a small-town gem, serving fresh ingredients in a cozy, charming setting.

Our first time eating here for Sunday brunch. It was a nice little home feeling place. Food was good nothing special. They have a good sized menu with your typical breakfast dishes. That’s the reason for not giving 5-stars. Prices are average, both of our dishes were $17. Service was alright but they were busy. Took a little while to take our order and food took some time to come out. They have outdoor sitting and looks like it would be a nice place to dine at on a nice spring or summer day. We will most likely visit again on a warmer day to sit outside.

This establishment offers delicious food! It's a very busy and noisy place and I highly recommend having a reservation before arriving. They do have some bar seating for anyone if you don't have time to book a reservation. They also have a gravel parking lot right next to it, which is nice. I had their flatbread special, and it was AMAZING! It was pear, goat cheese, arugula, pancetta, and some balsamic vinegar.... SO GOOD! 😋

You will want a reservation. Staff is friendly and quick. The menu is sort of small and they were out of tortellini. The hamburger was amazing! The fries are fair at best. They are battered but sere cooked well. Side salads are generous and good. Prices are a little high. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Soft drinks are overpriced.

It was my third time here, other two visits happened during Spring and Summer, and the menus are evidently seasonal with some regular items. We settled for Crabmelt, BLT Chicken Croissant Sandwich (both served with crunchy, crispy fries) and (regrettably) shared a bowl of Harvest Salad (mixed lettuce, cranberry, apple, feta cheese, cucumber, pumpkin seeds and an amazingly tasty in-house vinaigrette). The salad is handcrafted the gods!!! The crabmelt is flavourful, crunchy and as luscious as it looks, and consciously recommended. The chicken sandwich comes in a soft, glossy croissant filled with rich sapid chicken in a bed of lettuce that voluntarily melts between your palates. What a gratifying lunch on a Sunday afternoon in the reticent Sumner, with a receptive service!!!!

I went in on a reservation with a friend. The thing that kind of upset me about that is the table/corner They put us at had a bump where the seat is making it a small space where I would’ve hit my elbow against the wall constantly while trying to eat. I did ask for a different table and got one, so it ended up working. The rest of my visit was great. Service was wonderful. And the food was light and tasty and fresh. I ordered the salmon salad my friend ordered the Chicken strawberry salad. She said hers was fresh and tasty also.

We've been to Windmill Bistro several times. The food is consistently delicious, the staff is consistently delightful, and we have been lucky enough to walk in without reservations and get a table more times than not. A delightful bonus this time - grapefruit nomosas! Alcohol free mimosas!! As a non-drinker who does miss wine and wine related beverages, I was thrilled! The only knock is the lack of vegan options. Some day.

This review is for rental of the space for our rehearsal dinner. When we decided to get married in Sumner, we knew we would love to have our rehearsal dinner somewhere in the area. After a quick Google search, we stumbled upon Windmill Bistro. We're glad we did! The grounds are absolutely amazing and a stunning first look at the area for out-of-town guests. They have the perfect area for rehearsing a wedding, and in those nice summer months, the flowers are in full bloom and the weather is pleasant. The nicest thing about this restaurant is that they closed the place for our private event. We were able to rent out the entire space, which is beautifully decorated and spacious. Even for our large group of 60, folks were able to mix and mingle. Overall, I would highly recommend looking into Windmill for your rehearsal dinner. That said, there are two areas of opportunity for the Bistro. Communication is challenging. Because they are a small restaurant, they do not have a full-time dedicated events person, so it wasn't always easy to get a response in a timely manner. Closer to our rehearsal dinner, it was better, but leading up was tough at times. Second, I'd recommend that if you do a buffet, you opt not for the taco bar. While it was fine, it's very basic and bland. We've eaten there several times and have always enjoyed our burgers and seafood - I'd recommend going that route for your menu choice. Overall, it was fantastic and the perfect way to kick off the wedding weekend! (Photos by Courtney Bowlden Photography)

Go during breakfast!! Went for lunch and it was good but nothing insane. But the breakfast, so good, satiated just what I needed. Very friendly service but a little slow, waited for bill for a bit. Atmosphere was nice and standard.

Our group reserved a table for a small celebration, and the staff handled everything with care. The appetizers came out promptly, the entrees were well seasoned, and the pace of service was just right for a relaxed evening.

We had dinner here tonight for the first time. The restaurant was cute and clean. We made reservations since it was Sat night but it wasn’t overly crowded. The food was amazing! We had the cheese curd appetizer. Crispy, flavorful and delicious. For dinner we had the pasta special, fish and chips(with sweet potato fries) and ceasar salad. Everything was amazing! The ceasar salad could’ve used more (or some because it seemed to be missing) cheese but otherwise everything was delicious. The menu is small so warning for picky eaters to look ahead at menu. Can’t wait to try the brunch menu! The only thing that wasn’t great was the service. Our waitress was nice but she was busy - like had all 8 or so seated tables and wasn’t as attentive as I would’ve expected. She was slow to check on us and for refills and we were done eating over twenty mins before we could even ask for bill and then it took another twenty mins before we actually got our cards ran to sign for. The most perplexing part about her servicing all tables was the other 3 people standing in the back by the soda machine talking and sometimes sitting at the last table. Seems like they could have waited tables or at a minimum done refills and checked on customers. We will definitely be back and are hoping tonight’s service was just a one off.

This is a lovely place to eat! Had a decent happy hour menu and a good looking drink menu we took advantage of. Had some mistakes with the service unfortunately and the burger was unusually sweet.

The service was very good. Food was fresh and tasty. The fish n chips was delicious crispy and cooked perfectly but a bit pricey for the amount. The beet salad was refreshing and flavorful. Pancakes were ok. Clean establishment. Overall I would come back to try other items on the menu if I was in the area. Nothing to go out of my way for but nice to find a spot worth going when passing by.
