Came here on a whim, as atmosphere reminded me of a thai place I went to a lot in San Diego. The curries we ordered were flavorful and the large portions justified the slightly higher prices. Both of us had leftovers. My one main critique would be that while I shouldn't complain about free bread, a lot of bread with a huge portion of rice and a bowl of curry is a bit unbalanced. Would happily return though.
I love this place. Have been coming here for over 20 years. There are very few authentic Afghan restaurants in the South Bay. Most are in Fremont. This is the rare exception. Great chicken and lamb kabobs. They have them white and brown rice options. Lawand is great too. And the bread is the best!
This is the second Afghan restaurant I have tried, and I have fallen in love. The meat is perfectly cooked, delicious and juicy. The portions are absolutely massive, easily can feed 2 people for 1 entree. The interior is beautiful in an intimate setting. The staff are all very professional and friendly.
This has been our group's NYE dinner spot for a couple of decades. I always get a lamb dish; the Afghanis can definitely give the Greeks a good contest in preparing lamb. We always get several of their vegetable appetizers (eggplant, cauliflower, and several other choices). They also offer both plain white rice and a seasoned brown rice (my favorite) to accompany their main dishes. They also include a generous dinner bread serving. We never have room for dessert. Because I eat too many appetizers, I always bring home half my meal to have an excellent lunch the next day.
I love Kabul, I’ve been to their Sunnyvale and San Carlos locations and my family has always had a great experience. Staff is kind, attentive, and helpful when it comes to asking for recommendations. We tried their fried eggplant appetizer which was so good, you need to try it! We also ordered their beef and chicken kabobs, with their white and brown rice and everything was amazing. The place is beautiful and the Afghan culture as well!
One of the great consistent experiences in the Bay Area. Service is over the top, food is very good and the feel and vibe of the place is comfortable and inviting. The house salad dressing is unique and we don't miss the side salad every time we visit. The Aush is something between the Persian soup and Ash, it's pretty good. I have had better tasting kababs in the Persian restaurants (definitely not in northern California) but I still like their dishes. Their stews are also delicious. One of the highlights for us is the Qabili Pallaw, who would have thought that adding fresh grated carrot and raisins to cooked rice would make it a great side for kabab!
The atmosphere is relaxing and dim, the service lovely albeit a little stoic. The food however, was fantastic. The chef's platter of appetizers let's you try a variety of flavors, the eggplant in particular was my favorite. For my entree, I ordered the lamb kebab medium. It was so tender and flavorful, I highly recommend.
We got EXCEPTIONAL service, I had a little brother who was super loud and the staff were very calm and playful with him. Also the atmosphere is really good, it is located about 3 stories up so we got good views of the surrounding area. The food was also great having very good taste and the chopli kebab was nice and spicy and the kabuli palou’s lamb IMPOSSIBLY tender and we got our food fast, 100/10. 100% recommend👍
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kabul Cuisine, and it was truly a delightful experience. The food was exceptional, bursting with authentic flavors that transported me straight to the heart of Afghanistan. While the vegetarian options were somewhat limited, each dish was a culinary masterpiece, showcasing the rich tapestry of Afghan cuisine. The highlight for me was the irresistibly tasty bread, flawlessly baked and served warm – a true testament to the chef's skill. The service was impeccable, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to accommodate dietary preferences were commendable. However, parking proved to be a bit challenging, a small inconvenience easily overshadowed by the overall excellence of the restaurant. Kabul Cuisine is a gem for those seeking an authentic taste of Afghanistan, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gastronomic adventure with great service, even if you have to navigate a tricky parking situation.
I have been going to Kabul Afghan Restaurant since its opening over 30 years ago. It has always been fantastic, consistent, and the food is always fresh and delicious. The owner Mr. Najib, and his son Edris are very friendly and they oversee the operation. The staff are very friendly, and the service is great. These are few pictures of our orders. The eggplant appetizer melts in your mouth. The pumpkins appetizer is mouthwatering ( the picture doesn’t do it justice since we ordered the toppings (yogurt sauce and tomato meat sauce) on the side). The meat and chicken are very juicy and cooked to perfection. The ambiance is elegant and the decor is tasteful. We frequent this restaurant very often. I highly recommend it.
Food was incredible, had the lamb and chicken skewer. Ordered side of calliflower. Friends had chef special which was 3 appetizers combined. More than enough couldn't finish the plate. Very nice upscale place for good price. Many waiters, runners and servers to take care of the customer, 5 stars! Lamb was cooked just right at medium.
Was there on Tuesday evening to celebrate an occasion. There were several tables that seemed to be work colleagues dining together. There was a table celebrating a birthday. It was surprisingly packed for a weekday and deafeningly loud as the evening progressed. Without the noise, it has a lovely and warm atmosphere. But it got so loud that we skipped dessert so we could get out of there. There weren’t enough servers so we waited a long time for everything (food came out promptly). The servers were pleasant and never forgot to get us things or refill our water, it just all simply took a long time. My family got the combination kabab and I got the beef kabab/kabab e teka in the photo. The food was great and the portions were large. We each took home half the food we got. But next time I will ask for rare instead of medium rare because everything was cooked medium or medium well. I liked that the skewers are pulled out for you by the server. The food comes with the most delicious green sauce. I am addicted to it! Brought some home and have had it for three days now. Supposedly the old version was not spicy. The current one is so spicy/hot but doesn’t cause any digestive discomfort (which is a first for my extra sensitive gut). The food is good for the price: the beef was slightly tough, my family said the lamb was good and the chicken was juicy but the favourite was obviously beef. I would prefer to return here outside of peak hours due to the noise levels.
Ordered the food delivered so I cannot speak to the atmosphere. I ordered the vegetarian sampler and the appetizer Ashak. The pumpkin in the vegetarian platter was very tasty and I enjoyed it. The cauliflower and the greens were both fine. The bread it came with was delicious and I enjoyed it. Pricing was extremely reasonable and the portions were plentiful. I requested flatware since I was at a hotel and the establishment provided without issue which believe it or not can be difficult when traveling so bonus on the service for that. Overall I would say this is a good value for the money and the food seemed fresh and made to order.
Tried the (giant) shrimps kabab and some appetizers. The shrimps were great (but you can never go wrong with good quality seafood anyway), the rice and the bread were pretty plain. Price is on the expensive side but large portions. Appetizers were all fried unfortunately. Overall good solid spot if you’re in the mood for a lot of meats and carbs and are hungry.
Ordered the lamb chops (Chopan kabob) well done and clearly repeated the request after the server suggested medium last night Sunday , January 8th 2026! The dish arrived rare and had to be sent back to a different server ! When it returned, it was still undercooked inside. No one checked the doneness before serving it again!! Meanwhile, others at the table had already finished eating. No somagh was provided, which is standard for this dish. Disappointing experience and poor attention to a very clear request specially since they were not busy at all.
It used to be our favorite place for lamb kabobs for years. Unfortunately, the kabobs have consistently been tough, and “medium rare” always comes out medium. We’ve been making excuses for a while, but it’s probably time we start ordering them rare and hope they come out medium rare.
Had dined at Kabul (both locations) many times over the years. Salmon, chicken and shrimp were always excellent. Haven’t been here for awhile, but today the food was really bland. The real disappointment was the chicken and shrimp, which were so were tough, we couldn’t finish them. Server was nice, but didn’t offer to remedy the problem. Not the same as when the original family did the cooking. Can’t recommend.
