Oh my god this was the best meal of our lives! We started with the tartare and immediately knew we were in for an incredible meal. Our server (Rose) was so kind, friendly, and helpful. She made our experience 10 times better. The bread was also incredible, even though it wasn’t the star of the show. For our meal, we had the tenderloin and the elk medallions. I will never be able to eat steak again, it’s been ruined! Nothing will ever compare to the juicy, melt in your mouth, absolutely perfect wagyu we had here. And elk with wagyu bacon???? I’m sorry but that’s insane. We absolutely loved it! This whole meal was so rude! No meal we have will ever stack up to this! We had the chocolate hazelnut tart for desert and as a shocker to no one, it was also delicious! We are still talking about this meal and I don’t think we’ll stop anytime soon. The only negative: there was a 15-20 minute wait even though we had reservations. We got free drinks as an apology. Between the free drinks and delicious meal, we didn’t mind the wait.
Fantastic dinner with the wife and daughter. Server was very attentive and helpful with choice selections and very playful/nice To our 4yr old daughter. Food/wine/atmosphere was top notch
Dustyn our server was awesome, the pineapple Negroni to start couldn’t have been more balanced. The wine service was on point. The Waygu hot stone was out of this world. We also had the potato puree along with the creamed spinach. Everything exceeded our expectations for the evening. Can’t wait to come back next year.
Food is excellent as expected but the highlight for us was the service. Ryan is a manager there and he was all over the place helping folks out. He served us at the bar and came to our table to see how things were going. It’s not a cheap experience but well worth it if you want to spend the money.
Great restaurant, a hidden gem in the mountains near Tabernash. Definitely try their wagyu-washed old fashioned and their wagyu steaks. Probably most expensive steak I’ve had but oh so worth it.
Amazing experience at Ranch House! Everything: the food, the service, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We came to celebrate our engagement and were not disappointed. The halibut was delicious as was the chicken. We couldn't not get the family-style side of umami fries which were to die for. We opted for dessert to go and the banana cake was beautiful and light. The atmosphere is cozy and ranchesque-elegant. Exceptional service from our server Rose, Allison, and Anna and everyone else we interacted with!
We had the best time. From the warm greeting at the host stand, to bringing our coats to us as we were getting ready to leave, the service was intuitive and caring. The restaurant staff was knowledgeable and anticipated our needs, fulfilling them before we had to ask. The food was memorable, delicious and carefully constructed with creativity and attention to detail.
We had the most amazing dinner at Devil's Thumb Ranch House restaurant! We were celebrating our 30th anniversary. The views are gorgeous and very picturesque. From the moment we walked in until we walked out, we had top notch service and food. The experience was perfect for our anniversary dinner. I had the Alaskan halibut and it was melt in your mouth delicious. The flavors were amazing. My husband had the elk tenderloin and said it was equally delicious. When we arrived, we were served with two glasses of champagne for our anniversary. Then at the end of the meal, we were given a complimentary dessert. We chose the gluten free chocolate cake and it was so good. Also, I want to mention that I had plenty of gluten free options and the serving staff are well versed in gluten allergies. The Ranch House made us feel special and we cannot wait to return!
Great atmosphere, very rustic, warm and welcoming. Wonder drink selections with an extensive wine list. They were out of several entree/steak items, but had great recommendations. We tried the Reserve Wagyu Tasting, did not disappoint. Very tender & flavorful. "In the woods" truffle martini was a show stopper if you like truffle oil. Great views, cozy space.
Food, service, and atmosphere was incredible! Don’t come expecting normal size portions, your meal will be small. But delicious!
The atmosphere, service and views can’t be beat, but the food and drinks were not as good at our recent visit. We were there in May 2023 and again in October 2024. The food and drinks in October were good, but we were all a little disappointed compared to what we had in May. The overall experience is still a great one though!
The ambience is phenomenal. The service was great. I ended up not having a great night after this meal, but that may have been the lack of roughage/veggies. Or the fact I had meat in every dish including the old fashioned! Lol. At the price point, and the appeal of raising their own wagyu, I was hoping for a bit more/next level with each dish. I would certainly give them another shot as we definitely plan to come back to the ranch. Next time, more veggies.
The restaurant was a very beautiful place to visit and we came to the Ranch House with expectations of a fabulous meal. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed with the food and service during our meal. We started with a Caesar Salad and the Potato/Corn Chowder. Both of these looked great but did not have a great deal of flavor. We ordered the $198 Wagyu Tasting for our main entree. It came with 3 different cuts of meat which we had to cook over a hot stone. None of the three meats had much flavor and the portion size was very small for a $198 entree. The hot stone was a nice presentation and worked well, but the overall flavor and tenderness of the Wagyu was not very good. We had sides of Creamed Spinach and Yukon Potatoes. Both of these were presented well but again, lacked any sense of flavor. On the positive side, the portion size was generous, but we were again disappointed with the taste. We skipped dessert because our expectation was that it would be disappointing after the rest of our meal. We ordered a bottle of wine and the server poured our first glass, but after that we were on our own to refill ourselves. On a positive note, the wine list was extensive and quite impressive. Overall, we were happy to have seen the restaurant and visited it, but we will not be going back again.
I hate to go this low however my wife and I had planned this dinner for months and were excited for farm to table Wagyu beef. I ordered the ribeye which is traditionally a fatty steak with lots of flavor. The Wagyu version tends to be even more fatty. What I was served were two pieces of meat that were tough and devoid of fat. And devoid of flavor. Having had Wagyu steak in the past I was very disappointed. My wife ordered the lamb shank. Certainly very tender however if you told me it was a pork shank I would have believed you and very little flavor as well. We had the steak tartar as an appetizer and it was good but not great. Service was about what I would expect from a decent Chili's. These cattle they serve may be genetically Wagyu however how they process is certainly not the same. My wife and I did purchase two steaks from a farmers market in Granby that were excellent, but you might have to cook those on your own. Worth it though.
Nice dining experience with top-quality steak and impeccable flavor. However, the portion sizes are notably small, which may leave you wanting more. Largest steak on the menu is 8oz flat iron. My six ounce Denver steak was two very small pieces. While the quality is outstanding, a bit more generosity in the servings would elevate the overall experience. The wine pours were a bit light as well. If you’re looking for a place that prioritizes flavor over quantity, this is definitely worth a visit!
Disappointing Experience at Devil’s Thumb Ranch House Restaurant We were genuinely excited to dine at Devil’s Thumb Ranch House, expecting a refined experience from a highly regarded establishment. While the service from our server was truly phenomenal—warm, attentive, and professional—the food and management response left much to be desired. The meal began on a sour note, quite literally, with a salad that was bitter, poorly seasoned, and shockingly included a live white worm crawling among the lettuce. This alone was appalling and instantly turned our stomachs. The presence of a live insect in any dish is unacceptable, especially at a restaurant of this caliber. To make matters worse, the manager’s response to this serious issue felt dismissive. Only the salad, oysters, and crudités were comped. The crudités themselves were overpowered by saffron and oddly reminiscent of green bean casserole with French onion topping- a confusing and unappealing flavor combination. Despite losing our appetite entirely, we were still charged for our beverages and a bottle of wine meant to accompany our main course, which we obviously never received. The food overall was mediocre at best, with no dish redeeming the experience after the disturbing start. The lack of balanced acidity and finesse in the flavors only compounded the disappointment. While we appreciated our server’s gracious demeanor, the manager’s lackluster handling of a very serious health and hospitality issue was deeply disappointing. At a restaurant like this, we expected much more—both in terms of food quality and guest care. Unfortunately, this experience has left a lasting negative impression.
Our server was not knowlegable about the menu nor were we told about the specials (we overheard a different server offering them from a nearby table after we already placed our order). Our Wagu beef dinners were mediocre and VERY OVER PRICED! Although the atmosphere is nice, it does not make up for the ridiculous pricing to eat there. We won't be going back.
