Super friendly person helped us, so that was nice. The Ice Cream is great (it's locally sourced from Sacramento) and the portion sizes are legit. Really happy we stopped.

Create your own sandwiches. They are wonderful. Gunther's ice cream is really good. Staff very patient and friendly. If your driving the river road, good stop to make. If your boating the delta there's a dock for you.

We made a sweet stop at Mel’s Ice Cream after lunch, and it was the perfect cherry on top of our day. We went for Rocky Road and Butter Pecan, and let me tell you—these scoops were no joke. I actually had to ask them to stop scooping. I’m not even kidding. I was like, “Okay that’s enough, I swear I can’t finish all that!” Huge, generous servings that made me feel like a kid again. The Rocky Road was rich, chocolatey, and packed with gooey marshmallows and crunchy nuts—just how it should be. And the Butter Pecan? Creamy, buttery, and full of that toasted pecan flavor that makes you close your eyes and go “Mmm” with every bite. The shop itself is cozy and nostalgic, like the kind of place you’d ride your bike to during summer break. No frills, just old-school charm and really good ice cream. Everyone there was super friendly, and the whole vibe just felt happy and easy. If you're ever in the area and craving a real treat, Mel’s is a must. Next time I might bring a second stomach—or at least someone to share with!

We finally stopped in here after driving past for so many years and it was greater than I imagined! I got 1 scoop of cookie dough and 1 scoop of butter brickle in a chocolate sprinkle cone. The ice cream is soooo creamy and sweet without being overly sweet and the cookie dough bits had a great consistency- no t dry and almost sandy like some other brands have and the butter brickle had an amazing caramel swirl and a nice amount of toffee bits. And the serving sizes are VERY generous. This took me a while to eat! Good customer service and a charming interior. We look forward to coming in again!

Mel's on the river in Walnut Grove offers food, drinks, and very tasty desserts. Parking is nearby and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy you meals. The staff here is always cheerful and polite. We will definitely be back.

Who’s going for a drive on the Sacramento Delta And saw this shop, stopped for ice cream and some sandwiches, was amazing. They carry ice cream by going through us, and the sandwiches here are top notch. If you need somewhere to stop for lunch in Walnut Grove or Cortland, Mel’s Mocha and Ice Cream is the place you should go.

Got a veggie sandwich on sourdough bread. The Bread was dry and didn't appear to be a good quality of bread. The cheese slices, or maybe slice was sliced SO THIN, I could hardly taste it. Paying 9.00 plus, for a sandwich with NO MEAT, should at least have a decent amount of cheese. The freshness of the lettuce, tomato and especially onion was questionable. But, what can I expect from Walnut Grove??? Well, I expected a little better !!!!! This is actually my second time getting this sandwich and things got worse, not better !!!!!

Ice cream is always sweet wherever you go but you remember the bitterness in attitude and behave. The lady kinda rude very disappointed by her behave. No idea what's the reason but cold tone just ruined the experience.
