WOW! This place knocked it out of the park! Service was fast and very friendly. Staff was able to accommodate my wife's dietary restrictions with ease. Food was served fast, hot and fresh. Noticed that staff members who didn't have anything to do were going around and cleaning. This place is definitely on my "will be a regular" list.
My husband and I just had breakfast here this morning and it was so good!! The service was great, the owner was very nice. Everything was amazing!!! I had an omelette and it was delicious. My husband had pancakes and they were also delicious.Loved the hashbrowns, toast ,sausage everything was amazing!!!! Keep up the great work, can’t wait to come back!!!!!!!
Good selection of food. Great service.
I've been here a handful of times, and I never seem to remember it on my own until a friend reminds me! And it's a shame because this place is wonderful. A cute little restaurant that is clean, comfortable and friendly. It's usually pretty busy, but the food is delicious! On my most recent visit, I had the Country Scramble, and their sausage gravy is delicious. My friend had the burger basket, and neither of us had leftovers! I mean, we should have... But it's too good. Definitely reasonably priced for the food you get!
Everyone is so friendly and takes the time to get to know their customers. The food is fantastic and the orders come out quickly. I've fallen in love with the French toast, but everything I've had has been phenomenal!
Always awesome, been coming here (& the owner Paul's restaurant that was on Bailey in Lovejoy) many many years. Chicken soulvaki to die for as is all food, service is the best, can't wait til we're back on this area again to go back, hopefully Paul will be there !
Athena's it's always a good place to go for a meal good. I've been going there for several years and I don't think I've ever been disappointed by the portions or the quality of the food. Back a few years ago when I was single I would go there on either Mondays or Wednesdays because they had pigs in the blanket it's a special those days. Don't know if they still do oh, maybe I need to check that out. So give it to you this a try I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
They treat you like family over there. The place is beautiful. It’s a step above some of the other Greek restaurants that I’ve been to. I consistently like to get the chicken Slovakia and they also have some Italian dishes that are bomb.
We love Athena’s. Why? You just don’t find places like this anymore. You can actually get a scrumptious home cooked dinner at Athena’s for a great price. Tough to do these days. We went for dinner this past Saturday and ordered the strip steak special for two for $32.95. Our 10-12oz steaks were tender and juicy and the mashed potatoes were good. It also comes with a salad and we modified it to a Greek side salad for a little upcharge. My mom had the leg of lamb and my dad had the chicken and beef mixed open souvlaki. They both enjoyed their meals. Our daughter had the huge kids’ spaghetti and meatball. The meatball and sauce are both homemade and, coming from an Italian home chef who won’t settle for any sauce, it was good. A meaty and just sweet enough red sauce. Can’t wait to go back. Thank you host Niko and our server who gave my dad a little extra of a hard time for us! lol! See you again soon.
Fresh Greek Salad and tasty Gyro. Fast and friendly service. The best Greek diner in town. You can tell how good the food is by the always full parking lot. Yet, there is always an open parking space and it doesn't take long to get seated and served. All day breakfast food, daily specials, Friday fish fry, elegant entrees, and a nice variety of beer and wines. All this makes a nice dining experience. Great food, Moderate pricing and an abundance of friendly wait staff. Pay your bill at the cashier on the way out. You are never rushed and yet the flow of patrons moves quickly. I was very impressed.
Very family oriented and calming place. Enjoyed my Chicken Souvlaki and my friend enjoyed their BLT. We are likely to return again. The only thing I would like to see is better clarification of hours. A friend and I chose this location to meet at 1pm, to find out that though the hours state 10am-6pm, they close at 2pm. We will adjust for next time as we will return, but encourage management to state hours they close to clean and set for later meal where patron can see.
Great breakfast food, great Greek food. I highly recommend their french toast, it's delicious. I loved the Greek Sampler Platter, everything was cooked perfectly, and absolutely delicious. Their fish fries are also great. They are almost always busy when I go to pick up food, I've never sat down to eat in the evening, only in the morning, and both times, were great. The staff is extremely nice, and service is great, too.
I enjoyed my dining experience from the moment I walked in the door. All of the servers were smiling and friendly. The food was delicious and the portions were huge! I ordered the Greek sampler and got enough food for two meals! Our server was attentive and anticipated our needs wonderfully. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I'm craving Greek food.
The staff were so friendly, especially when they found out we were visiting from Texas to go to our first nfl game and gave us so many tips on where to go to have the best experience
I am a busy business owner which forces me to eat out often. In recent months my top restaurants pics have gone down hill. I get it, cost of food, lack of employees etc. This place never lets me down! Prices remain fare and portions have not decreased. They must be opting to make less profit and treat their loyal customer base to the same delicious food with the same huge portions! THANK YOU ATHENA’S!
Fast service on a Friday. Enjoyed the fish fry. Everything looked appetizing.
I believe my 5 Stars says it all! Met with a friend to have Lunch and the Service was friendly and comfortable. Maria, our waitress was patient and relaxed. The food was served quickly and was excellent! Atmosphere! Didn't feel "hurry up!" like chain restaurants! Yes, would recommend! Yes will return! 😊
A great choice for lunch! Our food was fresh and fast, our server Nancy was very friendly and efficient. Nancy, Kim, and another young lady (who seated us and was at the register) all deserve to be recognized for their great service and very friendly demeanor. They were very engaging and made us feel welcome and appreciated. We were there on Sunday, May 26th, Memorial Day Weekend; they didn't treat us like tourists, it was more like visiting family.
Love it here. Great food for a good price. Staff is wonderful
Our family really enjoyed our meal here. Joannie is a great server!
Super fast service and terrific food! We were seated immediately on a busy Saturday evening and the food was out quickly as well. When the food was out it was delicious with good sized portions and very affordable prices for a dinner. The rice pudding is terrific, though I don't think any of the desserts could be a bad decision. Highly recommended.
Portions are nice and food is always consistently good. Love going here for breakfast.
Going to the falls yesterday and stopped in. Spaghetti and meatballs 😘 but the soup was the star! I missed the biscuits and gravy (to late) leaving the falls today and 😅 got my biscuits. I also had soup again. Definitely try the soup of the day when you get here. Waitstaff is pleasant, professional and quick
First time being here. The service, food and prices were great. Huge portions and sooo good!
Very good food, fair prices. Service is usually excellent. It's our go to place for good Greek food that is close to where we live. Breakfast is probably the best thing they do but the dinners, especially the chicken souvlaki, are good as well.
Easily one of my favorite places to eat. Their food is always consistent and really good. I feel like they're more like a staple of the area, than a restaurant.
We enjoyed a very good breakfast even with the Eagles fans around the room! Go Bills!!
Crazy good! The food is above and beyond. Really delicious! What a true Western New York gift. Probably the best breakfast or at least one of the top 5 in the area. Incredible lunch and menu. Outstanding coffee. I mean real good. Very clean well maintained. Modestly decorated. Not to busy or loud. The service? Charming, fast, high quality. This restaurant is very well managed and it really shows. I'd give this place 10 🌟 if I could.
My husband & I have been patrons since 1995. It seemed we were the only young patrons in their early 20's dining in this quaint cozy restaurant surrounded by seniors. 30 years later we are beginning to blend in 😂. The food is always delicious. My go to's are the Chicken Soulvaki and the potato skins with the teki sauce is out of this world and VERY FILLING! 9 times out of 10 we walk in and are seated immediately. Don't let a full parking lot or seeing a hallway full of people waiting discourage you from dining here! We have NEVER waited more than 10-15 minutes. They turn over tables quickly and never rush anyone out. I don't know how the do it but they do and without losing the quality of food or the service! Highly recommend!
Went on Fathers Day, which we knew would be busy, but we were seated within 5 minutes. The food was delicious! I highly recommended the French toast!
I love it here. Has that family vibe to it. Prices are good and there are so many options on the menu. There's definitely something for everyone. When in doubt, chicken souvlaki is where it's at! Pictured is the Chicken souvlaki dinner, chicken souvlaki wrap And potato skins with taziki.
I love this place it’s my number one favorite to get a great meal 🥰
It's simple style with home cooking feeling. Great service and especially decent pricing.
I freakin’ love this place. Mixed Grilled Platter every time.
Love this place!!! And as busy as it gets, the turn over rate is great so little to no waiting! Great food and service! Keep up the great work guys! Because it’s extremely hard to find great food AND service these days! You are greatly appreciated 😊
The food is fantastic! The host and waitresses are all so friendly and wonderful! Everyone that comes in is treated like part of the family. The best Greek food around and I highly recommend the rice pudding. Delicious!
Husband and I had the best waffles and eggs, service was fast and very friendly cant wait to go back for lunch or dinner and would drive the hour and a half to do so
Our breakfast was amazing! Great food! Our waitress was attentive and cheerful. The restaurant was busy with happy hungry people coming and happy full folks leaving.
Athena's Family Restaurant Athena's Family Restaurant offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a focus on hearty, home-style meals. Known for generous portions and classic American comfort food, it’s a popular spot for families and casual diners. The menu includes breakfast favorites, sandwiches, and daily specials, all made with fresh ingredients. Service is friendly and attentive, making it a reliable choice for a satisfying and relaxed dining experience. Great for those seeking a cozy, no-frills family meal.
he restaurant is praised for generous portions and value. One reviewer said: “Huge portions of chicken Souvlaki dinner. … We love the season and the service.” Athena's Family Restaurant +1 Friendly and attentive staff: “Our waitress is probably one of the best I’ve ever had. … Very clean inside. Highly recommend.” Athena's Family Restaurant Good for a wide range of meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. The breakfast menu is noted (“French toast” recommended). Athena's Family Restaurant +1 Solid menu variety with Greek-American flavor: items like chicken & beef mixed souvlaki, leg of lamb, Greek chicken sandwich
Place was packed but there was delay in attention at our table. Coffee started to get low and they were on it. Same with our waters plus waitresses made sure our food was satisfactory on a few occasions throughout our time are our table. Food was excellent and very affordable considering the quality. Couldn't have been happier.
This is my third time at Atena's. I live out of town. The food is always good and reasonably priced. Today, I had the italian omelet with italian bread. Everything was delicious. My only complaint is that I was walking in with a cane, and the lady sat me at the furthest table away from the door. I know I could have said something but was curious if she would have any empathy. When people come in limping or with a walker or cane, please sit them closer to the door. A man, a veteran sitting at a table near me was limping, and they sat him far away, too. My waitress was great checking on me often.
Came here for dinner as I was in the area and was pleasantly surprised by how great the food was. The special Greek dinner was huge, with plentiful fresh salad (great dressing!), excellent gyros. We also got the steak and cheese sub which was very good! The kids cheeseburger and fries was large but basic. Service was lovely. Prices reasonable. Would absolutely come again.
Fantastic waitress who was quick and friendly. I had Paul’s omelet which was something very different for me. It was interesting and good; 3 eggs, Sahlen’s hot dogs, home fries and onions inside, Feta and American cheese on top with a side of special sauce on side. It came out hot which is important to me.

Was amazing as always and nicely priced . One of my go to breakfast spots in WNY .. they also have amazing pancakes
Through the years, I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner at Athenas. Food has always been very good, portions are generous and prices are reasonable. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. …
Food was very good. A++ Service was pretty slow. Did not come back to table to check on us or see if we needed refills. Forgot to bring items to table. I'll give a D for services. Otherwise it was good over all
Great food, really friendly service... One star off because less than well done lamb is my preference and I'd be happier with baked orzo and tomato and not the huge serving of mint jelly and a star off for atmosphere because it's a dinner (it's a nice one but it is what it is)
The service was awesome. We came in an hour before closing time, it was pretty busy, but no wait time for anything! Immediately we were seated and drinks followed less than 5 min afterwards. The food came out in less than 15 min. All that with the restaurant being short waitresses as well as a hostess. The staff I did see were all hustling and moving fast, and can be heard working together by delivering drinks and food to tables they were not assigned too. My boyfriend ordered a burger and said it was fantastic. Juicy, big, and a perfectly toasted roll. I ordered chicken parm. The portion was HUGE, chicken juicy, and lightly breaded. The sauce is where the meal lost me. It was a sweet flavor rather than an Italian sauce. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't what I was looking for when I ordered "chicken parm". Other than the sauce, the restaurant and meal was overall a great experience. I would go back and try another dish.
So far I've been here twice, both times on a Friday and the food was really good with hearty portions and friendly service. I had the chicken souvlaki breakfast my first visit, it was seasoned really well and the chicken was so juicy it was almost falling apart. My second visit was for the captains platter pictured with the post. Everything was crispy and hot, served up quickly despite it being so busy.
I was looking for a good diner and Athena's fit the bill. The staff was friendly and attentive. They had good coffee, fast service, and great food. My husband was very happy with his eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast. I was happy with my pancakes and bacon. We'd definitely return and recommend the restaurant.
Very good food for a very reasonable price. The waitresses seemed to be confused on who was taking orders at what table though. And who I can only assume was the owner he kept yelling through the kitchen to the waitresses in the dinning room to ask if the tables and dinning room was clean. Definitely family owned feel. I'll definitely be back.
Cozy atmosphere✨Reasonable prices. Food such as soulvaki is good. Dinners with gravy or sauces not. Friendly service.
Shallowest bowl of Italian wedding soup I've ever seen. Not even enough to share! Anyway, it was good but wouldn't order any soup here, going forward. My husband liked his eggs and sausage, but home fries were not crisp, just like boiled potatoes. Spanikopita was good, but also a small size.
Good food and prices. One thing that occurred was chicken fingers were ordered by a kid on children's menu and we were brought full size order at regular menu price. Didn't know that until check came. Muushroom and pepper omelette was very thin. Should have been thicker and not thin like a crepe. There were enough mushrooms though.
I like to support small business in my area but I feel compelled to relate my experience with Athena's so that maybe the owner can check on his kitchen and assure quality food is served. \nThe staf…

Waitresses were a bit disorganized. Had one take my order then another ask for my order a minute after the first left. Burger was overcooked and flattened. Had little to no flavor and was dry. Fries were fries. Self seasoned, so that's nice. Pickle was nicely flavored. Best part of the meal was the carrot cake. Waitress service was quick, accurate and kind, disregarding the disorganization at the start. Ambiance is nice for a family restaurant. Prices are great for the portions given.
The,kitchen refused our server Lauren request to make 1 egg scrambled & 1 egg over easy unless we paid $7.00 extra to make it that way?,clearly has to come from the owner really how ridiculous not the employees fault their only following his guide lines food is always very good & big portions
Service was great, food was decent and for me it was a little expensive.
This place is always busy, but the food is very basic. My husbands salad had exactly 1 olive on it and 1 Chuck of tomato. I actually wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. The Greek selection is pretty slim. You get way more bang for your buck and bigger portions at Rachel’s in you’re craving Greek. I live close to here, but we won’t be back.
Terrible server! Food was excellent however our server was unfriendly, she never smiled and when our food arrived she dumped the plates and walked away not asking if everything looked okay. Well it wasnt okay my husband needed more napkins and hot sauce. If the restaurant was busy it would be easier to understand why she did this, unfortunately she dropped off our plates and walked up front to counter and leaned there to talk to the other servers. We were waving our arms and trying our best to get someones attention no such luck all the ladies were too deep in conversation to notice. My husband had to get up and go ask for his napkin and hot sauce. On the bright side whoever is cooking the food was great!
Used to be a favorite- disappointed in the last takeout order. Wasn’t worth the price we paid.
Used to go here alot. Food is reasonably priced but dont ask for modifications with the menu. That's a no no Server had a bad attitude when asked for the menu change, she said the cook said no and she didn't make the rules and she only makes 1032 an hour.
The soup was amazing. The BLT was good. The fries were underdone and no flavor. Service was terrible. Saw our waitress only when she took our order, when she dropped off the food, and when she dropped off the bill. She never came back and asked if we needed anything, never checked on drinks/coffee, never asked how things were. I had to flag down the young hostess to get a coffee refill. No one paying attention to anything as I kept trying to get someone's attention to get one coffee refill. My friends got breakfast and the toast and home fries were way too dark/burnt. I'd come back here to get soup to go, but would not go here for breakfast again due to the dismal service.
The fish in the fish frys has gotten smaller.its understandable to raise prices a little to make ends meet but people don't like to see less. A large pile of macaroni salad doesnt make up for it.
We've eaten here every time we are in the area. \nThe prices are very reasonable as listed on the menu, but BE SURE TO ASK ABOUT THE CHARGE ON EVERYTHING YOU ORDER.\n\nThe ambiance is wonderful...n…

Chicken Cesar salad was ok at best. Croutons were stale bread with no seasoning. The chicken was good. The dressing was poor. I had a side of fries. They were fried in old oil, not good. My wife had the Greek burger. The beef is very low grade and the feta was more like a dry cottage cheese. Our waitress, Molly, was very pleasant. We won’t return.
We had breakfast the home fries were terrible, like no potatoes I have ever had. Like they were old greek potatoes from days before and cut up for home fries they were inedible. The scrambled eggs tasted like powdered eggs and the bacon was dried up. We also had pancakes that were tasteless. Our server was very good though. We were very disappointed
The breakfast there was good but there was no friendly greeting or a smile from our waitress. They way overcharge for hot tea and you pay extra for every little thing. Honey, in a tiny packet, was an extra charge. First time I’ve ever been charged like anywhere. This was not the first time we’ve experienced extra charges or paying for more than what we got there so just make sure you check your bill. We went back there as it was very convenient to meet friends and the food was good. Having said that there are many more places out there that are more customer friendly so it is not on our favorite place to go list.
This place used to be a favorite unfortunately the food quality has gone way down and the prices way up! I asked for extra feta on my slovaki salad since it didn't come with much on it, was charged for it on my bill!! We also got two slices of cake to go @ $8 a slice!! We are retired I can't afford to spend over seventy dollars for 2 salads and an order of potato skins. 👎

After spending two decades as a patron of your restaurant, you managed to destroy it in less than 30 seconds! You would think knowing people have the ability to pull up your restaurant and review immediately, you’d be a little more careful with your food and customer service. We’re all aware of the stress the pandemic has caused on businesses, but some seem to function without major problems, while others don’t care one way or the other. You’re the latter... You served raw French fries with a to go order and when given the opportunity to correct the issue, you failed in a magnanimous way. Not once, but twice, tried to accuse me of not bringing the uncooked ones back when I did, then blamed the person at the register didn’t hear me or know what to do and then claiming to be closed before correction was made on my order. I wanted to bring the whole to go order back and throw it at your windows! But not even you can force me to waste my hard earned money unless it was ordering and expecting cooked food to be served when it wasn’t. This isn’t my first issue with your restaurant, but I made a lot of excuses for people who clearly don’t deserve it or my families patronage. Eventually, you will do this to enough people that you won’t have any local customers who will knowingly go into or order from your restaurant anymore. I hope the owners wipe up the floor with all of you involved... sadly, I know they don’t have the ability to fire your butts because they are looking for people currently. Enjoy your moment while it lasts... karma always comes around.
I recently went to Athena's in Tonawanda. The waitress and replacement waitress were totally miserable with each and every simple request. The primary reason for my complaint is that my 75 year old friend was charged for a meal she received that was undercooked. She had to return her $15.00 egg breakfast twice as eggs were runny and did not want to chance a sickness through Bird Flu. My friend ordered a different egg breakfast which was then cooked properly. After leaving the restaurant I was told she was still charged for the returned breakfast. I call BS. I realize "good help" is hard to find these days, "Athena Restaurant" please step up your game and stop taking advantage of elderly customers. Totally disgusted.
Terrible. Waitress was too busy talking to the other employees and customers that she barely paid us attention. Restaurant was dirty. A male employee walked, not ran, to the bathroom while holding his hand over his mouth while puke was coming out! The other employees saw this and did nothing to clean up the filthy rug that the vomit was on. I won't even critique my omelet because I couldn't eat it after witnessing that! I will never go back.
Their always closed when I go there I mean, they're like closing and it up at like 7-7:15. It feels like they're never open later Even on the weekends. ? I mean, Their food is okay but it's changed and it feels like if you're not there between 4 and 6, it's not fresh.
Terrible food. The owner's daughter is a snob. We've always gone there and left big tips. The owner's daughter snubbed us off never go back again
Sat at my table and was ignored while other tables were being served that had Come in after me. I asked if maybe we were over looked and the owner came over and she said look around I don’t need your business. As we walked out the hostess and even a server apologized for her rude and unprofessional behavior. I guess the employees don’t like her either. The food is just average.
Order beef slovaki to go and got four pieces of meat in it really i will take my business elsewhere like tully's or texas roadhouse will you get your money's worth o mg I just tasted the beaf tasted like mush horrible soggy bread not worth 5 dollars
service was amazing our waitress was super helpful and friendly the food was absolutely disgusting and had a weird after taste
You don’t get seated, you get pointed in the rough direction of a table and eventually handed menus that are physically stuck together. The food was simply bad. A money grab to say the least. What a tough meal to swallow physically and metaphorically. The waitress was somewhat decent to your face but I don’t know who she thought she was fooling. Everything about this restaurant is fake and unappealing.
Greeted by a less than warm young lady who tossed our menus down on the table. We ordered Greek fries. They were French fries covered in cold feta with a side of Greek dressing. I ordered a Greek salad and asked to hold the pepperocini. Folks, this Greek salad comes with ONE GREEK OLIVE ON TOP and half a pita. There's nothing else Greek about this salad... except another mound of feta. The restaurant calls it an "open garden" salad. What... what IS that? I asked for Greek salad. Garden isn't even in the conversation. The gyro was built upside down or something. Veggies on bottom.... and guess what...a mound of feta... and then the meat with almost no tzaziki. Perhaps try Olympic or Olympia instead.
I came to this restaurant with my friend after church on Sunday (08/24) around 2 pm and had a very unpleasant experience with the cashier. She was a short blonde girl, and the way she handed me the receipt came across as extremely rude and dismissive. The look she gave me made me feel uncomfortable, almost as if it was because I am Asian or maybe she is just rude in general. Either way, that kind of attitude is not acceptable in customer service. Considering this restaurant is mostly filled with white customers, I expected better treatment and basic respect. Very disappointing.
