Larrupin Cafe is a gem known for its exceptional food, outstanding service, and cozy atmosphere. The appetizer board is a hit, and the grilled dishes are a specialty. Some found the steaks tough and the interior cold.

1st off let me say I usually dont write reviews. I was in Trinidad staying while I visited the Redwoods. Was referred to this restaurant by the air b n b host. We initially went without a reservation and they were busy, however, they gave us a time that we could return. Upon our return we were sat quickly and we had an amazing server. We ordered the rib and brisket plate with twice baked potato. We also ordered the ribeve with sweet potato both with their house salad. Everything was cooked well. Perfect taste on all except brisket. It wasn't dry but not moist. I ate it all though but thatvi would say 7.5 out of 10 while Everything else 9 out of 10. They do give you a charcuterie board with your meal. It was ok. Some things have a unique taste but I did eat 70% of it. All in all i highly recommend
A gem of a local spot - with all the ambience and warmth of a neighborhood favorite, including cute quirks and charm to the cafe. We had a party of 7 and enjoyed a relaxing dinner with attentive service, not being rushed, and excellent food. Shared appetizers were excellent, including the creole prawns (highly recommend), and don't miss the crab cakes. Interesting touch with carpets as table linens -- if you're into unique atmosphere and delicious dining, this is your place.
I rarely review places but after eating here with my wife I just had to rave about the great food and fantastic service. The atmosphere is romantic and our waiter, Randy, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It’s out of the way but well worth the drive. 5-stars!
Stumbled across this gem last night. Thought we would give it a try based on the advertised menu. Walked into a Halloween decorated older building. Was a bit nervous at first, but we were quickly and warmly greeted by the friendly staff. In a short time we were seated and Randy came over to our table. He was very proud of everything they had to offer us and thoroughly described every possible choice. After making our choices with his input and placing our order, he surprised us with a complimentary charcuterie board as an appetizer. The varied and complimenting flavors opened up and heightened our taste buds in preparation for the main course. The filets and chicken we had chosen were all very tasty and presented in a marvelous fashion. Randy even helped pair the perfect wine to go with our choices. After dinner he supplied a complimentary dessert for a birthday we were celebrating. The goat cheese Coeur a la creme dessert was a perfect finish to this exquisite meal. Overall a very pleasant experience.
We travel the world and we love great food. Who would have expected to find such a gem in a rather remote place. It reminded my wife and me of fun restaurants in Zermatt or in Svalbard. Service was top, food fantastic quality and homestyle cooked and the atmosphere very cozy! We loved the place!
What a really nice experience. We heard about this place from word of mouth and got a last second reservation. The appetizer tray of local and fresh fruits and cheeses was a perfect prep for the amazing entrees. The smoked brisket was tender and flavorful and the blackened salmon was cooked to perfection. Will definitely make sure to be back.
We went to Larrupin to celebrate our anniversary. IT WAS AMAZING! The food was awesome, the service by Gary was outstanding. The background music was perfect and the restaurant atmosphere was incredible. We were literally blown away at the perfection of the entire evening. Thank you Gary. Thank you Larrupin Cafe.
This was easily the most amazing dinner I’ve ever had! The ambiance was incredible, with great service (our waitress was so sweet and explained everything in great detail)- it truly was an amazing date night. We started with their appetizer board that comes with dinner, along with grilled oysters (they had them as a special) and the rosemary roasted garlic app. Everything was delicious and then our dinner came out which was perfect timing! The steak was cooked to perfection and truly could not have been better. Dessert was crème brûlée and a slice of chocolate pecan pie (also amazing). I have driven past this restaurant many times without ever realizing that this gem was inside! Truly worth the drive up to Trinidad and we will absolutely be back. Humboldt County is lucky to have Larrupin as a dining option!
Came for my son's 21st Birthday. First time for most of our group. Food was good, my only complaint was that the steaks we ordered were very tough and hard to cut. They were tasty! The atmosphere was chill-literally! It was super cold inside...we sat next to a fireplace with no fire. When everyone has their coats on it's a sign. Service was great! He was very informative and made good recommendations. I would recommend this place for a nice dinner.
A truly exceptional dining experience that delights all the senses. It all started with the impeccable service that made me feel attentively cared for throughout the meal. Menu standouts for me included the baked brie, the carpaccio, and steelhead fish - each bite being better than the first. The ambiance is equally captivating. The cozy atmosphere is enhanced by unique decor and warm lighting, creating an inviting and memorable setting. Will definitely be coming back!
amazing place! the food is great with fancy presentation. everything tastes excellent but the house salad. it was just too usual for this sophisticated place and I don't like bell pepper. I highly recommend to visit! make a reservation in advance, we were lucky to walk in and get the seats.
This was the best dinner we had on our entire trip! The food is truly incredible. Most of us ordered the snapper special and it was the best fish we’d ever had. The meals also came with an appetizer board which was so cute. We sat outside in the garden, and the atmosphere was so lush and beautiful! There was also lovely live jazz music on the patio. The inside of the restaurant was interestingly decorated, and I wish I could go again and eat inside. Finally, the service was incredible! Our waitress was wonderful to us and really knew her stuff. She made us realize there really are great wait staff out there! If you’re in the area, you MUST try to eat here. It will make your trip!
If you ever find yourself in northern California and within 45 minutes drive or so of this restaurant, I recommend you make the trip if you want a fabulous dining experience that stands out from other options in the area. I suggest making a reservation in advance and requesting a table on the second floor, which is a beautiful dining space. Wonderful!
This was such a memorable dinner for my husband and I! We had the filet mignon with the gargonzola sauce and mushrooms. Best I have ever tasted! The service was absolutely amazing! Our server was very friendly, attentive, but didn't bother us a lot. The atmosphere is so unique! So much to look at and conversation pieces! We will definitely be back when we visit the area and will long for their food until then!
Been before and didn't like it but wanted to go again to give it another shot before I have all my family here for my wedding next year. Had to make a reservation which is fine. When you walk in .. some may find it charming but there is really no place to stand. It's a bit cramped. I was seated quickly and ordered the brie and the brisket. They gave a complimentary board which was okay. The brie came out and it was like a dessert that I wish I didn't order. Not really what I was expecting but that's on me. Then the table next to me gets their food and she said 'oh I didn't order brisket , I ordered the fish' and the waiter picks up the plate (already placed on table) and scurried down the stairs as if I can't clearly see he has my brisket. Comes back up with brisket and fish and gives her her dish and sets mine down. In shock I give him a chance to say something and he doesn't. I don't want to say anything because I don't want to cause a scene .. make a big deal out of it. But I'm from Las Vegas and rule there is that you put a plate on a wrong table and you are not aloud to serve that to another customer. I saw what happened and wasn't going to let them throw it away but yeah I was disappointed in Garrit for not being truthful about that happening. Anyways. . I won't be returning ever. 75$ for that and just not impressed.
Overall it was a nice experience. Service was excellent, although I'd say bar and grill feel, not fine dining. Only a few vegetarian options. The food was good, but a bit all over the place. The portobello mushroom dish came with cold salad on the same plate overloaded with hot veggies. It was a soggy mess. The cheese board was very basic. Dessert was good. Not really a fan of the decor and carpet on the tables. Would be good if there was a consistent theme all round.
My experience at Larrupin’ Cafe was, regrettably, underwhelming from start to finish. I ordered the steelhead, accompanied by a baked maple sweet potato and a small salad. The fish arrived overcooked and lifeless, its texture dry and its flavor curiously absent. Steelhead, when prepared with care, is delicate and expressive. This preparation managed to silence it entirely. The portion was also surprisingly small, which only amplified the disappointment. The lone redeeming element was the salad — fresh, balanced, and properly seasoned. Unfortunately, its portion was as restrained as the steelhead’s, offering only a brief reprieve. The baked maple sweet potato delivered the final blow. What should have offered warmth and gentle sweetness instead carried an unpleasant bitterness that lingered long after the last bite. It was the last thing I tasted, and it ensured that the meal ended on a distinctly sour note. For a restaurant with Larrupin’ Cafe’s reputation, the execution fell far short of expectation, especially for the price. Precision and care are not luxuries in a dining establishment — they are the baseline. Would not recommend.
I would of gave the food a 0 stars tonight, I took my wife for a Early Valentines dinner at one of our favourite places to eat in Humboldt County, We both could not believe the Ribeye dinner that was brought to our table, we had reservations at 5pm in my wife name this evening. THE SERVICES was wonderful and the restaurant was clean as usual . First off our twice baked potatoes were luke warm and that was pushing it, our Steaks were also the same temp, maybe! the Asparagus was also the same it was the worse dinner we have had in the 23yrs of marriage at our past favourite places to eat. Very sad, and I'm lucky I got three days to try to make this up to my loving wife. Broken 💔 's forsure
Had a disappointing time here. Randomly decided to pop in for a nice meal with my fiance. Decided to splurge a bit, assuming with that high price point this place must be yummy! The menu was quite limited, and when we asked the server what non alcoholic drinks they had, she looked at us like we were crazy and didnt know! We got our food and were fairly disappointed. For a $50 plate of chicken you'd expect it to have some flavor. The best part of the whole expensive meal was the baked potato side (which was too small to sate an appetite) the server was very cold and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Left hungry and disappointed
