Fong Kee Claypot is popular for its authentic Cantonese clay pot rice, reminiscent of Guangzhou. Customers rave about the textures and flavors, especially the crispy rice crust. Expect a wait, especially during peak hours, but the food and friendly service are worth it.

Reignited my love for clay pot rice! My party of 5 shared 2 large clay pots, 1 appetizer, and 1 veggie dish. Good portions and meat ratio too. The nice servers can help stir the rice if you are inexperienced like me. And if you aren't a fan of the crunchy rice, dig in asap! I would recommend adding soy sauce because the rice is bland. I ordered the Chicken with Mushroom and Beef clay pots. Very fresh and piping hot comfort food. Will have to come back to try more.
My son and I really enjoyed the clay pots very much. It’s not fast food … they do cook the rice in the clay pot, so expect to wait a little before it comes out. It’s worth the wait. The burned rice at the bottom, when mixed with the rest of the clay pot gives it a wonderful texture that can’t be replicated except by giving the clay pot rice time on top of the flames.
Good food. Tried the Claypot beef and braised beef. They were well seasoned. The environment was clean and comfortable.
It’s my first visit here. I loved the rice casserole and the fried pork ribs. The rice casserole was very authentic and delicious, just like the best ones I had in China. The place was clean and the service was great. The manager answered my questions and when she saw there’s oil on my hands, she got me a paper napkin before I asked. I was very grateful!
We waited for a few minutes to get in. When you see a restaurant selling Hong Kong/Cantonese food with all the customers speaking Cantonese, you know you’re in the right place! The clay pot rice was really delicious and came with a decent portion. The soup was pretty good, too. The service was much better than the average of Asian restaurants. Definitely recommend it and will come back again!
Authentic clay pot rice place. Tastes like you’re back in guangzhou. Get the clay pot rice with eel, it’s delicious!
Really delicious! We went on a Saturday at 11am, right when they opened and was able to get a table of 6 easily. Food was served quite quickly. All tables were filled when we left around 12.30pm. All of us agreed that the Chinese Sausage with Mushroom & Chicken Claypot Rice was our favorite among what we ordered.

yellow eel clay pot is the best clay pot rice around bay area so far! Good service and very authentic Chinese food.
Delicious food and great service here! We had clay pots and loved the textures and flavours of the food.
There's not many clay pot rice places around the area, but this is a pretty solid one. One of my favorite ones was The Chinese sausage one! It's got a good amount of meat and they did a good job not making the rice stick onto the pot too much which can be easily done if over cooked. There is also congee as well as yu choy for order as well if you're not interested in the main dishes. They also starred out with some pickled vegetables which was a nice touch. I recommend where you're eating a clay pot that You share with two people for the regular size as you might have leftovers if you're eating by yourself, Just ordering the bigger size will just add extra leftovers or if you have four or six people. The ambiance is also pretty nice too with a very large painting on one of the walls and decorative ceiling tiles! The furniture and tables don't look to have too much wear and they look pretty recent too. Waiters were mostly focused on cleaning up after a table, but they did refill water when stopped for and asked. Overall, it's just a solid place to get this type of dish with not too much fuss when ordering!
The restaurant offers an alright amount of food for the price point. They offer some great traditional dishes, and unique rice dishes in their signature clay pots. I personally liked their signature goose grains dish the best. Contrary to the name, it's filled with cubed goose meat, not the grains used to feed them, lol
This is a solid 4 star restaurant. Clay pot rice is freshly made to order, really tasty. The place can get busy and it may take a while to get a table during dinner time. Once you sit down, the service is reasonably quick and quite friendly. Excellent comfort food especially for cold winter days.
Yum! This was such a nostalgic and comforting meal. I got the chicken porridge for $7.99. Very good portions and pretty simple ingredients. The chicken is very tender and the bowl is PACKED with ginger. Since they make it in a clay pot, the porridge is a bit gooey and has texture. Great menu option if you're feeling a little under the weather. The beef porridge wasn't as great. Very chewy beef and lacked flavor. I am DEFINITELY considering coming back to try their clay pot rice dishes... They look so delicious and easily could be shared between two people!
If you want that comfort food kind of rice pot, this restaurant does it right. Your friendly local neighborhood joint that will serve up a meal that will fill you up. Our server was extremely attentive.
Review written on: 23rd May 2024 Visited the location on: 16th May 2024 This is my first time visiting. My daughter recommended this place to me. I am guessing they recently renovated the place and it looks very nice. A bit different from what you see in Google pictures. The service was good. The biggest problem is that the waitress could not speak English. After 5 min of back and forth with sign language, and writing on the phone, finally, one person came from the inside. I am guessing she was the owner. She too was not able to speak English properly but was better than the first. Anyways, eventually we placed order for 2 dishes. Whew, it took 10 min. At one point, we wanted to just walk out without ordering. Nice people though. The food was good. I would not say great, but it was GOOD. We ordered 1 Yellow eel and 1 Goose Grain. Both were Signature dishes according to the menu. You can see the photos attached. The one with Yellow stuff on top is Yellow eel. We added the special sauce they provided along with the dish, which added flavor. Since the food was served in a clay pot, it kept the food hot/warm until we finished it. Overall, we liked the experience and food, other than the trouble in ordering food.
Their clay pot rice is very good. The bottom of the clay pot has a layer of thin crust, very crisp (you can request they cook longer to get a thicker crust). Rice is by its own, dry, tasty and bouncy. Very authentic. However, their other dishes are just soso, such the duck and marinated pork and pork stomach. Recommend you come to try the rice clay pot
Excellent clay pot (eel pot and goose) and was plenty for 2 adults and 2 children. Goose dish was on the chewy end. The fried sparerib was piping hot and crunchy. Due to staff shortage, don’t except immediate attention to water refrills.
Pro: - Authentic flavor, it’s not too salty and you can adjust your saltiness by adding soysauce. - the chicken ginseng soup is good - grain goose claypot is decent - they use claypot and they actually cooked the price to perfection to get the crust on the bottom - service is good. They serve warm water Cons: - too much rice with little protein and pricy

This restaurant serves authentic Southern China Claypot rice items. It also offers good soup and side dishes. It is an austere well organized family restaurant. Staff is courteous and efficient. Claypool is great for cold rainy days.

We stopped in for dinner. There were 2 parties in front of us. I think they could have cleaned tables faster and seated people instead of having people wait so long. But we ordered 3 rice clay pots. Popcorn chicken, soy marinated pork dish, and a veggie dish. Food came out in reasonable time, so that was a plus. Popcorn chicken in my opinion was kinda bland. We ordered chicken mushroom, beef and pork patty with salted fish rice clay pots. The beef and chicken were tender and not dry. My parents said they controlled the cooking of the rice very well, it was crispy and not burnt. I think they should provide the jalapeno soy sauce instead of plain soy sauce. Overall they are not overly seasoned, rice is kinda bland but the meat was seasoned. The pea sprouts with garlic was good. Authentic clay pot but I wish it had little more flavor, but I guess better than to salty.
It is my second time here. The first time I tried the chicken clay pot and this time I ordered the signature yellow eel clay pot. Umm, both are very under seasoned and bland. There is just no taste. What is this a white people restaurant? Glancing over other reviews my experience isn't an isolated incident. They only provide the regular soy sauce and I agree with some other reviewers. They should have provided the spicy soy sauce to add more flavor because even after pouring the soy sauce into the rice, it still tastes very bland. You have to wait up to half an hour for your rice. I would not be coming back given the price they charge is insanely expensive. The default tip is 18% lol. I have visited many clay pot restaurants in San Mateo, San Jose and SF city. They provide much better value and the foods actually have taste. Their service is nice though. They gave me a phone stand when they noticed that I was holding up my phone with one hand while eating with another.
Ordered the yellow eel, goose grain, beef brisket in clay pot, spare ribs with black bean sauce, popcorn chicken, and soy marinated combo. Food: 2-4 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: Casual Value: 3.5/5 In terms of the claypot, the goose grain was the best and most flavorful (4/5). The yellow eel was a disappointment as it lacked flavor. Just tasted bland (2/5). The spare ribs were okay but still could’ve used more flavor (3/5). The beef brisket was great though (5/5). Was very comforting, soft beef that pulled a part, great flavor and sauce. I’d order that dish again. The popcorn chicken surprisingly was better than it looked. The breading was okay, but the chicken was juicy (4/5). Service was fine as it’s mainly 1-3 staff managing the counter and attending to tables. Could be more attentive though. Value wise, it is pretty reasonable but not as good as some competitors. I probably would try something else before coming back again.
