From the moment we entered, the atmosphere was beautiful, the staff very kind and welcoming. The food was really decent, everything tasted good and delicious. Value for money, you pay very little for what you get and the portions are plentiful. Nothing to complain about, we had a wonderful time. I'd happily return and highly recommend it!
I dined here on a Saturday evening with a group of friends, drawn by the positive reviews. We can only confirm what other guests have said: the food was very good and the portions generous. I especially recommend the starters. The place is small but well-kept, and the waiter who looked after us was very friendly and helpful.
Two of us showed up, and even though the outdoor dining area was about to close, the owner, Elio, went out of his way to prepare a table for us. He made himself available right away, bringing us menus and drinks. When we chose our dishes, I recounted my (terrible!) past experience! I had already visited Venice and was shocked by the typical Venetian-style liver dish, even though it was a dish I love. Elio, with the confidence of someone who knows what he's selling, invited me to try it again, explaining in detail how to prepare it. Enchanted by his kindness, I accepted the invitation and am very glad I did. The liver was served with hot polenta, and the aroma alone made me realize that this would be a very different experience from the previous one. I grabbed my fork and stopped eating only when my plate was completely clear. At the end of dinner, Elio approached the table, and I couldn't help but thank him for convincing me to try again. He spent half an hour chatting with us about what Venice has to offer. It was truly a pleasant experience. The location was also very welcoming. Small and quaint. As soon as I stepped inside, I felt a sense of familiarity, even though it was my first time there. A complimentary coffee and amaro, along with an invitation to return, rounded off my experience impeccably. Thank you so much.
The thing that made the evening even better was this dinner. The staff is always smiling, very present and available to answer any questions, especially Elio, who was truly kind and always ready to cheer us up. The sciallatelli "La Lanterna" were the best we've ever eaten, as was the spaghetti with clams. Next came a delicious fried fish dish, not like the ones you eat everywhere full of oil; a light and very tasty batter. To finish, an excellent homemade tiramisu and chocolate panna cotta, a delight!!! I have to say we'll be back very often because both the dinner and the staff were truly enjoyable! There should be more restaurants like this, but I have to say that La Lanterna is unique!! Thank you so much!!
We spent three days in Venice, and on our last day, a friend of ours took us to this restaurant, where the food is divine!!! The fish is incredibly fresh, everything is truly delicious and beautiful! It's a small but very cozy place where the food is excellent, and the owner, Elio, is very nice and friendly!! We were amazed by the place and the food. We'll definitely come back and eat there every day! 😅 And we'd recommend it to anyone you love!
We visited this restaurant on the last evening of our stay in Venice and were extremely satisfied. The place is small but cozy, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I especially recommend the lobster scialatielli: the portion was huge and succulent, and the grilled fish was also exceptional. We also enjoyed the desserts. All the fish was tender and of high quality. The price is slightly above average, but considering the quality of the dishes, that's fair enough.
Even though I'm Venetian, I'd never been to this restaurant. Intrigued by the good reviews, I decided to try it with my wife on Saturday for lunch. The place is small but welcoming, the service is very friendly (even with our dachshund), and the food is good and respects Venetian tradition. Decent wine selection and reasonable bill. I recommend it.
Assolutamente consigliato. Grazie mille. Mirco ( Roma ).
Top quality and courtesy! We were immediately greeted by the owner, and we had excellent fish and meat dishes.
Highly recommended! Very attentive and friendly staff. Delicious food and a beautiful atmosphere in the heart of Venice. Prices are perfectly reasonable. See you next time! 👋
Excellent restaurant both for the food and for the friendliness, kindness and hospitality of Elio to recommend 👍👍👍👍
I lived in Venice, and every time I return, a must-visit is Osteria La Lanterna! The excellent quality of the food is matched by friendly and impeccable service. The well-maintained and attentive location is a perfect complement to everything else. I highly recommend it.
Excellent food, fresh fish cooked to perfection. Friendly and helpful staff. Impeccable service. No complaints, we'll be back.
Great local dishes, refined ingredients and very professional staff. One of the best so far in the 30-50€ range. The location is hidden in the pantalon neighborhood and quiet. Reservations are prefered. I highly recommend for a date.
Of all the places around Venice, La Lanterna is hands down the best for the quality of its food, its friendliness, and the skill of its owner!!! Besides the special location, the dishes are equally as special... First, a delicious and colorful fish appetizer, followed by a scenic and fragrant salt-baked sea bass, accompanied by delicious grilled vegetables, served directly from a still-flaming pan! All washed down with a good bottle of white wine in the tranquil setting of Campiello Mosca!!! Excellent value for money. It's impossible not to return!
"Eat Venice" We stumbled upon this little restaurant by chance, and luckily, I might add in hindsight!! A truly enchanting and well-kept place, the owner is incredibly friendly, and the food is absolutely impeccable: delicious fish and expertly prepared dishes!! We stood still for an hour without being overwhelmed by the typical Venetian chaos. My compliments to "Lanterna". HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The best spaghetti vongole in Venice, professional and friendly service. Welcoming indoor and outdoor seating. Thanks Elio. Definitely worth a try!
everything is perfect!I born in a seaside city. I must say that seafood dishes are better than those in my hometown. I totally immersed myself in tasting food. I recommend have food when in sunny days. Aloe is warmhearted!! Pics are what I recommend.
A little corner in the heart of Venice where you can savor the flavors of the lagoon! Exceptional staff, making you feel right at home.
Delicious food and perfect menu! Authentic cuisine in a non-touristy setting. Enjoyed both of my courses and would return next time I'm in Venice!
The seafood and the beef slices are wonderful! Must try the oyster, octopus and beef slices.
You saved our evening! After a mishap at a nearby restaurant. The waiter greeted us with a huge smile and great kindness. The dishes were magnificent, as pleasing to the eye as they were to the palate. The restaurant is a little out of the way, but well worth the detour. We're so glad we walked in. Thank you!
Great fish and staff.
If you'd like to try seafood in venezia, this is the place to be! The dishes were absolutely incredible, bursting with fresh, ocean flavors. We were so impressed with the quality and preparation. Beyond the amazing food, the staff was also fantastic, providing excellent service and even going out of their way to accommodate our baby. A truly wonderful dining experience!
Excellent food and wine. Even though we are only here 2 nights we may come back tomorrow night. Excellent selection and very well done food. Very reasonable prices, had several drinks per person, apps, and main dishes and the tab was right at 200
Very delicious😋The service and environment are great👍The seafood is very fresh and tastes very good...The price is also very good👌 (but there are mosquitoes🦟) Overall it is still very good♥️
Beautiful place, very kind staff, we arrived almost at closing time and still they made us eat very good dishes, well done
Really nice and cosy place awat from the busy streets. The pasta was amazing and the waiter was really nice too.
Delicious pasta, both fish and meat. The baked fish was also exceptional. The tiramisu was delicious. Very friendly service. A highly recommended experience.
Very nice place, good food!
The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was perfect. I dined at around 20:00 on a weekday in the outdoor area. The patio was calm and quiet. The food was very good. Many authentic Venetian dishes for tourists, as well as steak, pasta, and fresh seafood. I loved the baccalà mantecato e polenta.
During a short stroll through the alleys of Venice, we happened upon this restaurant and were tempted by the daily specials. The food was delicious (spaghetti carbonara and scaloppine al limone), the service was exceptionally friendly, and the outdoor seating was nice and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle. We would come back! Update 2025: We were here again, and just like the year before, it was delicious! Still a recommendation!
Everything was perfect, highly recommended, cozy and authentic. Delicious food. Very friendly staff.
The best meal ever!!!!!! Can’t say enough about this night ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Service was very attentive, without pushing you along. Everything we had was great, but the cuddle fish ink pasta was a surprise hit. I went into it thinking that it was ink pasta. However, it was really pasta with ink sauce... And bites of cuddle fish. If you even consider it...get it. You will be happy you did.
Excellent pasta
Absolutely the best most welcoming restaurant me and my husband have been too while visiting Venice. The mixed seafood pasta was to die for. My husband enjoyed the lobster pasta considering he had never tried lobster. Service was amazing and food was outstanding. Will be coming back <3 thank you guys!
A typical Venetian restaurant with good prices and quality. The waiters were friendly and attentive. We tried the black spaghetti and the cod with polenta, truffle ravioli, and cheese fondue. Good value.
Restaurant in Venice after a few weeks. Enchanting location. Excellent meat, very well cooked. Tasty side dish. Truly unique pastry dessert. Professional service. Perfect lighting and decor. Venice 🇮🇹🫶🏻🥰🤗😘❤️
A very beautiful place in the heart of Venice, quiet and well-maintained. Excellent food, exceptional, attentive, and warm staff. I return often and highly recommend it!
Excellent value for the (touristy) location and what's on the plate. And a very friendly server!
Love this place. Sea food is good and no too pricey.
Very delicious food, cozy atmosphere (a bit hot inside), good service! Just a small thing- unpleasant surprise for the Coperto- we haven’t been asked if we want to have it but included in the price. Everything else… great!
Best restaurant we ate at in Venice. Ordered: - entree: Scallops, Mussels - Pasta: Spaghetti with mixed seafood, and Ravioli with Scollops and Scampi - Dessert: Tiramisu, and Panna Cotta. All the dishes were wonderful, and we really enjoyed our time.
I had seafood pasta and squid ink pasta. I went there after receiving a recommendation, but the seafood pasta I had was so expensive that it was hard to eat. When I told the staff, they apologized and gave me tiramisu for free. This is a store with great service and responsibility! Thanks to the friendly staff, I was able to finish with good memories ◡̈
We had a super delicious spaghetti carbonara. Then we had an espresso doppio: strong and well-rounded. A wonderful stay. Thank you very much!
A must visit in Venice. The food was gorgeous and reasonably priced. My partner was delighted with the mixed seafood started. Part way through our main meal we swapped as both were delicious.
Simple, tasty, friendly and fairly priced. Love the seafood mix starter.
The best pasta in Italy. Pistachio pesto pasta is a must order! Service is very welcoming. We also ordered seafood and squidink pasta. You have to dip the bread into the leftover sauce 🤤🤤🤤
Great service, cozy ambience, tasty food. Get the sea bass with the salt crust... delicious!
I really liked it, they serve excellent seafood and a delicious Aperol Spritz🍹
“Excellent dinner” Very well-kept location, The food was excellent, perfect pairings, excellent service, Thank you, My compliments indeed. Google Maps is not good at all. 5 minutes from Piazzale Roma.
Originally we were supposed to go to another place but it was full, we decided to come to La Lanterna and it was an amazing surprise! This place reminded me of my mom’s cooking, ambience is chill, wines are great and staff are so friendly! I highly recommend this restaurant!
exquisite and tasty pasta dishes!
The food was fresh and delicious. I will come back!
Everything was very good, the staff and the place were welcoming 😃
Overall a very quaint and quiet dining experience. Service was very prompt the food quite delicious. We shared the grilled seafood platter and it was a nice change from all of the pasta heavy dishes we had eaten in the past two weeks. Being serenaded by the traditional Italian accordion music was a nice touch!
Just one word...excellent! The food, the wine, the grappa, the waiter...everything just perfect and just a bit better than anywhere else. Definitely coming back 🙂👍
Super delicious meal! A restaurant worth visiting many times
Very tasty food, also a good selection for vegetarians.
very good fish dishes whose preparation is faithful to the best dishes of the Venetian tradition! The interior space is a bit small but very cosy, excellent service, Elio the owner could not be nicer!!!
One of the best restaurants in the historical part of Venice. Highly recommended. Great food, and prices. Everything is fresh and tasty.
My favorite restaurant in Venice! Staff was amazing. Food was even more amazing! I accidentally spilled/broke glass of wine and they were so kind about it and even replaced it for me. We were looking for a romantic sunset gondola ride for after dinner and they walked us to their amazing gondolier friend nearby who was full of information. Highly recommend to my fellow foodies and travelers!
All the food was delicious and they served drinks for free ♪ The chef was also kind, so I recommend it!
One of a few restaurants in the area that has grilled chicken :)
The tiramisu was so creamy and delicious.
Absolutely fantastic. Very fresh and delicious.
Delicious seafood in a quaint little square. Served us very well quickly and complimentary limoncello on the house. Definitely try baccala mantecato!!
It was delicious!! Even women can eat one pasta per person! The pasta is packed with seafood and the noodles are thick, making it rare and definitely worth trying!! It's conveniently located near major stations!!
The food was fantastic. We ordered a variety of dishes and were all good but our favorite was the squid ink spaghetti. Prices were reasonable and not a tourist trap including no pressure to tip.
Small restaurant. Incredible service. Smiling and kind waiters. Clean and tidy. Very cozy. The food is great. You will not regret a pleasant evening. Wide selection of wine, beer and food. Normal prices. They are announced in front of the restaurant. I recommend with both hands.
Everything was delicious! The lasagna was very tasty, and the mussel and clam casserole with tomato sauce was amazing. 1000% recommended. We enjoyed every single dish. Thank you so much! ☺️
Amazing restaurant , sea food was fresh and tasty and risotto super delicious. Also great staff, highly recommend !
A modern place compared to other restaurants in Venice. The dishes are not excessively expensive and are good. It is clearly stated that the food is not necessarily all fresh, which has the advantage of being transparent; we were not disappointed by the gnocchi and lasagna. The desserts were also good, homemade.
Ravioles and lasagna were delicious, also all desserts are great!
Delicious Italian food. The lasagna is very delicate and delicious.
I can't eat seafood so I ordered lasagna and it was so delicious and the panna cotta was also delicious! The staff was also very kind! I don't usually write reviews but the panna cotta was so delicious that I had to write one. . . There are no mangiare frutti di mare, but my usual lasagna was delicious and delicious! And the panna cotta was so delicious! Let me tell you, the person I am talking to is so gentle! I didn't write my review quickly, but the panna cotta was so delicious that I couldn't…
It was simply fantastic, friendly service, very good food, the price is justified!
Top welcome in Venice, the owner is very nice, you eat very well and drink in company, you can come for dinner even alone the staff will make you feel at home! Excellent experience
One of the best meals I’ve had in Venice. The restaurant is far from the busy tourist traps.
Special food and a super host. Kindness and helpfulness of the staff.
The grilled fish mix and grilled vegetables are excellent.
Excellent and plentiful dishes. Excellent hospitality.
good place to crab some nice food. as soon as u see gondoliery and local workers come in, u know the place must be good. and it is .
Osteria La Lanterna is an intimate and tastefully decorated restaurant. It has one of the largest outdoor seating areas in the area, and more importantly, no other outdoor seating nearby. During the warmer months, its tables are ready and set in Campiello Mosca, a typical Venetian square with a fountain. The location is beautiful and fortunately off the beaten path. I tried a very fresh and delicious turbot baked in the oven, served with yellow tomatoes and olives. Elio, the owner, recommended a bottle of excellent Lugana, and I must say that, while I enjoyed everything else, the wine made an even bigger difference. In my opinion, it's highly recommended!
Impromptu day in Venice, found this restaurant by chance. Very good food, top service, fair price. I will return.
The Gas Lantern - A Venetian Gem The Gas Lantern is simply exceptional. If you're looking to enjoy authentic Venetian cuisine in a place frequented by locals who value quality and a cozy atmosphere, this is the perfect spot. The food quality is outstanding, and I can't recommend the cheek and polenta enough – it's a standout dish with impeccable flavor and preparation. We were also lucky to be served directly by Elio, the owner of the restaurant, who not only recommended the best wines to pair with each dish but also surprised us with a discount at the end of the meal. This, combined with the amazing value for money, made the experience even more special. Definitely a must-visit place if you're in Venice. We'll surely be back! In Italian: The Gas Lantern - A Venetian gem The Gas Lantern is simply exceptional. A top dinner for my wife's birthday. For our first evening in Venice we couldn't have had a better time. On Yasmine's advice, the dishes and the wine all went perfectly together. A culinary discovery, without breaking the bank for the quality. Yasmine's kindness, a quality chef and the free limoncello... well done. We will definitely return if we come back to Venice... and yes we will come back 🇮🇹 🥰
I'm truly speechless. They speak English well and are incredibly kind. The food is truly amazing. There's nothing more I can say. Food is perfect. Service is perfect. Wine is more than perfect.
Nice seafood meal with a reasonable price. Not as crowded as the other restaurants and you could get a table easily even you do not have reservation.
Small restaurant with a terrace located in a small square away from the crowds. The dishes are well prepared with delicious fresh products. The service is warm and attentive. Delicious melon liqueur offered at the end of the meal. A good place to remember!!
Everything was delicious, I highly recommend the veal cheek, delicious. With Elio, you'll feel right at home; let him guide you, you won't go wrong.
Quiet and intimate terrace. Great sea food, ask for the venice style prawns, they are not in the menu, but are the best.
We had a lovely evening at La Lanterna Da Gas. We hadn't booked ahead as we only came across it while exploring the area but would recommend you do to secure a table, especially in the outdoor seating area. Luckily there was a table for 2 indoors which is tastefully decorated with dried flowers and softly lit table lamps. The ambiance is cosy and warm with the buzzy sounds of chatter from open kitchen and other diners. The friendly staff made us feel very welcome and relaxed here. The food was fantastic, we had capesanta gratinate (scallops au gratin), a mixed salad, spaghetti nero di seppia (cuttlefish ink spaghetti), spaghetti alla carbonara and finished with tiramisu as our dessert. I probably could have eaten another plate of spaghetti but then I'd have to roll myself back home :) We would definitely recommend a visit!
The restaurant is located in a lovely court and not too crowded which creates a peaceful atmosphere for a lunch/dinner. Their special spaghetti “La lanterna” was full of flavour and cook to perfection!
We had lunch outside, where you'll find a very quiet field free of annoying birds. The service was very good, and the dishes were tasty and well-prepared. The mixed seafood appetizer was delicious, and I also recommend the spaghetti alla Lanterna. Well done, congratulations. Recommended to everyone!
Really a good place with great service.
Nice place, off the beaten track. Good food, attentive staff. A pleasant surprise, with real italian food.
We find this restaurant by accident, but we was happy that we ate there. It is a nice one in a side way of venezia. The service is good and the location quite nice.
I highly recommend it instead of going to touristy trattorias. A welcoming, informal restaurant for everyone. Very good food, excellent quality for Venetian prices. Great wine selection. Modern venue, but plenty of seating in a small space. Excellent service, very courteous and helpful.
Nice, quieter spot for lunch in the otherwise overwhelmingly touristy city. We had the seafood pasta and the lobster pasta - really delicious. Would also be a nice spot for a cold beer, given that they have loads of outdoor seating
Great food in a quiet corner of town
It's a small, elegant restaurant. We walked in without a reservation. About half the seats were taken. I ordered the vongole pasta and squid ink. Both were delicious. The squid ink was even better than I expected. I highly recommend it. For some reason, my mouth didn't turn black either. Two pastas and a bottle of sparkling water came to 40 euros. I think that's quite reasonable. It's a laid-back, comfortable restaurant.
visited this restaurant back in October 2024 and was absolutely blown away by the food — it was incredible! I ended up eating two full portions by myself because everything was so delicious. This time, I was excited to bring my family here to share the experience, but unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The squid ink pasta and seafood soup tasted completely different from last time — it seems like there may have been a change in the chef. You can see the comparison in the photos: images 4 and 5 are from my previous visit, while images 1, 2, and 3 are from this visit. The seafood flavor was overpowered by canned tomato, and the squid ink pasta lacked sauce and was quite dry. I really hope the restaurant can return to the standard and taste it once had. It was truly memorable before — I’d love to experience that again.
Tasty enough with all the staple Venetian dishes to satisfy visitors. We ordered the squid ink spaghetti, veal liver, and creamed stock fish. The veal and creamed fish had somewhat strong flavours although it’s expectable. The spaghetti was good, but not outstanding. The staff that seated us was very kind, but we found it hard to get a waiter to take our order.
Excellent tavern in a slightly secluded location. The interior of the tavern is a bit narrow (like all the places in Venice) but it also has reserved seats in the square in front so there is no capacity problem even if it is advisable to book. The dishes are good, well balanced in flavor and made with fresh ingredients, as well as balanced portions. The staff is made up of Eastern European boys among whom the sympathy of the Albanian boy stands out, now "adopted" Venetian for more than twenty years, whose name I don't remember. The place is clean, well kept but certainly not cheap but with prices in line with all similar offers in Venice. Recommended.
Restaurant located outside the tourist crowds. Terrace in a very nice square. The food is tasty. I ordered the black spaghetti with cuttlefish and it was very good. I didn't like the tiramisu that much. Correct price for being Venice. I would recommend the restaurant for the terrace, the food and the price, but I wouldn't consider it a must-see place.
Just wandering around the streets away from our accommodation and found this restaurant. Lovely little square with some children playing. Food was nicely cooked. Chicken wasn't dry. Friendly helpful staff.
We tried excellent scallops, good Venetian-style liver and good pasta with duck ragu. Panna cotta was excellent. In the end, the waiter was angry because we didn't want water, and when he asked if I was waiting for the rest, I answered yes. The coperto is charged like this and I don't see any reason to leave a tip. What's next? Shall we bring our own table?
The food wasn’t bad, but it was pretty average… Which was disappointing as it is a little more expensive compared to other places close by. The portion sizes are good though!
We ate here on a week-day night and came around 9 p.m., probably too late for the cooks to be in top condition. This eatery is located in a nice and quiet area of town. Indoor as well as outdoor dining is offered and the menu presents classical Venezian dishes, unfortunately not cooked up to the standards we had expected. I ordered a Fegato cooked the way I like it but received a severely overcooked liver stew, falling apart when piercing it with my fork. It was too late to send it back to the kitchen. The service was excellent and I think our waiter suspected that we were not really satisfied and offered us a limoncello...
good fresh seafood at this outdoor patio restaurant. however, the service stood out with our friendly server!
Found this restaurant on google and decided to go there due to the reviews, but I was disappointed with my meal. The lasagna was very bland annd there was barely any meat. I ordered take black ink pasta as take away, and when I got home, I realized I was just given fish and no pasta.
I felt the place is bit expensive, one Oyster cost 5€!!!! I ordered Cappellacci Ripieni di Capasanti e gamberi ( Scallop and Shrimp ravioli), the taste was good however I was not satisfied with the quantity to be honest. The servers are very nice and friendly; if you don’t speak Italian it might be an issue in communication; and at the end they give you shot with is so good. And one interesting things is that I asked for butter and in the end I was charged 3.50€. So if you want butter then you have to pay for it 😄
Tuna carpaccio was disappointing. It was cold and icy. The risotto in the seafood risotto was undercooked, but had great flavor.
Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The €6 salad was just a handful of lettuce leaves, some of which were wilted. The €22 lamb was completely overcooked and the fries were reheated. The lasagna tasted okay, but it had been reheated in the microwave, making it extremely hot inside and colder and dry outside. Our neighbors didn't like it either. We complained and didn't have to pay for the lamb and salad, which was generous. We went because of the many good reviews, but unfortunately, the quality was really poor. Addendum 01/24: The restaurant initially deleted my review for being inaccurate, but Google then reversed it. The restaurant also hid my photos of the food that I had uploaded.
With a rating like that, you wouldn't expect to find yourself served dishes that were incredibly bland and so salty they were practically inedible. A real disappointment.
The worst lasagna I’ve ever had in my life, which hurts more because it was in Italy. There was no bolognese sauce at all, it was jelly part, which doesn’t even contest meat. Also, my friend ordered pesto pasta with burrata cheese, pesto pasta was watery and burrata was 3 small balls of mozeralla, which costed 16 euros!! Unbelievable..
