It’s a small place but they have some good food. My friend gave me a half bean and cheese burrito and I thought it was so good. Simple but yet so good. I will need to try some other things from their menu but it seems like they have good food here.
Traditional crispy tacos and taco sauce. Loved the cold lettuce on top of the hot meat between the cheese. Each bite has different textures and temperature for a truly delicious bite. Prepared to order so it can take some time. Crushed the 6 pack for $11.25 with so much of the red taco sauce
Found this place on tik tok and came specifically for their crispy beef tacos. I have to tell you they did not disappoint $2.75 ea. Small but packed with shredded meat lettuce and cheese. Delicious 😋 p.s. parking is limited in the street. There is no restaurant parking
Pretty dang good burritos and tacos. Though the tacos are a bit small. Parking sucks.
Johnny’s Mexican Food - Ventura: A Chip Off the Old Block (And It’s Pure Gold) Let me start with the real MVP here: Johnny’s chips. I’ve traveled the seven seas (okay, maybe just the 101 freeway), tasted chips from here to Timbuktu (alright, fine, just around SoCal), and I can say with complete confidence that these chips are some of the best I’ve ever had. They’re so good, I’m pretty sure they could solve world peace if we just got everyone to sit around a basket and crunch together in harmony. But Johnny’s isn’t a one-trick pony riding on chip fame alone. The food here hits harder than my dad’s jokes at Thanksgiving dinner – and somehow manages to be way more satisfying. Every bite is like a warm hug from your Mexican abuela, even if your actual abuela is a sweet Polish lady named Gertrude who makes pierogies. The staff treats you like family (the good kind of family – not the kind that asks when you’re getting married every five minutes). The portions are generous enough to feed a small village, or one very determined college student during finals week. And the prices? So reasonable, you’ll check your receipt twice thinking they forgot to charge you for something. Fair warning: once you experience Johnny’s, other Mexican food will just taste like sadness wrapped in a sad tortilla. You’ve been warned. Come for the chips, stay for everything else, leave planning your next visit before you’ve even made it to your car.
Little hole in the wall with delicious Mexican food! Available to go or sit down at a picnic table outside or a booth inside. Burritos, tacos, or corn Burritos 🌯--it's 100% not fancy, but 100% yummy!
It’s been 30 yrs since I have eaten at Johnny’s and they still are rocking great shredded beef burritos. I got mine with rice bean and cheese. Excellent customer service
I've been coming here since Johnny & his family ran the place in the 1970s. The new owner uses the same recipes and the food is just as good as it was then. If I'm anywhere in Ventura County, I'm trying to get to Johnny's!
I have only had the "Small" burritos and the Horchata. The nice thing about the Horchata is that ice doesn't dilute it right away, so you may have the impression that it's too sweet at first. But I like that more than too watery! In Ventura it's the best Mexican food and is very very close to my favorite place in L.A., El Sauz. The others I have tried so far are good enough, but not exceptional, Two on the Avenue and one on Thompson east of California. I will keep going back to sample the other selections. And report. I'm pretty hungry today so I'm going to order the "El Patron" burrito. it's the closest thing to what I usually get in Glendale. and that's a hard act to follow We have carne asada, whole beans, rice, sour cream, cheese, lettuce and tomato. We so let you know I'll even take a picture

Amazing crispy beef tacos!! One of the best I’ve had in this area
You want great Corn Burritos Johnny where you go away Delicious and great and sauce good and owner care about his customers. Awesome Job Johnny
My wife and I shared a burrito and it was honestly one of the tastiest burritos I’ve ever had and it was big enough to share and we both felt full afterwards. I thought it was a little pricey but what isn’t these days.

Casual restaurant with primarily take out but does have some outdoor and indoor seating. Excellent food.
A pleasant, nostalgic slice of Americana. The hard shell shredded beef taco brings that old-school SoCal vibe to the plate. You get a crunchy fried shell, a generous hit cheese, and a layer of crisp iceberg lettuce. The braised beef is a little dry, not offensive but not exactly juicy either. The salsa leans heavy on the black pepper and is absolutely necessary to bring everything up to par. This isn’t a taco that’s going to haunt your dreams, but it’s better than anything you’ll find at Del Taco. If you’re in the mood for what Mexican food might have felt like in the 1950s, this will scratch the itch. It’s a solidly decent experience.
UPDATE Returned today and tried a shredded beef California burrito and a chile relleno/pork burrito. The California was really special and I’d return for it any day. The hot crispy French fries melded just right with the beef and cheese. The other burrito was solid but the pork was quite bland. Customer service was interesting. The young woman at the window seemed like she’d rather be doing something else on a beautiful Saturday morning. ____________________________________ $10 for a slender Johnny’s original burrito (shredded beef in chile colorado red sauce with cheese) made me gasp a bit as they were perhaps half that price the last time I ate here 25 yrs ago. The flavors are pretty good, but frankly I grew bored with the flavor and texture after 3 or four bites, even with the addition of their decent salsa. I think beans and rice would round out the extreme meatiness of the soft, shredded beef. Next time I’ll try the crunchy tacos that other reviewers recommend. After I got my food I noticed the line was maybe ten deep at around 12:00.

I have been coming here since 1974. Live the food. Just recently noticed that the portion sizes have decreased significantly. Very disappointed since prices have increased. Something for management to consider.
I have been going here since the 1980s. The hard shell taco is classic here. I love this place for a delicious yummy burrito. There is an indoor dining area but to go is a better option. One funny thing is for whatever reason they are pretty stingy on napkins and salsa. It’s a small thing, but kinda irritating and this is every time I go here.

Ordered corn burritos today. 1/2 order $8. Normal until I was charged for sauce. Hardly any cheese. Won't be back for those!
First time to visit this place and there was no line. So I stopped by and ordered Carne Asada tacos. I would say not bad at all. I guess I'm just picky from the way the meat has been prepped. Most people here ordered for to go but they have indoor dining if you prefer.

I've been coming here pretty much my whole life. The burritos have gotten smaller and the price has gotten larger. It's just doesn't taste as good as it used to but it's still delicious

We decided to try Johnny’s Fine Mexican Food in Ventura after seeing a viral TikTok hyping up their beef tacos. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to the expectations. We ordered 4 beef tacos, a chile relleno plate, and a side of fries. The tacos looked promising, but the beef lacked flavor and was overly greasy. The fries had an unpleasant taste, like they were cooked in old oil. The chile relleno was also underwhelming — bland and not well-prepared. Considering the quality, the food felt overpriced. Honestly, I’m not sure how this place has over 4 stars. Maybe we caught them on a bad day, but we definitely won’t be returning.
