We booked a night spontaneously and were thrilled. The accommodation is beautiful, very well-maintained, and the rooms are furnished with great attention to detail. The hostess was incredibly warm and accommodating, and immediately made us feel welcome. We would definitely love to come back!
The rating refers to the restaurant. A well-established excellence. There are tasting menus, but we chose the à la carte menu. An appetizer featuring shrimp in filo pastry paired with fried calamari and sautéed risotto. Tasty, balanced...very much appreciated. I continued with gnocchi, and my wife with a grilled sea bass fillet. Everything was delicious. We finished with an incredible apple dessert that took 20 minutes to prepare. It was definitely worth the wait. The price was reasonable for the quality. Easy parking. Dog friendly. Amex welcome.
Ferragosto 2025. Thank you. Excellent menu (all seafood), including the wine list. Excellent service, with excellent knowledge, professionalism, and kindness. We'll be back soon.
🌟 If someone had told me in the morning that I would end the day in a fairytale — I wouldn’t have believed it. After 10 hours on the road, I arrived in a small Italian town, booked a hotel, and drove through narrow streets to find it. Eventually, I reached the Castagni complex — and that’s when the magic began. I was warmly welcomed by the incredibly kind and friendly hostess. She showed me my room (absolutely beautiful!), walked me through the garden, showed the pool, the restaurant… We agreed I’d come for dinner in the evening. And then — the evening came. I walked into the restaurant… And I couldn’t believe what I saw: the waitress didn’t just explain the menu — she sang it. And the hostess introduced each course like a scene from a culinary theatre. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavor and imagination. I don’t know who the chef is — but he’s a genius. Every bite was stunning. Each wine matched the dish in perfect harmony. You can feel the soul they’ve put into everything. You’re not just eating. You’re experiencing. You’re awakening. Even if you’re alone — here, you never feel lonely. This place feels tuned to inner peace. You feel like someone is holding your hand, whispering: “You’re home.” And then came dessert. And then — a collection of Armagnac, starting from 1945… I chose the 1947. 45 euros — that’s not a price. That’s the taste of time. The energy of post-war Europe, captured in a crystal glass. It doesn’t burn — it unfolds. It speaks to you. And suddenly, you understand something deeper about yourself and life. 💫 If you’re ever nearby — don’t miss it. One evening here can truly change you. The money? Not an expense. It’s an investment in a moment you’ll carry with you forever. And if someone asks: — How much does peace of mind cost? You’ll know: — I found it in Castagni. And I’ll be back.
I don't understand why Google only allows me to review the rooms, but never mind... 5 stars are and will remain. TOP. Christmas lunch with two friends, quite high expectations, all of which were met. Stellar wine list, flawless service, dishes... judge for yourself from the videos and photos! I'm rarely so succinct in my reviews, but I certainly won't be the one to discover a historic restaurant of this caliber!
In the Vigevano countryside, a rustic farmhouse with a porch welcomed you into a delightful environment, among antique furniture and beautiful paintings on the walls. I was won over by Enrico Gerli's cuisine; I opted for the fish-based preparations, in particular: Black raviolini filled with fish cheeks, white cuttlefish and mussel sauce, saffron seafood water: wonderful!
I enjoyed an excellent, Michelin-starred lunch in a refined setting. The dishes were all excellent, as were the drinks. The price was higher than expected, but in line with the category. Excellent service.
We only used the restaurant, so I can't rate the rooms. This lunch was my birthday present, and I was truly satisfied: beautiful location, excellent, beautifully presented food. We'll definitely be back to try the tasting menu when the menu changes next time, or we'll try the à la carte menu.
I only used the restaurant. Very pleasant and refined interior. Good menu variety. Highly professional cuisine. Excellent wine list. Prices appropriate for the restaurant's caliber.
I had the pleasure of dining at Ristorante I Castagni in Vigevano, and while no dish had a "wow" factor, everything was well-prepared, with quality ingredients and meticulous presentation. What really struck me was the hospitality. Even though we were the only customers that day, the restaurant decided to open exclusively for us, a gesture that demonstrates great care and respect for their guests. Having a restaurant in Milan myself (Sato Sushi Experience), I know what a choice like this means, and for this reason, the top rating is more than deserved. During lunch, we were served directly by the owner, a person of rare kindness who made us feel truly welcomed and at ease. The atmosphere is refined and relaxing, ideal for an intimate and special dining experience. I recommend trying I Castagni at least once, to experience a lunch or dinner where the hospitality exceeds all expectations.
Christmas Eve ...my birthday, first time. Upon our arrival, a warm welcome, from the owner, smiling, elegant, and friendly. We sat down at a table, the place was elegantly decorated...excellent dishes, everything delicious. ...despite the cold weather outside, for the first time, never before, I dined in short sleeves. Another plus for this place. I'll be back!!! I recommend it.
Excellent food, à la carte or tasting menu (we chose the latter. The portions are adequate and the selection is comprehensive. Pairs well with the extensive wine list.) Beautiful and well-maintained location. The Michelin-starred restaurant's expertise is evident. Highly recommended. Since I didn't book a room, I can't comment.
I went for a meal a few months ago. I won't dwell on the excellent food and the preparations, which demonstrate serious research, but I wanted to highlight three aspects that are often the result of preconceptions when it comes to Michelin-starred restaurants. - Hospitality and service: having been to several places that pretended to be Michelin-starred, where the needlessly excessive formality only served to intimidate the diner, here they manage to maintain a family atmosphere while still providing all the trappings of fast, courteous, and efficient service. I really appreciated it. - Wines: The wine list is a veritable book, and you can find everything; but for those like me who aren't a sommelier, there's a good selection of wines at decidedly affordable prices; since I was the only one at the table eating meat, I ordered a half bottle of red and found it excellent. - Quantity: It's not nouvelle cuisine... the portions aren't enormous, but they're adequate. I had an appetizer and a main course, and although I wanted to try dessert, I couldn't because I was bursting. All things considered, I ate wonderfully, tried unique and elaborate dishes you won't find anywhere else, drank well, and left the restaurant rolling. Cost of all: 90 euros, well worth every penny. A truly excellent experience.
I had the most wonderful experience at I Castagni with friends and family for a birthday celebration. Luisa is the most gracious host and makes you feel at home, and she was beyond kind to allow our table to stay past midnight for us to celebrate the true birthday in the comfort of the dining room. And the food - the shrimp and calamari antipasti & the squid ink ravioli - was unlike anything I've tasted. Truly delicate, flavorful, and thoughtful. One of one in my books for both service and dishes.
We went to celebrate a birthday. On a Thursday evening, we were the only guests dining. We got the best table looking into the private garden. Service was very attentive. We ordered the "Menu degustazione", we loved the beef Carpaccio, the risotto, and the Burgundy Premier Cru which paired quite well with all the food coming.
I have been three times, in the last 6/7 years, to this restaurant of my native town, and I really appreciate its refined, but never pretentious, cuisine. I chose a menu "all fish" this time, made of five courses, and everthing was excellent: I especially liked the delicious appetizer "fried shrimps and squids". The previous times I had chosen some typical menus of the Lomellina zone, composed mainly of goose or pork meat, with the same good results in taste; besides, consider that the quantity of food in the plate is enough for the reasonably glutton customer. Good job as always, Enrico!
Our goal was to frequent as many 1 star restaurants as we could. The chef's wife is so charming, the restaurant and setting delightful and every plate is worthy of that star. They have earned a sta…
This is our second time back: a Michelin-starred experience with rounded flavors, impeccable service, and a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. I think the tasting menu is suitable for everyone, with authentic flavors that pay homage to tradition. I really appreciated the exploration of seasonal themes! Unfortunately, the first time I had a less than pleasant experience with dessert, but there's a reason I've been back! The apple millefeuille is mouth-watering! Service is at times confusing and a bit slow.
I paid €200 for a wine tasting dinner for my partner's birthday. The wine remained the same until the last course, and you call that a tasting? Furthermore, the food was completely bland; I used to make pasta with clams at home for better flavor. Each dish tasted completely bland, with no complexity whatsoever. Complexity of flavors is exactly what you look for in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The only decent dish was the tortellini with roast beef, which would have been fine at a non-starred restaurant. I definitely won't be returning, and I don't recommend it.
