This place was unbelievable! Walking in there was live music but not so loud you couldn’t hear, with a beautiful decor and soft lighting. I immediately adored this place just for that atmosphere. Our waitress was beyond wonderful, accommodating, pleasant, caring and on top of her stuff! We had empanadas for an appetizer and they were delicious! We also shared the butternut squash soup that they bring a wonderful bread with. I wasn’t crazy about the soup only because of a spice they use in it that upsets my belly but the bread was so good. My husband ate the soup and enjoyed it. My husband got the lobster ravioli and he was so impressed and as you can see by the pictures he devoured it. I had the roasted chicken with carrots, these carrots were spiced and so flavorful my chicken was roasted tender and flavorfully. We had to try dessert which also dodjt disappoint!

Shelter Woodstock is, without a doubt, my new favorite spot in the area. The food here is next-level — every dish feels like it was made with real passion. The empanadas are out of this world: perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with flavor on the inside. Easily the best I’ve had in the entire Hudson Valley. The steak sandwich is unreal — juicy, tender, and full of flavor, the kind of sandwich you keep thinking about long after you leave. And the short ribs… wow. Fall-off-the-bone tender, rich, and cooked to absolute perfection. On top of the incredible food, the place has an amazing vibe and warm, friendly service. Shelter Woodstock is one of those rare gems you instantly want to recommend to all your friends. If you’re anywhere near Woodstock, do yourself a favor and stop by. Stopped by after going to Overlook Mountain and I have no regrets! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The place felt super homey with the dim lights and warm atmosphere. It definitely felt like a home away from home. We got a lot for a decent price. I would try the Mac and cheese and the empanadas because it’s rare to find a place that makes it the way they did. The burger was great as well as the skirt steak! The Hudson valley peach cider was also 10/10, a perfect side for the burger if you want something sweet on the side. We also got the flan and I’m not someone that really likes it but theirs was wowza. They serve it with some Carmel and blueberries and I think that’s what made it memorable and extra tasty! Enjoy ☺️

This place is so fantastic I have a hard time resisting it any time I'm in Woodstock. The staff -- from hostess to bartenders, servers, and the cook working the wood-fired oven -- is friendly, quick, professional and informative; also, charming. Cocktails are delicious and unique. The food has been good, sometimes great (over 10 visits). The atmosphere can't be beat -- but if you want to sit by the fire in wintertime you'd best make a reservation! My partner and I went to The Shelter for our anniversary dinner and it was amazing! We decided to sit outside which offered a lovely, quiet, intimate setting as opposed to the inside which was still gorgeous but definitely much more lively. The two of us shared an order of empanadas (the ham and cheese one tasted like the most delicious homemade pot pie) and a juicy ribeye steak. Atop that ordered drinks - the most notable of which was the espresso martini. Hands down the best we've ever had! The entire staff was very friendly and sociable - especially the owner, who offered us the recipe to the martini we loved so much! Overall it is an amazing restaurant with fantastic, personable staff, great food, and beautiful atmosphere. We're super thankful that we picked The Shelter to have our anniversary dinner at.

Everything was superb!!! The half roasted chicken moist and well prepared in the wood fired oven and the steak, which we ordered to be medium rare, perfectly cooked. We were not disappointed, from the burger and braised short ribs to coffee at the end of the meal, everything was perfect! The staff is attentive and work well with one another. Beautiful place!

The brick oven fare was truly delicious. The bread and pizza were fresh and obviously made with the best quality flour and olive oil. The stuffed eggplant had a memorable smoky flavor and a texture that melted in your mouth. The vegan ice cream was an absolutely unique and not too sweet cashew concoction. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. Our servers and bartender worked together to create a very lively and cozy dining experience. The service was so prompt, the food came almost as a surprise and the service was comparable to a 5 star restaurant.

Standout dishes were the filet mignon special with celery root puree, the heirloom tomato side dish, the roasted Caesar gratin, and the local rainbow trout. I also really loved their white wine sangria which was crisp, sweet, and fresh. If you’re looking to dine right in the heart of Woodstock on Tinker Street, stop by Shelter. Bonus: they have a small parking lot!

This is such a beautiful place which has both indoor and outdoor dining. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We ordered a salad and enjoyed the Prosciutto and Buratta pizza both which were delicious. Everything was fresh and We look forward to returning to try some of the other wonderful selections.

We showed up around 2:30 on Father's Day and managed to get two tables outside put together for our group of 9. We hadn't planned in advance where we would eat after our midday hike, but luckily hit the not so busy time between lunch and dinner. Our servers were wonderful and the food was great! I was glad because I was the one who recommended it since I've been once before for lunch. Our desserts were delicious too. The weather was perfect for sitting outside and it's so pretty with the little old tree in the middle.

Empanadas are the highest, but the menu has more, steake, fish. The cocktails are top notch.

I really enjoyed the smash burger, and the Margherita pizza was excellent. The short rib was definitely a standout for me. Unfortunately, the sweet corn and spinach empanadas were disappointing. The service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Ok- what a find and worth the drive to Woodstock if you are in the Hunter or Wyndham ski area! As a NYC-based foodie, I was NOT surprised to learn this restaurant has original roots in Williamsburg. When the name of the restaurant defines exactly what it is! Shelter is a worthwhile stop along the way. It all starts outside feeling the beautiful wood-burning aroma coming out of the wood-fired oven. A perfect place to feel at home, celebrate a dinner with friends and family or make a stop along the road and feel that every time you travel that road, you are going to stop again there. A house!! Everything was extraordinary and the respect for the ingredients and flavors was present in our dinner. I was surprised by the quality of the meat and the perfectly cooked vegetables accompanied by their great selection of wines, perfect lighting atmosphere and a beautiful selection of music. Woodstock needed a place like this!! Their owners are present in the service and that makes a great difference. All successes and I will return for sure.

There was a half chicken, a margarita pizza, a skirt steak, were all yummy. Our kids loved the Nutella pizza for dessert.

Ok- what a find and worth the drive to Woodstock if you are in the Hunter or Wyndham ski area! As a NYC-based foodie, I was NOT surprised to learn this restaurant has original roots in Williamsburg. Fresh ingredients, amazing woodfired pizza, excellent shakshukka and incredible cocktails. Need to come back for dinner for short rib, mac n cheese and empanadas. Service quality super high, Thanks Josh! What a surprise and will be back anytime we are in the area.

The ambience and service was great. The seating is really cozy with a fireplace. The menu is good but could be better. We ordered the burger and Margherita pizza, both were okay. The fries and empanadas were really good and they have a great selection of drinks as well!

visiting for the first time tonight and overall we were pleased. we were a walk-in and even though the restaurant was half empty they couldn't seat us at a table and so we opted to sit at the bar, which was good as we enjoyed company and conversation. we split the beet & endive to start, then the fish and a chicken special. the salad and sides (celeryroot and asparagus) were excellent, but the entrees were both overcooked and a little dry - perhaps we should have ordered steak. the food menu is tiny with not much choice - but the cocktail menu is extensive. portions were a good size and we didn't leave hungry. 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 drinks (beer $7ea) were just over $125 including tax and tip - expect to pay more if you explore the cocktail menu. overall a good addition to the Woodstock food scene. we'll be back - to try the steak, or perhaps to do appetizers tapas-style. thanks!

Really warm, cozy, convivial atmosphere. Cocktails and food were unexceptional but still a really good option for nice night out!

Food was great. Service was astonishingly inept. Very nice but couldn’t remember our order, didn’t course out the food, and never asked if we wanted a second drink. They finally asked when we were down to about two bites of our entree but we said “sure” anyway, and ordered a beer. 20’ later no beer, so I gave up and went to the bar to ask for the check…apparently our server had left. The extra beer we didn’t get was on the bill…sigh. Must have been a bad day for them! The food was great though!

Walked up unsure as there are plenty of offerings in the area. Stepped in the door and immediately knew we were in the right place. Cozy atmosphere and friendly attentive service. Menu offered options that suited our party of five perfectly. Looking forward to visiting again.

We spent the weekend in Woodstock for my birthday and had dinner here. The pizza we ordered was absolutely delicious. It was a four cheese Bianca. We loved it so much we returned before heading back home to have it again for lunch. The staff and the owners were welcoming and flexible. On our Saturday night it was busy and our waitress appeared to forget about us, delaying bringing over our wine and also not putting in our appetizer order. She was not very apologetic. Regardless we will return for the delicious pizza.

Absolutely lovely experience. The cocktails and food did not disappoint. Our server was perfect, literally and figuratively perfect. Thoughtful touches, fires burning... can't wait to go back.

Very good food. The empanadas are absolutely amazing. It goes for more of a rustic feel, like cooking pizza in a pizza oven, fireplace kind of feel. The service is good but when it gets crowded it could be a little better. The smash burger is also amazing.

Beautiful Space. Drinks were good. The food was okay, nothing particularly special. I had the burger, which was pretty basic. My boyfriend enjoyed his pizza. For the price I'd expect more. When we went, they were having trouble with their AC, so it was very hot & being seated in the corner didn't help. Certainly affected our experience. As a local, I'm sure I'll be back at some point, but I'm not rushing there.

Surprised by the good reviews as the food was very subpar. The crispy potatoes were completely under seasoned and the cobb salad was just okay. Would not return. Sitting outside was nice and the inside is cute though.

Weird menu. Not for kids or if you were actually hungry. Food was good but a strange combination. They were out of beef empanadas. Stingy ,for some reason, with tap water. We had to ask for refills. Had to ask for a plate and cutlery. Food brought out very staggered. Staff was nice but it was a very incohesive experience.

The pizza was also bland. The butternut squash soup was apparently good but thank god because how are you supposed to mess up a soup. The fries were great though, nice and crunchy. I don’t drink, so maybe the drinks are incredible, I wouldn’t know. The staff was nice

Went for dinner tonight, and was pleasantly surprised at how cute it was inside. Unfortunately my entree was really bad. Ordered the ribs, and they were genuinely the worst ribs I’ve ever had- texture was mush, tons of cartilage, and no flavor. Our cocktails were good, special was good and the burger was decent. Staff was super friendly, but seemed disorganized

I really wanted to like this place as there aren’t that many food options in the area that are open everyday of the week. The service was acceptable but the food lacked flavor. The Caesar salad wedge was served grilled with the smallest drizzle of dressing, so you’re basically eating warm wilted romaine lettuce for $17. The pizzas were also incredibly bland almost stale tasting and the sauce was watery. Just our opinion but considering we went here because they do have 4.6 stars I felt it was necessary to offer another view point.

My husband and I went to Shelter tonight and it was not a good experience. We waited forever to have our order taken and even longer for the food. Many of the neighboring tables had the same subpar experience and left in frustration. The restaurant was barely at 50% capacity. You know it’s bad when the tables started making faces at each other. Our waitress blamed it on the printer, which made no sense. When the food finally came, it was mediocre. Service was abysmal. We will not be returning. Let’s hope the next restaurant that replaces it is better, which shouldn’t be hard to accomplish.

We ordered a smash burger and a brisket burger. If I closed my eyes and didn't know where I was, I would have guessed I was eating a McDonald's hamburger. It was wafer thin and very greasy. The "brisket" burger was just a burger and tasted similar to the smash burger. Our servers were friendly and attentive, but getting a pitcher of water on the table was difficult. The dining area was nice, but the other customers were very loud. Our table was next to the pizza oven on a 90+ degree day, so we were sweating the entire time. When we asked to have the a/c above us turned on, we were told it wasn't working yet because it was just installed. I would not recommend eating here, especially after paying over $50 for two burgers with a handful of fries and one beer.

We went for a dear friend's birthday dinner at 7:45 PM on a Saturday... we felt rushed from the moment we walked in. We were asked to close out our bill before we even received our entrée because our server was "being sent home early." This didnt seem to be his choice. Bizarre experience, over priced food. Best bit was the Marinade offered with the B tier steak.

The food was super bland. My husband got the burger and I got a pizza. Almost no flavor in either. The pizza oven they have is gorgeous so I was hopeful but there are so many better pizza places in the area. The service was fine and the outdoor seating was nice. But the food was dramatically overpriced for the quality. My mother in law got a 9$ "local greens" which was 10 pieces of lettuce with oil and pepper. Ridiculous. Save your money for a restaurant with quality taste and portions.

The atmosphere was warm, however the food was cold. We didn't get a check-back for a long time after the food was served, so wasn't able to tell the server in a reasonable amount of time. Basically, we ate cold lasagna and dry chicken for an overpriced dinner.

Terrible experience. We were the first few diners in the restaurant, entrees took nearly 45 minutes to come out. Burger patty was cold and dry. Waiter had an odd, inhospitable energy. Staff was uncoordinated, three different people came to ask if my friend wanted another beer within 5 minutes of each other. Pushy bus boy kept trying to take my plate multiple times while I'm still eating - finally just let him take it to get him off my back. This is a glorified fast casual burger/pizza joint masquerading as a nice restaurant via decor and location. Don't waste your money, there are plenty of better restaurants in Woodstock for less.
