Excellent food and service. Great prices. Portions are large
Driving from Austin to Ft Worth and thought we wanted to have Mexican food for dinner. Googled what was around and spotted this place. First off, the chips and salsa were very good. Chips were light and airy, but crisp. Not the light chips that break when you get some salsa on it. Chicken enchiladas were the special tonight, so we both said, dang it, we don’t eat flour tortillas. Waiter said they can make them with corn tortillas! That was all it took, yes please, let’s get two! The tortillas were really good as an enchilada, never tried that before. The children was cooked with some tasty spices. The sour cream and cheese on top were the the perfect topping. Very good with the rice or beans too in each bite. If I’m in the area again, I’ll stop by.
We've enjoyed great food from this multigenerational family business for decades! Today we had a fajita steak, beef enchilada, refried beans and guacamole. Creamy beans melt in your mouth! Dessert was the Trujillo fried cheesecake topped with ice cream, chocolate, and caramel ~ it was outstanding!!
This place is AMAZING!! Never been here before & Not only was the staff friendly but great on customer skills. Not to mention the waitress went all her way out to make sure that we were comfortable and that we need anything throughout the visit. The food was freshly-made & delicious. Not only did my business partner and my fiance enjoy the big red Margarita but the food is at a great price love this place will be coming back.
Older eatery. More than ample servings. Everything was clean and orderly.
Good little family owned restaurant. Food is decent and good prices.
The place could use some help. I know it's a lot for a "mom-and-pop" business to pay for upgrades, but a thorough cleaning would be a great start.
I wish they would allow customers to buy margaritas to go as long as food is purchased. I'm not sure what the issue is. Most restaurants in Waco allow this.
Trujillo’s Comedor Y Cantina – A Restaurant Stuck in Time Walking into Trujillo’s Comedor Y Cantina off LaSalle, it’s clear this place has been around a long time. The clientele skews older, the decor feels frozen in time, and the entire operation seems to run on habit rather than intention. There’s nothing inherently wrong with a nostalgic restaurant, but when maintenance, cleanliness, and service start slipping, it becomes a problem. Ambiance & Cleanliness: Neglect is Showing The restaurant has an aged, worn-down feel. Ceiling tiles are missing, vents are dusty, and overall upkeep seems nonexistent. The most concerning issue? Cleanliness. A busser rolled a cart of dirty dishes right behind me while I was eating. Another staff member delivered fresh chips using a cart that still had old food remnants on it. It was impossible to ignore. Service: No Structure, No Attention to Detail The service at Trujillo’s is disjointed and chaotic. Multiple staff members handled different parts of my order, but no one seemed responsible for my table. A hostess sat me, a different person brought chips and salsa (after about two minutes), another server took my drink order, and yet another took my food order. Who was actually my waiter? No clue. When my tacos finally arrived, my chips and salsa were long gone. A server asked if I wanted more, then reached over me to refill the same salsa dish instead of bringing a fresh one. The chips didn’t arrive for another 5–10 minutes, by which time I was already done eating. Trying to check out was another headache. Instead of handling payments at the table, Trujillo’s forces customers to pay at the front counter, creating a bottleneck. Worse, the staff up front seemed more interested in gossiping than managing the checkout process efficiently. The Food: Taco Tuesday Isn’t Enough For $6.99, I got a two-taco plate with rice and beans. It’s a solid price, but you get what you pay for. The tacos were uninspired—basic ground beef, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. The rice and beans? Textbook mediocre. Nothing offensive, nothing memorable. For $10 total (with a drink), it wasn’t overpriced, but with so many better Tex-Mex spots in Waco, I wouldn’t return. The Menu: Too Much of Everything Trujillo’s menu tries to do too much. It’s a six-page sprawl of options, which often leads to inconsistency in execution. A smaller, more focused menu could improve food quality and efficiency. Final Verdict: A Restaurant Running on Nostalgia Trujillo’s isn’t terrible, but it’s far from great. It survives on routine, not reinvention. The food is passable, the service is a mess, and the cleanliness is questionable. Regulars may love it, but for anyone looking for a high-quality, well-run Tex-Mex experience, Waco has far better options. Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5) – Generous, but deserved for longevity, not execution.
Owners and their family eat other food with purses and baby stuff right in the middle of the restaurant. There was a nat in my drink. The food is good sometimes and sometimes not.
Ordered a plate that was supposed to have tortilla, ground beef, refried beans inside with queso on top instead of the chili con carne and a side of fries instead of rice. The only thing that was right was the queso instead of chili con carne. Got rice instead of fried and charro beans on the side with no refried beans in sight.
Seemed our waitress had too much onher mind. We ordered a burrito with lettuce, avocado, and sour cream. She brings a plate of avocado over letting tomatoes. We're like we asked for it inside. She made the corrections. We also ordered fajitas with NO ONIONS, she even confirmed it. It's like we asked load up on the onions. It was greasy too. My husband ate the fajitas only. Sorry to say glad we only passed by, or I'd say we'll never visit this place again.
