Who doesn't love James Coney Island Chili Cheese Hot Dogs?! They are the best ever made in the whole world! Then if that wasn't enough, they make the best chili cheese fries! OMG, such yum! My family love's JCI. They all shut down around us. This location is the closest now or we'd eat there way more. If you don't know about JCI chili cheese dogs and fries please get there and enjoy this earthly treasure. Please don't miss your opportunity. I'd imagine in the after life there would absolutely be JCI dogs and fries but I can't guarantee that. I'd bet on it but I think you should go ahead and not skip your chance at this heavenly gift on earth and taste that sweet sweet JCI. I also suggest getting a root beer to wash it down but any fountain drink will do. You can even get their lemonade. Any drink combo works well. You cant go wrong. But please stick to the chili cheese coneys, dont go getting a burger or some plane dog. This is specifically a call to get the chili cheese coney!
Great food and it was comfortable in the place. It's in a weird kind of hidden location. So I forget that it's there but I'm glad I came. Had the foot long chili cheese coney and a drink.
James Coney Island is for me, nostalgia. My family always went to the Walker Street location in Houston and watch them make these hot dog master pieces. The Webster location is our favorite now. It is quiet, clean, and the people are efficient. We stop in mid day on a work day about once a month just to relax a little and eat our lunch. Sometimes we have to get it to go. It always tastes good. Over the years, JCI shows up at business events to serve their food. Their people are all so nice and welcoming. No plate of cold, dry chicken, or big salad for me. JCI, your food is great!
Chili dogs are a great and wonderful thing. You're not gonna take the time to steam the buns. You can't buy chili like they have. No matter what you do, you can't make them like these guys do. There are people working here just waiting for you to get a craving for chili dogs. If you have kids, this is a no-brainer. God bless us all.
Meal was delicious. Hungry man meal was satisfying with its all beef hotdog. It has a nice bite. Chilly isn’t to acidic nice and smooth. The best for me personally was the walker st meal. The hotdogs are a great mix of beef/pork. The chilly and melted cheese blended great. The fries with the meal are consistent with nice crunchy ends and soft inner. The employees quite and hardworking. I would rather come here on a Sunday with the peace and quit of the establishment. Brought back all my favorite memories with my dad here as a kid
This was a hard experience to write! I've been coming to James Coney Island for as long as I can remember (over 20 years). This was my go to place when visiting. So when we moved down here a few months back, I was excited to say the least. However, I feel like the food has changed. I had the 2 chili cheese dogs, fries and soda. My wife had the Chicago dog, and my daughter had the kids meal chicken. The customer service was great and the restaurant was clean. It's just that the food wasn't as good as it used to be. My chili on my dog was mostly grease, with very little flavor. I actually didn't eat the second dog because it didn't settle well. My wife said the Chicago dog was pretty bland as well. Kids meal was as to be expected. Maybe it was a one off, and I'll have to try it again. I'm just sad to see it really not being the same. Just giving my honest feed back. That said, the service was great!
My first visit to this location on our national holiday July 4th, 2019. Everyone has a favorite JCI location and this location was chosen only as a matter of convenience for myself, due to my need to visit nearby Hobby Lobby. The place of choice for my Independence Day meal of choice for their original Coney Island dogs. This day had the popular 10 for $10 special for today with no limit in place. A good deal if you can steer away from the upgrade of choice which is cheese. Cheese is only a preference of some foodie types of people out here in Houston area. But, Not all the people here, wish for it in their daily diet. The one sign on their counter was the only one I saw advertising this special at this location. And Within the small sign was a small red star with the inclusion of $13 if you want cheese. So “All the Way” here means without cheese, if you wish for your total bill to be $10.83 (tax included). I saw one older male question the cashier with a raised voice about his total. I did also hear another male order extra onions for total of $10.83. I requested No upgrade, because I had shredded cheese already at my home, nearby in Houston. Since the onions have always been minced as a small portion per dog, the company figures they can eat that minor cost, in order to please a potential customer to visit their restaurant, instead of visiting any of the many other choices for restaurants, open on today. Well the month of July is the JCI power month for Houstonians alike! Besides today’s special, there is the National Hot Dog Day which is on Wednesday, July 17th. You will receive a free original coney dog if you are one of the first 96 customers per transaction. And for the third Thursday each month from May through September. This July is on the 18th, for the 96 cent original Coney Island dogs, in celebration of 96 years in Texas business. The reason for todays three stars. The drive through was closed off with a paper Sorry for the inconvenience Sign taped to a pylon. This forced the many visitors here, to seek parking outside the restaurant parking area, with only a limited restaurant parking lot available here for their customers. So their customers were detoured through a congested parking lot to look for parking in nearby businesses, with their very limited spaces available for their own customers. This may have been planned because management could not find the required amount of employees to work the busy restaurant, on our nation’s holiday. My other reason for the shortage of stars is because once detoured inside, management only assigned two of the three available cash registers with two young women. One of the managers should have been on that third register, instead of with the prep crew. At least it appeared as there were two of them there with the crew in the prep area Thank goodness a 75 year old man started up an interesting conversation with me that covered the grounds of our favorite JCI locations in Houston and these periodic scheduled JCI specials. And replaying our experiences with our own high schools in the Houston area and also about our own football dreams and failures and then last but not least, the topic of 60s family TV staple of Bonanza and Lorne Greene as Ben Cartwright. Today is about as American as one could wish for with Bonanza as a center of discussion in Texas born JCI.
When you pay 15.00 for two chili dogs and tots with a drink everything should be hot. I told the worker my tatir tots were not hot and so he takes care of it by taking them and obviously dropping them back in the grease to warm them up which made them hard and crunchy like someone wouldn’t notice. No back and forth as customers grow tired of that but this is how you lose business
Food was bland. The baked tots had no flavor. The fries were cold McDonald’s fries, they used cheez wiz as the cheese which was bad. The dog was boiled not smoked not grilled but tasted like microwaved. The bun wasn’t toasted it was just warm cause of the cheese. Other than that the drinks burger were good. Tried it once not sure if I’d come back until they use it real cheese and cook good meat.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER. How are you going charge a customer for your mistake because your workers can’t speak or understand English and don’t take this as racism I told them in Spanish too they don’t care. Entire staff is rude and incompetent. ZERO customer service skills. Charges me 60 cents for cheese doesn’t even fill the containers. Already called corporate. If Maribel takes your order make sure it’s right before you pay because then they will blame you and charge you for their mistake and your WASTED TIME. It’s obvious this is an ongoing problem based on the reviews and JCI is doing nothing about it.
Hotdogs were rubbery! Sign of overcooking/boiling them! I always remembered this to be delicious and and I’m ole school from James Coney in Downtown Houston off Walker! The Chili isn’t the same taste either! Onion rings were overcooked so burnt tasting! I was sad that the Original James Coney Island Hotdogs I grew up with from the original is not Original anymore! The quality has been replaced with the what seems to be budget cuts! Hotdogs are very skinny and do not look like the ones you can get from the store! I once had the one on Bay Area cater my son’s 3rd Birthday and they were still good then, now they moved to NASA Parkway and through the years have now changed the meat and chili sauce! Very unhappy!
I purchased a coney meal and a small frito pie in the drive thru today 11/3/25. I didn’t try the frito pie until 6:20 or so this evening. The beans in the chili were hard, literally crunchy. I live in Galveston so bringing it back wasn’t an option.
Food is not fresh. Nothing like the original James Coney on Walker with fresh soft buns!!! I told the girl at the counter that I wanted cheese on everything & no onions. I repeated it twice. I got no cheese & manager argue with me & said I was not charge, that I would need to pay if I wanted cheese. I was with a large group & did not have the receipt. Rude jerk of a manager. Will never go back!
My wife and I had a hankering for a hot dog so we came to JCI in Webster. Awful Restaurant! Parking is not accommodating. Restaurant is dark and dirty. Awful Service! Emilia was rude and impatient. We got our food to go, Emilia rolled her eyes. When we received our order, the people in the back looked confused as we were handed our food. We got home and realized the fries were stale with cold cheese on the them. The onion rings were cold and stale as well. They grouped my wife's and I order in 1 box so, quote on quote from the manager, they could be the most cost efficient. Because of this debauchery my wife was unable to consume her plain coney because of the chili dog it was next to because of her allergy. I ate it for her while she cried. The chili dog lacked flavor and was cold as well. We will not be coming back. I don't recommend this location.
I was really disappointed with my recent meal. The food arrived cold and undercooked, which was not only unappetizing but also concerning. It definitely did not meet the standard of quality and flavor I’ve come to expect from Texas-style cuisine. I hope this was just an off day, but improvements are definitely needed.
Not a fan. So it’s been along time and obviously it wasn’t long enough that I have eaten at JCI. Sliders were smashed down until the bread was as thin as the slice of cheese, and the onion rings tasted like the sprayed the onion rings with Great Stuff foam. But the biggest no no was the employee leaning over the food table while texting on his phone, nasty! Don’t waste your money.
