Frenchette – Tribeca, NYC We just finished dinner here and absolutely loved the experience. Frenchette is a quaint, intimate, and romantic French restaurant with a very laid-back charm. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and inviting — stylish without being pretentious. It strikes a perfect balance between upscale dining and comfortable neighborhood energy. The food was excellent across the board — beautifully prepared, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care. Every dish felt thoughtful without being overly complicated. What stood out just as much as the cuisine was the service. The staff was personable, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which made the entire evening feel relaxed and enjoyable rather than formal or stiff. Overall, the restaurant has a light, personable, and welcoming vibe that makes it ideal for a date night or an intimate dinner.
Always wanted to try this place and finally went there with my wife. Food was excellent. I've heard good things about it and it exceeded my expectation. For me it was the oyster appetizer with sausage. Still thinking about it long after having dined there. It's expensive but considering the quality of the meal and location, eminently reasonable.
Jesse: “How’s everything? How’s the fish soup?” Me: “Well, it’s like an elevated Campbells soup. Mmm, but it’s good.” First sip of the fish soup, feels like winter on the docks. The taste of the tomatoes isn’t too acidic and has a nice minor tang with the fish complimenting the soup instead of being the only flavor in the bowl. 🎣🥫🥣 Order the duck frites. 🦆🍟 Fin. 🧑🍳💋 … also if you get Jesse, you’re in luck. He’s an amazing person and also makes ordering the food an incredible experience. “If opulence was a duck named delicious… I’d slaughter the whole pond” -Me PS Tables are really annoying to sit in and very annoying for anyone tall.
Nicest staff. Huge hospitality as soon as you walk in. Great food! What a perfect solo dinner at the bar. Can’t wait to come back for a full dinner in the dining room.
Was in the mindset for a diner and this was a great choice for an upscale classy ambiance. Obsessed with how Oscar makes the amaretto sour. Made me feel like I was in the 70s with the music today. Super happy with the Muscles and Tuna Tar Tar the flavors are so impactful reminding you to take your time. Thank you for the great service so happy will be back with company!
This place was super busy and to be honest I had never heard about it before tonight. I don’t remember how I heard of this place. I know my partner is very excited. The moment you walk in you realize this place is busy bustling even very popular. It’s got a great homie atmosphere and just has this warm exciting feeling I loved every second. The food was perfect. We weren’t gonna order bread, but we weren’t ended up ordering a baguette and came with beautiful butter, which was perfect for everything. I think it was the prosciutto or the shaved meat maybe Jamin was one of the best dishes me and my partner have ever had in New York City. It was absolutely perfect and the reason why this is one of my favorite meals of New York City this year in 2025 The pasta decadent the steak, smothered and sauce, the french fries small and simple they weren’t homemade I think, but it doesn’t matter Honestly, everything here is so good that I just can’t wait to go back and I have thought about this place when I see it recommended on TikTok and online and I’m like that place was good. I’m surprised it isn’t overwhelmed more than it is cause it’s great. I will definitely be coming back here when I wanna impress someone or I’m looking for a really good French meal go for it. Don’t stop run.
Absolutely phenomenal. Frenchette is an outstanding restaurant and a true NYC gem. The food is bold, refined, and incredibly flavorful—every dish is a delight. The atmosphere is lively yet warm, and the service is impeccable. A special mention for the exceptional natural wine list: thoughtfully curated, exciting, and one of the best in the city. An unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. Highly recommended.
I had such a wonderful experience at Frenchette, and it easily reminded me why this restaurant has the reputation it does. The sourdough pancake was the standout of the meal — incredibly delicious, light yet flavorful, with that perfect tangy depth you can only get from really well-made sourdough. It’s one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after the plate is cleared. I also tried the sausage and oyster platter, which was unexpected in the best possible way. I wasn’t sure what to anticipate from that combination, but it turned out to be absolutely scrumptious. The flavors were balanced, rich, and surprisingly harmonious. It’s the kind of dish that makes you appreciate Frenchette’s creativity and confidence in their menu. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was warm, lively, and effortlessly chic. The staff was attentive without hovering, and everything felt seamless from start to finish. Frenchette delivers a dining experience that feels both special and comfortable — a place where you can relax, enjoy, and trust that anything you order will be thoughtfully prepared. Highly recommend for anyone looking to have an unforgettable meal.
Frenchette has a cozy vibe and truly feels French. The food was outstanding — honestly better than many Michelin-starred places I’ve tried. The duck was the absolute highlight, cooked to perfection, and I can’t wait to have it again. For dessert, we had the Paris-Brest with pistachio cream — such a creative twist and absolutely delicious! Service was warm and attentive, even though the restaurant was completely packed. I’ll definitely be back for both the duck and the dessert.
The steak and fish soup were outstanding. Usually the chicken is really good but it was a little dry tonight and not amazing. Cocktails were yummy but some are light so if you are looking for a drink drink, you might have to order one proper. We had a super early reservation so got to choose the table and the restaurant quickly filled up. Atmosphere was always nice and service was good (by US standards) I found the appetizers stronger than the mains with the exception of the steak. That I think is a must have. French fries to die for and mashed potatoes were just heavenly.
I just wanted to share that my family and I had an amazing experience here. My parents were visiting me in New York from France, and we stopped by for drinks at the bar. The bartender took such thoughtful and genuine care of us — it was truly exceptional. I’ve never experienced service like that in NYC! We were so impressed and wish we had gotten his name to thank him properly. Also, the eggs and bread with butter were absolutely delicious — and that’s saying something coming from a French family! Thank you, Frenchette and the bartender. We’ll definitely be back for dinner. The atmosphere was wonderful!
We came here for dinner on a Wednesday and loved it! They serve wonderfully elevated French brasserie style food in a buzzy setting. We were surprised at how busy it was mid week but after sampling a few dishes I can see why. I started with a salt cod spread served with toast followed by the beef tartare - both excellent. My partner’s starter of pasta was also nice but felt it was a bit small for the price. But the sea bass she ordered was one of the stars of the night. Perfectly cooked and the fennel seed rub was simply amazing! The other star was the pistachio dessert which is a must order. I definitely look forward to a return visit!
The first appetizer had very little fish — it was mostly beets. The flavor was actually nice though, slightly sweet with yogurt, which worked well together. The second dish tasted good, but unfortunately a lot of the beef was extremely fatty to the point that it was hard to eat. I asked the server about it and was told that wasn’t something they could control, which I didn’t really understand. It wasn’t just a bit of fat — it felt like I was chewing pure fat at times, and trimming some of it would have made a big difference. The dessert at the end was really enjoyable — passion fruit flavored and easily my favorite part of the meal.
Frenchette is undeniably stylish and the food is very good—the bread and butter are legendary for a reason. However, it's incredibly popular and can get very loud and crowded, which takes away from the experience a bit. Service from Korra was great, but the noise level made it hard to have a conversation. Still a solid choice for French food, just be prepared for a bustling scene.
My impression is French fries. Absolutely delicious. Pancake was a little burnt. It seems like ok even tho it’s not burnt. Beef tartar was good especially good with fries. Service… well, I don’t know they know what a service is. They come to check in on you. They believe they’re offering good service, but they don’t truly understand what people really want.
Something is a little off about Frenchette. The question about a place like this is one of degree: there are dozens of French bistros in downtown Manhattan, so why choose one that has higher-than-average prices (including some stratospheric prices) and where it’s really hard to get a table? You expect to find a place where the food and the service are definitely up a notch from its competitors. And? Not quite. Our server was not just reserved but hostile, a parody of a French waiter dealing with uncouth Americans. The wine list was removed from the table before anyone asked if we wanted to order wine. There was a parade of little details like this that suggest to me the place is not getting enough feedback or oversight. The food was pretty great, but again, weird inconsistencies. The roast chicken, which is supposed to be the star, was mediocre with a dry breast (seriously?) The bouillabaisse was excellent, but fairly small for a $50 dish, with the aioli served on a single slice of baguette (why?) And the côte du boeuf, at $8 an ounce…you do the math. That’s an 8 oz portion for $64. It was good, but not THAT good. Basically? I was impressed but I wouldn’t go back, mostly because the waiter’s behavior was unacceptable—it would be anywhere but especially at a place like this. A bistro is supposed to be 100% fun and Frenchette isn’t.
I’ve been wanting to come to this restaurant ever since @TheCarboholic from Instagram said that it has one of the best pancakes in NYC. The hype is for real. The pancake is amazing! Crisp edges and a light and fluffy interior. I also ordered a latte and a baguette with French butter. Everything was great. The staff is very friendly. The only thing I would advise to people when they’re coming to this restaurant is that it’s a bit pricey. I would definitely come back to try other items from the menu. Overall, this is a great restaurant.
Food is good but not good enough for this price point. There are plenty of brunch restaurants serving up good pancakes and what not. This price is ridiculous. Swordfish was okay. Bread was good but wasn’t warm. My bf really enjoyed the pancake but not my favorite. It’s a better version of the chez ma tante pancake. Omelette was good but small. The best thing we had were those fries by far. Don’t know how but perfect levels of crisp and salt, not one fry under salted or soggy. My sorrel lemonade did not taste or look like sorrel and was ridiculously priced. I’d go ONLY for the fries. I’m eager to try bubby’s nearby.
While the pan-roasted skate wing was perfectly prepared and flavorful, other aspects of the evening were disappointing. The escargot in scrambled eggs lacked imagination and taste. Furthermore, the atmosphere was quite loud and raucous, reminiscent of a typical bar during happy hour rather than a refined dining establishment. The most significant letdown, however, was the glassware. For an establishment that lists wines at $400 a bottle, serving them in basic water glasses is inappropriate and detracts from the overall experience. I hope you find this feedback constructive as you look to maintain the quality of your service and presentation.
Had a pretty disappointing experience here for lunch. It took 15 minutes before our waitress came over. We ordered the oysters which were delicious and got steak frites. We ordered it medium rare but it came out well done. They politely took it back and the second steaks were cooked medium rare but the crust was burnt. The waitress was no where to be found the entire time and we had to flag her down from the bar area. We’ve been to other restaurants as part of this group and have had a great experience but this really missed the mark.
