We were in Winston at the hospital with a loved one on Thanksgiving day. This was a pleasant surprise. Excellent cocktails prepared by Jay. Nice appetizers and quality entrées. Nice modern atmosphere with access to sports events on TV in the bar.
I’ve heard so many good things about this place, so of course I had to come check it out. I visited over the past week for a couple quick drinks while I finished up some work on my laptop & was thoroughly impressed. Not just by my food & drinks but by the cleanliness of the restaurant & the attentiveness of my server, Eriqa. I wasn’t going to order anything besides my wine as I had plans to make dinner, but the way Eriqa talked about the food, I HAD to try something. I decided on the wings. Full of flavor & juicy meat, I made the right choice. I’ll come back to sit in Eriqa’s section again to explore the rest of the menu.
2nd time visiting with family.. Its a bit pricy for a very few selection on the menu. Bar serves great drinks, service took long than expected. Not the worse steak i had, but far from good. Overall the place is nice but food could be better.
We hosted a private dinner with the help of Kadijah! She is phenomenal and service directed by Vinctor was amazing! The manager Chris horrible. He didn’t read any email correspondence to the point he ruined the surprise party! Told the twin honorees as soon as they pulled up. He was no help the entire night
We stayed out the Marriott this weekend, and the Butcher and Bull was a convenient supper option after a long day. We had such a great experience that we went back the next night. From everything we got the Mac and cheese gets the prize, but he arugula salad was also amazing! (How can you be excited about a salad?) This one comes with sliced strawberries, slivered almonds, goat cheese crumbles, and candied bacon—topped with a jalapeño vinaigrette dressing. Wow. Chef Ro actually came to our table and let me sample other lettuce varieties. The next night I tried the same salad with blackened salmon and mixed greens. Almost as pretty as arugula—without the “bite.”
Visited here for Mother’s Day 5/11/25 for the first time my wife and I loved it . Chef Ro and staff were amazing great food and customer service will definitely be back . The Salmon with Mac and cheese were like something mom would make.
Stayed at the Marriott for Wrestlecade 2023 and had dinner here the first night. It was very busy with so many people in town but we only had a short wait to be seated and service was reasonable considering the crowd. We tried The Butchers Board and Lobster Artichoke dip for appetizers. The butcher board was absolutely delicious, only wish it had a little more food with it. The lobster dip was also delicious both dishes had a fancy feel. Main course was The Butchers Burger and it was incredible! So juicy and cooked to perfection. It was so good that I forgot to take a picture of it, whoops. I loved everything about the meal and hope to go back next time I'm in town.
This lovely restaurant is conveniently situated in lobby of the downtown Marriott in Winston Salem. We were seated immediately on a Sunday evening by a friendly and welcoming hostess. Our waiter, Vinton, was progressional and personable. Vinton recommended the Filet for me and was happy to have the chef make an off menu meal (a grilled cheese sandwich) for my son. It which was served with a side of salted vinegar frites. The steak I was served was seasoned to perfection and charred on the outside and a perfect medium rare on the inside, just as I ordered it. My son really enjoyed the surprise birthday dessert, which was some sort of chocolate salted caramel dish with ice cream. Delightful and would return.
We chose Butcher & Bull for our date night dinner and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was nice, the staff was professional and welcoming and the food was delicious. The charred octopus and dry-aged bone-in ribeye was my favorite. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I can’t wait to go back!
I recently was in Winston for a convention, and stayed at the Marriott. I had dinner at Butcher & Bull since they are in the same building, and it may have been one of the best steaks I've had. I was alone so I sat at the bar and was quickly waited on by both staff members behind the bar. My food came out and it was delicious. I would encourage people to give this place a try, it will be worth it.
We had a good experience here in May. Old fashioned was delicious and we ordered the tomahawk steak to share. Oh let me not forget the bread pudding. Sooo good! Very nice atmosphere and the service was good.
Upscale hotel steakhouse with outstanding steaks and service!
We are at the bar and the service was amazing, food was great and atmosphere was nice.
I reserved a table for my boyfriend’s birthday and asked the staff (wonderful Ms. Linda!) if they could present a certain “cake” at the end of the meal and WOW, did they deliver! Tony was an excellent, vibrant, genuine server and I cannot thank him enough for such a special evening. The manager JD stopped by our table and was also a treat to chat with! The food was wonderful, the drinks were cold & quick to arrive to our table and Tony nailed every last bit of this evening. He was truly the most beloved part of this evening, the celebrations wouldn’t have been the same without his warmth and kindness. Thank yall SO much- from the bottom of my heart! We WILL be back!
GET THE WAGYU BURGER. Honestly every time I’ve been here it’s the only thing I’ve got and it’s amazing. It’s one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Wagyu beef is light, delicious and incredibly flavorful. They do it like a double dinner style with just cheese and sauce. It’s unbelievable. I crave it every time I’m in Winston Salem. Check it out. Also side note: they do French fries RIGHT here. Seriously go get this burger. It’s a life changing experience.
Enjoyed a great dinner out with friends. The food was wonderful!
Enjoyed an evening at Butcher & Bull. Crab & artichoke dip appetizer, ribeye special & cheese burger dinners, & chocolate cake dessert. The red wine paired perfectly…the servers were top notch too. Hope to return.
We had Laurie as our bartender tonight and she was fantastic! Best bar service around!!
We have visited on several occasions. It's always been a great restaurant. However, this time it was even better than the past. The service was spot on! If you go there say hi to my brother Tony and Sergay the chef!
This was our second Thanksgiving Day brunch at Butcher & Bull. The staff (especially Cameron) were outstanding. The food was great. The staff were kind. The atmosphere is very clean. We are definitely making this a yearly stop for Thanksgiving Brunch!
Lauri was amazing. She pours with pourest, bars with the barest, and fireballs with the fireballest. Would recommend to everyone that isn’t trash
My family celebrated a birthday dinner here. It was decorated beautifully for the holidays and the food was amazing. The best part for all of us, was our server, Tony. I’ve never had an experience with another server like we did with Tony. He took the best care of us. He was very personable. Just went above and beyond the entire time we were there. We talked, laughed, cried, and prayed together. It was a special experience that I hope others can enjoy as well! Thank you, Tony. We love you!
Laurie is a wonderful and attentive bartender. She made my birthday so much fun!!!!
We had dinner at Butcher & Bull and overall enjoyed the experience. I started with an extra dirty martini that was well made, and we shared the buffalo cauliflower appetizer, which was flavorful and had a nice kick. For entrées, we had the black garlic miso glazed halibut with spinach, brown butter fregola, and scallions, also had the 8oz cab filet topped with shrimp and lobster tail, with potatoes and mushrooms on the side. Both dishes were good, though not quite “wow” or unforgettable. What really stood out was the service attentive, friendly, and perfectly paced. All in all, a solid dining experience with excellent hospitality.
Very nice atmosphere and delicious food but the best part is the friendly staff behind the bar. Keely and Jay are awesome mixologists and they make you feel very welcome, like you are amoungst friends. Would definitely recommend visiting.
Food was good, little small portions for the price. Place was very loud and hard to have a conversation at the table.
Food was good, it got cool fast n it was not hot at all by time I got it but otherwise it was good
Popped in for a Li'l Something. Had a very good Tito's call Dirty Martini. I told Bartender Jay (I think),that it was perfect. I normally ask for 3 olives but did not this time but it was provided. I was impressed by that. They were also fresh. Ordered the Shiitake Tacos, Sea Salt Steak Fries , and the Sauteed Spinach. The menu states shareable, (I assumed for two), it wasn't so IMHO for the spinach, and as a negative caveat; it was salty and was returned. I do not know how it was prepared but in my mind from the taste of it, I imagined it was sauteed in some type of light oil and jarred minced garlic with a bit of Soy, salt, and a hint of fish sauce that left it far too heavy in sodium. I found the Tacos to be not much of a prize. They present in a blah, on a blah plating. The mushrooms have a nice chew if you need the meat reminder, but the slaw with them is too sweet in my opinion for the savory ratio of shroom and the taco itself seems larger than needed for the contents. I felt as if I could make it into a dumpling or crispy pillow. The Steak Fries were ample and very good, although after a bit the salt becomes a bit heavy. The ketchup with them is a bit sweet, and you should order an extra one. For $14.00 a mid quality Truffle oil should be offered and an aioli of some sort should be available. The two bar staff were great! Also, there was a mgmt type fellow in a jacket sweeping the floors and communicating with staff. That was stellar. I normally get steak here like I did when it was WS Prime. I'll go back for steak next time.
The food was good. The atmosphere okay. However, Jess, our server, was spectacular--attentive, good natures and good humored. I would consider returning because of her. The entire staff at the W-S Marriott were better than most of the Marriotts I have visited.
Well, they started out forgetting my salad. And followed up by serving my steak MW and not the MR I asked for. They did however comp my meal and threw in a dessert. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, and to be honest, if I pretended I liked MW, the seasoning was pretty good on the ribeye, even if it was overcooked. I'll probably try it again, but for the price, and it being Christmas day, I really wanted better from them.
This restaurant is connected to the Marriott. The interior design is lovely but seating is a bit stale. Our service was just ok and the food was hit or miss. Appetizers and sides were good. Steaks were overcooked.
Flavor wise, the ribeye was bland and the chimichurri wasn’t for my taste. I didn’t add salt or pepper but it would’ve definitely improved the steak. The steak was cooked a little rarer as I asked for medium but it was still cooked well. The Mac n cheese was great but the fries weren’t anything to go crazy for. The portion size was nice though even tho it was $8 each I give it 3/5 because of the price and flavor. I know it’s a restaurant in a hotel but I made the mistake of not seeing the steak house around the corner “spotted cow” as they are cheaper but idk if the food is better. At least for $40 you get a ribeye and 2 sides. I won’t be eating here again when I’m back in Winston Salem but it wasn’t like it was horrible. $45 rib eye. $3 for chimichurri and $8 each for sides.
I had a $40 voucher for staying at the Marriott to eat here for breakfast. I ordered the All American classic and it was supposed to come with coffee and juice but for some reason the server didn't give any of that to me. I ordered a latte on the side so I wasn't sure if it was charged extra since I had a voucher. Do yourself a favor and skip the all American classic dish. It was not good and tasted like fast food. My colleague got the Belgian waffle and it looked pretty good.
The server was very friendly but she never offered me a single refill on the iced tea. The NY STRIP had a very good flavor, but it was a bit overcooked. I ordered medium but it was definitely medium well. The "parmesean fries" were completely missing all signs of any actual parmesean. They were very comparable to McDonald's fries but colder. Dinner for 2 was a bit overpriced at $120. This place is very underwhelming so we will not be going back.
The food was good. I asked for well done but my steak was a little red. The staff was great. Unfortunately they seem to have only 2 workers in the dining hall on a Saturday night. The place was super cold. So we gad to sat fast so we can get out of there.
This meal was mediocre at best. We had the wagyu burgers that were dry and well over seasoned. The buffalo cauliflower was fine, but in giant chunks and the shiitake mushrooms were fun idea but over salted. The room had potential but appeared to decorated by Hobby Lobby. The music was classic rock on burnt CD that kept skipping!?! If you can help it i wouldn’t recommend eating here.
As a food critic in and outside of the US, I must say that I was very disappointed in the Mother's Day buffet at this restaurant. The food was either cold or dried out. Best thing I had was the omelet made to order. Grossly overpriced! There should be an experienced food staff for an upscale restaurant that you expect to be 5 stars. Staff was nice and accommodating.
This restaurant is attached to the Marriott hotel. We were seated about 45 minutes after our reservation time and had multiple issues with order accuracy (in addition to generally slow service). The food was ultimately "fine" but not what you'd expect from the branding and price point. I don't think their operation is where they needed it to be, maybe they are understaffed?
Had a reservation at 6:30. Arrived early and was seated right away. Server was over right away. Ordered the wagyu slider app. It came out burnt and way over cooked. We each ordered a steak. My husband’s steak came out great, hot and cooked correctly. Mine came out barely warm, over cooked and looked like it had been sitting in the hot window for a while. The juice from the steak was dried to the plate. Manager was nice and took care of the food that was night right. But start to finish we weee there almost 3 hours which is insane for dinner. It definitely wasn’t the servers fault. But she was the only server on and had like 10 plus tables which isn’t good for any server in a restaurant like that. We had heard good things about this place but I’m not sure if it was just a bad night or what but not sure if we will be back or not. The server was very nice and attentive! And she deserves kudos for not being overwhelmed or at least not showing that to anyone with how many tables she had.
I want to start this off by saying that the star rating has nothing to do with our server. Cheyenne was absolutely amazing and apologized profusely for everything. The first thing we noticed when entering the restaurant that the temperature was the same inside as it was outside and we were all sweating. That being said, our reservation was at 1845 and we are just now leaving the restaurant at 2035, with two people in our party not even eating. Both my husband and my mom's steaks were completely overcooked (obviously overcooked, like well done beef jerky dry) , they ordered them medium and they received them well done after waiting 30 minutes for their food to come out. The steaks here also came precut to the table, so the kitchen staff saw that the steaks were well overcooked and still sent the meals to the table. Mind you the restaurant was empty so I cannot even blame it on them being slammed. After waiting another twenty minutes for their steaks to be remade, they made the decision that they (my husband and my mom) were just ready to go home. The best part is the steaks when brought again the second time were still overcooked and completely dryed out from being overcooked. The final straw of the evening, they brought the checks and only took off $20 instead of comping the two meals that were not even eaten. We eventually got our checks fixed to have it reflect what was eaten, I feel horrible for our waitress because she was extremely embarrassed. However, I will never be returning to this restaurant again, I try to never leave bad reviews, but for the prices and the issues I could not help doing so. I'm astonished that this is attached to a Marriott.
Finally couldn't resist after the holiday theme. Theme was well done. Everything else no.... first it was so cold inside it was not enjoyable. Even my husband who is generally always hot had to keep his jacket on the entire time in here. Its almost as if the air conditioning was on- in December. Anyway food was super bland and menu very heavy food, nothing light. Drinks were weak for the price would expect to taste the alcohol but did not.
Came here on New Years Eve to celebrate my sisters birthday. Going to give details so if the owner cares at all - they can read these to understand the issues and why they will be out of business soon if they don’t correct things. 1 - the hostess is not greeting, not communicating and when we tried to flag her down because she was the only employee around - she pretended not to hear us and avoided eye contact. We waited for 20 plus minutes and had to flag someone down to try to find our server. Dinner took 3.5 hours- that’s an issue. We had 1 alcohol drink - because our server was barely around so there wasn’t really service. Our orders were all wrong sides- the food runner asked me to take my side off another persons plate- what?! I couldn’t believe that. “Oh, looks like they put your side on her plate- can you just grab that? “ So I grabbed a dirty appetizer plate and said sure… then everyone’s side items were wrong- but ok. Food is ok- you would expect half the price for the quality though. Server disappears for over 45 minutes. We ask to speak to the manager. The manager is the reason things are so bad I assume. He sees we are upset and we say - we are not paying 22% for terrible service - he doesn’t ask how the meal was or take any action except agreeing to remove the gratuity. The waitress then argued it was automatic and can’t be removed, after it was removed. We are sometimes 50% tippers for awesome experiences- because it was new years we left 10% but honestly the whole meal should of been comped with how the dinner and service just ruined our whole night with how bad it was. This was an experience so frustrating it ruined our New Years Eve and my sisters birthday. To the diners reading this - Don’t spend your money here - terrible experience. To the owner - you have a serious staff issue through the entire restaurant.
We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time and waited another 30 minutes for wait staff to come to our table. Steaks were mediocre, chicken was dry, and spare rib was extremely fatty. The buffalo cauliflower and bread were the highlights of the meal, which is very disappointing with the cost of the meal. The dismal quality of the food and service illustrates that they are way understaffed and/or way overbooked. Unfortunately, we won't be back and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone else.
Disappointed. Our server was extremely nice and friendly, but service was a little delayed and intermittent. Not sure if it was due to to staffing or not. Steaks for the entire table were all overcooked. Food as a whole was extremely over seasoned. Given the prices I would have expected a better experience.
The food was okay, but subpar for the price point. The service was the worst I can remember in a restaurant. One of the members of our party's food came a few minutes after the rest of ours...but just the steak, it was a few minutes later before their side came. We waited 35-40 minutes before asking a different server for the checks. She asked has it was divided, we told her. Then several minutes later our server came out and asked each of us to tell him what we had ordered so that he could divide up the check. It was a while before it came out. Every step took way too long. I will give an abundance of grace being a holiday, but the table beside us left close to an hour before us.
Had reservation for 7:15. Not a soul spoke to us to get our order drink or anything. Servers were serving all the people beside us and nothing was said to us. At 8:30 we left. No food. No service.
I was at this restaurant on 10/17/25 11:15pm, waitress Stacey took my payment which was $36 and when she brought my receipt it showed I was charged $277.96! I called her to the table to show her the mistake, the manger came over and said that he refunded the amount charged, however it’s Tuesday 10/21/25 and my account is still not showing the refund! I called my bank and was told that they don’t see it as being a refund! I’m visiting this place when they open today! Someone has to answer for their mistakes! The waitress was so busy trashing the place about their wings when she should have been focused on doing her damn job!
Well, we didnt have the greatest experience ever here. We traveled to Lexington for buisness and wanted a good steak after a long week of work. We looked around and picked the butcher and bull in Winston Salem 25 mins away, bc we saw waygu on the menu, arrived at the restaurant and ordered 2 waygu steaks, cooked medium rare. Steaks come out and they are every bit on blue rare, send them back and they come back a 2nd time same temperature. This waygu strip is by far THE WORST steak ive ever had in my life. We asked for boxes so we could give to our dogs. (And I shit you not we get home the dog sniffs it and walks away) The "chef" comes out and offers us a slice of chocolate cake to make up for the bad steaks in which i had to remind the bartender because the "chef" that went outside to smoke didnt put the cake in. Needless to say we wont be returning to the butcher and bull and would highly recommend if youre looking for a good steak it isnt here.
Marriott front desk told me I shouldn’t host my 8 person team dinner at the restaurant that it isn’t a good spot and the service is poor. They said even they avoid going.
We had a 7:30 p.m. reservation last night and unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, we were directed to a small banquet room in the back of the restaurant rather than the main dining area. The room was set up with small round tables and red banquet-style chairs, which felt more like a conference setup than a special holiday dining experience. The atmosphere lacked the ambiance and intimacy we were expecting for the occasion. There were approximately ten other couples seated in the room, and the environment felt noticeably uncomfortable. As we walked through the restaurant to the banquet space, we observed that no tables including those in the main dining area had received food. Once seated, it became clear that no one in the banquet room had been served or even had their orders taken. After sitting for several minutes in an awkward and uncertain atmosphere, with no visible service activity and no communication from staff, we decided to leave. Whether the issue was understaffing or poor planning for a busy holiday, the experience did not meet even basic expectations. If you are planning to make a reservation for a special occasion, particularly Valentine's Day, be aware that you may be seated in a separate banquet room with limited ambiance and potentially long waits before service even begins. Very disappointing overall.
