El Potro Mexican Restaurant

If I could give my server Rene 10 stars I absolutely would. The service was excellent, the food was so good I forgot to take a pic before eating, but you should definitely try to their birria empanadas. I loved everything about this place.. will be returning

Went here after church with a pretty big group, they were very nice, and I noticed that the place seemed clean, they were sweeping and it just felt clean, bathroom too. They had a large selection of food, and variety. I had a large burrito with white sauce all over it and it was delicious, I had the steak. And everyone got something different. Some meals had rice and beans and a salad so there's a big variety. Our waiter was the manager and he was very very nice. I would definitely go there again. And the prices were very very reasonable You can eat between $10 and $20 for sure.

We had a great experience thanks to our waiter Marco’s outstanding customer service. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect without ever being overbearing. He checked in at the right moments, answered our questions confidently, and genuinely seemed to care about our experience. Service like this really makes a difference and turned a good meal into a great one. Highly recommend!

Rene is the best he always takes care of me. If Rene is off Marco provides great service as well. The food is great and authentic. It’s very quick and fresh. I frequently go here so they know exactly what I need always. Honestly, I have been to a couple of their other locations and there is no comparison to service they provide at the Winter Park location. I have been going here for years. Appreciate Rene and Marco’s service always. Even if it’s busy everything is great and authentic.

When I tell you it was so good! The cook tonight, 1/28/2026, was on point with every single thing we ordered. We came tonight to celebrate my son’s wonderful grades And El Potro did not disappoint. Cheese dip, horchatas, chicken fajitas. Def a spot to try if you have never been which will end up being a spot you continue to enjoy.

Marco was lovely and super attentive!! The food was soooo tasty and came out quick and fresh. We never had to wait long for anything we ordered and Marco was always present if we did need something. He even brought us giant pencils and pens for our checks at the end of the meal :) Overall, this place is amazing every time I go and the workers really make the experience enjoyable.

We had another fantastic meal at El Potro in Winter Park. The Quesadilla Supreme is so huge and delicious that it usually is our meal of choice. But the menu is extensive and seeing what others ordered will eventually help me to try something else. The owner is so friendly and always comes over to chat with us and make sure we got all we wanted. This is a great place with reasonable prices that serves huge servings of delicious food and they are very willing to accomodate most any special request you may have! I highly recommend you try them! 👍

El Potro is always a great experience for us. The service is fantastic, we’ve had several servers who have all been very friendly and attentive. Our most recent server Ruben V. was so nice and made us feel welcome. The food is consistently good, we recently tried the new Tacos Barbacoa and the Pollo à la Diabla. The barbacoa had great flavor and I’m a fan of their salsa verde. The Diabla has a decent amount of spice and tons of flavor. We also got the queso, which is very good. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, they have murals hand painted on the windows which are very cute. The restaurant is clean. Also I find their prices reasonable. They also have a large selection of alcoholic beverages, I didn’t have any this time but in the past I’ve tried a few different ones and they have all been good.

I’ve gone here a few times now and I’ve honestly been so happy! The food is amazing! The service is incredible! The atmosphere just feels homey and nice. My most recent time going, Ruben served my friend and I and was incredibly attentive and kind! A great server truly! I’m very pleased with my experience at this restaurant and I will return again soon! ☺️

Our Winter Park location lunch choices consisted of a beef enchilada plate with rice and refried beans. Also included was a side dish of guacamole, diced tomatoes and sour cream. The next menu item choice was a medium-sized bowl of caldo de pollo with shredded chicken, carrots and celery. A side dish of onions, cilantro, a lime slice, and corn tortillas completed the main course order. For desert we indulged in a chimichanga-themed banana split which was very delicious. Our simple beverage choices consisted of just water and a diet coke. The background music playlist consisted of various traditional Mexican and a Selena tunes too. Additionally, we ordered a takeout plate of tres gorditas (chicken, carne asada and shredded beef). Overall food portions were relatively large and their prices were very reasonable. Marco our server was very friendly, courteous and provided superior customer service. And remember compadres, Échale chile!

This year for Christmas, our family did Christmas around the world. I had Mexico. I ordered a traditional Christmas dinner to enjoy on Christmas day. I ordered Tamales, Rice, Beans & Flan for pick up on Christmas Eve. Carlos was a great help on deciding menu and super kind. The staff on order & pick up day was amazing. The food was ready on time & was absolutely incredible - my family couldn't get enough of the rice. My 8 year old granddaughter had 5 tamales. Reheated perfectly. My only recommendation would be that packaging could be a smidge better, please use the aluminum pan covers instead of foil. The bean pan was so full & heavy - kinda made it difficult to carry without spilling. Overall a fabulous experience with El Potro & highly recommend.

We used to frequent El Potro because of the delicious food and fine service, however, on the evening of 28-FEB-2026 we encountered a different experience. My wife and were honoring the memory of our late niece, in an establishment where we had shared good times before she tragically passed. Everything was going well until we ordered guacamole without sour cream in it [how it is usually served here, for some odd reason], and because sour cream causes my wife severe gastric issues, quickly requiring a mop and bucket to clean up. We were served the guacamole by our lady server [a new gal, we had never encountered before] and were informed that it was made "special", for us. We thanked her and tried it. Much to our horror, the guacamole tasted like a salt lick, as if it had been tainted with over 60 ml [4 table spoons] of salt. We caught her attention and informed her, asking her to sample it. She refused, insisting that it was made "special" for us. I politely informed her that we can no longer trust the establishment. She then offered to cancel our food orders. We agreed and offered to pay for our drinks. She reacted with surprise as we got up to depart, cowering that the drinks were "on the house". Strangely, she never offered to allow us to speak to a manager and seemed quite horrified as we walked out. I don't know what sort of game El Potro is playing but tainting food is a NO GO. Thanks for ruining our evening and dinner. I hope whomever tainted our guacamole DIAF and RIH. Don't waste your efforts with disingenuous, insincere apologies. We're not having it. You know what you did, YOU FAILED. We can no longer trust you. We're done. I would have emailed management directly but the establishment's website provides no email address. Left with no choice, I am making the situation known here. Now the internet gets to read about it. Sorry, not sorry.
