Awesome restaurant and friendly staff are just icing on the cake when paired with the great tasting food we received. We ordered the warm bread before our meals were served and it was gone in no time… very good. Our food was served in a timely manor by our waiter who was always available to take care of our needs. I ordered the Ribeye Steak with garlic mashed potatoes along with a lobster tail as a side. Other orders at our table included lobster and tri-tip… all were very good. Granted, the meals can be a little pricey, but the quality and atmosphere is definitely worth the price. I highly recommend you give the Buckhorn a visit if you’re looking for a great meal.

The original buckhorn located in Winters in their nice little city area that has both a bar area, a separate bar area, and a dining area. It gets busy here after work and you can make reservations. We had a reservation for 5 (4 adults and a toddler) at 6, but we came early for drinks at the bar at 5. There are def bucks on the walls, nice cocktails and strong drinks, plenty of service. We moved over to the dining side for dinner and we started with appetizers— brussel sprouts, Cajun steak bites, and garlic truffle fries. For our entrees I got their roadhouse chopped salad that comes with Tri tip, they didn’t ask me how I wanted it but I like it medium rare and it felt right. The salad was amazing and huge! One of my friends got the Tri tip bites as an entree and added fried shrimp. Someone also ordered the grilled salmon and then another got the char Tri tip well done to share with their kid and added garlic mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and string beans. Since we were celebrating a birthday they gave us a candle with their mocha almond cookie ice cream which was super good! There’s street parking up front and multiple parking lots surrounding the area.

Having a meal at Buckhorn is always a great experience. And my sentiments are obviously shared since the place is usually packed with happy diners. We started off with a house salad that was big enough for two to share. From there, two of us enjoyed 7-ounce filet mignons, which were cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were delicious; the cheese and bacon a wonderful addition. A member of our party chose a rack of pork ribs, which was huge. We have never seen so much meat on the bones! Service was fast, but not too fast, allowing us to enjoy our meal. The environment is full of energy, but not so loud you can't have a decent conversation. Buckhorn Steakhouse is definitely worth the drive to Winters.

We visited Buckhorn Steakhouse to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary after it was highly recommended by a coworker—and it did not disappoint! From the ease of making reservations online to the warm welcome we received upon arrival, everything was seamless. The staff was incredibly polite and courteous, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Our food was absolutely on point—every bite was delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was prompt with great attention to detail, making our special evening feel even more memorable. We’re already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend!

Consistently a good experience at Buckhorn Steakhouse. It is a bit pricey, but you get generous portions, so always some leftovers to enjoy later. I got the Shrimp Linguini and it was excellent. They have a good selection of drinks for any taste. Decent kid’s menu so you can dine something any kid will like.

My friends and I went for dinner before seeing Jo Koy at Cache Creek Casino. We had the tater tot appetizer and the calamari, both absolutely amazing. My bestie and I shared the tomahawk steak meal for 2 and we brought the bone home for our 2 golden retrievers. We loved the steak and they loved the bone lol definitely coming back for our next gathering!

Amazing steaks in a historical exposed brick building. Our family loved all our steaks, large selection of wines & cocktails. Excellent customer service!

The original Buckhorn makes a good location for a fancier and a more upscale class dining experience. The interior, that is perfectly lit with comforting gold lighting, is filled with heads of game that finish of the setting of a cabin in the hills. Their service was honorable for many restaurants, and the food was delicious, it happens to be even better than other locations. As well as higher quality food. I ordered a 9oz ribeye with a baked potato and asparagus👇🥩 Edit: I dined here again and had an even better experience. Ordered the tri-tip, loaded baked potato and seasonal medley this time around. Once again, pure delicious

We came here last night to finish planning for a dinner we are hosting the the following night. They have been extremely helpful during the planning (50 people) and seating. Last night we had a few ‘apps’ and some cocktails and they were very good. I had not been in this establishment for almost 30 years and it has been extensively remodeled and it is fantastic! Love the new look and feel.

Every time I eat here I am never disappointed, and this visit was no exception. My family went there to celebrate a birthday, we each ordered something different, and each entreé was delicious. My Taylor sirloin wrapped in bacon had a yummy char to it, my husband's Surf and Turf with lobster was lovely, & my brother's fried chicken sandwich was a spicy but good surprise. Our server Robbie was friendly and checked on us regularly to make sure we were content. Buckhorn, you never cease to amaze me.

tomahawk and Dark pepper butter. Oh my. The tomahawk was flavored and paired with the flavored butter is amazing. The calamari was ok and the iceberg wedge was delicious. this is by far one of the best statehouse I have been to. the portions are generous and don't for forget to add the lobster tail. A family of 3 can easily feast on a tomahawk.

I had one of the best steaks of my life here. The Australian wygu filet. Cooked perfectly. Started with the clam chowder which was delicious, you could tell it was homemade, the bacon and Brussel sprouts was rich and full of flavor. The espresso martinis were some of the best we have had. The ambiance is nice but not over the top. The service was top notch, our server made excellent food recommendations and took one of our party's food allergies seriously and made sure he was taken care of. Highly recommend this place! We will definitely return.

Food and service was excellent! Daniel, the lead on our wait staff was knowledgeable, friendly and on top of his game. Great place for a celebratory dinner.

We were in town visiting my grandmother and our Aunt was raving about this place. She treated me and my sister's to dinner here. This restaurant was amazing. Everything from the spirits to the appetizers to the main course, it was delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip was some of the best I ever had. Be prepared to spend some coin tho, place is expensive, but you get what you pay for and I loved every bite. I cannot wait to go back and visit my Grams just to eat at this place again.

The Buckhorn is an excellent steakhouse in Winters, CA. They have the best bread ever. Very, very good steak and prime rib! The BUCKHORN offers the best in steaks. They bake their own loaves of bread right there. The bread is simply divine. There is a full bar where some patrons wait and also an outside seating area. Reservations are definitely recommend for busy times. A reservation here does not save your spot if you are late though, so make it by your appointed time. You typically spend between 1-2 hours here. Birthdays are frequently celebrated here and they offer a complimentary piece of ice cream coffee cake that is enough for 6 to share. You can call ahead and order a balloon if you desire. They tell you the cost. The steaks, chicken, fish, NE clam chowder and bread are excellent. In fact, everything is great. We are here just this evening and someone was having difficulty choosing between two excellent soups. The waiter offered to bring out a cup of each type instead of a bowl of one type! Unfortunately the bread and soup/salads are so delicious that we often end up taking our main meal home but it’s excellent the next day too! The ambience is unique with stuffed heads of various animals hanging on the walls. There are 2 big dining rooms and booths are available as well as tables. The waiters and waitresses are all very knowledgeable and friendly. You will get great service here. If you encounter a rare problem, simply contact the manager and they will make it right! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BUCKHORN! You will not be disappointed! They don’t have their own parking lot but there is street parking and a lot across the street. It is very handicapped convenient except the Women’s restroom door is very heavy! (Can’t comment on the Men’s!). If my review is helpful please leave me a thumbs up! Thank you. God Bless!

Good filet, excellent roadhouse onions, good experience. Loved the old-school American flag, just 48 stars...

Buckhorn is a great gem in Winters. Our experience (spring ‘22) has been that reservations are helpful but not really needed for a couple. The steaks are fantastic of course, but there are also some great appetizers, cocktails, and wine. We’ve had the filet, the bone-in ribeye (my favorite), and the prime rib and have no complaints! The calamari and BREAD (serving size is massive) are also our go-to’s! Casual vibe and reasonably priced. Would recommend!

Enjoyed the atmosphere, our server was helpful and efficient and friendly. She took excellent care of us. We had some appetizers and drinks. Ordered dinner, everyone’s food was hot and cooked to perfection. We had a great experience. Look forward to dining here again soon!

Had such a great time here. Party of four, separate checks no problem. Our Waiter was the best! The cocktails were Delicious, Salad was also fresh and fast. When the Entrees arrived I totally forgot to take pictures. It was the best rack of Lamb, perfectly cooked. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I took one picture of the placemat and one of the salad.

We ordered the Tomahawk steak, which was perfectly charred on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. Wow, it was so delicious 😋 we got it with black garlic compound butter and chimichurri. It was shared between 3 people and took some of it home. The dog gets the bone and will be so happy.

The food and the service were both excellent. The place has an old-school ambiance and many deer hanging on the walls. My wife particularly loved the sourdough bread.

The place is good. No one can deny that. We've been coming to this place for years. We had Valentines day dinner here. Ordered the filet mignon and lobster. The lobster was the size of a shrimp. That's no exaggeration. Totally not worth $85 dollars. Had to go to in-N-out afterwards to fill up.

We had an amazing experience celebrating my birthday here. The food was excellent, and our online reservation request for a booth was honored. Nathan, our server, was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the chef and staff were all welcoming and attentive. A perfect 10/10 for a privately owned steakhouse.

Buckhorn Steakhouse absolutely lived up to the hype. The food and drinks were incredible, my steak was cooked perfectly, exactly how I ordered it, tender and full of flavor. And I have to say, their espresso martini was one of the best I’ve ever had! Smooth, rich, and dangerously good. Everything from the quality to the overall experience was top notch. Definitely a must stop in Winters, and I can’t wait to come back!

The greatest service and management I have ever experienced. Buckhorn Steakhouse is one of my favorite local, family-owned businesses to support. The staff is attentive, friendly, and professional, making every visit a truly enjoyable experience. The care they put into both their food and service makes it clear that they value their customers and community. I highly recommend supporting this gem in Winters.

I have been going to the Buckhorn for years, literally decades. They have fantastic food and a fun atmosphere. The full service bar serves food if you have difficulty finding a seat without reservations. If you want a table with full service, you better make those reservations because it's a popular place and it was packed the night I went with my wife. The Buckhorn put Winters on the map as a top-notch steakhouse and many other fine restaurants have sprung up around it, riding the Buckhorn's coattails. If you happen to find yourself in Winters, treat yourself to a meal at the Buckhorn. It's not the cheapest and you can expect to spend $25+ per person but you'll love your meal.

Perfection on all levels! Large party event that was executed beyond my expectation. From the food to the service to the ambiance, everything was perfect. Thank you staff for an incredible experience!

This is one of our favorite steakhouses to come eat. Our food and cocktails are always on point. We have come here a couple of years. Before they would give you complimentary sourdough bread, so good!! After covid they no longer offer that but it is avaliable for purchase. Service was good and the fact that they are able to taolor your drinks to accommodate to make them skinny is awesome!

This is our third or fourth time coming to the Buckhorn, over the course of the last several years. We’re out-of-towners but the decent menu prices and consistently good food always brings us back. The bread is excellent, warm & fluffy with delicious whipped butter on the side. The wedge salad is fresh and crisp, quite possibly one of the best wedges I’ve ever eaten. The truffle parm fries are bomb. The Cajun steak bites are perfect for our teens. The adults always order the bone-in ribeye. Unfortunately this time, our steak was cooked medium, not medium rare per our request. It was Father’s Day, and we already waited a while for our food so we didn’t want to mention the discrepancy and have to wait even longer for a new steak. Another blunder was our party was seated in the corner window and it was swarming with flies. It was quite annoying. A fly was wedged between our plate and asparagus- it was a turn off but we just removed it and carried on. Aside from that, it’s a great steakhouse, I highly recommend!

We made reservations & were sat in a back room off of the bar area that was dimly lit. Our waitress was amazing. Very attentive & kind. The food was delicious however, I was disappointed that I paid $25.00 for such a tiny piece of lobster.

Gosh I hate to post anything less then a 5 for one of our favorite Anniversary spots for dinner, the service and atmosphere was great as always. The Buckhorn has a lot of hunting trophies on the walls, a great bar area and a nice high ceiling dining room. The steaks were awesome as in the past but it looks like they've trimmed the menu of some red meat options. The $13 Margaritas were bland and small enough that we had to ordered a third one for my wife and I (Casa Ramos for large & tasty ones👍) and the Ceasar Salad was large but tasteless. Winters is a great small farming community but it is growing with the outflow from the Bay area, it's always a delight to visit, parking is good but the downtown does get busy and they do dress the town up for the season, worth the drive to visit.

Place is always busy, you definitely need a reservation. Outdoor seating is available. Food was good. I recommend artichoke dip 10/10

The place is nice but loud. Waiting time was about 25 minutes. They took like another 25 minutes to get our food. But the bread is delicious with butter is delicious and the food is great. I got the char roasted sirloin and it was On point!!!! Simply delicious. Their pie is really good too. Not too rich so it's easy to finish the whole thing.

Service was great! Very attentive and seemed to care. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and they offered us a complimentary dessert! The drinks were delicious and the food was nice. We shared the tomahawk for two with a side of Mac and cheese. I've had better elsewhere but also worse. Their sauce selection for the steaks was great, the gorgonzola one was delicious.

V

Food was delicious! You have to buy bread and salad separately instead of with your order/complimentary. It's still worth the money. Char roasted tri tip is the best. Update: we came here again for my boyfriend's birthday. Bianca was our server and she's the BEST. She was so kind, helpful, generous, and attentive. She noticed our medium rare tri tip was cooked too long and fixed it right away. Nothing but good things to say about her. Thank you so much for making my boyfriend's birthday dinner one of the best nights ever.

Tasty and nice portions. Order the halibut 3 star $45 it was okay a little dry . Surf and turf 4 star $35 better taste and value. 5 star And my favorite and biggest portion was the tri tip tarot tips

The lounge area, which was where we were for a private event, was cozy. It had a lodge kind of vibe to it. My drinks were well made. The appetizers were tasty. They prepared a charcuterie board that looked amazing. Beings steakhouse, I doubt they will have vegetarian options I would order, so I can't say I would return for a meal. It is a good location to host a chill event.

The OG! This place has been there forever 😏 It's not a top notch steakhouse but a NICE place to eat! The quality is great and everything is prepared well, but slightly overpriced for what you get. The adjacent bar offers a more casual atmosphere and feels warmer and less crowded. It's still, imo, the number one choice in Winters for a great place to eat. Friendly and well trained staff. The wine selection was a bit disappointing, considering the push to more upscale these days. Nothing impresses me more than a place that has great pairings for all their dishes and a wide selection between affordable, great and top of the line...hard to find🤷‍♂️...but the staff did the best with what was available. I'll be back🤗

Have eaten here 3 times and generally has been good, but tonight's visit was disappointing. Here's a summary: wine choice was good - paid $42 for a $30 bottle, a good price and reasonable markup - 5 stars. Bread was OK, but not worth $5...comes complimentary at most other restaurants- 3 stars. Calamari appetizer was excellent. Tender, plentiful, and tasty - 5 stars. Feature of the day, a $42 boneless NY Strip steak. Can honestly say it was one of the worst steaks I've had in recent memory. Very tough, chewy, and wasn't able to finish even half of it (nor did I want to). Shared my opinion with the server who said he would pass on to the chef, but still charged me full price. 🤷‍♂️ Steak - 1 star; service 2/3 stars. Overall a disappointing visit given the hefty bill at the end. Was hoping for more.

Waiter seemed to be annoyed by our presence. Our empty plated piled up on the table because nobody cleared them as nee food was brought out. A 20 percent gratuity was added to our party of 7 but their written policy is parties of 8 or more. The burgers were so undercooked the buns soaked through. The Filet Mignon and other steaks were very good. The bake potato soup is normally good but tonight it tasted like greasy gravy.

E
Eric McMiller

The original buckhorn's! It is certainly a restaurant. The only real steakhouse in the area. I can't say I like it very much, but I'm one of "those people" who would rather fire up the grill at home and make something better at home. They would be a 4 or 5 star if the sides were better and if the steak was cooked more consistently. I always ask for medium rare but don't always get it.

C
Claudia Lopes

I would say... only come here for cocktails. Otherwise, you are paying so much money for small portions, like SEVERELY overpriced. We had ordered seared scallops (said a shared dish) we recieved 3 scallops for $16...I could have bought a pound of scallops and smeared some Gerber butternut squash and burnt (burnt) butter on a plate for the same price. If you see the picture, we had split one scallop already. So, we paid about $5.25 per scallop. Yikes! Then what was most upsetting was we ordered the tomahawk steak, which portion and flavor wise was great, and you get your choice of potatoes along with a vegetable. However, we ordered the steak medium rare and was VERY RAW. Not only was it raw, but the pwrcent of fat cap to meat was LARGELY disproportionate. I'm talking about 40% meat and 60% fat. Don't get me wrong, I love a good amount of fat. However, it was just too much fat, even for me... That being said, if you like overpaying for a gimic... come here. Just get cocktails because they are the only thing worth the price. They were tasty and well-balanced. And our server was fast, jind friendly and warm. It was just unfortunate that our food didn't lice up to the reputation.

Only reason we choose to eat at Buckhorn is because the food is always so amazing. We took our son to eat here for his birthday and between the server/people bringing out food no one was friendly. When the server first brought out some food we asked for some dressings and she showed she was very irritated with us. We didn’t ask for anything from her after that. My wife got up to get her own drinks from the bar and lemons just so the server didn’t get annoyed. Even the bar tenders seemed annoyed when she asked if she could have some lemons. That was also the last time we went to that area as well. I think service has gone down since tips are now just expected. We spent a lot of money only to help ourselves. It’s expected to have a great experience when going to a restaurant with higher priced food. I would rather get my food to take home than eat at the restaurant. So if you’re expecting good service I wouldn’t because it was a majority of the staff that weren’t friendly. If we could choose where the tip went I’d have given it to the cooks as the food is always great.

I struggled with posting this review because Buckhorn has been part of my life growing up in Winters. It's been many years since my husband and I dined at Buckhorn so we decided to go after wine tasting across the street. My husband ordered the steak & lobster special ($72) and I ordered the rack of ribs. Before placing the order, my husband specifically asked the waiter how the chef recommends the steak to which he replied "medium rare", so my husband went with that. The steak came back almost well done and my ribs were so dry that I could barely eat them. I had to ask for bbq sauce even though sauce was supposed to be included in the menu item. What a disappointing experience! Unfortunately, my local Winters favorite will not be on our dining list any longer.

B
Bryan Torres

I went last night and had an uncomfortable experience. Our waitress seemed to not come to our table as often as she would with the other parties around us. Multiple times she would skip our table and check up on the other tables around us. There was even a few times, she would make eye contact with us, and just turn around to ask another table what they needed. She honestly just gave a way better service to the white parties than to us. If you are a person of color I would strongly advise you do not eat here.
