Wish they were close to my home. I'd love to try their outdoor wood pizzas on Wednesday night. The regular menu items are wonderful. I've been here with a group of 20 for 5 years so we have tried everything!

Delicious carefully grown organic vegetables, like wild arugula, along with amazing Italian dishes, make this an incredible place to eat. Wednesday nights are especially awesome, as Wednesdays are brick oven pizza night and the toppings are unlike any other! We had a fantastic experience there and I would highly recommend giovanni’s!!!

Stopped here for dinner on my way to Soyuzivka. The food is excellent, the presentation is excellent, the atmosphere is homey and comfortable, the piano playing with jazz and the singing of Cole Porter songs while eating dinner was pleasant and relaxing.

If you are looking for some authentic Italian food and disconnecting from the world, this is the best place to visit. The chef himself ( Giovanni ), takes a round around the restaurant to talk to guests. He prepares everything by himself. The food is super authentic and the staff is very friendly. Chicken Marsala - 9/10 Egg plant parmesan - 10/10 ( Please make sure you specify that you need spaghetti by the side ) Sautéed broccoli with Garlic - 10/10 Italian Risotto cake - 9/10

It’s not what it seems from the outside. Makes you kinda skeptical but we’ve been wanting to go for a while now. The food is outstanding. The atmosphere takes your mind off of whatever you were thinking about. The staff is very friendly and the owner is very nice. It’s now one of our favorite places. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and a Budweiser, mozzarella sticks as appetizer, chicken parm and eggplant parm for diner(comes with bread and house salads) and mascarpone cheese. Total was an unbeatable $85. The way the eggplant was made is exactly how I like it. Thin, not greasy, just the right amount of much cheese. It’s not a fancy place but makes you feel at home.

A local favorite and hidden gem. This family owned resturant has a rustic interior. Dining outside garden is beautiful with grape vines to give you shade. Their wood fire pizza oven makes the most amazing pizza. The pizza oven is outside and the owner prides himself on rolling the homemade dough to create his mouth watering pizzas. Life simply can't get any better than this.

My friends and I were there for one of the last "pizza nights" of the season. And oh wow, the mushroom pie was absolutely the tastiest pizza I've ever had. I'm not kidding as I'm spoiled by NYC pizza places which are supposed to be the best in the world. I stand corrected and I think the pizza chef is Giovanni himself. Fantastico!

R

We have been here for pizza plenty of times and it is absolutely the best in the whole area. This year we went for their 7 fishes dinner. The portions were perfect and the price was very reasonable, the tables were spaced well even though it was full we didn't feel closed in.

Good ambience, great food. Brick oven pizza on Wednesdays in the summer. Outdoor dining is super nice. Take your time to enjoy the food and company, but this isn't a place to go when you are in a rush or starving :-)

What a great little gem . The food was superb! The only thing that could clean up around the grounds a bit mow and take down some messy shrubs. We drove past it the first time looked almost like an abandoned building. The food was great and the workers were very friendly served like a high end restaurant but very reasonable prices. Would recommend this to anyone looking for good Italian food

C

Very few places actually cook food- most thaw & microwave but not this place! I am amazed at the great prices for fresh food cooked to perfection. I love the light jazz on the piano, as it makes this place feel truly welcoming. Each time I go I feel as if I was invited to an Italian home for a Sunday Feast! This is also a place where you can bring your entire family & not go broke or feel out of place if the kids are talking. The service is always nice; no one is ever perfect but these girls do the best each & every time I go. Always smiling & always giving you the daily specials. The place may not look like a Vegas Showroom, but it is very homey inside & more than that THEY WELCOME & APPRECIATE you.

It saddens me that I moved away from this location because THIS is real Italian food I can eat all the time! Pizza is to die for and their other dishes are delicious. I recommend this place to everyone who heads up that way and encourage them to stop in, I'm about an hour away but that doesn't stop me from going in from time to time.

HudsonValley Gems

To dismiss this dine-in experience with an old rustic appearance would be missing out on arguably one of the best restaurants in Hudson valley on a variety of fronts - food, genuinely warm and attentive service, and a sense of nostalgia that exudes the walls of this place for even those of us who don't know the history. Starting with food - mussels Fra diavolo, chicken picatta, with the mussels cooked to perfection. Their cannolis are just the best we have ever had. Oh - I almost forgot the Irish coffee. If we are lucky the owner and cook - essentially Robert De Niro in disguise with a beard, will saunter through the dining room and talk to us. It is "love at first sight" regardless of our gender identification, with this warm and gentle soul whose secret for long life is "hard work and wine". There are a few places in Hudson valley, tucked away hidden gems that have survived the test of time and general economic malaise that is hard to miss despite the predominant natural beauty of mountains and the green. Giovanni's inn is certainly right on top - and the fact that it has been there for over 30 years is evidence of both the quality and dining experience, not to mention the sheer grit to survive so many years. And we learned they make Pizzas on Wednesdays and Thursdays in a wide open space within the premise on brick ovens made by the owner himself. We are going back for the Pizzas.

Giovanni‘s inn is quite a unique and kitschy place went there for dinner with my love and we had an excellent time soon as we walked in we greeted warmly. The atmosphere almost has a hunting club/Woody design almost like an old backwoods , Italian restaurant , even though we did not make a reservation, which you have that option we were seated immediately. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and continually checked on us. We had the mushroom ravioli, the shrimp Parmesan it’s spaghetti and for dessert we had lemon blueberry mascarpone cake, and mini cannolis. It was all so delightful. The atmosphere is Amber and Rich with conversation and good feelings the food was excellent and the owner and the cooking staff would even come out and were friendly and talk to everyone. A very family, friendly vibe definitely love the quaintness of this place a must try.

Our friends highly recommended this restaurant to us, so we went on our 3 months wedding anniversary :D It’s so small and we passed it…..but it’s really a hidden gem. We love the warm environment, indoor and outdoor. Afternoon we saw the wood fire brick oven, we totally fell in love with this restaurant. We ordered the salad and mussels as appetizer. Well, salad was salad, good salad, but still just salad. Mussels are really good, yummy yummy. But, wait, what we love the most is pizza!! After we ordered two pizza: margarita and customized topping pizza, we even ordered another to go because they were so so so good. And finally, house made cheese cake and Bumba (do I spell right?) as desserts….perfect. Since we went on Wednesday, there was only pizza available. We’d like to go back again on other days to try their other foods. Anyway, they have the best pizza we have ever had in Orange County, no, in NYS, no, in the States so far (Note: I have been to 40 out of 50 states so far). So, highly highly recommended.

Looking at my first review of Giovanni’s I can’t believe it was 6 years ago we first stumbled upon this place, loved it then love it now. We are from NYC and have been coming back as often as we can. Wonderful old school Italian, great warm rustic atmosphere, authentic food and great service. This is a real gem in the Catskills that could hold its own in NYC’s Little Italy! My favorite dishes are the veal parmigiana, tender, a large portion with a big side of pasta, the eggplant parmigiana melts in your mouth, the mussels marinara are fresh and succulent served with garlic bread, the broth is amazing, we return the plate clean every time! Everything is always fresh, plentiful and very reasonable. For 3 of us it’s under $100, can’t beat that! Sadly, COVID ended the live singing every Saturday night, but that doesn’t change the great food, drinks and reasonable prices. Oh and in the summer Wednesday is Pizza night, you will find Giovanni in the outdoor garden at the brick pizza oven cooking up pies all night, fantastic pizza!

After 7 years of living in Wurtsboro we finally went here! We ordered pizzas and went kayaking at the Bashakill. The pizza was good so we got more the next day 😁 We also had the chicken piccota dinner option hoping we could share it but it wasn’t enough. We will definitely be coming back for the pizza and to try other items from the menu.

I could not find any fault in my dinner at Giovanni’s last night. The service was TOP tier and the food was amazing. We went with a large party of 9 and the staff catered to our every need, despite a full dining room when we arrived. We had everything pizza night had to offer: clams, mussels, antipasto, pizzas of all kinds and a few desserts. Every single item was perfection! (And trust me, we are big foodies and have eaten at almost everywhere local and beyond) I ate my entire sausage and arugula pie by myself with no shame. By the end of the meal I asked my husband why he “doesn’t bring me there once a week” ha! It’s a lovely family restaurant with unique decor that gives you that true old school- Inn-feeling. Great job by the whole team!

Great hole in the wall restaurant. The entire staff is super friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing. Veal parm was mouthwatering. Simply amazing. The atmosphere, the staff, the food...all incredible. Do not let the location or exterior fool you, this is a top class institution. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is very warm, welcoming, and comfortable. You are immediately greeted by friendly and professional staff who make you feel as though your business is genuinely appreciated. The food wait is not long, but even if it were, it would be completely worth every second. From the appetizers straight through until desert, every dish is incredibly well planned and prepared. The flavors were out of this world, no matter how cliche that may sound. I would have never really expected to find a dining experience of this caliber out here, but alas here it is. I would recommend Giovanni's to anyone and everyone.

Drove past there, many times, but never went in so after reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh! Definitely going back!! We would definitely recommend this to family and friends!!!

Friends of mine had taken me out to dinner Saturday night. I thought it was going to be another Italian restaurant that was run of the mill. Boy I was shocked. Cute decore and pretty basic menu but very well executed. We had a great time it reminds me of a place I worked in as a kid. The only thing I was kind of disappointed in was I didn’t get a chance to see that wood fired oven. The piano player and the singer were great and I felt at home. The hours are great to 5-9 pm. Don’t think the service could have been better. Also love the Duke. Thanks for a memorable experience.

Randomly found this place, decided to check it out. Not much to look at on the outside. The inside is cozy but doesn't match an Italian restaurant and could use some upgrades. Driving by you may not think Giovanni's is open. Stopping is well worth it. Upon entering you step back in time. Its a warm nostalgic atmosphere. The wait staff are friendly and accommodating. A wonderful basket of bread is served with dinner. And the food is fantastic.a must visit if you love Italian food.

This place is literally a shack in the middle of the woods. It’s uninviting but once you walk in it’s one of the more interesting interiors of an Italian restaurant you’ll ever see. It’s decorated like a hunting lodge with Deer heads everywhere. It’s pretty much the opposite of what you’d expect an Italian restaurant to look like. To take it one step stranger there was a live piano player. The food is decent. It’s classic Italian dishes. The portions are a little small. The service was very slow.

Good food, a large selection of options on the menu, and a country charm like nowhere else. And a piano player and saloon singer from the Golden Age of songwriting. This place is fun!

A hidden gem in upstate! We stumbled upon Giovanni's Inn on Google during our double date staycation and were blown away. The cozy atmosphere set the tone for a lovely evening, and the service was warm and attentive. But the real star was the food - absolutely delicious! Our dinner experience was a wonderful surprise, and we left feeling full and content. If you're in the area, don't miss this charming spot! 4.5/5 stars!

Overrated. Very dark and filthy. Two many ugly waitresses, small servings and maybe 6 pieces of mushrooms on a pizza for a fortune. Really disappointed.

My husband and I went to giovanni's on pizza night. The pizza was okay. Could have been better. The service is always great, I asked for just a little bit of soda, not a full glass They came back with a full glass of soda. I told the girl that's not what I ordered. I just wanted a little bit just to wash down the rest of my pizza. She said, this is what they gave me when I got my check. I was very surprised to see they charged me for a.Refill. I did not even drink the . I took a sip, literally a sip and left the rest of the soda and got charged . I work in the restaurant industry. I have never charged my guess for A Refill, even if they drink four or five drinks never do I charge for a refill. Needless to say was very disappointed next time I'll bring my own soda.

Food was delicious !!!!! ..service was not good....plus the waitress was rude and had a attitude. It took 3 hours to have a complete meal. Its really a shame how a great chef and food can be ruined by the service. They asked if we wanted dessert..before our meal was even served..

We ate outside and it was local which I liked. The grape vines were nice, but plastic chairs and super limited menu with frozen pizza as a main entree which took a really long time to come out, which I didn't mind because I was outside and surrounded by grape vines which was relaxing. The menu was class muscles pig on fig? And 2 frozen pizza. Pina colada was delicious and garden salad was light with 1 cherry tomato and a small handful of greens.

Went there on a Saturday evening with a group of friends for a birthday. For starters the singer was rude. She was very angry and giving us dirty looks because one of the children from our group was having fun (3 years old). She even loudly commented "that little girl is crazy". To make the situation worse, it took the staff 1.5 hours to bring our dishes. WILL NEVER REPEAT PERIOD.

Very disappointing. I’ve been here before and thought very highly of them. Not so anymore. Calamari was the smallest I’ve ever had. Very bland chicken Marsala with a speck of pasta with it. Shrimp fra diavola was not good, couldn’t eat most of the muscles with again a minuscule amount of pasta. Won’t be going here again.

They ruined Valentine’s Day weekend by losing our reservation and did nothing to help or accommodate us. UPDATE: I understand and sympathize that there is restricted seating, however I made the reservation for Saturday, and there must have been a mix up because I was told it was for Sunday when I arrived. We were offered to sit at the bar, but this is not exactly what I had in mind for Valentine's Day. We were left to try and find a place to eat Saturday night of Valentine's day weekend without much sympathy from the staff. Everywhere was booked up leaving us out to dry.

Last time I was there, the server sat us down and literally never came back. We got drinks and then waited almost an hour before getting up and leaving.

Locals from Wurtsboro. We wanted to try their Wednesday pizza night. What a big disappointment. Our server never showed up too busy catering to a table of 12. We ordered vegetable skewers probably the size of my pinky with old lettuce. An hour passed by no drinks, no bread, no accommodations and no pizza. We walked right out of the restaurant. Please re-train your staff to provide good service to your customers!

Terrible food, portions, and prices. $30 for chicken alfredo with what tasted like frozen, bland, unseasoned chicken. Not even salt & the consistency of the sauce is like water. Highly disappointed and would’ve been more satisfied at home with jar sauce. Even the soda they couldn’t get right - flat and no syrup. Really disappointing experience.
