Best place to eat fish! When Doc Fish is the cook the dinner's success is sure!! Great people all around!
A charming place whose chef knows how to coax the best from seafood. Bring a nice bottle of wine and you'll be happy as a clam.
Great food, expanded menu. You cannot neat the Free Jazz that is offered on the Weekend!
Best restaurant for you and for me
BYOB and great seafood menu daily. Quaint, hidden gem well worth the walk just over the BQE overpass.
Small seafood restaurant, a gem in Brooklyn. Fantastic food, BYOB!
Such a great little find for French food. Their salmon burgers are smack ya momma good!!!
This place is the best - it's cozy and the food is perfect. The Bass Thai Curry is for sure a highlight.
Charming, quirky little seafood spot with fresh, delicious food. Bring your own wine
Such a cute date spot! They serve up fresh fish and they're BYOB too!
The food and the service were amazing. We will definitely be back.
A quaint, old style restaurant serving a trendy crowd. Delicious food, great service
Excellent seafood. Lovely environment and service.
A hidden gem. Might be the best seafood in Brooklyn. Diver scallops are the best.
One of the freshest seafood places with the sweetest family behind it! + byob
the host was very nice and the creamy seafood soup is a must have!!
Wonderful food and a fantastic, funny hostess. 10/10 would come again.
good seafood, cozy environment. Will definitely go again.
Love this place. Great seafood. One time I arrived when the kitchen was closing, so I asked the chef to just improvise some leftovers. It was delicious.
Cozy charming atmosphere, incredible steak and fish (bass) and chips. BYO alcohol (wine store across the street.) highly recommend!
A perfect spot to step inside and feel like you’ve been taken away to another time or place. Live jazz on weekends at 7pm, extravagant wine, delicious oysters and lobster rolls. It’s a vibe.
Petite Crevette has been in the neighborhood for 11 years which, surprisingly, makes it a relative newcomer in an area with restaurants that have been there since the 1970s. But in that time it's managed to develop a reputation as being one of the best seafood restaurants in Brooklyn. Chef, Neil Ganic, has been honing his brilliance with seafood for decades and it shows. Don't expect a white linen restaurant. Petite is a bistro in the southern European tradition... small tables, crowded rooms, bric-a-brac decor. The food is the star, from the sumptuous lobster cioppino to the fresh catch of the day to perhaps the best salmon in the city. Fish isn't your thing? No problem. He also makes outstanding skirt steaks, burgers and chicken dishes, all served with great sides. My recommendation is to start with fried oysters and take it from there. Petite is also BYOB so it's an economical meal as well.
Excellent food at a fair price-- The owner of the restaurant makes you feel at home and provides great service and food quality. My favorite dish is the crusted salmon-- which is incredible for an intimate high quality fish restaurant, this is the place to be--
Food is always delicious. I like that the menu doesn’t change. They have perfected those dishes and they are great every time.
This is a nice cozy spot to have dinner. The food was delicious. Only bad part was they did not have fried calamari which i love as an appetizer.
This is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I think the location is not good but the chef is on point. Great food. Highly recommended if you live in the area.
Absolutely love this place. Small French seafood bistro serving delicious dishes in a friendly atmosphere and very reasonably priced. Great for dates!
Excellent seafood restaurant. Dishes were awesome. Service was great. Make sure to stop a at the flying lobster wine bar next door.
Delicious food (we had the oysters, the shrimp po boys, and key lime pie for dessert) and such warm, wonderful service! I would definitely come back.
I'm not a big fish eater. This was excellent. The waiter was charming and talked us through the menu, great atmosphere, fabulous food.
The chowder here is out of this world, as is almost every other fish option on the menu. It's BYOB, which makes it really affordable. Love this place.
Small, but highly effective. Authentic French. Felt that I was transported to Provence. an existential experience, tour d’force, and plain old good Eats in the Franch country cuisine line
Food was incredible. Cutest restaurant ever. I never post reviews but had to for this one. Great little spot.
We had the Cioppino, roasted sea bass, tuna carpaccio, and fried oysters. Among the best sea food I've had anywhere! Be advised that it is cash only and BYOB.
Great meal and service plus no crowd to deal with. This place is a gem especially during the week. Also very kid friendly.
Delicious food everything was amazing and staff have a great customer service, my new favorite spot
Tiny place with no ambiance but the best seafood. Somewhat expensive but BYOB keeps cost reasonable. Love it!
My husband loves seafood and he insists to come to this restaurant all the time even though we need to drive almost 30 min with a baby.
Just an amazing hidden jem in NYC. Brooklyn at its finest. GREAT food, service and price. Can't wait to get back there my next trip east
Great place. Great Service. A truly special restaurant. BYOB 5$ corkage fee.
Wonderful place. The service is lovely and food delicious. I go there all the time and it never disappoints. Very good value too
What a great restaurant! Had dinner here last night with my family. We tried so many items from the menu and everything delivered. Neil, the owner, chatted with us. Great food, great atmosphere. And not overly expensive!!
The food, the service and the vibe were great here. Got the seabass and when my partner mentioned she was vegetarian, the host immediately offered to make a vegetarian version of a Thai curry. There was a great jazz band and we stayed a little after just soaking up the atmosphere without feeling rushed. Highly recommend for a local, relaxed, seafood night in the summer!
So fun and quirky. I loved this place! When the 'hip' places have all become boring and monotonous to you, go to the Petite Crevette. It feels like such a classic, with good food, oddball service, quirky atmosphere, and BYOB. There is a wine store right around the corner, pick up a nice bottle and settle in. Highly recommend this place, but go with the proper expectations.
I discovered this restaurant while listening to the pop up jazz band at the bar next door. There was a steady stream of patrons so I decided to check it out for myself. Wow! Best salmon filet in Brooklyn! They’ve done a lovely job creating a nice outdoor ambience. I felt like lingering for hours. I will most definitely come again.
Dependable...consistently excellent food! Love bringing friends from overseas here…it’s the kind of cozy, friendly neighborhood place people think of as “Very New York“ but rarely exists anymore. In a former flower shop. Great atmosphere and génial service.
Amazing! Everything cooked and seasoned to perfection! Nice place in Red hook Columbia st waterfront area! Started w the tuna carpaccio which was lite refreshing and had the sea bass entree a d my wife had the scallops. Our waiter Sebastian was pleasant and made us feel right at home. Best food experic we had I. a while. Thank you everyone at Petite Crevette! See ya soon!
I went to eat here last night with my family. We ordered a variety of dishes between the mustard salmon the lobster and the burger. Everything tasted amazing. The staff makes you feel like family. Definitely put this place on your list of must eats.
Yesterday my friend & I were in the mood for some seafood. We decided to check out a little place called Petite Crevette. The inside decor was very homey & the gentlemen who served us shared wonderful history about Union Street. My friend & I ordered an appetizer of fried oysters, and for the main course a salmon & tuna burger respectively. The fish was fresh & delicious!!! We also really enjoyed the wasabi dipping sauce for the fries. Would recommend to friends & come back in the future. Five Stars! :-D
Tiny, crowded, loud, delicious, cash only We went on a Saturday about 730. They don't take reservations and dinner is worth the wait. I had Cioppino which was wonderful. Regulars told me the whole fish specials are always great but seeing the lobster in the Cioppino at the neighboring table (which was about 3in away) I had to have it. I am glad we found this place for our dinner out without the kids while in NYC.
This is a small seafood restaurant that has been serving the same menu at a reasonable price for over 10 years. I have been going to this place since they opened and Neil used to handle all the cooking. You don't see him in the kitchen these days, but he is always around to make sure everything is right. I want to give this restaurant 5 stars for being what a true neighborhood joint is. They do a few things right and they stick with it. Once you go there a few times you will see what I'm talking about especially if you live around the area. Don't forget to bring your own wine. :)
Snuck in last minute on a Wednesday night, thoroughly enjoyed our selections and the warm and cozy vibe. Can see it getting even warmer when it’s packed haha. Great experience, can’t wait to come back and try more classics
Every dish we tried was delicious and love the chill/old school vibe and that it’s byob
One of the best seafood restaurants in Brooklyn is also comparatively inexpensive. It helps to bring your own booze. (No need to bring a corkscrew. ) There's also a wine shop across the street. The place is full of character and characters.
Excellent seafood, service, & atmosphere. I can not wait to go back. Cozy and calm atmosphere. BYOB but also have a wine list now. Love this neighborhood gem.
This place is a hidden gem and a great option for anyone looking for a great date night spot with delicious seafood. It’s small and cozy, and the owner personally greeted us at the door, which immediately makes the experience feel special. Add in the fact that it’s BYOB with just a $10 uncorking fee, and it’s hard to beat. The crab and corn chowder was outstanding and one of the best soups we’ve had in a long time. The salmon and sea bass were both great dishes. Needless to say we found a new favorite spot!
I am transported to the south of France here and I’ve never even been there. This place is so lovely, the food is incredible. I loved every moment we were here. Don’t hesitate, just come. And bring wine. You won’t regret it! There was no wait on a Saturday night, we just walked in. I know I’ll be back.
The food here is incredible. It's a small restaurant but the food and service are absolutely fantastic. You can also bring your own alcohol which is fantastic too!
We were in the neighborhood, and a friend recommended Petite Crevette for dinner. We absolutely devoured the bread with olive oil they brought to the table. We ordered the shrimp po boy, the shrimp provencal, and the beef burger. Even ordered more bread to sop up the extra sauce from the shrimp provencal. Our plates were clean by the end. Would highly recommend if you're in the area!
This place was amazing. The service was beyond excellent and so was the food. From the fish to the steak everything was great. My family left feeling full but not weighed down. Can’t wait to visit NY to eat here again!
Our family is a fan of Neil's restaurant. He cares very much that you have a superb experience. The staff is courteous and down-to-earth and extremely smart about their offerings. The price is affordable for us. Bring your own wine or beer: no corkage fee! We love the atmosphere. A gem in Carroll Gardens. Thank you, Neil!
Always eat everything way too quickly here because it's delicious. We've eaten here 4 times in a year and it's always amazing always fresh and I'm always impressed by the service and quality. Not sure what other people are talking about with regards to slow service. You have the option of tipping what you want to by clicking the custom option below the choices for tipping less than 20% if you're bothered by it. This place actually deserves it the 20%. Had a meal for 2 including dessert for $100 without tip, for this quality I'd easily have to spend double in Manhattan to get this quality without tip. If you haven't been here and love great fish it's a must go. Pro tip order key lime pie for dessert.
This is a little gem. Tucked away in Brooklyn is the "little shrimp" serving beautifully cooked food at sensible prices. Gladys dished up the best meal we have had in New York. It's a cozy little restaurant with a big hearted welcome serving up some seriously well cooked fish. You won't be disappointed.
Oh my goodness this was the best meal of our entire trip. I just googled seafood places close to where we were staying and this was one of them and I'm glad we settled on it. The food was beyond amazing. This is the first time we ordered separate entrée and tasted each others and then when we finished we ordered an entire new entrée because we wanted more. The scallops were cooked perfectly and so was the sea bass. The mashed potatoes were rich and creamy. The vegetables were crisp and flavorful. Each sauce that accompanied the entrée was perfectly paired. The chowder was velvety smooth and had a wonderful amount of crab. Our server was so sweet and attentive she made us feel like family as we talked about the city and our backgrounds. We will totally be back next time we visit.
Come early, try the attached wine bar. Neil the owner is quite the character, and you cannot go wrong with the Ciopino.
Great food and service. Reminds of the west village in the 1970's. Or a cafe of France or Provance.
Wonderful, BYOB spot off the BQE. Homey-french cuisine with a wine shop around the corner. Cash only!
Food is delicious and the restaurant is like a hideout away from home with a private chef. Must go!
Amazing food and very comfortable. Feels like you're at a great spot in Paris.
Go early or late to avoid long waits. BYOB, cash only, tiny place, but excellent fresh seafood and French cooking, with some attitude from the owners/servers. Go for the fresh whole fish. If in season, ask about soft shell crab! It's not always on the menu.
The food is the best I had in the neighborhood. The service is very nice too. And the price is fair. It can be better if they put more salt in the food (or maybe it's just my personal taste) and add a bit more interior decoration
A cozy neighbourhood that specializes in simple, but well executed seafood preparations. The cioppino is a nicely garlicky saffron tomato sauce. The mustard salmon is served with a buttery, veggies, and mashed potatoes. Starters of tuna carpaccio and a green bean salad were tasty.
Petite Crevette is a small, adorable, tucked-away-next-to-the-highway French seafood restaurant in Carroll Gardens. Its BYOB. Cash only. Romantic cozy spot. Looks like someone's living room turned to a restaurant. The night we dined, the owner was our waiter. The branzino was cooked so the flesh was tender, flakey, well seasoned. The buttery potatoes that arrived with the branzino were addictive and creamy. My cioppino was rich medley of tomatoes, wine and briny seafood juices. The half lobster was so satisfying. We left extremely happy and our stomachs were content. I can't wait to return to try more of their menu.
This place is charming, BYOB and cash only - you cannot go wrong with it! The food is amazing and filling, and the price is just right.
Good food (would've been 'great' if I hadn't ordered the salmon burger instead of the salmon) and BYOB (we were charged $5/bottle corkage)
neal ganic strikes again, first with bouillabaise, and now with pettite crevette. his curry's are some of the best in the city, and he always has fresh fish... cooked with attitude right in front of you.
They have The Best seafood chowder. Also, they just finished building street side out door dining, lots of room now in the open air.
This old time seafood restaurant was excellent. The food was well prepared and tasty, and the ambiance, staff and customers had a legitimate local feel. It's in a strange location where you wouldn't expect a business there - over and by a highway - but had clients the whole time we were there (regulars or returning customers I believe). The menu was tight with a moderate amount of very good options. We had a sea bass with curry which was perfectly thick and tasty and a skate filet with vegetables, following an Italian-style appetizer of tomatoes, salad and mozzarella. The only reason I'm marking it down as a 4/5 instead of 5/5 is that the space could use some improvement in lighting, it was a bit dark inside, almost like a pub. But the food and service were great and we will definitely return. The staff was very friendly and caring and accommodated us bringing a baby along despite the small amount of available space.
Solid seafood at reasonable prices in a low-key, cozy (aka tiny & packed) old-school place. The Bass Thai curry was surprisingly soupy, and the fried oysters should be avoided. The cioppino was pretty good, though, and the whole fish our neighbors were enjoying also looked great. One of our waitresses seemed to be having a pretty rough day. Expect BYOB+5 and cash only for what is good around here but doesn’t come close to what you can find in Astoria in the seafood domain.
Excellent well prepared fresh seafood at good prices. Branzino perfectly grilled. Fried oysters super. Special of pan fried sardines great. Service very Attentive. Our waitress knew the menu well and made great suggestions. BYOB factor is phenomenal
Solid and hearty. Only a step above your average chip shop, but the ingredients seem fresh and well sourced. Cash only. BYOB (few beverage options and no alcohol). $5 corkage fee. They also have dessert, which may come as a surprise to some.
We made a last-minute Valentine's Day reservation at a charming, boutique-style restaurant with a lovely, intimate atmosphere. It's a BYOB establishment, but a nearby wine store offered excellent pairing suggestions. We enjoyed delicious mussels, sea bass, and brazino dishes. I certainly plan to return.
My wife and I had an early dinner here and very much enjoyed our experience. The place is unique to say the least, and has a very old school vibe. There is limited seating, and it does seem to fill up quickly. The service was very friendly and very attentive. Also, it is BYOB which is very nice and keeps the cost of a dinner down. That being said there were a few downsides. First, even though they do not sell alcohol and the only option is byob, there is still a $5 corkage fee. This seems like a somewhat gratuitous charge. Second, and this is a pretty big deal for me, the place is cash only. I might accept a cash only policy at a coffee shop, or even a dive bar, but Petite Crevette is a not inexpensive restaurant. It is quite easy for two people to spend upwards of $100 on dinner. What year are we in that a restaurant does not accept a credit card? When you are spending this much at a place, that is kind of a deal breaker for me. Finally, while the food was good, it was not great. Everything we had was solid and well cooked, but not particularly impressive. Ultimately I think the byob and old school feel are the most attractive parts of Petite Crevette, but for the price I feel like we've had much better meals at other places, and the cash only policy is a big problem.
I love this spot but we unfortunately will have to stop going as every time we've gone with lactose intolerant friends recently, the server says there's no dairy and then immediately serves us butter. The amount of stomach aches this has caused is becoming problematic. Other servers at Petite Crevette have been extremely accommodating and subbed dairy products in the past, so we're aware that this is not an impossible ask, just requires more work which is no longer being accommodated.
The food was very good. The place is very relaxing to enjoy a tasty meal with your favorite wine. However, the hamburgers are not as thick as they used to be. That's very sad. The waiter did not pack the food right. He put my husband's food with mine all together. We had to throw it out when we got home. I think something has to change or they will lose costumers.
Food is just under par. Nothing special. Very over-hyped place. Simple cremini mushrooms dish was served cold (straight from the fridge). Main dishes were prepared in advance and reheated in the oven. Service was unobtrusive and waiter's too casual dress feels as if he is just another guest serving your food. First, it doesn't look hygienic and second, you don't want bother another guest that isn't working there for a glass of water or direction to bathroom. Some might like it, but I don't. Would be 1 star if not for the ambiance which is eclectic, cozy and warm.
Good ambiance, mediocre food, verbally abusive owner. Researched this place in advance, and, after being spoiled by the excellent seafood at "Kevin's" in Red Hook, came all the way from southern Brooklyn, expecting a similar high quality food and service. Found the food to be ok, the owner - verbally abusive (read to the end for the crazy lol). Cioppino. It was so so, scallops and shrimp in the soup were good, muscles - ok, the lobster tail in the soup was mushy and smelly. The soup base / broth was fine, slightly saltier and heavier, compared to what we had at "Kevin's". Seafood chowder - it was ok, not as thick and chunky as I like. It had a little too much broth and not enough of seafood / vegetables for my taste. Organic Greens with heirloom tomatoes - fine, a little heavy on the balsamic vinegar, which overpowered the taste of heirloom tomatoes. Grilled Swordfish special - ok, kind of small for $25+, somewhat hard (over-grilled) and not juicy. Now for the crazy part. The half lobster tail in the cioppino was marginally spoiled - the tail meat was mushy and had a strong taste. Look, this happens, so we discreetly gave that feedback to the waitress (didn't want another customer to get the other half of that lobster tail). So she calls what I assume is the owner (an older man), who comes and loudly proclaims - "so, I hear that you want more lobster?". We said, no thanks. He declares, "I am going to give you more lobster anyway". I go "no, the lobster is not fresh, and I don't want it" lol, so the guy disappears, then comes back and drops a live lobster on our table, yelling "is that fresh enough for you"? Then he yells again, so everyone can hear - there will be no charge for the dinner. We said - that's ok, we are not looking for a discount, he yells back "no charge anyway, that's not the kind of restaurant we run!". So I ran across the street to get cash, and meanwhile, the owner tells my wife, who is still sitting at the table - "yeah, sure, keep checking your phone all you want, you are getting a free meal here". We paid in full and left. A simple lesson for the owner- when a guest cares enough to discreetly give you honest feedback, don't be a d**k, keep your ego in check and don't cause a scene. We could have had a nice evening, even with the ok food, and you caused a loud confrontation and a negative review on Yelp. Next time for us, back to "Kevin's" on Van Brundt, for a nice service, far better chioppino and a really sophisticated seared tuna sandwich. (All this happened in the fall of 2017)
I don’t eat fish and seafood and got stuck with a merely ok burger. Was met with eye rolling when I tried for a slice of raw onion. Like it was my fault they didn’t have the steak. But I didn’t want to ruin things for my companions. They are keenly aware of this of course. Lousy ambiance and creepy lighting. And the owner just pretends to be French lol
I went to make an order with my breastfeeding toddler and while waiting for order to go through, my Toddler started to feed. The waitress saw me and told me to cover up. I left immediately. While leaving, I saw the same waitress discussing me with the cooks. Really disappointed.
The food is amazing … BUT … (1) service is inconsistent: it took 20 min after finishing our entree - and having cleared the table -before being asked if we wanted dessert. (2) they force you to tip on the taxes, not the cost of the meal. The options are 20%, 25%, 30% or no tip. There is no option for “custom tip”. My pre-tax bill was ~$82, with tax $96. The “20%” tip amount was 20% of 96, which is unethical particularly when there is no option to adjust it.
