Dong Baek Alameda Reviews
Rang Dong is an awesome spot if you're looking for affordable grub! One dish you absolutely have to try is their Bo Kho, it is incredibly yummy. This beef stew is packed with flavor, thanks to a slow-cooked broth loaded with spices like cinnamon, star anise, and lemongrass. It’s rich, savory, and just the right amount of spicy. The beef is super tender, practically melting in your mouth, and the broth is so fragrant it’ll have you hooked from the first bite. They serve it with either warm baguette slices or noodles ( had mine with noodles ), making it the perfect hearty meal. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and everything just tastes fresh and well-balanced. On top of the great food, the vibe at Rang Dong is cozy and welcoming, it is definitely a small mom and pop business, The staff is super friendly and attentive. Whether you’re there for a casual lunch or a laid-back dinner with friends, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to come back to. If you’re craving authentic Vietnamese, Rang Dong and their Bo Kho are totally worth checking out!
Haven't eaten at this venue for about 3 and a half years. I was happy to see it was still open. I came here for the PHO. As 3 and a half years ago it had the same great taste. Price increased but that was expected. I will continue to come here to this small venue everytime I come visit.
I almost gave up on Vietnamese food on the island. So many places with terrible food. Not fresh, not good quality. This little place is absolutely perfect. Good prices, good quality, good serving sizes and a very nice staff working here. We felt very welcomed right away and well taken care of. We sat in the window and ate like time didn't exist. What.a wonderful experience. And they have a parking lot :)
Happened here by chance and I’m glad I did. My beef noodle soup was delicate, flavorful and chock full of beef shank (which happens to be the ideal kind for this dish)
Good for Bun Rieu & Bun Bo Hue (pictured). 11/12/2022: Quick stop before heading to the Oakland Zoo. Ordered the Bun Rieu & Bun Bo Hue again. Same yummy taste; however, I've noticed that the noodles didn't have pork blood.
I had a craving for Banh Mi. My little bro told me about this spot. Well today I needed my fix, so I took a drive. As I walked in I was greeted by a very nice friendly and respectful lady who asked me to take a seat. So, I did right where there was a stack of menus and I grabbed one. I wanted to try different meats to see which one I liked the best. My brother wanted the shredded pork so I got one too. Then I ordered a chicken and a beef. I know that is a lot but I needed my fix! I hope you understand? LOL Yes I can eat especially when I crave something I have not had in a long time. I told the Lady I will wait outside in my truck and she said she would bring the food out to me. Is that sweet or what. The wait was not that long and she did bring the food out in a very professional and friendly manner. So, to me the service was very nice. Me and brother drove to our hangout and was getting sun and eating outside. Nice day. I tried the pork first which was very good and had some very hot green chile which I love. Then the chicken, again very good and tasty with that heat which I loved. I told my brother when I write the review I will use a word that I never use to describe food? I said I will use the word lovely. I told my brother these were some lovely sandwiches. LOL! I know that sounds funny but they were very lovely sandwiches! Lastly the beef, I preferred the other two. The beef for some reason did not have the heat and flavor as the pork and chicken but still good but not as good as the other two. The Banh Mi from this place all in all quenched my craving in a very nice way. So, well worth the trip and I will try other dishes when I have the craving for Vietnamese Food. My brother told me there are other dishes I should try like their pho. I recommend Rang Dong for their very nice service and very lovely Banh Mi! Alameda you have a hidden gem on your hands so show your support and go get some! Thank You Rang Dong! 5 Stars!!
Rang Dong Restaurant is where Pho Baguette used to be. It is located in Alameda, Neptune Plaza. I stopped in to get my favorite dish - the #33 - vermicelli with grilled pork and egg rolls. It also has a small salad of shredded lettuce, carrots, cucumber and daikon, and a little container of fish sauce. I always order the same menu item to go. I know I should switch up and order other items on their menu. Service is great, and the employees are friendly and helpful. Love this restaurant because it is within distance from my home.
Very friendly and nice my kids like it food is really good phở. Bún bó huế and rice plate will come back agian

After attending Saturday Mass with a friend, we decided to join a couple of ladies that go to Rang Dong's often. It was only a block away from Central Avenue and Webster. The vegetables were fresh and the soup broth was great, however the chicken was over cooked. I was in love with the fresh vegetables. I would go again to try something different next time.
This was my 3rd time going for Chicken Pho and I am never disappointed. Very tasty, friendly staff and super fast service.
The BEST chicken Banh Mi sandwich I've ever had! Also, pleasant atmosphere, comfortable, nice people.
This is one of my favorite places to get food in Alameda. Amazing pho, the broth is fantastic full of flavor and i instantly feel more alive. I get either the sliced rare beef or chicken noodle, both are delicious. Add a side of steamed veggies. Spring rolls and fresh rolls are yummy too. Huge portions, I leave full and usually with leftovers.

Walked in and made a to go order for 8 people. They are so kind and offered us to sit even though we were take out. We ordered at the register and were given water and a table while we waited. It was very fast service as they made the food fresh. The place had many customers and their service was excellent. The food and drinks we ordered were fresh, delicious and made correctly. We ordered 4 grilled pork Bahn mi sandwiches that had fresh bread and plenty of food inside and good flavor. Then 2 orders of beef pho that was fresh with the meat and all things put on the side since it was to go. The veggies and toppings were plentiful and fresh as well (including packs of plum sauce and sirracha). We also ordered fired egg rolls (looked delish but was too full to try) as well as 2 Vietnamese teas and a Vietnamese coffee. All were so flavorful and so good! Highly recommend.
$10 for the grilled pork banh mi, incredible bread! Vegetables didn't taste very pickled. our server was so nice :)
Great Vietnamese food! Just like in Vietnam and I know because I traveled that country for 3 months. It's a family place and it's quite busy but they work fast so, not a problem. I ordered pork Bun Cha and it was great. The service was nice, helpful and fast enough.
My favorite spot for a Vietnamese specialized noodle: Bun Rieu (Tomato Soup). It's typically difficult to find a restaurant that make this soup with flavor. Rang Dong is by far the best I have tried as far as the Bun Rieu is concerned. The slow cooked pork ribs (falls off bone), the fried tofu, pork blood cake, egg soup & scallions with bean sprouts, cilantro and slice jalapenos on the side. You'll be surprised of how tasty this soup is. Good Luck!
Rang Dong is a wonderful, family run old school Vietnamese restaurant with delicious food and warm service. We got three dishes: banh xeo, bun boe hue, and a broken rice plate. The banh xeo was definitely the star of the evening: fresh, crisp, and extremely tasty. It was our first time getting this dish, and the auntie waiting on us was kind enough to show us how to roll the lettuce wraps. We were thinking this was an appetizer, but in reality it could have been either a full meal for one or an appetizer for 3-4 people. The bun boe hue was a generous portion with tender, fatty meat. I expected a bit more spice in the soup base, but this was easy to fix with the table side condiments. The broken rice plate was well done as well - pork grilled to perfection, rice exceedingly fragrant and toothsome. Restaurant was clean and efficient. All in all a great find - come for the food, stay for the warm service.
The broth is really favorable and tasty. It is clean. Wheelchair accessable. The portion size is really a great deal. They speak Chinese, Vietnamese and English. Parking sucks, but what is expected in Chinatown.

I’ve had a few meals here and think it’s a decently priced place with tasty food. The shop owners are also really friendly. I recommend the banh mis as they are flavorful and good value! The last time I went my friend and I had the speciality soups which honestly were just okay. Nice and warming but the flavors weren’t as punchy as we thought they should be. I’ll be back for banh mis and to try the pho. Good place to grab a snack or get some warm soup on a cold or rainy day.
Not a big fan of this place. Everything was expensive from their pho to banh mi and iced coffee. Pictures online showed phin filters, but I saw they were already premade waiting to be filled with ice. $7 is definitely steep for iced coffee. The meat wasn't high quality either and the overall flavor profile seemed bland. Not the best but certainly not the worst place.

Was in the area and I was so cold and needed a hot meal. I ended up ordering the springs rolls without pork, and it was you know the basic. They didn't clean the end trails well, and the rolls were quite small (btw there were 4 pieces, which is 2 rolls cut in half) . The peanut sauce was watered down & lacking flavor. Then I ordered the beef stew with the rice noodles, and it was inedible to me with a slight strange bitter flavor that was unpalettable to me. The beef was cooked till tenderness, but the overall flavor was off. I can see it being a good dish for someone who has a baby palette because it was bland and bitter. Service was smooth and nice. Vegetables served with the food was washed well and fresh. I can't really recommend this place because as a vietnamese woman raised in a viet home the flavor lacked for me, and the prices are quite high. This could be an intro restaurant for someone who's afraid of flavor cause it's a safe bland flavor. The bill was 35 for a drink, fresh spring rolls, and a bowl of bitter beef stew that i couldn't eat. They said they must've put too much curry seasoning in the stew. My words of wisdom for the cooks is- Balance is key when cooking. Btw i left with my taste buds unhappy and still hungry! Sick a huge disappointment 😞 Eat at your own risk
