We had a year-end celebration at this newly remodeled, spacious restaurant on a bustling street in northern Alameda. The dim sum dishes and Chinese food were delicious, with generous portions. We like the salty pepper crab 🦀 and various dim sum dishes. The chrysanthemum tea was very refreshing with a flowery flavor. The staff were friendly and helpful. We shall come again.

Best dim sum by far! The only place I've found with all my favorites. Great service with dim sum carts cruising the dining room. If you don't see what you want, just tell the server and they radio to the server who has the cart with what you want it. Then they bring it to you. Hot and fresh! The best. It was a little pricey but so fantastic!

New owner, new experience!! Customer service, food, and customer service, in that order. Or maybe it's food, customer service, food! 😂 Either way, they've upped their game to serve outside the Chinese demographic. Cuz you know, we know what to expect when going to a chinese restaurant, haha! If you liked East Ocean before, you will LOVE them now. Food still great if not better, and the refreshing new experience of customer service from the wait staff is unexpectedly awesome! And they've added in non- Chinese to the staff which makes the experience so much more inclusive for all. Great call there East Ocean! (Now if they could only get a bigger parking lot!) 🤔😂

We hosted a birthday party last weekend, hostess Angela was excellent, checking in with us frequently. Nice decor with ample seating, we ordered off the menu and also sampled the dim sum carts. Everyone loved it!

New Menu Alert: Chef Allan’s Truffle Series Location: East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, Alameda. The Verdict: Chef Allan is elevating the traditional dim sum menu with a high-end twist: Italian Black Truffle. The aroma is the first thing that hits you—earthy and distinct—before you even take a bite. The Dishes: 1. Steamed Italian Black Truffle Roll • Composition: A delicate steamed rice noodle roll (cheung fun style) wrapped around plump shrimps and fresh chives. • The Twist: The infusion of Italian black truffle adds a deep, savory musk that complements the sweetness of the shrimp without overpowering it. The texture is silky and soft. 2. Fried Italian Black Truffle Shrimp Dumpling • Composition: A crispy, golden-fried dumpling filled with shrimp. • The Garnish: Topped generously with fried shallots, aromatic garlic, and fresh green onion. • The Twist: The crunch of the fried skin combined with the truffle aroma creates a complex mouthfeel. The garlic and shallots add a punchy contrast to the earthy truffle. Since East Ocean is already a staple for Hong Kong-style dim sum in Alameda, Chef Allan’s move to incorporate Italian black truffle is a bold, modern fusion step—typically something you see in high-end establishments like Koi Palace or Yank Sing, but exciting to see on Webster Street, Alameda island. My server Sarah provided exceptional service. Professionalism and proactive attention to detail—such as replacing plates and anticipating refills—are hallmarks of high-quality hospitality.

Food is excellent! Quality, taste, temperature, crunchiness, moist, flavors are to die for. Service is extraordinary. Servers go above and beyond when you order something or need specific accommodations to your dietary restrictions. Ambience is amazing. Once inside you feel like transported back to Asia. I can't recommend this place enough.

Our first time making a reservation at East Ocean for Christmas dinner. When we arrived, there was a large walk-in crowd already waiting to be seated. The dining room is extremely spacious, nicely decorated and lit. The atmosphere was very inviting and festive which was a good start to our family holiday. We had to wait to get our multiple dishes for our larger table but there is a reason why this restaurant is packed. Our cocktails were very yummy and nicely garnished. Every plate, both veggie and protein-based, was super delicious. We had the black mushroom and sea cucumber clay pot and it was perfectly cooked. The mu shu pork was fantastic and so was the tofu ma po. The few dim sum we ordered were gone just as soon as they hit the table. Mango pudding made with real mango and the kids loved it! Every dish served family-style to share as the fun wheel spins around the table. It is always very exciting to have so many people to hang out with while celebrating Christmas and sharing such a nice celebration together. The service was attentive but you could tell that they were a little understaffed. We heard from the bartender that they had a few people under the weather that night. However, the servers went above and beyond, running up and down trying to cover everyone’s demand, and making a real effort that night. Kudos to those kind people who work to serve others on special holidays vs. taking the day off to enjoy at home! Thank you for a wonderful family meal, East Ocean, we will be back for more!!

We were a party of five and were seated immediately. It was Dim Sum Saturday, which we were not aware of when we decided to have lunch. The restaurant was very busy. We really enjoyed our lunch and ordered multiple dishes of Dim Sum. In my opinion there is no better place to have Dim Sum in the Bay Area. East Ocean is the place for Dim Sum on the weekends!

Favorite Chinese food place. I grew up going there and still make it a point to eat there when I'm in town to visit family. I honestly haven't eaten there much because I always get take out but the remodel is really nice. My go to is always their eggplant clay pot, hot & sour soup, chow mein (I love their skinny noodles!), pot stickers and broccoli beef. Can't go wrong with any of them, though they used to serve the pot stickers with a red vinegar sauce that they didn't include the last time and I was a bit disappointed but could have been a fluke. Idk.

Monday Labor Day morning and we were trying to figure out what to get for brunch after a day and night of partying. Looked on Yelp and dim sum looked appetizing! It was a very busy lunch time in Alameda and parking was a bit difficult because it was so busy so we had to circle around for a while. We had a party of 5 and the wait was about 20 minutes but they had a bar! So we went in and got a round of drinks, tequila sodas, lychee martinis, and mimosas on the house for the ladies. We even ran into a local Bay Area rapper Plo who was also waiting for a table. Going to the bar made it fast and it was a busy morning there. Lots of workers with their dim sum carts so we got what was being passed around. We got pork siu mai, shrimp hargow, xlb (we’re not soupy), shrimp and beef rice rolls, chicken feet, honey walnut shrimp, guylan, seaweed salad, pork belly, duck, we ordered stuffed eggplant from the kitchen. For dessert we got some egg tarts and sesame buns. We also got an order of hot jasmine tea. We ordered more than enough and had some leftovers for lunch the next day. Service was quick, very family oriented but they didn’t give us a menu so we went with what we knew and what they came by with. A perfect place for all party sizes, big and small and quick service.

While photographing venues for Alameda Restaurant Week, I made sure to include East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, a dim sum institution on the island. Everything tastes notably fresh, and it's a massive, perfect spot for large parties. The place is never not packed - a testament to its popularity and quality.

This spot is still my favorite dim sum place in the bay area. East Ocean is probably the only restaurant that not only survived 2020 and the subsequent COVID fallout, but grew its business. They expanded their restaurant and there was hardly any wait to get a table. In the old days it could be over an hour wait. The quality of the food is the same. Everything still tastes amazing. The carts are loaded down with our favorite dim sum. We stopped coming for a while because the prices also increased to a point where we didn't feel like we were getting value for what we were paying. After years of withdrawal, and a visiting friend, we happily returned. The check shows what sized dishes we ordered. Not a ton and cost $120 for 3 people. I remember when a small plate was $1, and you could eat your fill for under $20. We paced ourselves and only ordered our favorites and did not try other dishes like we might have in the past.

Came for dim sum on a Saturday. Everything was good--especially chive dumplings, har gao and the incredible sesame crackle-top buns with custard inside. Steamed pork buns were better than I usually have, soup dumplings just okay, fried rice was fantastic. I'd easily go back.

A gem in Alameda. Authentic dim sum both authentic in flavors and presentation: they still present them in traditional self-heating mobile carts, and mark by stamps😃 Classics are classic here, you can’t go wrong with almost anything, they are yummy and shiny ✨ Staffs were efficient, they went above and beyond to help you. And food recommendations from them were just flooding towards you - they had so many choices and new items that they couldn’t wait for you to try it all! It’s funny how fast we filled our table in just the first five minutes 😅 Overall it’s a happy venue with yummy food😊 Ample parking in its own parking lot in the back.

This is probably one of the great Chinese food restaurant on this side of the bay. The services are great and clean (compared to many Chinese restaurants). They have Sushi menu and dim sum too but we were here for Chinese food at dinner time. Price average $16 per plate plate unless you order some seasonal seafood items or duck and buns platter.

Loved the service and atmosphere. Within minutes of being seated, we were already ordering plenty of food from the carts. One standout was a black shrimp dumpling that was fried — unique and my favorite of the dishes. We also enjoyed the Chinese donuts (sa young bao) and the black sesame jelly rolls. Everything came out fresh and flavorful. Would definitely come back!

Great food, fast & courteous service. Has various vegetarian options. Ordering is done with a dry erase marker off of a menu with pictures sealed in plastic. A bit on the pricey side but an enjoyable experience. There is street parking and a limited lot in the back.

Went for dim sum in a Friday, no waiting. Just order from the menu with an occasional person walking around for pastries or dessert items. When ordering rice, ask for it in advance. Otherwise you may get it towards the end of your meal.

A now rare-find dim sum parlour still serving steaming small dishes from carts — a noteworthy treasure to celebrate considering cart-side service has largely been nixed since COVID. While not quite the lively hawking commonly encountered, the atmosphere is still bustling. Flavors a bit mild, with virtually no spice, but primarily salt and sweet. Dumplings tasty, but slightly over-steamed as apparent from torn wrappers. Highlight was pork belly with very crunchy skin. A good place to catch up with friends or family — circular tables can fit up to 12.

The dim sum here is top-notch—everything tasted fresh and flavorful, especially the shrimp dumplings and pork buns. The staff was attentive, ensuring our teapots were always full. However, the restaurant gets quite crowded on weekends, leading to longer wait times. Also, some dishes felt a bit pricey for the portion size. Overall, a solid spot for a hearty dim sum brunch.

Their Kung Pao chicken lacks the traditional flavors of classic Chinese cuisine, resembling more of a typical stir-fried chicken dish. Other dishes also fall short of the expected seasoning. However, the food is served quickly, and the waitstaff are very helpful.
