Sub Culture Albany Reviews
I can say, with all honestly, that there's no place like Subculture & a massive part of that is the wonderful owner alongside his incredible staff. I'm treated like family every time I walk in the door, they have the absolute best specials in the capital region, & it's the lone local vegan restaurant where I can bring my cat Elwood in with me for a bite.
I could probably eat here every day! So many amazing vegan selections. I am partial to the Italian sub and the mushroom po-boy but my partner loves the crunch wrap. A stocked supply of locally made desserts too. Eat there (parking along Lark Street) or take it to go.
i go here all the time and LOVE IT but we ordered here for Thanksgiving and it was SO good! great pricing, easy pickup, great food. i can’t recommend subculture enough to everyone vegan and non vegan. definitely going to be ordering catering for our next party
Update- Had to come back and try the Philly cheese steak. It was so flavorful, packed with meat on the sub, they don't skimp out. I appreciated the side of pickle and chips too. Well worth it. Also ordered the mozz sticks, they taste homemade and the breading had amazing seasoning. Not that freezer stuff that restaurants use. Shout-out to the cute guy at the counter too. Super friendly and helpful ☺️ ----------------------------- First time visiting since working in the area. Great service and love that there are so many vegetarian/vegan options and really cool atmosphere. Note it's not ada friendly just an fyi The fries were crispy even after taking it to go and the wrap was very tasty and generous in size. Off to a good start! Will definitely be back!
Amazing vegan food! I got the mozzarella sticks and a rueben. So much food! The art on the walls was fun. I had a nice chat with the guy behind the counter about other great vegan spots AND they sell rebel cheese and deli meats. Had to get me some
This place is really good. Like REALLY, REALLLLLY good! I’ve been to sooo many vegan spots & this is easily in the top 3 BEST! Super tiny & adorable all vegan deli slinging up some of the BEST vegan comfort food! Loved the cozy seating area & decor. We tried the crispy chicken sandwich, cheese fries & a special that was basically a vegan smash burger with mozzarella sticks on top & their bacon- like WOAH 🥹 I literally am drooling thinking of how good it was. Literally the best vegan burger of my life. The food was SO fresh & perfectly amazing. I really wish I lived closer otherwise I’d LIVE here. Do NOT pass up this place. You will regret it!
Fresh. Fresh. Fresh! Joey (the owner) took real good care of us. All the vegan meats made in-house. The Reuben was dynamite. Sliced super thin and seasoned to perfection. Buffalo crunch wrap was flavor heaven. And don’t get me started on the wings or else this will turn into a thesis. Simply delicious!
First visit on a trip through Albany and I'll definitely be back. Food was delicious, the decor was quirky & cool and service was great. I had a chorizo breakfast burrito with fries and my friend had the garlic parm wings and mozzarella sticks. Lots of goodies like fancy cheeses and candy bars to go. Highly recommended.
Was in Albany for a day and found thiis gem! The place is beautiful and cozy, the staff friendly and helpful and the food absolutely delicious! I had the Wing Burger and perfectly crispy fries . Both were amazing and the portions more than generous This is probably the best sandwich place I’ve ever been to - can’t wait to go back!
THIS DELI HAS EVERYTHING!!! and its completely vegan?! All my friends and family who don't usually eat vegan loved it! Plus they're super accommodating to other restrictions like gluten free and nut free. Their sandwiches are absolutely massive and packed with savory and tender vegan meats of all sorts that are even tastier than you could possibly imagine the real thing is! I've tried almost all the menu and the reuben, packed with smoky and chewy seitan, is easily my favorite sandwich not only here but that I've ever ordered anywhere (although all their dishes are in my top favorites). They also have a deli case and freezer where you can buy unique vegan products like spray cheese and vegan candy, local "meats" made of seitan that you can cook at home just like you would for a real deli, I've had their Thanksgiving turkey and it was amazing, prepared fridge foods like jackfruit salad and potato salad, and desserts of which the cream croissant is incredible! It's run by such kindhearted people who provide excellent service, and truly care about veganism to provide delicious food while helping the animals and supporting other local businesses by sourcing local seitan meats. They also have rotating specials which can't be missed! It's always exciting and innovative, thank you Subculture!
This is my third time visiting, and I am obsessed with the philly cheesesteak made with seitan! The food is pretty good and it's definitely nice to have a vegan sub shop around. The vibe inside the restaurant is relaxed. Subculture is for meat-eaters, vegans, and everyone in-between! Be sure to check them out!
We’ve been coming here for a couple years now! We drive from westchester all the way up here just for these sandwiches. There’s absolutely no vegan deli like this around. Make a location in westchester! The food is always fresh, flavorful and well portioned. If you’re a vegan, vegetarian or just in the mood for good food, this is your place!!!
This was a really cool place and they were very helpful. I thought I had placed an online order but it didn’t go through and when I came there thinking it would be ready I found out they didn’t have an order for me. I had plans to go to a show and was short on time and they were able to make my order quickly. The po boy sandwich made with oyster mushrooms was sooo good and seasoned very well. I do wish there were more mushrooms though, that’s my only knock. I felt like there was more bread that mushrooms but everything was good nonetheless.
Second time trying the popcorn mushroom po’ boy sandwich. It’s my favorite item on the menu. The crisp and flavor from the mushrooms alone is tasty. I was hesitant about getting the mac and cheese, but I’ve learned that they make their own cheese flavor in house, so I ordered it with the breadcrumbs on the side. To be honest, I enjoyed the mac and cheese by itself. Overall, I love subculture and I like that they introduce new menu items every now and then. Definitely check them out!
Nice little vegan place on the restaurant street, Lark St, serving delicious sandwiches and burgers. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and I was able to find a seat fairly easily. I got the Romesco Chikn and Broccoli sandwich and I really liked it. The sandwich was flavourful and I especially liked the sauces which added ample flavour to the broccoli and soy curls mixture. Overall, the sandwich tasted good yet healthy. I would love to stop by and try more of their offerings. On a side note, the food is a little on the pricier side so I would budget around that and I would have loved to have a larger sandwich if it could be accommodated.
