Keobi Albany Reviews
This was my first time ordering and they didn’t have the egusi soup but the workers were extremely nice and helpful and pointed me towards the best best thing. Everything was hot and super tasty
Great customer service. Prompt, patient, courteous! They sell beer and wine! Family style or individual! Traditional African food made by a Great chef! They are located On the bus line. If you want something new, different and not your normal go to. Tell ‘em Lala sent you. Whether it’s for you or you and guest you will love to experience Africa in Albany. You can take it to go or have it delivered. I do suggest dinning in! We were a party of three! First experience in tasting Africa Food was great! Follow the journey. Owner Obi was polite, professional, and knowledgeable about the dishes. I walked in, ordered and waited about 15-20 minutes for goat soup, fufu and fried chicken. The quality is homemade. The space is simple and clean. I would recommend going there to dine out with family, etc.
Amazing West African food! Everyone loved their food which was fresh and delicious and the flavors and spices were off the chart excellent. I was not super hungry so I just ordered the jollof rice and a side of spinach (WOW! I will have a difficult time ordering anything else) and I still have a whole other meal for today! Keobi will be going into our regular restaurant rotation.
Came in for dinner and had a great experience! We usually get takeout from here but opted to go in tonight and are glad we did! Service was fast, and kind and the vibe was great. The peanut butter soup will always be my favorite!
Delicious food that feels just like a warm hug, a sensation that only happens when the food is nutritious and home cooked. We loved the rice jollof, ewa ge, and peanut soup. So happy to now have West African cuisine in our options when go out for food. Lots of vegetarian options too :)
I was in the Albany area so I decided to meet my friends here for dinner last Thursday night 7/4/24. I wanted peanut soup with fish but they ran out of fish. So I ordered the curry goat. It was very good, nice and spicy just like I like it and I ordered Jallof rice. The jallof rice was ok, could use more flavor, imo. I thought it tastes more like fried rice. But the curried goat was very tasty! The staff was attentive and helpful. I would come back when in the area again. 👍🏽 It is on a Main Street, no parking, no stopping in front. Park around the corner and walk back but worth it. Please come and try them out!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Keobi restaurant and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience. The restaurant offers authentic and delicious African cuisine that truly captures the essence of the flavors and spices of the continent. From the moment I stepped in, the customer service was exceptional, with a warm and friendly staff who went above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. What impressed me even more was the affordability of the menu, making it accessible for everyone to indulge in the culinary delights of Africa. Keobi restaurant is a hidden gem that I highly recommend for anyone seeking a unique and flavorful dining experience.
Absolutely wonderful experience! The food was amazing and the person behind the counter was patient with us since it was our first time. Do allow some time since they make everything from scratch at time of order, this is not fast food. We were there for around an hour for lunch. Either that or order ahead of time. Everything was so flavorful. We'll definitely be back!
Saka saka - proper Nigerian saka saka, a bit fishy. Understand that you are getting the Nigerian version so will have lots of shrimp and will taste of it. Peanut butter soup - delicious, mild spice, super flavorful. Very warm and comforting. Some other reviews were highly critical of it - ignore them. Peppered snails - be warned, this dish is made with african giant snails and they are giant. Very chewy, our server admitted they were overcooked. Sauce was tangy, a bit spicy, and perfectly flavorful. Fufu is as smooth as it can be. Overall good authentic Nigerian dishes, plenty of vegan and vegetarian options Our server was very engaging and cared a lot how our experience was. Even threw in a free plantain fufu just for us to try it. If you come when the place is crowded and has a lot of orders expect a pretty long wait - small kitchen and everything seems made to order including fufu. I certainly will be back.
I drive nearly an hour from Pittsfield for this food. My favorite is the Fufu and Okra! The gentlemen that work there are extremely kind and a really good conversation. I genuinely encourage folks to give this place a try if they’re trying to dabble into other cultures’ foods. As long as they’re around, I’ll continue supporting this business!
The jollof rice alone makes Koebi worth checking out. The robust blend of spices and the tender chicken are what you’d expect from this classic West African dish. It was the cornerstone of the dinner which also included the cucumber and mango salad and the stew with plantains. It took awhile for the food to come out so calling ahead for takeout may be a better option. It was a personable touch for the chef to engage with the diners.
I really wanted to like it. I've got some experience with both West African and Caribbean foods, and there's some crossover at Keobi. But at least what I got was not great. I used to raise goats, and I literally didn't know it was possible for goat to get that fatty. And $51 for the two plates shown at lunch time is ridiculous. Follow up: The owners responded with "we don't raise our own animals," and of course that's obvious, but they do have the option of using decent cuts of meat and not chunks of fat.
The prices are EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL AND UNREALISTIC! Beef suya kebab was $11 for 1 skewer even though the picture on their website shows 4 kebabs!!! Scam!! But it came with lots of cabbage, tomato etc. maybe you should tell people you’re selling salad for 11. Egusi soup was about 5oz with 2 pieces of meat for $27! Just insane. Scamming people out of food. Are times really that hard? Then there’s NO accommodations. 1 star because at least the flavors of Egusi and suya beef were good but honestly not worth it for the price! Efo riro taste last water and tomatoes. No flavor at all and they used cheap quality meat. For the price you would think you’re getting the best of the best. Not at all
This whole dine in experience was horrific. We ordered 2 entrees. I ordered the beef & Jollof rice & my partner had chicken & Jollof rice. I was genuinely excited to try the food considering, it would’ve been my first time trying an African dish. My beef was freezing cold- NOT EVEN WARM- just COLD. Which led me to believe- the food must’ve been a couple of days old however, definitely NOT FRESH. My plantains were definitely “leftover”- they tasted like they were a couple of days old. Like- HOW DO YOU MESS UP PLANTAINS ???!!!! Now- let’s talk about my partner’s dish- where the meal was $20 and she only received 1 piece of chicken!!! I repeat “1 piece of chicken”. Yes, you read that correctly “1 drumstick” just 1!!! Like, how is this meal an entree yet, you’re serving “one drumstick”. I WILL NEVER , EVER come back to this place ever again. Oh & they automatically charge gratuity on the bill- which was not an issue however, At least give us good service if you’re going to automatically charge that. Make the price worth the taste and experience. I highly recommend -eating ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on this menu because after today’s experience, I just know the things on the menu are sitting in the back ( a couple of days old) waiting to be reheated. Save yourself your $$$ and go somewhere else- trust me you’ll thank me later.
I had a MAGGOT in my fufu last week and I ALWAYS ORDER FROM HERE. I got two, one for me and one for my partner. We noticed the one that was cold HAD the maggot inside it, which was obviously older. They might’ve took down my partner’s review but best believe everyone will know including our lawyer. We called to even tell them and they acted like they didn’t know what we were talking about. Terrible treatment and terrible experience. Went from eating here every week to just stopping all together. YOU WILL KILL SOMEONE! Photos below smh
I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Keobi. I had previously rated them good, but my latest visit was a letdown. I ordered the egusi soup and fufu, which was a disaster. The soup was stale, overly salty, and had visible burnt bits from the pot. It was irritating to say the least. What's worse, when I called to complain, the response was subpar and lacked any apology or concern. As a customer, it's disheartening to see a restaurant not take feedback seriously. Hopefully, they'll take steps to improve their food quality and customer service.
