Fanelli Cafe Albee Square Reviews
The baked buffalo wings are the best I’ve ever had! Great timeless, NYC atmosphere inside. Outside is great for a summer day.
We almost randomly walked in on a Sun late morning while out shopping. We had a veg omelette with fries and two eggs with sausage and fries (proper thin French fries). The food was perfect, exactly what we were after and hit the spot. Service was great. Its a down to earth joint with an old school pub interior. The entire experience was great.
SOOOOO classic. I love the chili dog!! Great American classics. I live in the neighborhood it's so nice to have on the corner. Sometimes the people who come have weird try hard energy BUT that is not the fault of the staff, who are all really lovely. Prices went up a bit but still one of the most reasonably priced spots in the area! Great merch.
We popped in for an early dinner and had Jasmine as our server, and could not ask for a better experience. They were quick to get us a table and Jasmine was super attentive and friendly. Fanelli’s has become one of our favorites spots, and we will definitely be returning!
I've been coming here for decades. It is what it has always been, a busy, comfortable neighborhood tavern with good food. If you want to experience an old-style New York City local bar, this is it. Just remember, it's a neighborhood bar, but now it's a millionaire's neighborhood, so it ain't cheap... but it's as swell a place as it always was.
Cool spot. Stopped by for fries and drinks. Was very crowded.
Awesome old school bar/restaurant. Great service, perfectly made drinks, and a fun/friendly atmosphere.
So glad we stumbled upon this gem! It was wonderful. We waited maybe five minutes before being seated. Food was quick to arrive and very good. Would recommend.
Yummy and our server Lily, is an excellent server. Food come right out, you don't have to wait for a long time, busy restaurant.
This iconic cafe located in the heart of Soho is a perfect spot to grab a quick bite or pint and take a break from shopping. I love love love their onion rings. This things slap and are big. The burger is good too. If it’s a nice day out, be sure to grab a table outside for some great people watching. You might even spot a celeb!
Fanelli cafe is a staple. I’m a born and raised New Yorker and have worked in the area as well as spent a lot of my youth in SoHo. Fanelli cafe is iconic and their bar food is great. The wings are crazy, the burger is straight to the point & exactly what you’d want from a bar burger and the staff is ILL. I came a lot during the pandemic and they were always in a chipper mood and happy to have us. I feel comfortable here, it feels familiar to a native New Yorker and one of the last places of its kind. Not sure why I’ve NEVER written a review for them before, but I’m going tomorrow with the homies and I figured why not! Go here for that classic NYC American bar experience.
Best Martini in town! Have Heather fill you up! You might spot a celeb or find me! 🐢
Consistently great food and service. Go in the lull hours and you’ll get a table no problem. Fries are so crispy and perfect. Love the open faced tuna sandwich, really good burger, and the soup and meatballs as smaller dishes. Real neighborhood people hang out here with some intervention from SoHo shoppers, but not enough to detract from the community feel
Best place on our short trip. The ambiance feels authentic, the staff is cool, food is exactly what you want. Casual and picturesque, for those who love comfort food but the good way (its in the small details). French FRIES where real and well done (its a rare thing in most cities). Plates and cutlery were on point. Also KIDS friendly. Constructive criticism: get more IPA, lel. De l'amour du Québec, merci!
The food was very delicious and they have a good selection of drinks. Seems like a lot of young professional types eat here, so if that’s your vibe then you’ll definitely like this place. The staff were extremely friendly and the prices were about what you’d expect for a place like this.
Just had a coffee by myself but felt incredibly welcomed and special by the staff. Amazing service by all 3 waitstaff who checked in on me.
My fave pub for a hot today and martini until I got sober. Still my fave pub for chowder, burgers, and a cute ny moment and a cold ny night. A true classic💋
I lived on Lafayette St for years but had never been here until last night and I loved it. Old school very busy bar, very casual, with good service . I’ll be back.
Ordered fries and martinis—what I like to call a Happy Meal. Salt and brine, crisp and clean. It’s the kind of combo that steadies shaky souls and shortens the night. Fanelli’s is a rare New York spot that actually earns the word institution, operating as a speakeasy during Prohibition. The conversation flowed easy, and the service staff treated us like we’d been coming since 1847. Time flits by faster inside, softened by rose light, slowed by gin. No one rushed us. We weren’t just winding down; we were softening into a new way of being. Worth the bustle to find a table
A favorite OG spot for yummmy greasy comfort food that doesn't taste like it's greasy... Actually tastes and feels clean. love the chill atmosphere and people watching. Has all of my favorite foods on the menu. Very generous portions, great for sharing. Staff so friendly!!! Very busy spot but the employees are quick!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s a gem and underrated place. Have visited Fanelli Cafe during the Christmas holidays. The best NY pizza I have ever tried in NY and only contains from souse, cheese and basil’s leaves. The crust as thin as it could be and filling were creamy and salty enough. Clam shoulder as I expected. Strong A. Tomato soup was incredibly creamy. Strong A as well. Desert didn’t live up my expectations, I would skip it next time. Service the only should be adjusted. Probably guys weren’t got their coffee dozes at the morning. Good place for fast meal before carrying on a walk.
The salmon was fresh but a bit undercooked, but I was impressed with the way this dish looked. The burger was tasty and the price was great, its their desserts that I really did hate. My biggest objection was that there were only 2 choices for selection. Also their cheesecake was tiny and expensive, although very tasty I did find the bite size serving offensive.
An amazing place in the heart of tourist driven Soho that still has the feeling of a local watering hole. Tons of “Old New York” character. During one of New York’s hardest times they remained open and helped many who stayed in The city stay sane. Wonderful food, kind staff, a definite recommend for both people in the neighborhood looking for a great watering hole and tourists looking to experience what makes people love New York City!
Very nice place. Went here for breakfast. Ordered the omelette, around $16. Get to choose 3 options to put in it and side of fries. I got bacon, ham, and cheddar. Very well cooked and a lot of the toppings were on it. Service was quick and food came out quick too. Very friendly and nice. Would go back again and definitely worth the price.
A New York fav. The bartenders and the locals make this place amazing. The nicest New Yorkers I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Claire and Tom are the best bartenders. I look forward to my days off to pop in here for a spicy Bloody Mary and a rascal burger. Perfection.
Our main aim today was to visit @fanellis for lunch, then to randomly explore SoHo. Fanelli’s is an iconic and charming bar and cafe and has become a favourite with the New York diners. Established around 1847 as a grocery store, later it became a bar, then back to a grocery store. This “chop and change” continued for years until Michael Fanelli took over in 1922 rebranding it Fanelli’s Cafe. Later in the 80’s, it served as a gathering place for artists during the transition of Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood from a manufacturing area to an arts community. The vintage decor alone gives away the history which exudes an easy-going atmosphere with a punch of coziness. This formula beckons many locals who make it their “regular” but also tourists who come to experience a little bit of old New York. Look up when you’re inside and check out the stunning roof with its pressed designs and old world lights which creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Take time to run your hand along the wooden bar and reflect on the thousands of people who’ve sat there snd shared an ale. For lunch we chose a BLT with salad and a burger with fries. Both delicious. Our waitress Tatjana was so sweet. She knew the menu, she’s was quick to deliver water to our table and then take our orders. Frank, behind the bar clearly loves his job, attending to his patrons with a smile and light conversation. The menu is classic pub food with a modern day touch. Whether you’re an adult or child, there’s something for everyone here. Prices are reasonable making it affordable to all. Dine indoors or out on the pavement in the Fanelli seats. Highly recommend you visit if only to soak up a little bit of old New York. #thewanderingreviewer #fanelliscafe #newyork2024 #fanelli #fanellirestaurant #fanellicafe #fanellinyc #fanellinsoho
A little gem hidden at the NYC soho. The experience is like walking into a 50s restaurant. Food is good, service is excellent and quick and the people working there are absolutely stunning, including a waiter who is a Jim Morrison clone. $30 per person or €25, is a really good price for the location, quality and service. Thank you!
This place has amazing food. The chili was more warm than hot, but everything was really tasty and fantastic. I’d go when you’ve got a little patience because it’s busy, they don’t care about your business because it’s busy so you’re going to need a pound of patience.
A friend and I visited while our wives were off enjoying the nearby Lip Lab. From the beginning, it was a warm, friendly environment and the beers were cold… The wives joined us and we grabbed a late lunch. Food was very good; personally enjoyed the spinach & mushrooms app. After a very enjoyable couple hours, we went to check out and, to our shock, someone had picked up our tab!! Not 100% sure who but, regardless, that there are the type of people there that would, speaks to the place overall. Will be visiting any time in NYC going forward! Thank you for a wonderful holiday memory.
The cutesiest little place! The food was really expensive, which is to be expected in the city, but we split the margherita pizza appetizer ($20) and it was just enough and very good! Got seated immediately near the exit door, and the atmosphere felt very cozy and definitely fit w/ the history of the restaurant. The people who work here were so friendly; definitely one of my favorite places I visited in SoHo!
We were working in the area and it 15 degrees outside. We needed to warm up when we stumbled across this place. Looks like this is a popular place for the locals since the bartender knew everyone. We had an Irish coffee and it was killer. The food looked really good and the bartender was super nice. Stop in and grab a drink. Cheers.
They are the best around!\nLove this spot!\nGreat burger and love the bleu cheese dressing.

I like the place. Irish bartender is on top of her game. Dogfish 120 is a nice throwback beer. No complaints. Wouldn’t mind coming back to try their burger.
We went to Fanelli cafe on the first night of our stay in NYC - what a great find! The cafe was busy with locals even on a Monday night - always a good sign - but the owner managed to squeeze us …
The ambience was great. The food could have been better. I would recommend the grilled chicken sandwich.
Gastropub established 1847, with low lit dining and ornate wooden bar has so much charm! They play silent TCM Classics up in the corner while locals shout at each other. The waitresses are tall, beautiful and the bartender strides the length of the bar with attitude. It all feels like a movie. The food is ok, not amazing, but the atmosphere is worth it.
Dined in this historical little cozy place. Family has been dining here since the '80's. Love the mood lighting, which gave it a nice warm feeling. Was seated at a simple, polished wood table & ordered a small meal for my vegetarian stomach. Loved how fresh the onions garnishing the top of the dish! The next time I visit I'll definitely want to try sample something else for sure! I generally had a nice evening except I got the constant feeling of being rushed midway-end of my meal because someone who was definitely a manager of some kind kept on checking up on my uncle & I and then leaving while we wined & dined. As we left, they began to set up reserved signs on tables. I recognize it was a busy night, but if you're going to seat us to dine-in during dinner hours only to make reserved tables, perhaps that should be taken into consideration when managing the space overall... Other than that, looking forward to a second try in the future. Wishing the cafe continued success!
Fabulous burger and clams chowder!!! Popped in for a quick Wednesday night dinner, this place was incredibly busy. Standing room only at the bar and a wait for a table. We were assured the traditional American dinner food would be good and we were not disappointed. The clam chowder was the standout for me. Dinner itself is quite small and noisy, but definitely worth checking out!!!
We stumbled across this place whole shopping in Soho. Staff were great both friendly and efficient particularly the front of house lady. Service was good. I was recommended the Chilli soup. It was delicious! We has an outside table/booth with heater. It was perfect for watching the world go by while enjoying our lunch. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
Fanelli Cafe is a charming and iconic establishment located in the heart of SoHo, NYC. This historic pub exudes character and a cozy atmosphere that beckons locals and tourists alike to relax and enjoy a drink or a meal. The interior of Fanelli Cafe is a mix of vintage decor and modern touches, creating a unique ambiance that is both welcoming and stylish. The exposed brick walls, wooden bar, and dim lighting give the place a rustic feel, perfect for a casual hangout or a quiet evening. The menu at Fanelli Cafe offers a variety of options, from classic pub fare to more sophisticated dishes. Whether you're in the mood for a juicy burger, a crisp salad, or a hearty pasta dish, there's something for everyone to enjoy. One of the highlights of Fanelli Cafe is its friendly and attentive staff. The bartenders and servers are knowledgeable about the menu and drinks, and they always go above and beyond to ensure that customers have a pleasant experience. Overall, Fanelli Cafe is a fantastic spot in NYC to grab a drink, enjoy a meal, or simply soak in the charm of this historic pub. Whether you're a local looking for a regular hangout or a visitor wanting to experience a piece of New York City history, Fanelli Cafe is definitely worth a visit.
Not cheap, but cheerful. This New York bar/ restaurant is a classic hit but also can be a tourist trap. Good for pre dinner drinks for people watching in Soho. Got the chicken strips and they were actually pretty good, just pricy. I recommend but know what you’re getting into when you sit down at this NYC staple.
Fanelli Cafe is the perfect spot for a cozy escape on a cool, rainy day. It can get so crowded here that I have often just avoided it for years (decades actually). I was lucky this past Friday. We stopped in for just a coffee and a shot of bourbon and some time to write and talk, but the atmosphere was what really stood out. The old boxer photos lining the walls gave it a nostalgic charm, and the staff was genuinely friendly. Whether you're there for a quick drink or to soak in the history, it’s a timeless gem in the heart of SoHo. You can definitely feel the old school charm here and you definitely want to taper your expectations but for me, it's the sort of old, beautiful, beat up that I like.
We walked into this café on a beautiful sunny day and chose to sit outside to enjoy the weather. The food was delicious—simple yet full of flavor. The breakfast sandwich was particularly satisfying and hit all the right notes. However, the service was not very attentive. Our waitress forgot two items from our order and rarely checked in on us. We also ordered a drink that never arrived, even though we received our food first. While the food was great, the service could use some improvement to match the quality of the dishes.
We came here for a late lunch after walking in Soho for hours. There was a lineup, so we put our name in and waited for tables to become available. The good thing was that it was fast and we only waited for 15-20 minutes. It’s a cozy café that has a “home” vibe. The staff are friendly , too. We ordered beef chili and Fanelli Burger with Fries and enjoyed our food. Chilly was definitely our favorite.
Super busy place and full of tourist :D, LOL. My friend and I want to try anyway as we saw line up and this place is crowded. Honest review, I actually went to this bar many times and all the time before I didn't get any table or even space to stand. I don't understand obviously, why people are killing to hang out at this place. On the wall, they have nice old picture of many famous people. Food is American style, nothing special or high quality and I understand as full of customer the server hardly goes to every table. All I wanted to say is as I was able to get a table, I complete the task and that it! I don't want to come back or if it is not too full of ppl, maybe? My friend and I shop in Soho often and after shopping we like to have place to rest and hang out.

They are always busy, waitresses are usually nice and the food is always decent - fries are delicious! A solid, classic SoHo haunt for many years.
Perfect place for American food in soho! Love the ambiance & their staffs are friendly!
As both a Downtown local and a Fanelli's regular, it's true, the staff is generally miserable and one we just put up with because it used to be a descent space to drop by for drinks between events …

Been here twice. This place is good if you are hungry and in the area. Definitely not a fancy restaurant even though it is located in one of the best neighborhoods of the city. Prices are very affordable, diner style food, really limited menu, but the serve breakfast, lunch and dinner the whole day.
Service was pretty slow despite the place being half empty. I liked the cafe interior/overall atmosphere, but the pricey menu and subpar service makes it a dud for me
Would’ve been great but a bug fell in my food. By the time it was remade we needed to leave.
Nice little spot to grab a quick bite. We were a larger party and was happy to be accommodated. Food was pretty good/average. Random staff came to the table to bring/take things. Couldn't identify them, at one point I honestly thought it was a patron. Perhaps wearing something uniform like a shirt would be helpful. Service was fast-- though not the friendliest.. made it a bit awkward.
Mostly tourist attract place. It became eat & go style now. Food is ok not very fancy kitchen works. I ordered rye Old Fashioned whiskey. Glass was just a little bit bigger than the shot glass. I felt like fooled by the size and cost is the same. Fried calamari was delicious but beet salad was kind of weak…

Stop in for the atmosphere and drinks at the bar, old school New York spot - stick to the burger. Don' know if it was on off day, but fries were bland, tasteless and soggy,
Good food but literally TERRIBLE service. I couldn’t have been nicer and all the wait staff were incredibly rude and short. I had to find them and ask them for every single thing, they did not come to my table once. I had to holler to get their attention after they repeatedly watched me wave them over and ignored me. Whether this has to do with race is beyond me but I was the only person of color there, and watched everyone else receive actual service. Love the food and ambiance but will not be coming back because of the insanely bad service and rude staff.
Food was great. place was way too crowded. My chair kept getting hit by one of the doors. Service was kind of rude. Waitress was ignoring us so had to go up and ask for check. When I asked her she straight up ignored me and I had to make eye contact with someone else and they helped me.
I don’t know maybe they lost their magic or their spark, but this place was not it for me. I ordered the La Pat Frida which how it is described on the menu as a chili cheese, dog with sauerkraut and all these options. An old New Yorker or a true New Yorker would understand that a chili cheese dog comes with all of the fixings. I never heard of sauerkraut on her chili cheese dogs so that’s weird. But I had to wait 10 minutes for you to put chili in a separate container along with the cheese in a separate container along with the onions and a separate container. I’ve had to make my own chili cheese dog when the whole point of chili cheese dog is fast on the go, but all the stuff comes melted infused together. I think you wasted the time putting the items in a separate container and I had all this extra stuff that I did not need when you could’ve just simply put it on the hotdog. The chili is disgusting to go on hotdogs. That is not how chili cheese hotdog dogs work. I’m going to have to bring them a chili cheese dog from Michigan to really get them to understand how a chili cheese dog should be made. The price for the La Pat Frida, listed with all of those fixings was supposed to be $12. I ended up paying $16 because I was charged for all the other items separately. I don’t think this will ever be a place I would go to again. I will give it one more chance by sitting on the inside to really have a more in depth review of the place.
Probably hands-down the worst meal I had in New York during my trip there. Burger bun was soggy, patty was unappetizing and a bit slimy, and the fries were so dry that even the ketchup couldn’t save them. Resturant was also very crowded and noisy inside. It was very dark and cramped feeling. The cup they gave me with water also some sort of food or plastic particle hanging off the side which was gross enough that I did not touch it once despite the food being so dry. We also ordered some chicken fingers which weren’t as bad as the burger but they were also quite tasteless even with the sauce. Overall, I would not recommend this place. Food, service, and atmosphere are all subpar despite it not being cheap. You can get better value at restaurants in the tourist trap areas near Times Square for not much more.

The worst service in the city. We went in just to have a coffee, but apparently that’s not allowed. The person at the entrance has absolutely no idea what customer service means. What a rude guy!
I had a really disappointing experience here. The meatballs in the spaghetti were soggy and had an unpleasant texture, and the pasta itself tasted terrible. I also ordered a well-done burger, but it came out completely raw in the middle. Definitely not coming back.
We came as a 2 walk-in and wanted to seat outdoors. We were not properly greeted. This middle aged guy spoke to us as he was a stranger in the street trying to initiate a conversation. I was confused if he worked there or not. No greeting, nothing! There were two girls behind us. When he seated us I asked if It’s okay to seat at another table which was closer to the street. He was so rude and said no this is the only one (in a tiny corner). One minute later he sat those girls after us at the table we requested. Stereotyping at its finest. I would not be going back again. Idc ab the food nor the drinks when service is trash :) 2 hours wait to order, 2 hours wait on the drinks, this dude is acting super passive agressive to his team and screaming at them. They look like they don’t want to be here. We called him to ask if we can have someone take our order and he literally kept pretending he couldn’t hear us. This review is coming as someone who has now been working in the industry for years! Do these workers and guests a favor and fire this guy lol
They forgot my order for sure had to ask to times and then it came, no service and you ask for the waiters to come, for a busy place i would hace thought the waitress/waiters would be accustomed to good service next time instead of a 3 dollar tip ill dont do anything
They're not welcoming. To even ask for a seat at the bar I had to beg someone. 0/10 for me. I only had a PBR. Not even worth that.
Called for an order for takeout, told them I have an egg allergy and was assured it would be taken care of. Had a nasty allergic reaction and when I called asking for money back manager told me to come in person and hung up on me even though I said I was already out of Manhattan. For a $ 27 cheeseburger you’d think they’d actually give a damn about allergies but now I’m stuck with an allergic reaction all day and $27 less. Would not recommend, get a real burger with nice service at corner bistro
Came here with a bunch of coworkers on a Friday. The bar tender was simply put miserable. She had zero desire to be warm and welcoming. My first round of beers were $26 and I gave her $40 told her to keep the change. Ordered a few more rounds tipping in between. You'd think that with the large group of us being friendly and good tippers she'd have a great evening. My final straw was when I ordered a hotdog with fries and a Guinness. She tells me it's $26 (this is an old picture. The hotdog went up to $11.00) so I may have had a few drinks but I wasn't incoherent. I go, I ordered a hotdog with fries and a Guinness. The Guinness is $8, hotdog and fries $11, how is it $26? She says the fries. I go, the fries are included. She's like. No they're not. So I look at the menu, under sandwiches is my hotdog. I literally say to her "$11 for a hotdog?" Her answer? "I don't make the prices" Done. This place has zero ambiance, they couldn't care less if we show up with a party of 30 people that all tip heavily since we're all in The customer service industry as well No problem. I pay my tab and leave after I finish my final round. Last time I'll set foot in this place again.
I always come here. I was working and I forgot my air pods. And in find my, it showed that the location was in the restaurant for a week until it died. I called immediately and they said they were busy and that they had AirPods in the office and that by the phone it would be imposible to know which one was mine. (Cause they said they had a couple) I showed up and the same story. Nobody had access to the office or helped me while the location was still there. I don't want to think that you took them, but they were there for a week, and nobody took care of it. I'm so disappointed. Hopefully someone can take care of it.
In all my years of dining out, this was by far the worst experience. Mostly because of the service. We were seated outside and when the waitress girl with longer brown wavy hair pulled into a braid in back, came to take our order, she didn’t write anything down. She just walked up to the table and stared at us with an irritated look. Then she said, “what do you guys want?” She didn’t ask if we wanted a salad or fries with our order (I realized later that we had a choice) and she got one of the orders wrong. One of our party had to get up and go ask at the front for some ketchup (because the bottle we were given had very little ketchup) and more water. The water glasses were tiny. She didn’t check on us to see if we needed anything. The BLT was okay but the steak sandwiches and cheeseburger, which was supposed to be only a burger were mediocre, according to the rest of our party. The waitress was cold and inattentive and acted as if we were putting her out. While we were still eating after we got our food (which was about 20 minutes) the cold waitress came up and started taking our plates. I wasn’t finished with my food and she started taking my plate and I had to grab my sandwich off the plate. She didn’t offer any take out bags/boxes and just walked away. Then she brought the card machine for payment and stood there looking at me and was watching what I was putting in for a tip. It was very intimidating and her service did not warrant a tip. We did not leave a tip and she went over and started talking to the owner and was pointing at us. We left and I would not return to this place. It really surprises me that based on others reviews of what sounds like the same waitress, that she is still there and her behavior condoned by management. I hope that some day she will find the right job for her personality.
