Curry Express Allston Reviews
Ordered a couple different dishes (delivery), all delicious. Plus they have Chicken 65. They threw in a couple extras too, maybe because it was our first time ordering? Won’t be the last!
Outstanding food, best chai I've ever had. This is my go to for a great tasting dinner or takeout.
Swift service and tasty food! A great option for not only spicy dishes, but also simple home cooked ones (kadai curries here are comfort food)
For around $17 you will get a good amount of food with amazing flavor. I got the lamb biriyani (spice level spicy) and it was delicious. If you are a person of color who enjoys spicy food it was leveled appropriately. It also comes with free masala chai.
My friend and I stumbled upon this place, and it was so delicious (Saag paneer and veggie momos). The portions are huge and come with a big plate of rice. You can choose your spice level. They offer free masala chai you can enjoy while you wait for your food. The food was so good we forgot to take a picture 🤣 Ramesh the man who served us was lovely. This place is clearly a great spot since there were a ton of people doing take out.
Today was my first time coming to Curry Express, and wow! I’m so happy I live close to this gem of a restaurant now! My friend and I enjoyed every dish (I had the Dal Chicken and shared Vegetable Momo Dumplings with my friend) and felt as though we were welcomed to someone’s home. Ramesh’s service, which was kind, swift, and amazing (in addition to the food!) definitely makes me want to come back again! I wish I took photos of the food, but out of excitement and hunger I ate it all without remembering to do so. This is a must go to place! Ooo and they serve free masala chai, which was sooooo good too!
Unassuming Indian restaurant right on highland avenue. Honestly I might’ve never gone here if I wasn’t sitting at the bar at Highland Kitchen looking across the street. Well anyways we got hungry and I went across the street to order takeout. The staff were friendly and courteous and the food was ready quickly. We liked the meals and felt like the value was very fair. I will say the spice level at “medium” was good and actually had a bit of kick. Will be returning!
Despite being picky eater I loved the food and it came out super fast. Good service and everyone was very friendly and nice:), will try something new next time I come here.
This is my favorite restaurant for both dine - in and online orders. They offer excellent service and delicious Nepali and Indian food. I highly recommend giving it a try! Plus , they offer free traditional Nepali masala tea every day for everyone.
"Just had the most incredible dining experience at this hidden gem! The Nepali and Indian dishes were authentic, flavorful, and generously portioned. The service was top-notch - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance was cozy and intimate, perfect for a friends and family. Can't wait to come back and try more of their delicious offerings! Highly recommend!"
A first for me...Nepalise food. Whilst Curry Express has all the standard Indian dishes you would expect, I went exclusively for two Nepalise dishes. Lamb Momo dumplings and Chicken Hakka Noodles. Both excellent, flavorful and well priced. This place is a real locals spot and was glad I tried it based on previous Google reviews.
We love the food at Curry Express and have ordered takeout and delivery since they opened. Their dishes do not all taste similar as in other places and so we often get a variety to enjoy the delicious flavors of each entree. We decided to eat in yesterday to see what the food is like when eaten right as it is ready. They have 3 plastic booths. They mostly do takeaway/delivery so the place is small - set up looks like a former pizza place. We had baigan bhartha, saag paneer, chili shrimp. Each entree comes with a container of rice and a papadum. We ordered all to be medium hot which is nicely hot. Everything was delicious and the staff are very nice. You can order online and I believe it is $5 off $35 or $10 off $70. We order here a lot because many dishes are gluten free. Try their delicious food!
I ordered a giant lunch on Uber eats and was extremely happy. Very fast delivery. Asked for everything to be extra spicy and they delivered and it tasted authentic. Has a lot of Indian food in the city, and this is one of the best. Also great for cost compared to other options since they have a giant menu and much better prices compared to others. I ordered veg momos, samosas, chili paneer, Gobi 65, Laso Gobi, and samosa chaat. Gobi 65 was my favorite since it was fried perfectly with the kick from the extra hot red chilis. Really enjoyed every thing else too so highly recommend. Laso Gobi tasted good, samosa chaat was a bit different take than typical restaurants and also had a bhel puri esque topping. That was a welcome surprise. Samosa is standard, and I got the veg memos as making it different compared to other Indian restaurants. They come with two dipping sauces that are different form typical Indian dips. I thought the chili paneer was a bit oily but still good overall.
I had a huge craving for curry when I was in Boston this past weekend. I was staying in the Somerville area and decided to check out Curry Express based on their raving reviews! I walked in and first thing I noticed was how clean the establishment is. I ordered the curry goat with roti, while I was waiting for my food the cashier offered me a free cup of masala, which was so, so good! The curry goat was a perfect spicy and the was super tender! The flavors were so authentic. To my surprise they included what I believe was rice pudding, which was a great palate taster. I highly recommend this place if you are craving some authentic Indian Food!
Ordered vegetarian chat items and they were ok. Pani Puri was a disappointment (no sweet chutney was provided), but overall decent food choice.
I have ordered their vegetarian to go tiffin many times and it has become my go to whenever I don’t feel like cooking but still want food with a home cooked vibe. The dal makhani and mixed vegetable korma are my absolute favorites. They both are delicious, comforting and very filling. The food consistently feels wholesome and satisfying just like a home cooked meal. Highly recommended if you are craving simple, tasty vegetarian food that hits the spot.
We had pani puri here which was very forgettable and taste was lacking flavor. Puri were made with cheap substitute . You can buy pack of 3 puri(s) in costco for $7-8. I recommend using that and add bit more spices in pani puri. Samosa was good and appreciated the complimentary masala tea.
Indian takeout spot that keeps it light on MSG, heavy on spices. I’ve grabbed takeout from this spot a couple of times, and unlike many takeout-focused Indian places that tend to go heavy on the MSG, the food here has a lighter touch—which I definitely appreciate. The flavors are a bit more subtle, but they don’t hold back on the spices and still keep things aromatic and satisfying. So far, I’ve tried the vegetable pakora, shrimp biryani, and a few chicken dishes. Both the pakora and shrimp biryani were solid, and the only underwhelming dish was the Tandoori Chicken. It was incredibly dry—even the thigh meat was tough to get down without some veggies or sauce on the side. It tasted like it had been freezer-bound for ages, and the chicken breast was practically rock-hard. Surprisingly, the other chicken dish I tried, the Chicken 65, was a totally different story: tender, flavorful, and packed with spice. The default heat level was intense, so I’d definitely recommend pairing it with the yogurt sauces that come with the entrées.
So I got my order quickly. When I arrived to pick it up it was a bit weird. The place was quiet. No one was in the kitchen, and only the owner and one worker in the main area. I took some pictures and he asked why I was taking pictures, and I stated for my review. He acted as though he couldn't hear me, I had to repeat myself 3xs.No biggie. I grab my bag and leave. This is what I ordered: 1 Basmati Rice (Side Orders) $2.95: I was given extra rice by mistake I think, because you have to pay for rice. The flavor was off with it at the end, so I just decided to tossed that other container. Verdict: OKAY. 1 Green Chili Chicken (Everyday Curry Specials) Mild | $16.95: I love a bit of heat, but kept everything mild because I was unsure at how my stomach would do. The chicken was dried out. I only had one piece that was nice and juicy, which is weird when it is smothered in sauce. Not much flavor in the sauce besides the heat. I think this dish and the Baigan Bharta had the same base, because they looked the same. Verdict: OKAY. 1 Baigan Bharta (Vegetable Entrees) Mild | $15.95: My peas were not cooked and still a bit raw. The eggplant was not in chunks but masticated. Tasty, but shockingly a bit bland for what I expected. Still good, but nothing to write home about. Verdict: OKAY. I was so bummed by my meal. I was looking for the bold rich flavors. It did help my fever break. I was feeling an little sick so the heat in the meal helped me feel better, but it wasn't super flavorful. Verdict: OKAY.
This is the first time i've eaten at this venue, and its their second weekend being open. They have a big menu with lots of items. Ordered via beyondmenu. Got an order confirmation by email, but no followup ETA on when to pick it up. Guessed 30 min and stopped by on a Saturday evening and it was hot and ready. Friendly staff, good packaging (paper bag, no styrofoam, all recyclable plastics and foil containers). Papadums were little rounds and were excellent. Veggie samosas good, a little salty for my taste. tiffin box with chicken curry and sag paneer was ok, but the mild was spicier than expected. Rice was normal with several cloves and a big leaf. Medium Paneer curry was expected level of heat. Generous paneer portion. Kheer was added to our order on the house, and was good. Garlic naan was decent. I haven't had a lot of Chapati Roti before, so I'm not sure what to compare this to - but this version seemed either dry or undercooked and really wasn't to my taste. Vegetable momo dumpling looked promising, and 8 dumplings were included - but the filling was crazy dominated by onions, and wasn't to my taste. This part of Highland really can use good Indian food - and this review is for their second weekend being open - so i'm assuming they're working the kinks out. I hope to give them another shot because I want to see local businesspeople succeed - but i'll wait til I see some more positive reviews.
