Love this place, especially their breakfast specials. They always have great service and excellent food at at a very great price.
I had the breakfast special with scrambled eggs with chopped ham. Hashbrowns. Homemade biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was very good. I got the hot sauce in the side . Very good flavor on the sauce as well. Will be back to try lunch or dinner for sure.

Really good breakfast spot. Sometimes I get a to go or or sometimes I dine in.. just depends what I have going on that day. Love the breakfast burritos with potatoes when I'm getting it to go..my go to when I dine in is huevos rancheros. They have daily specials. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Price point is very reasonable. Real food from this place or genetically modified bioengineered food from McDonald's that costs more? El Jalapeno Cafe always. Thanks guys!
Great food from the breakfast burritos to the tostada plate, you can't go wrong here. Plus the staff and service is A+
This place is a hidden gem! Flavors are bold and well balanced. I had a soft taco, tostada, and green chicken enchilada. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the spice level for the verde sauce was excellent; not too much, but still had that slow build burn. The beans were rich in flavor. Prices were very fair for the portion size and taste. Staff was polite and attentive.
Best prices and delicious food. The asada fries are amazing.
This place has amazing food!!!! By far our new favorite Mexican restaurant in town!! The service is great they are very nice and attentive.
Amazing I love their food it’s a lot of food for pretty cheap! I was going to post a picture of my breakfast plate I had got this morning but I ate it before I even thought to do a review that’s what always happens that’s how good it is!! Check em out Amarillo!
Great food and service . All food is awesome and they’ve remodeled and the place looks really nice. I usually go for a fine breakfast but lunch is really good as well. Great family run business. . This is a hidden gem you should definitely try out. Love this place.
Restaurant is small but the food was hearty
This is a very good place. A nice and authentic feel. The breakfast options are really good. Service is great and clean place. Plenty of places to sit. And fair prices. Been going for years definitely recommend.
I love this cute little place. Food is always so fresh and tasty. Wait staff is quick and friendly. What’s not to love?
The food was amazing and the staff was some if the best I have ever met.

El Jalapeño Café has been a Southlawn Plaza staple for a long time, holding on as the retail center has faded over the years. Stepping into the cafe feels a bit like a time capsule with old cafe decor going strong. We came for lunch on a Monday at about 11:45am and there were three open tables. We sat ourselves and were greeted quickly. Service was fast and friendly here. The chips are tostitos-style and the salsa is thin but flavorful. Our entrees were served on 90s style restaurant trays. I had the three cheese enchiladas plate and added two eggs on top. The sauce is a classic Tex-Mex type. The eggs were cooked perfectly. My partner had the No. 6 - one each of a tostada, taco, enchilada, and tamale. Based on past menu posts it looks like the cafe hasn't raised prices for at least 18 months, if not longer, and much of the menu is under $10. The cafe seems to be standing still in time but continues to serve up a good breakfast and lunch. They're open 7:30-2 Monday to Saturday.
Homestyle Mexican American and even speciality plates likes posole and menudo here. Reasonable prices. Local whites and hispanic clientele speaks to universality of the menu appeal. Despite the namesake, food can be ordered mild or not spicy.

Great hideaway breakfast spot. Wonderful food and staff, reasonable prices and great coffee..pancakes are really good..
I ordered a Menudo to go, it was really good… but it was such a small amount. They pack it in hefty containers you buy at Sams. I think they should do 32 ounce cups which is the standard to go and even raise the price to $15 which is the standard. They should also include cilantro with their onions and limes.

Very nice people and a great value! The food is good, especially for the price. I can't eat very much anymore and it's nice to have places with some smaller, less expensive options. I usually have an asada lunch burrito for something like $4. 👍 They have great priced breakfast specials, as well.
I assume it is because we annoyed the staff by making changes to the burritos we ordered but there was an inedible amount of cheese on the to go burritos we ordered.
Hubby and I went for the 1st time last week . We got enchiladas and my cheese one was decent . The chips and salsa were not good , I feel like they opened a bag of knock off tostitos and a jar of pace . I don't mean to complain so much, but when you walk in the pine Sol smell was way over bearing, I love that it was so clean and the service was great, BUT I couldn't finish my food because the floor cleaner made me lose my appetite. Probably will continue to go to La Frontera.

Food was just so far different in expectations. Service was a half attempt. The atmosphere was non-existent .
