Los Bagels Arcata Reviews
Growing up in Arcata I spent most of my lunch breaks hitting this spot in high school. Every time I travel back to the area I load up on a dozen to take home to Morro Bay. This place has great bagels and trust me I am a bagel junkie! Should be ranked on Californias top bagel shop list. Kick ass spot
If you want delicious food this is the place, im not usually a fan of cheese with eggs, but the way they make their egg and cheese bagel sandwich is DELISH! Fast service too!
Good spot. Celiac-friendly with two gluten-free options, including a dedicated toaster in a dedicated gluten-free area, complete with staff doing glove changes for my order. You can request gluten-free bagels “from the back” that aren’t stored next to the regular bagels. The coffee was also good.
Been coming here for decades. Locally owned and operated by wonderful people. As a vegetarian I get the cheese scrambagel or the veggie delight. They have GF and vegan options and yummy baked goods.
If you're visiting Eureka/Arcata you have to stop by Los Bagels for breaky. Great selections of bagels and toppings, pastries, coffees, and other items to start your day. I especially love their salty side topping. I managed to stop by, both directions on my trip along the coast and will next time too!
Love this place! Fresh food, awesome area and super cool vibe ☮️ The street picture is no longer accurate of the layout. They have converted the left side parking lot into outdoor seating. This really makes for an inviting place to chill if you are not sitting in the equally as inviting inside. Grabbed an everything bagel with creme cheese. Everything was fresh, simple and spectacular! For sure check this place out during a morning grind session. You'll love everything about it especially the staff.
Ok, so, short story of how we ended up here - back in the 80s, my mom lived in the apartment right above the music shop, which is located across the way from Los Bagels. When I told her I was here visiting Arcata, she mentioned a bagel place near her old abode. I'm not sure if it's the exact same bagel place, but sure enough, we found bagels.... and yummmmm I really enjoyed the vibe, especially the friendliness of the staff (that's huge for me as I worked at Starbucks for over a decade. Good customer service is key). I got a jalapeño bagel, toasted with cream cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, and "slug slime," which is an everything topping (sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion, and garlic? I'm not 100% on that, but it's bomb!). My bagel was so delicious and I am grateful. These bagels remind me of the ones from New York in the Jewish neighborhoods; smaller and dense as they are water boiled. Thank you so much for my breakfast, Irene and Brie. You all are awesome - thanks for being here 🫶
We did not stumble across this place by accident. A friend knew we were going up north and asked if it was not too far out of the way if we could pick up some of the mustard sauce this place is locally known for. Since it was about lunch time anyway we decided to eat here. Staff was friendly the food was amazing and the vibe was chill. They also carried my new favorite caned drink Armless Palmer and Reed’s “strongest” which I had never seen before and very excited to try. Back to the food, they didn’t it hold back on the fixings of the Izzy’s Guac & Lox. I will definitely need to thank my friend for the stop.
This review is long overdue! My bf and I had spent the night in Arcata and decided to grab some breakfast before we left. Wow what a great decision that was. To begin, we walked in and not two mins later there was a line out the door-we missed the crowd. We chatted with the very nice people in line and looked at all the wonderful breads. As we were paying for our bagel sandwiches one of the staff members gives us the loaf of bread we were admiring! Already enjoying the atmosphere that seemed palpably aligned, we ate our food. The bread melted in our mouths, the bagels were delicious and crafted with good ingredients and their chai was the best I’ve ever had. We love this place and think about it often. Can’t wait to go back. Thanks Los Bagels for a wonderful memory.
If you are looking for a quick place to have a delicious breakfast, lunch or snack - look no further. This. Is. It. Excellent bagel shop, a must go every time I come visit. The bagels are delicious and fresh. So many unique things about this place - I love that they make ‘slugs’ which are long bagels instead of circular, the home made everything bagel seasoning that they refer to as ‘slug slime’ is spectacular, and the fact that you can get larrupin (local dill mustard that is amazing). They have an awesome menu with lots of different options but you can also make your own. If you are new to the area or just visiting , make sure to take a jar of larrupin sauce home and a bottle of their slug slime! It is 100% worth it. They always have a great selection of their merch and local items to take home - although it might seem slightly pricey these are all excellent quality and worth every penny. The staff was friendly and service was fast. Additionally, they have GREAT Covid precautions. Everyone I saw was masked, no indoor eating and the tables outside were well spaced out. I felt completely safe and comfortable.
Hands down the best bagelry I’ve ever been too! If you’re in town or passing by this is a must. Great bagels made fresh and with super fresh ingredients. My favorite is the Slug bagel with their famous slug slime everything topping. You can also buy their topping bottled to take home. This visit I had the slug with cream cheese, lox, capers, and red onion. It was soooo good! ❤️
This place came highly recommended from two folks familiar with the area including a local. I'm always in search of decent bagels outside of New York. I had the Grandpa Goren which has lox, cream cheese, red onions and capers. I was only going to eat half but ended up eating the whole thing. I couldn't even wait to take a picture before taking a bite. It's hard to say how it compares to New York bagels since that test, at least for me, works on untoasted with just cream cheese to see if it's crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. My husband, whose test involves a toasted bagel with cream cheese, insists that it is pretty good. The line got pretty long after we arrived but try seem to move quickly. Lots of seating outside in picnic benches. Restroom is pretty clean too.
While on a road trip through the area we decided to stop here for breakfast. The vibe/energy was great and the food was even better. The service was quick and the employees were happy to answer all of our questions since the menu is pretty extensive with sooo many options. Delicious coffee, amazing bagels, great service. 100% 5/5 stars. Don't miss this place.
Funny how my overall rating came out to 4 stars when I gave 3 stars for 3 categories. Google's math ain't mathing. I went here twice, from out of town so this pace was new to me. Got a dozen bagels cheap on sale 1st time, they were fabulous, and froze them to eat over time, loved them, tender, delicious. I thought this is great and next I came through, I got another dozen. They were hard and dense, all 5 varieties ordered. Not sure why the quality is so different from my first visit but the company would probably be able to say. Not a fan now and I probably won't try them again unless it's just one bagel as a test. I only go through Eureka every few months so I guess will have to look for other sources of fresh bagels. I know this place is an icon, but I can't buy a dozen bagels at costs these days and be dissatisfied.
The day I went was a weekday and the wait was quite long. The bagels were just okay, the coffee was also just okay. I think you could get the same quality with store bought bagels honestly. They didn't explain the menu the best and seemed more annoyed because we had questions, but we had never been before so we didn't know how everything worked when ordering. We also had a larger group which made it a little difficult. I would try again next time we visit, but our experience wasn't the best.
Run down absolutely filthy place of business needs a proper crew to function food is sub par and overpriced bagels cost pennies to bake which they do and considering who their staff is the quality is poor and questionable they overprice them horribly as well ive had the salmon whatever they nick named it very tacky and cheap to do that its a salmon bagel they gave me a 1/4 fillet of salmon i paid over 20$ after tax i believe within 22-25$ they could have given me the whole fillet which here in Humboldt is easy and cheaply acquirable in the local fish market or at winco for less than 15$ a lb fresh caught salmon i mean i doubt they use that so this means your receiving frozen salmon which is like 5$ a lb at any major grocery store as a chef this is extremely insulting to the food industry i only see drunk college kids eat here and minors of course because they are non the wiser or simply uneducated about food not cool to take advantage of people like this especially children
My wife is allergic to jalapeños, got a guacamole topped bagel and she said it tasted spicy. I went and asked them if it had jalapeños in it, they said no, my wife said it really tasted spicy so she went up and asked three of the counter workers to which they all said no, the man who was at the register with glasses kind of had an attitude about it, insisting there was no jalapeños, then the girl behind the counter said to double check the recipe, low and be hold- jalapeños. We paid 50 dollars for 2 bagels and this is the service, they refunded only that sandwich which I appreciated but I explicitly said its cause I have an allergy and they all said no multiple times without even checking. Not going back.
