Bar Chi Sushi Austin Reviews
Finnegan was a patient server answering a ton of our questions and offering great suggestions. Lovely evening all around. Tuna Pizza, seaweed salad and Samarai Roll were tremendous.
The food and staff were wonderful. Portions and taste were big! Parking is validated at certain spots so be sure to check website before you head out.
Excellent experience at BarChi Sushi. The rolls were fresh, well balanced, and beautifully presented, and the fish tasted high quality. Service was friendly and efficient, with good recommendations for specialties. The atmosphere was modern and comfortable, and everything felt clean and well run. Great value for the portion sizes—definitely coming back.
I had the sushi platter and the edamame. I had their old fashioned for a drink (two actually) and they were AMAZING! The food was great. I liked the music they played in the restaurant. It was a bit echoey so probably not the best for a dinner where you’re making conversation. I sat at the bar solo and it was fine. I’d definitely go back!
Wow, what a great Austin find. The sushi was great and severs all friendly and helpful. Great happy hour specials and reasonable prices. In town for only a few days and went twice. Even returned my sunglasses I left behind the night before. Recommended and you won’t be disappointed. You will be happy you went there.
BarChi Sushi really impressed me — the décor is modern and stylish, with a fun, welcoming vibe. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable, and the service was great from start to finish. I ordered the chef’s sashimi variety, grilled octopus skewers, miso soup, and calamari — everything was fresh and delicious. Their happy hour runs until 7:00 p.m. (an hour longer than most places!) and has a great variety of options, not just the typical limited menu. Prices were very fair for a trendy downtown spot. I’ll definitely be back — can’t wait to bring my wife next time!
Josue, my bartender, was extremely hospitable and quick to provide excellent service. Nina, my server, was very friendly and extremely helpful when it came to the menu and service. The lunch menu is an amazing deal in downtown Austin. The only “issue” (if you could call it that) was the music selection, but that’s just because my taste differs from others. All in all a solid 8/10
BarChi Sushi offers a fantastic happy hour menu with a wide variety of appetizers, sushi nigiri, rolls, and more to choose from. The sushi and appetizers were B+ but considering the price was an A. While the drink selection was somewhat limited, the quality was still impressive, complementing the dishes well. One thing I wish I knew was they have validated parking in certain nearby garages. The atmosphere was also nice for a date – the low-lit vibe gave it an evening dinner feel even in the middle of the day. Overall, BarChi Sushi is a great spot for delicious food and a cool ambiance, especially during happy hour.
This is my second time here and it was delicious. We came for happy hour and got to try a bunch of things at good price. The pizza with the truffle oil is a must. The bacon wrapped scallops hit the spot. I must return to taste all the Nigiri options. Everything was fresh and melted in my mouth. The tempura cheesecake dessert was a perfect way to finish the evening. The drinks were tasty and strong.
I was parking and a homeless guy started to harass my wife. We normally sit outside but she ran in and got the manager for help and he was the man! He made sure the harasser left the area. Thank goodness or I would have gone to jail. Food is awesome, prices for happy hour is awesome. We have been a Bar Chi fanatic for over 10 years and thank you manager! We will continue to be customers for life!
We ate here last night. It was easy to get an outdoor table. Our server was friendly and fast. I had the spicy girl signature roll and my husband had the fried rice. He really enjoyed his dish. I asked the server to recommend a dish for me that had some kick and did it! The prices were very reasonable also.
Overall a decent sushi restaurant with fresh ingredients. However, I just can’t give 5 stars to a Japanese restaurant which uses fake wasabi (colored horseradish with some seasoning). Also no (obvious) dedicated parking… the “free street parking” is just never available because it’s close to 6th street - good luck finding where to park
Fantastic happy hour pricing for food and drinks. We had 3 rolls, calamari, a pop, and a couple of beers for under $50. I loved my tempura shrimp roll. Tried the bf and they were too fishy for me. LOL!!! He liked them. Servers were okay. We are used to service where the person doesn't act like they hate their life and are on the edge of quitting. Also LOL!! Did get good suggestions for what to try for what we were in the mood for.
I ordered the bacon and scallop skewer, ceviche tostada, shiitake mushroom skewer, grilled squid, dynamite roll, and coconut pineapple juice. The only thing I would get again is their shiitake mushroom skewer. I might go again and just get that only. It had an umami and charred taste but still juicy, so good! I went on a Sunday so it’s happy hours all day. The ceviche tostada was the worst. It was flavorless and fish didn’t taste good. The bacon and scallop was decent. The dynamite roll crawfish was a bit underseasoned and it came out cold. The grilled squid need a bit more flavor. The coconut pineapple juice was more like coconut milk and pineapple. I was thinking of them using coconut juice because of the name.
I’ve been coming to Barchi for about 4.5 years now, usually have a good experience. On Monday night 10/13, a friend and I sat at the bar. Menus were dropped off and the bartender said last call for happy hour at 6:45. He came back to take our order and while my friend was mid order, the bartender interrupted and said” are ya hungry?” With such an attitude and honestly very demeaning. It made us very uncomfortable. Yes, we came to your restaurant hungry, isn’t that the whole point of being there? We are both in the service industry and were just taken aback by the whole thing. Work on your customer service skills and if you feel the need to say something rude unwarranted, please internalize it like the rest of us.
Where to begin. I visit to Bar Chi Sushi on November 10. I was there with five others — a rare night out together — and I left genuinely disappointed in how the situation was handled. Shortly after we ordered, the fire alarm began sounding and continued for approximately 35–45 minutes. Throughout that time, we attempted to ask staff if everything was normal or if we needed to evacuate, but no one seemed to know what was going on or how to guide guests. As a result, we left the building several times and checked back intermittently to see if our food was ready. When it finally was, we returned to eat — still with the alarm blaring. I understand that alarms happen and that some things are out of your control, but what concerned me most was the lack of direction, communication, or acknowledgment from the staff. It left us wondering whether this is the standard for how situations like this are managed at Bar Chi. It certainly didn’t align with the level of professionalism or care I expect. There was no offering of compensation, and when we asked, we brushed off and told that there would be no forms of compensation for the delay. I am extremely disappointed in how this was handled and would caution others. There are much better tasting restraints around that value a high quality dining experience.
