Enchiladas Y Mas Austin Reviews
Amazing, I can't believe it took me so long to try this place. Best enchiladas Ive ever had hands down!
We love Y Mas. It's not for everyone, but those folks just don't get it. Friendly staff and the owners are genuine. Small menu but get a frozen and enjoy. Migas all day, yes.
I was a regular at the old location in the early 90s. I never come to Austin without a visit. Get the migas. ❤️
Over MANY years eating there and their previous location, I have never been disappointed. Once they even let me have a "never ending" until I had my fill platter of delicious tacos!! I recently checked to see if that was still possible, and IT IS! BTW, one had best remember that all their dishes are quite plentiful!!! I have both dined in and used takeout for both lunch and dinner.
Hole in the wall place with consistently good food, service, and community. It definitely needs some facilities upgrades, but we doubt those are coming. It's way too loud for older people.
first off let me say, this place is AMAZING. Great margaritas, and theyre strong. Great tasting food, and the service was so nice
Very friendly atmosphere. The food is simply outstanding. Good portions were very good and filling. Service was good and we were checked on frequently. One thing we did notice was how many customers were waiting for the restaurant to open. Many we found out were repeat. Overall it was a great experience, very good Mexican food at reasonable prices. Although we were from out of town, we occasionally go to Austin to visit the Capitol. We definitely will return to Enchiladas Y Mas. It was a fabulous and very enjoyable experience, and we highly (5**** stars) recommend it to anyone who visits…or lives in Austin!!🌮🍺
Having moved about 40 miles away, I have been unable to eat here like I would want over the past few years. But, my wife and I came in last week and our “joyful” palates were rewarded with some of the best Tex-Mex one could ever have!! So glad we got back ! Am now thinking of selling our current home and moving back ! I’ll try not to stay away too long !
Woahh, super delicious back when I was just a youngster nostalgia with how they roll on Tex-Mex. The hot sauce is spicy and delicious just how I like it. The beef is on point and goes well with any meal and yes I tried the enchiladas rancheros and it was delicious. Definitely coming back soon. Thanks for being some true Tex Mex ❤️
Austin staple for great Tex-Mex food. Sometimes you gotta wait but it’s worth it.
Margarita's is great here. Food is great here, the plates are still hot with good enchiladas. Chips and salsa is good. wished I had taken pictures but I was drunk. Lol . I've been going here for years and the same delicious food is always on point.
Restaurant version of a dive bar but THE BEST enchiladas in town. Food is great but hot sauce is wildly hot!!! People are nice & service is good & fast!
YUM! This was some good tex mex with amazing margaritas! Parking can definitely be difficult but the food is totally worth it.
Many years ago, there was a small restaurant in Longview called Gonzalo's. The owner was the brother of the gentleman who has owned Enchiladas y Mas since time immemorial. These two places are part of a dying breed of family owned Tex Mex, and they're a treasure. There's no "fusion" or "authentic", it's just folks making family recipes in the same spot for decades. You can't replace these places; the atmosphere and the taste and smells are memories of Texas. Don't miss out on a treasure because it's not downtown or right on the interstate.
Mom and pop shop with great tamales and margaritas. I’ve been going here since I moved to Austin in 2014 and this place doesn’t disappoint. I get the comida regular without onions and a beef fajita taco instead of the crunchy, do it. The margaritas will get you feeling good and quick!
I love going there the food is Delicious 😋🤤 Liked the margaritas.
Delicious and fast for lunch. Large portions and super friendly staff!
Just went to lunch on a Sunday. All was delicious, as usual. HOWEVER, sign was posted annoucing they will be CLOSED ON SUNDAYS STARTING JUNE 6...... .... After being closed due to Covid 19, this venerable Austin institution has reopened. Between closing in the spring and reopening recently, the business was acquired by the daughters of the original Founders. So when you return to Enchiladas y Mas now, they have the same recipes, same sauces, same everything! They do have covid-19 socially distanced seating arranged, which means it is not crowded anymore. I was out with spouse at this location recently. There is consistently excellent food in a low budget setting. This is the gold standard for Tex-Mex in the Austin area, in my opinion. The guacamole is excellent, and I always enjoy their cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. Lots of other choices are available...tacos and chalupa compuestas are also favorites. They're well known for delicious margaritas, if that's your sort of thing. Our two meals of 2 cheese enchiladas, rice and beans included corn tortillas, and chips and salsa at no extra cost. The chips are served warm and the salsa is spicy but not excessive. Add in a couple Cokes and our tab was less than $26.00 including sales tax. .........Note the pic of a meal recently which was Chalupa Compuestas, Fajita Salad with beef and chicken combination and two soft drinks....$25.21 before tip
Food is always very good here. My go to is the cheese enchilada plate with the meat gravy, cheese sauce and onions on top served with rice and beans. They serve a good amount and it comes with chips and salsa. Mmmm mmmm 😋
It was our first time and we were not disappointed. It was AWESOME!! We had beef enchiladas, beans and rice. beef fajitas quesadillas , crispy tacos The service was great, we had to put our name on a waiting list, it took about 10 minutes before getting a table. If you ever had the chance to eat a Jorge's Mexican restaurant ( on Hancock dr ) way back in a day they have some of the same recipes. We loved Jorge's Parking in tight, the restaurant itself is kinda small. The food was served quickly and it was hot. The froze. margaritas were very strong, I couldn't finish mine. We will be back very soon. ! !
I am glad this place reopened. Great food. Large portions and great prices!
Some of the BEST i've ever had!! Cannot wait to go back *update* I have been coming here at least once a month for the past 5 years and they just keep getting better and better every time. I will advise that you need to look out for the salsa as it is a little bit on the spicy side
The food was delicious and now I know what all the hype was about. Great food!!
I ate there From when they open until I moved away, I wish they were up here in Tennessee where I’m at best Mexican food in Austin, Texas
PS Update - This review was posted late. A car ran into the building recently and this location is currently closed until they can fix all damage. I ordered the beef enchiladas with rice and beans. Wife got the cheese enchiladas. Both were amazing as was the queso. The salsa was too spicy for me but I kept eating it 😂🥵
My favorite Tex Mex in Austin and probably my favorite restaurant period. Very grimy but well operated and great staff. Locals brought me here when I first moved to Austin 8 years ago. The first things I noticed was the chips and hot serrano salsa is amazing. The queso is amazing. And that frozen margarita is a game changer that hits hard and transports you into delightfully hilarious conversations. Stop at 2. Food is pretty good especially the steak fajita tacos. Go for vibe and experience. I try to go as often as possible.
Small town texmex feel with gargantuan flavor. Eat here if you want to feel like a local. Unapologetic authenticity. So authentic they no longer even have a sign. This hopping joint gets by on reputation alone. The margaritas will have you singing. Unskippable. Best bang for your Tex Mex buck in Austin.
Our family has a long tradition of eating at enchiladas y mas. I remember the location from the central area of Austin. Best carne guisada in all of my life - they don't make it in New Mexico or California - I need that recipe y'all.
5/5 cheese enchiladas - im usually a chicken enchiladas girlie, but this was recommended, and are probably the best cheese enchiladas ive ever had. No complaints on rice & beans either. Plenty of sauce. Came with tortillas too. I loved everything about this dish. Plus its so affordable!! Must get! 5/5 chips & salsa - the chips by themselves have the right amount of salt. The salsa gets pretty spicy the more you eat it, had me huffin and puffin a little… how it should be :p Service is really slow. But the drink lady is really fast lol.
The ultimate dive Tex-Mex joint in Austin. Large portions of great food. Friendly service from folks who speak perfect Spanish.
Enchiladas y Mas has been one of my favorites since college 20+ years ago. I think of it as comfort food. They keep the prices as low as can be expected. I always have friendly service.
Amazingly delicious. Honestly, their salsa is in the running for the best. Not only in Austin, not only in Texas, in the U.S. And the enchiladas are up there, too. Don't let the hole in the wall look of the place fool you. This place needs to win some kind of award.
We love this place. Seriously wonderful food and best margs, great prices, amazing service. Can’t go wrong with Enchiladas Y Mas. Be prepared for a wait if it’s dinner time on the weekend, but it’s well worth it.
Simply fantastic ... great value for you $$$ ... super friendly. One caution ... may not be appropriate for children able to read. We saw some "colorful" language on a servers t-shirt ... not that there's anything wrong with that 🤭 ... I don't judge, nor do I really care that much, but you, the reader, may. More than likely, a chance, random incidence.
My favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Their chicken fajitas are insanely amazing. Margaritas are delicious and strong. Great salsa and chips. Great service. Though you may wait 30-45 minutes on busy nights, it’s totally worth it. Service is quick and everyone is nice. I love this place.
Arrived for lunch on Wednesday before 11 o’clock opening and there was a line formed already. We were seated quickly and soon had warm tortilla chips and spicy salsa in front of us to enjoy. Margaritas on the rocks were perfect, one with tajin. The only disappointment was the queso, it was like ballpark cheese. The entrees were exceptional and rival any other top Mexican food eateries in Austin. The crispy tacos were overstuffed and the guacamole was fresh and delicious with no preservative taste. The cheese enchilada were a top favorite. This small, quaint restaurant was like being in a small town neighborhood, regulars being greeted with hugs from wait staff. Can’t wait to return, will definitely be in a regular lunch rotation for us.
As I approached the entrance at 2pm I noticed people sitting by the front entrance. This made me think they are on the waiting list. So I walked in and no waiting list and we were seated right away. I ordered tea and the Chef Special plate. They brought out complementary chips and some really good and spicy salsa. When the plate arrived it was huge and the food was piled high. From start to finish everything was delicious, cooked perfectly, and the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. Inside the place looked like it has been around for a while but clean. The waitress was helpful and courteous. What I liked the most was the price and the huge portions. As I was leaving notice again different set of people waiting outside by the front… never figured out what that was about? Either way this is a great place to enjoy Mexican food. 👍
Frequently drive by this place thinking to myself wow look at the line, I should try it. Well I finally got to try and I must say I was not disappointed. The food was fantastic and extremely well priced. We got 2 large dinner plates and 2 rounds of drinks for less than $65. Margs only $7.75, can’t beat that in ATX! Enchilada with green sauce was remarkable 🤌🏻 and the fajitas were top notch. Staff was extremely kind and helpful. Enchiladas Y Mas will now be my go to spot for Mexican food and margs!
My husband and I stopped here for lunch today, we were in the mood for some Tex Mex and saw how many cars were outside, so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! The service was great, the salsa was AMAZING, and everything else we had was delicious! We will definitely be going back.
My friend took me there to eat for the first time the service was amazing the food was great and the atmosphere was nice this make it my second best place to go to

After several years away from Austin, I was extremely excited to find out that Enchiladas y Más is still going strong! The food was delicious, the service impressive if you take into consideration …
Recently discovered this little gem and have nothing but great things to say about this place. Its usually busy but worth the wait!
Fantastic Tex-mex food! This is old Jorge's mexican food with killer margaritas! Best beef fajitas and cheese enchiladas in town. The place is small but they move through folks pretty quickly. Lo…
It's the pinnacle of Tex Mex. Great margaritas and service. Highly recommended. Always worth the wait.
Their margaritas are sooooo good! I love how they have a separate runner for drinks and a waitress for food. The only thing that sucks is the wait time and parking.
This is our go-to Mexican restaurant in Austin. GREAT food and CHEAP drinks in a simple atmosphere. There is nothing special about the ambiance, but the food is so good and the prices are so reason…
Awesome place for enchiladas and frozen margaritas! The atmosphere is not fancy, but the food sure makes up for that. Service is very good and wait staff attentive.

This place reminded me of the Tex Mex I grew up with in West Texas. I was impressed with the chips and salsa and wonderfully stuffed crispy tacos. We didn't think the margaritas were special and very small. The largest disappointment was the commercial made tortillas. Fresh tortillas would have made this 5 star. I will go back and hope to bring other family members for the hit of nostalgia and pretty good food.
This place keeps popping up in breakfast recommendations. Beware that they do not open Sundays or Mondays. Tried some migas, they were ok. Had some ranchero enchiladas that were pretty good. The bus lady/server was very sweet and helpful. Should have caught her name. Will return to try some of her recommendations.
The food was fantastic and full of flavor. Service was friendly but very slow, so go with patience. Worth it for the food alone.
The food is good traditional Tex Mex. The prices are reasonable. The salsa is spicy, and in like spice. The margaritas are strong. We had the carne guisada and the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Also got the guacamole which was meh I would eat here again just for the good comfort food feeling and margaritas.
This is a fairly decent tex-mex joint, and for sure the Enchiladas were quite yummy. The Marguerita's were well seasoned with Tequila, so no complaints on that front. The salsa with the chips was a stunner, that had to be the hottest salsa I have ever been given, if I had know that I would have gotten a drink before giving it a try. The flavor was good, it was just hot! The only weirdness was the queso, not sure what was in with the cheese, but it was nothing like I have gotten before. So if you like Enchiladas and a good strong marguerita, it is worth checking out. It's a very casual and laid back place, so dress is very casual..
The staff was very hospitable and kind and nice. This is a good place if you like simple low variety or American Tex Mex- the neighborhood locals seem to really like this place. Unfortunately my friend and me both got two different things on the menu and we both ended up having the runs- so it was either the salsa and chips or the beans and rice.
I had been wanting to try this place for quite some time by now and it honestly wasn't a disappointment. The enchiladas had pretty good flavor, including the rice and beans. I loved the shredded chicken enchiladas with the red meat sauce. We went mid day and there was no wait, but they do have their says where it's crowded so be prepared. Would definitely come here again.
Met friends at Enchiladas Y Mas on Anderson Lane. This restaurant is definitely local with a neighborhood feel... looks like a previous home.. It has typical Tex mex food...enchiladas, tamales and …
Service was good and food was tasty. Nice little joint, it's worth a stop. Restaurant has a good ambiance and decor.
Fajitas are back to their regularly scheduled program . Where else can you get fajitas for two for $35? The beef and chicken combination is the best with lots of green peppers to boost. Get a froze…
Just okay. I read somewhere that this was supposed to be best that Austin has to offer. Lol. I had two shredded chicken enchiladas. Darn near tasteless. Oh well.

How is this place famous?? Other than being around a long time I guess. The food was OK at best, the service was fine but certainly nothing special, and I was left wondering if I had somehow slipped into a different Enchiladas Y Mas than everyone else has been going to.
Tried based on reviews which are overly generous. Lunch specials are limited and regular enchilada plates seem cheap until you see they charge $3 extra for rice and beans. Can't recall another Mexican restaurant that does this. The food is also just okay. I'd rather pay more and go to a place where the food is better and the place is better kept up. It does seem to be popular with locals I guess that maybe want to stay close by. There are some many better options though.
Cheap Tex Mex with fast service. Margaritas are cheap and they keep them coming fast. Food is average. Nothing popped out on the flavor side. Service was excellent. Fills up fast but they turn tables quick. Ask for a bar ticket of the wait is long. Lights out front are kept off, check for the "open' sign.
Really bizarre queso policy !!! Ordered queso with taco meat . Waitress delivered it with no meat. I told her she could just bring a side and we could just add it. She said the owners policy is that she has to take out some of the queso if she added taco meat. She took our queso emptied some out to add a teaspoon of taco meat . I will NEVER EVER order queso here again. The other couple we were with also ordered a small queso with taco meat and they also took their order back and removed some of the queso to add the teaspoon of taco meat. The picture is a large order of queso which most other restaurants would be considered a small. Fajita for 2 with beef and chicken was yummy . All the fixings plus a side of refried beans and a side of Mexican rice. The restaurant itself is super basic with no atmosphere what so ever. Just a place to get some Tex Mex food and a margarita.
I’m torn, the atmosphere is chill, but honestly very run down and dirty- especially the blinds, We were impressed by the prices and the amount of food…until the main courses arrived. Enchiladas were filled and covered in processed cheese! I cannot wrap my head around Mexicans using processed cheese for anything, let alone enchiladas. Texmex is not Mexican. The guacamole was prepared with fresh avocados, the salsa was flavorful, so why skimp on the cheese? Honestly blasphemous to Mexicans,
The food is mid . We had the chicken quesadillas and the cheese literally tasted like they used nacho cheese or slapped some cheese and warmed it up , I could’ve made better myself. I came here because I heard good things about this place , I will say though their salsa is very good and so spicy , the place will be good for only that and the drinks .
I've lived in Austin for 20 years now and have never tried Enchiladas y Mas. Today was the day! Sad to say, I was a little disappointed. Great portion size, looks great but taste is very bland. The salsa tastes like water and the Enchiladas looked great but lacked salt/pepper/cumin/chili or whatever they need to make it taste good. This was the general consensus across the table:( And no fresh flour tortillas!
Call before you go, they are either packed or they will just close early. good Tex mex, not great service. Too bad, it used to be the best!

Not a fan of this place. The Rice was bland, sodas were flat & taste mostly of the syrup & enchiladas tasted like the canned sauce you can get from HEB. Our waitress also took forever to bring us our check.
Long time customer but won't be going back. I got the enchiladas ranchero. Supposed to be cheese enchiladas with ground beef and two sauces. What I got was literally two folded empty corn tortillas, with no meat on top or in the sauce. No cheese in the enchiladas, and I think I found two pieces of beef swimming in a pool of red sauce. Service was not much better. This was the worst experience I have ever had and the quality just isn't there anymore. Adios!
So this review is coming from a HUGE FAN of enchiladas y mas! I’ve been coming here for the past 12 years easily! An amazing hidden gem of a restaurant, so when I say it hurts me to write this review truly it does! Me and my family come here to eat atleast 2-3 a month. Never had any issues. Ever. I ordered a fajita salad. I ate the guacamole on the outer side with the chips, and then started eating the salad all mixed together and noticed the meat was really cold. Like not cooked all the way. So I gave it the benefit of the doubt and took a few more bites, when I noticed the meat was just cold, I asked if there was a way to possibly re make the salad. I was told no because I had finished the whole salad already basically. I asked what could be done and they said they could bring me a fajita taco out so I could put some meat and mix it with the cold meat. By the actual owner. I was legit hurt because this is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. Truly. I gave it 2 starts because I plan on giving it another chance, maybe she was having a bad day or something, but I was just in awe that they didn’t want to do anything about it and told me nothing would be done since my whole salad was finished.
Overall, I think this is probably a good spot. However what I had was inedible. The beef enchiladas were bland. Mostly just corn tortillas with 2 tbsp of beef inside. The beans were the worst beans I've had and the rice had a weird texture. Also the table salsa was so hot that I couldn't even eat it. The tortilla chips were excellent though! Great prices. Some other tables food looked much better. Just the beef enchiladas, beans, and rice are bad.
Worst food ever. Weird bathroom waiting area. Ordered a quesadilla got Velveeta cheese in a tortilla.

They double charged my card, once when I was there, and then for a higher amount including a tip after I left. I would say pay in cash but combined with the long wait, mid grade food, and borderline antagonistic service I would recommend avoiding. It's Austin - there are plenty of other great options.
I am a regular customer and today the waitress staff seemed disengaged and at times unprofessional. There was one particular server who made me feel extremely uncomfortable with her attitude and lack of attentiveness. There was a lot of facial expressions with our waitrsss and other workers that was very obvious it was towards my table.
Was a very bad experience with no information provided; I got flour tortillas, was supposed to get corn flour but then the meat was too dry and wet not good to my tastebuds. Waitress was the manager when she didn’t even come to check on our table after dropping the food, so never again not recommended!!!
If you’re gonna double the price of your drinks/margaritas then use a bigger glass. Very disappointed. Seems a bit greedy to me. The small glass is NOT worth the price.
This was not close to Tex-Mex or Mexican food. The carne guisada was clumpy and dry, and the enchilada sauces were tasteless. The service was kind and attentive, but the food did not meet expectations. We stopped by based on reviews and left unhappy.
Food is over priced and not flavorful. Tortillas are store bought not homemade and you also have to pay for them which is strange as most Mexican restaurants it comes with meal at no extra cost. Would not recommend if you are looking for authentic Mexican food or even Tex Mec
When I tell you this place was underwhelming below average and smelled terrible. The service was rude. And messed up the split tickets. Avoided coming to the table as much as possible and I had mystery meat in my tacos. I also wanted soft taco but got hard shell. It was so much wrong and no sauce was offered. DONT GO HERE it waaaaay better place in Austin when better variety, whoever came here and taste it from the Austin chronicle years ago obviously don’t have taste buds. I don’t know whose readers pole they took some odd years ago, but you were asking the wrong people. Ew!!!
