Pelons Tex Mex Austin Reviews
So fun and cute!!!! Everything was soooooo yummy and our plates got to us super quickly!!! 10/10
Chips and queso were great! Hibiscus margaritas were good. Great corn enchiladas! Most are usually made from tortillas but these were different and quite delicious! Jeffrey the server was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere inside could have been better. It was kinda hot in the restaurant and the bathroom was haunted. I'd still go back though for the food.
Fantastic spot with a vibrant atmosphere! The patios and spacious bar area, which also serves food, create a perfect vibe. The staff was excellent, and the food was delicious, arriving quickly despite our group being very hungry. Highly recommend dining and drinking here if you get the chance! Conveniently within walking distance of the Indigo Hotel, Hyatt, Downright, and more.
I came in for a quick dinner when I was close to the downtown, it was actually really nice and I liked the vibe, I was able to relax for a little bit and enjoy my dinner, I recommend the enchiladas, they're really tasty. The only thing just in case you don't know like me, if you're 1 person they will make you seat in the bar, so if you don't like that, go somewhere else or go with someone.
While visiting Austin, my crew and I decided to skip the hotel breakfast, head next door to Pelons, and indulge (and indulge we did). The service, food, and atmosphere was all amazing. Not only was the dim lighting good, not only were the staff very helpful, not only was the food AMAZING, but in culmination, it was the PERFECT hangover cure! I wish I could have the breakfast tacos every morning of my life — They were THAT good. Highly recommend if visiting Austin!
For anyone on the fence about trying this place because of reviews about bland food, I say go for it! We loved this place, the atmosphere was old Austin with sprawling decks under a huge beautiful oak tree and a cozy interior with tons of charm. The chips and salsa were quite tasty, hard to stop. We ordered veggie quesadilla, carnitas enchiladas and elotes. Nothing bland about any of it, all were delicious, the carnitas very flavorful and the elotes better than a lot of places I've been. We also had the house margarita and the Higher Shelf marg, the upgrade is worth it. Definitely plan to come back to soak in more of Pelon's awesome vibe and try more of the menu!
Excellent food. Kind server/bartender Jeff made great suggestions. The menu is small but mighty. The salsa and chips were delicious with the happy hour Modelo and margarita. I saw someone walk by with a margarita flight and knew we needed to try that. The trinity of dips was wonderful and not too spicy for this Minnesota gal. The happy hour flautas hit the spot. Steak Fajitas came out sizzling and tasted as good as it looked. Left happy and full and glad we picked Pelons.
Pelons Tex Mex is a reliable choice when you’re in the mood for bold, straightforward Tex-Mex flavors. The menu covers all the classics—tacos, burritos, bowls—and portions are generous enough to feel satisfying without being overdone. The food came out fresh and well-seasoned, with good balance between spice and flavor. The atmosphere is casual and upbeat, making it an easy spot for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner. Service was efficient and friendly, even during a busy stretch. With its strong rating and steady crowd, it’s clearly a place many people return to for consistent Tex-Mex comfort food.
Came for dinner before an event right down the street. We got there in time for about the last 45 minutes of happy hour. We ordered the happy hour margaritas (rocks) and happy hour queso. The margaritas were not very strong and small. If/when I come back I would order 2 at a time. The HH queso however was huge and super yummy. It was a Blanco queso and really creamy. I got the fiesta dipper and my friend got the HH quesadilla. The fiesta dipper was a great size and was filling. I wish the menu had listed what kind of sauces it came with. There were two green sauces, the spicier one was the best and a white sauce (possibly sour cream based?) that was just ok. The flautas were killer, by far best thing on the plate. The nachos had plenty of melted cheese and were a good size. The quesadilla tasted good but it was sooo soggy and hard to enjoy. My friends HH quesadilla was the same. Our server was nice and attentive, he did forget one of the rounds of margaritas and we had to remind him about 30 minutes later. We ended with the churros which were so good.
Dinner here was good. My daughter had the fajitas and said it was the best meal she had eaten in Austin. The cheese dip was excellent. My husband had the enchiladas and he wasn’t a fan of the sauce. I had the trio and it was tasty. Our server was very attentive. We would eat here again.
It was a little chilly on this day but we had our pup with us so we had to sit outside on the patio. The sun was still out so we were able to stay warm for a bit. The server was very gracious and accommodating! We ordered House margaritas and Queso Deluxe to start. The queso was so good we decided to order Beef Fajitas. Delicious The sun was going down and the wind picking up so we packed up the rest of the fajitas to go. They were good for a snack and lunch the following day. Good food, great service!
During our recent visit to Pelons Tex Mex in Austin, we enjoyed the enchiladas and fajitas, both of which were flavorful and well-prepared. The outdoor seating under the expansive live oaks provided a pleasant dining atmosphere. The service was attentive and efficient, enhancing our overall experience. While the margaritas did not meet our expectations, we would consider returning for the quality of the food and the inviting ambiance.
I visited with a friend who was in town, and it became clear right away that this place is designed for tourists or people just passing through. The style leans heavily toward the “Tex” side of Tex Mex which inherently isn't a bad thing. However, the food felt tailored to visitors looking for a particular version of Austin rather than something more local or balanced. There is a slight note about the establishment warranting better cleanliness. My friend enjoyed himself, but the menu overall seemed like for people who aren’t local to Texas. The flavors a seemed geared toward an out-of-town crowd, and the flavors leaned predictable. If you're hosting someone visiting Austin, it works. It maybe better to bring them here instead of somewhere else if they are looking for a specific vibe/food. If you're looking for something more authentic or nuanced, there are better options.
I went alone to eat and was seated quickly. I ordered and after that a couple was seated next to me. About 20 mins later a group of about 3-4 guys were seated. Somehow all those who were seated and ordered after me got their food before me and my meal wasn't complicated. The margarita had a weird taste and was not strong. The food had a pretty presentation but was bland and dry. The best thing was the taco meat that had good flavor. Too expensive and not worth it.
Not a good experience. Reserved at 6:30 p.m. but they did allow me to come in earlier for one table. I waited for 30 minutes though this was on Valentine's Day wasn't crazy busy. I ordered the fajita steak. The chips were cold and salsa was bland. When the food finally did come it's like they didn't use any seasoning or salt and the sides I ordered were wrong but they fixed it before I received the wrong side bc I told them. And steak in the fajitas was very soft like soy meat and again there was no flavor to any thing I ate, and my stomach kinda hurts
