Dumpling Man Avenue A Reviews
Impeccable service by dedicated, passionate dumpling makers! The fillings are STUFFED and FRESH, almost BURSTING. You can taste the gently smoked tofu and peak green bok choy in the veggie dumplings, and the mushroom in the chicken dumplings just adds the perfect umami and texture. Don't sleep on the chili sauces, they're literally mouthwatering!! Shoutout to the cashier who is always so polite and thorough!!
Amazing place and awesome customer service. This is my family favorite dumpling spot in the city. Also a great price. You get to see them make the dumplings by hand while you eat. Small rest room but clean for NYC standards.
I stick to the basics here - seared pork dumplings or sometimes shrimp😊 The others are not as good. But these 2 are solid and yummy & it’s a fast cheap option in a neighborhood where there are not many options like it. And my kid loves to watch dumplings being made.🥟
Why do I always order and eat all 12 dumplings? I don’t need 12 dumplings. No one does. Best food in the neighborhood for the price. It’s quick and is open late and has vegan/vegetarian options that are substancial and good.
A solid spot to get dumplings in the East Village! Dumpling Man serves a variety of dumplings from savory to sweet and in fun, vibrant colors. They're made to order, so be prepared to wait a little bit. If you’re not sure what you want to get, there's a sampler option, where you can get two chicken, two pork, one shrimp, and one vegetable in a box. The dumplings here are stuffed, filling, hot, and fresh! $9.55 steamed dumplings sampler
My go-to soup dumplings and dumplings spot in NYC. Everything on the menu is delicious, but the soup dumplings are my favorite. Their texture, filling, and sauces - the best!! Price is great, cash and Zelle only (they do have an ATM). The staff is always so warm and friendly. It's small inside, but they have bar style seating with one side facing where they prep and cook the dumplings. Been coming here for years, highly recommend!
Affordable, authentic, & delicious! Went for the soup dumplings but ended up also getting the sampler. The soup dumplings were fantastic and the pork fried dumplings ended up being my favorite. It’s cool to see everything being made right in front of you! The place is super small but we went late so we had no problems finding a place to sit. It’s not traditional family style seating so I don’t recommend going with a large group. Will definitely be back!
Super tiny, hole-in-the-wall, restaurant that serves a variety of dumplings from savory, all the way to sweet. Because this place so small, I rank the atmosphere a little low but that shouldn't take away from the great customer service and food. This place uses cash and Zelle for payment, which can be a little bit of a hassle but ultimately, it does not take away from the experience. Reasonably priced and the dumplings are more filling than they appear. Had the Chicken and Pork dumpling, and I enjoyed both.
This place is a great dumplings spot! 🥟 Dumpling Man NYC 🗽 offers a large selection of delicious 🤤 dumplings (steamed ♨️, fried 🍳, filled with soup 🍲, etc.)! Definitely try the Chicken 🍗 Dumplings and Veggie 🥬 Dumplings - they are big and flavorful! The staff 👨🍳 is friendly and welcoming! Note that they don't accept credit cards 💳 but only cash 💵 or Zelle 💱 transfers (through your bank 🏦) via QR code. 🤳 They also have an ATM 🏧 on premises. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating! 🪑 I wish I came here earlier!
What we liked best - the Dumpling Man staff are really friendly, kind and very knowledgeable about dumplings, their sake offerings and just nice to talk with while ordering. We enjoyed watching their precision timely steaming and pan frying their incredibly fresh dumplings and soup dumplings. We especially were impressed with the quality, cleanliness and were mesmerized watching their precision timely rhythmic hand stuffing and folding of their dumplings. 🥟 I liked that my order of 10 shrimp dumplings was too much for me to eat for dinner! My bottomless pit teen also was stuffed after eating 7 or 8 of the ! Amazing 🤩 My Lovie ordered the soup dumplings. 🥟 I liked that the shrimp dumplings had a little sweet corn inside along with several shrimp and pepper - finally a shrimp dumpling without bamboo and other tasteless fillers! The corn with full little fresh shrimps were tasty - probably the best insides I’ve enjoyed in a long time. My Lovie thought the soup dumplings were very juicy - a good thing since they are filled with juicy meat and soup - but not spicy enough for my dumpling connoisseurist. Here’s what we weren’t crazy about - the outside dumpling wrap is thicker than we are used to, substantial and not going to rip when dunked - no chance. Since we literally saw them being made, we know they are super fresh, I think we are more used to a thinner wrap. Don’t let the wrap stop you from trying this little place. My teen loved the hot and sour soup and the meat dumplings, my lovie and I thought the soup was substantial with juicy ingredients but way too sweet. We heard other diners express how much they loved the dumplings and soup so I think it’s a matter of preference and definitely worth trying to see what you think. I would go back (and will go back!) for their shrimp dumplings, they were just too good and too high quality and my top rating for me to not make a run for the Dumpling Man when I want shrimp dumplings. 🥟 Also, I have to say this - this was the CLEANEST most NEAT and sanitary dumpling place - hands down! We observed frequent hand washing, sanitary handling of food, utensils and pans. It was impressive, especially as we eat our way through other East Village and Chinatown stands. This is reason enough to make a visit. They are an A (really A+) most other dumpling places start at B tbh… I liked this place very much and enjoyed our dinner. 🍽️ Cash only or Zelle.
This was a nice little hidden gem for some yummy dumplings. The price is pretty good for the area of east village. The dumplings for 6-8 pieces costs around $8-$10. I liked the vibrant color of the dumplings. The dumplings are also made right in front of you and you can see it be made. And the dumplings come out fairly quickly. There is also seating indoors and outdoors. This place is cash only and has vegetarian dumplings available!
Nice clean spot with a variety of dumpling stuffings being hand made at the back. Steamed pork dumplings were the best out of the lot. Soup dumplings were good too. The shrimp dumplings were the worst out of the lot and had too much of coating to filling ratio so do not recommend that. Seared dumplings got too dry so I do not recommend it.
If you come here for the service and atmosphere, you should definitely go, nice and cozy with affordable price. If you come here for the dumplings, I suggest you find other chinese / asian restaurant in Chinatown area. The dough is too thick and hard. The prawn filling I ordered is only 1 small shrimp + more corn inside. I'd say it is CORN DUMPLING with extra shrimp.
I don’t know why this place has such good reviews. The dumplings are so bad here. Problem is I want to like this place so much- they hand make everything, but it doesn’t mean it’s good. The wrappers are super thick and doughy and the fillings feel very low quality
Wouldn't tell me what ingredients were in the surprise dumplings and were very rude about it. Told me to just read the menu, but the menu says it will be "some kind of meat or seafood, and it is updated frequently". So I asked again and she angrily pointed at the menu and read the ingredients for the pork dumpling. I asked if the surprise dumpling and pork dumpling were the same, she said no. So I ask again what's in the surprise dumpling, and she tells me "sometimes pork, sometimes chicken, sometimes shrimp". I tell her I'm allergic to shrimp, does it have shrimp today? "Some days it does, some days it doesn't." I should have just left then, instead I ordered the pork dumplings. It took almost 30 minutes until my number was called and the dumplings were very mediocre. Very thick dough and underfilled.
These were the worst dumplings I’ve had in New York, perhaps anywhere. Soup dumplings came out piled up and broken with no soup inside. Even the one or two that weren’t broken had no soup. How can you call these soup dumplings? I also ordered the seared shrimp dumplings. Mostly dough with one tiny shrimp and some corn inside. Who in their right mind is giving this place a high rating when there are such good places to get dumpings in the area? Who cares if they make them in front of you when they are bad dumplings that make you feel sick afterwards? I regret going here. Spend a few dollars more and get tasty dumplings at the dozens of places in the city that know west they’re doing, like Joe’s Soup Dumpings and Nan Xian.
