We were looking around Bath for an afternoon tea and found the perfect one. Decadent finger sandwiches and buns with some of the most delicious crumbly scones we’ve eaten. Cakes were also lovely, especially the little chocolate one with a wafer-thin, almost crispy base. We clearly timed it perfectly, as quite soon after we arrived there was a lovely orchestral trio playing. Service was excellent with very attentive staff. I would advise to be mindful of opening times as they are quite specific. We were lucky to turn up when we did, as may have otherwise left disappointed.

Me and my girlfriend went to the pump rooms at midday for our afternoon tea where we were spoiled by a selection of sandwiches, teas and cakes and scones. She had a breakfast tea whilst I had one of their special blend hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was quite sweet, but I had an understated note of cacao the English breakfast tea tasted well like tea. I’m not an official of such a beverages. The food portion of the afternoon tea was brought out on a lovely bit of silver or metal. I’m not too sure. I had the ham sandwich first and it was lovely. I must say very meaty quite a chewy bite to it. I liked how all the crusts were cut off of the sandwiches then I had this prawn pastry like thing and I had to say I wasn’t the biggest fan of it, but I’m sure for fish lovers they would enjoy it . I particularly liked how it was presented with the fish eggs. Then I had the egg and truffle sandwich sandwich and that was very good nice warm and creamy. finally, the most beautiful onion shoe bun with a sour cream inside it was a delicious balance of sweetness and sourness. Fan on two in this review is opinion the best part of the afternoon tea and that was the scones freshly baked with clotted cream and preserve it was an Englishman’s dream . Finally, the cakes. Each had their own charm my favourite was the caramel torte thing. However, I do think that I would preferred something more traditional like a slice of Victoria sponge that would’ve gone down well with the remaining hot chocolate and tea. The atmosphere was exceptional. The whole building is an ornate masterpiece and the band played excellently during our time at the pump room. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to pay it to visit.

Right next to the Roman Baths, The Pump Room is one of those places you kind of have to visit when you’re in Bath. It’s very much tied to the city’s history and the whole Jane Austen era, so it feels quite special just being there. The atmosphere is beautiful, a grand hall with live piano music when we visited, which made it feel really elegant and relaxed at the same time. The staff were lovely, very friendly and quick to help with any questions or requests. We had the Jane Austen Afternoon Tea and, taste wise, it was a bit underwhelming as I’ve definitely had better afternoon teas elsewhere. That said, the tea selection was great, lots of interesting teas I hadn’t tried before, and we also had a glass of their sparkling wine which was really good. Overall, I’d still say it’s well worth stopping by for a drink or something light. Even if the food isn’t the main highlight, the atmosphere alone makes it a must visit when you’re in Bath.

We had a lovely lunch in the beautiful pump room restaurant. We were lucky to have a pianist performing whilst we ate. You can also see the roman baths from one of the windows. We were able to walk in but i am sure a reservation is needed when the weather warms up

Absolutely gold star service. Everyone from James who greeted us to Chloe who saw us to our table and checked in and Mimi who was our waitress fantastic! The food was lovely- and the gluten free scones to die for- thank you to the chefs - they were light, fluffy and no fruit in sight! The musicians were incredible. Extra special as Chloe and Mimi listened to us and understood today would be my late dad’s birthday. They went out their way to mark the occasion! Do not hesitate to book- fantastic not to mention the beautiful setting!

Pricey but impossible to fault. We had the afternoon tea, with a glass of English sparkling wine, and a wide variety of hot drinks, which came to £124 for two. The savouries were delicious, the scones were super fresh, and the patisserie cakes were delicate and luxurious. The space is beautiful, the staff delightful, and having live classical music as well, made it feel very special.

I came here for afternoon tea while on holiday in town with my disability group. The food and drink was amazing, the staff were very kind and helpful, and the service was absolutely brilliant. I would definitely come here again and would recommend this place to others.

Lovely Afternoon Tea Experience in the Heart of Bath We visited this location for Afternoon Tea and had a really beautiful experience. We arrived around 2:30 PM and were lucky to catch a live piano concert, which added an elegant touch to the atmosphere. The standard Afternoon Tea menu was around £100 for two people, which felt fair considering the amount of food included. There is plenty to eat — definitely more sweet than savoury — but everything was fresh and nicely presented. The service was very kind and attentive, and the interior is absolutely charming. One of the highlights is the back rooms, where the walls display the history of the place and its connection to the Roman Baths. It’s actually linked to the Pump Room, and if you choose to visit the Pump Room and then the Roman Baths afterwards, you can skip the main queue, which is a great bonus. Overall, if you’re visiting Bath and want a traditional Afternoon Tea in a beautiful and historic setting, I definitely recommend this place.

Such a fantastic experience. A fabulous environment, lovely and leisurely - we weren’t rush at all. Food was amazing and service fantastic - attentive but never intrusive. Highly recommended !

A delightful way to start the day…and not just for music that played during our Sunday brunch. Our 10am sitting included fizz and ended with Moonlight Sonata…a classic experience that was memorable.

Visited here a few years ago, service, food and tea did not disappoint today. My waiter was charming, helpful and knowledgeable. The scones were freshly baked and the darjeeling tea refreshing. Cannot recommend highly enough. The trio played classical music and it was just so civilised. Thank you.

It was a lovely experience to drink tea in Regency costumes in this historical and stylish setting! The afternoon tea was absolutely delicious and we were served tea and coffee as much as we wanted. It’s not cheap, but It’s worth the experience.

Live music was such a great treat next to the afternoon tea experience to be thoroughly enjoyed, beautiful! Thank you. We also managed to get the best seats right next to the stage.

We went here for Afternoon tea. It was fantastic. The tea snacks were absolutely delicious. Especially the cream and chive puff and the chocolate and orange cake was the best cake I've ever had.

We visited The Pump Room as a family of four for a late lunch and tea during the August Bank Holiday, and it was a brilliant experience. The atmosphere is incredible—you really feel the history of the place. We were lucky enough to have the resident orchestra playing while we ate, which made the whole meal feel like something special. One of the best parts was getting to try the famous mineral water from the spa fountain. It’s got a very unique taste because of all the minerals, but you can’t come to Bath and not try it! The food was excellent and the service was spot on despite it being a busy holiday weekend. As a business owner at MJK Roofing, I’ve got a real appreciation for historic buildings that are kept in such great condition. It’s a must-visit for any family looking for a bit of proper Bath culture. Five stars!

I booked a Jane Austen Afternoon Tea for a party of 4 midweek and we loved every minute of the experience! From the entrance all the way to our table the service and staff were outstanding. The live music was a great touch. The menu looked good, but I have to admit, the food and drinks were not AS delicious as some of the other tea times that we’ve had. The Darcy cocktail sounded so promising but was a bit too bitter and flat. What you are paying for is definitely the ambiance and location. You feel like you’re sitting in a room full of so much rich history that I would’ve paid 2x more for this feeling. You’re also able to taste the spring water from the King’s fountain in this tea room. We loved it very much and would certainly book again.

I was down to my last 2 hours in Bath and I was left with the difficult choice to visit: (1) the Victoria Art Gallery and the Beazer Garden Maze OR (2) go to the Pump Room. Honestly, I think I made the right choice and went to the Pump Room. Perhaps a second visit would be a sensible solution 🤔 😂 I was amazed by the refinement of the dining area and I certainly was not expecting live classical music. I did not catch my servers name but she was amazingly attentive (table 22) and helped me select the right tea service for the limited amount of time I had: Beau Nash tea with salted baked Bromham heritage beetroots with goat's curd and toasted hazelnuts, scones with clotted cream and preserves, and a Jane Austen tea blend. It goes without saying that the tea and scones are delicious. But the beetroots? That was the WINNER!! Absolutely divine on the flavors. Who knew I would be a fan 🤷🏽‍♀️ And thank you for having an area to drink the Roman Bath water ❤️ Yesterday, I toured the Roman Bath and (unfortunately) the area to sip the water was closed off. So, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to taste it. I can check it off my bucket list.

I had a wonderful visit to The Pump Room. The setting is elegant and full of history, creating the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed and memorable afternoon. The food and drinks were beautifully presented and of excellent quality. The whole experience was amazing, the service and staff were fantastic in particular James!Thank you all for a super afternoon. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a special dining experience in Bath.

We came here for brunch/breakfast. I had the poached egg with salmon which was lovely. We also had two cocktails. The atmosphere is nearly like from a fairytale especially with the pianist playing. Definitely recommend to anybody.

Absolutely love this place and highly recommend! Great atmosphere, nice food & tea, great service as well - the waiters/ waitresses are really friendly and welcoming so if you’re a tourist who doesn’t understand tea etiquette, don’t be afraid :)

Our friends booked this for my wife's birthday while we were all at the Christmas Market. Throughly enjoyable afternoon tea, especially when the musicians played happy birthday. A tad short on the sandwiches though.

We visited the pump room for our anniversary and it was an amazing experience with delicious food, exceptional staff and a memorable ambiance with the live music, natural spring fountain, and beautiful decor in the historic Pump Room. I would love to visit again next time I am in Bath.

This was a magical experience. The beautiful decor surrounding the room, the large windows, the accompanying music while you dine, all of it. The high tea service was the best we've ever had. Each item was well thought out and perfectly executed. Even their clotted cream was just better. To be having tea where Queen Anne (1688) to Queen Elizabeth have dined and partaken in the special water, was a special feature. It's worth getting a reservation and being part of such a historical site.

WoW ! Superb setting for a beautifully presented and delicious afternoon tea !! Friendly and helpful staff with excellent service. The background music added to the experience in this elegant venue. Booking advised as very few walk in opportunities at our visit.

Went for high. Had a lovely time. You can sample purified water from the Roman Baths, which are next door. It was once thought to be medicinal.

What a wonderful experience! We didn't manage to book online a table in time and the gentleman that received us made everything possible for us to have tea here. We chose the afternoon tea selection, and it was amazing: delicious little sandwiches, scones and cakes, and tea/coffee. The room itself is also beautiful and there was a musician playing piano, which made everything even better. Highly recommended, but do try to book a table online in advance (we came here after a walking tour that ended by the Roman Baths). Lovely!

Superb experience! What a treat - I had the vegan brunch. Very fancy and delicate flavours, love the presentation of it. Live music, the pianist played perfectly. Incredibly atmospheric and so much to look at, it was wonderful. I also appreciate the fact that there were very exciting and delicious vegan options available. Great to be kind to animals, the planet and your own body AND have a luxurious experience, without compromising on flavours or presentation. I was told the chocolate cake is vegan too, also very tasty. I could not sing the praises of this place enough. Next time I will remember to bring a bathing suit for the Roman baths, AND I will come looking more smart. Sitting in such a beautiful and grand room is not a place for wearing flip-flops or hiking boots. 🤭

Celebrated my birthday here a few days ago and the whole experience couldn’t have been more perfect. Service from the staff was impeccable; they were so intuitive and accommodating… music was played live by the pianist which made the whole experience of being in the grand room even more magical. Food was very decent and of good quality; had the brunch menu. Staff even surprised me with a birthday cupcake accompanied by the birthday song played on the piano. Many thanks for such a memorable birthday!

My daughter and I had the most wonderful experience having tea at the Pump Room! Some reviews I read had been somewhat concerning regarding the quality and freshness of the food, but we found everything exceptional and delicious. Thank you for an amazing afternoon treat, in every regard!

Lovely Jane Austin afternoon tea for a luxurious experience that takes you back to the 19th century with the lice music and excellent service!

Beautiful afternoon tea location. My Mother in law treated us, and it did not disappoint. Lovely grand Hall, ambient music playing, attentive, friendly staff. Lovely experience. I had the vegan afternoon tea and it was tasty, and nicely presented. My mother In Law has an egg intolerance and so also opted for Vegan, however on discussing with the waiter he accommodated the 'no egg' request best he could and brought over some nice clotted cream for her instead of the supplied coconut butter. My husband enjoyed his vegetarian option too.

Absolutely lovely experience, we went for afternoon tea and it was my wife's birthday, the live pianist played happy birthday and they bought her out a little cake 😍 The setting is glorious and the service is attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommend.

A really lovely relaxing afternoon tea. The staff there are so professional and friendly or was easy to settle in and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and listen to the piano being played expertly for everyone there. The food was delicious and very generous and some changes we asked for were accommodated. Overall I'd really recommend booking to enjoy this if ever your visiting Bath. Many thanks

The Pump Room restaurant was an absolute delight! From the moment we walked in, the ambience was so pleasant and inviting. The service was top-notch and the staff were so friendly and attentive. And let's not forget about the food - the selection for breakfast, brunch, and lunch was impressive, with something for everyone. We especially loved the Victoria cake and carrot cake slices, paired with the delicious coffee options. And to top it off, we got to enjoy a beautiful view of the Roman Bath while dining. What a lovely experience, we will definitely be coming back!

Pure elegance and history. Breakfast or afternoon tea accompanied by live classical music in a Roman bathhouse is an unforgettable experience. The setting is exquisite, with waiters in livery. It is worth every penny for its uniqueness. Be sure to try the local spring water—it is an acquired taste!

Ive eaten here; and danced around at their Silent Discos!!- love the place; steeped in history, friendly and helpful staff. I jewel in the the heart of this ancient city. Also, I've had the pleasure of doing some business with the Heritage Team there, as well as catering service 'Searcy's' and both their expertise and professionalism is always impressive.

I'd consider this one of the best parts of our whole visit to Bath! I wanted to visit for the history of the space, but the tea and the cake we chose were both wonderful. I had the Victoria Sponge and it was a delight. The tea was perfect. We enjoyed the ambiance, with live piano music and a lovely space overall. It's also a nice spot to see the spring for the baths next door.

I was given afternoon tea for two with a glass of English fizz for my birthday. We had such a lovely time! The teas were very nice and we both tried two - we both liked the Pump Room blend best. The sandwiches suited us very well - lovely husband can’t eat wheat or fish and he was very pleased with his (but he did say he couldn’t taste the ham for mustard in one!), I had the standard selection and they were all delicious, especially the choux bun and the prawns. The English fizz, scones and cakes were all very nice. We enjoyed the excellent pianist, the surroundings are so lovely, and the service was outstanding. Highly recommended!

We went to the Pump Room Restaurant for evening tea and it felt truly special. The live music (piano, violin and cello) created a beautiful atmosphere, and tasting the thermal water made the experience uniquely Bath. I was there with my wife and we both loved it; elegant, relaxing, and like stepping back in time. Highly recommended.

An extravagant afternoon the encompasses beautifully made cakes and a perfect cup of tea. My only qualm is the business adding their own tip to the bill , I thought that was very distasteful. Overall a fun experience but you would only do it once. You do have a view into the Roman Baths from the restaurant though which saves you the £25 entry fee next door.

J
Jessica Husbands

Beautiful location with wonderful live classical music playing as you sip on your champagne and eat the tasty food. I will definitely go again and have the afternoon tea next time.

G

Went for the tea menu at 12 noon. The atmosphere was great! The high ceilings and classical music really add to the ambience. Huge applause to the pianist who played for an hour! The music was so so good! The tables are spaced out very well too, so it made the experience very private. We felt that the green pea savoury bites were super good, wished there were more! Scones were pretty standard. And the raspberry shortbread dessert bite was super good! Jane Austen tea was really good! Tasted like earl grey with earthy notes and a tinge of rooibos flavour at the end. You can get a glimpse of the Roman Baths from the pump room too!

Great setting and good service. Pity the options for breakfast are not many. But there are GF and V/VG options

What can you say. Yes the prices are a bit on the steep side - no pun but a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours surrounded by opulence, great service and ambience. Must do when in Bath.

The afternoon tea experience was enjoyable. I did find the setting a bit crowded, and the other guests tended to the T-shirt wearing type. Nonetheless, the service was good and the food was excellent. The Pump Room is beautiful and imbued with history.

N

Lovely venue, felt very formal but the staff were friendly and relaxed so it was a nice experience. I shared gluten free pastries and tea with my partner so it felt very reasonably priced. Only lost a star because one cake was very dry, but the other three were delicious so I’d recommend to other gluten free people that they give it a go!

R
Rina

If it was not for the atmosphere, history, service and the music I would have given this place 2. Afternoon tea was an average at best, sandwiches celection was not good at all, you get one with ham which was okay and cucumber with mint I think.. it was quite bad. Lemon dessert was very sweet and eggy, chocolate cake was full of sugar and was missing the actual chocolate, scones were cold. Is it worth going here? Probably yes as it’s historical and a beautiful place to visit, but I would suggest not to have high expectations for their food.

D
Dee Stein

It is a beautiful room, members of staff are pleasant and the pianist adds a lovely ambience, but for what you get for your money, the afternoon tea is overpriced in comparison to others I've tried throughout the UK. Such a pity.
