Sumo Roll Berkeley Reviews
Fairly small place, delicious food. Seemed like they limit the number of people. Reservations highly recommended. A single chef was doing a great job getting the orders flowing. Super fast service. Sushi and chicken katsu were delicious. The inside was a bit outdated and the place was a bit crammed. Service started well but as a couple more tables were occupied, our sever got distracted. Certainly a must try for the quality of food.
I honestly loved everything about this place from the food to the service. We started off with shrimp tempura which was so crispy! For our meal, we ordered a deep fried California Roll and a Lion King Roll. We loved both! The service was amazing. We got sat seconds after we walked in. The lady who took our order was so sweet and patient (We asked a lot of questions). I can’t wait to come back here again.
Sushi was really fresh and melt in your mouth texture. The rice was spot flavor and texture wise on and the main rainbow roll was bigger than I expected. The salmon sashimi was thick cut, Japan style. Would go back
Some of the best sushi I’ve had, especially the salmon nigiri and lion king roll. Such big portions of fish. Not to mention the bowl was also a screaming deal for the amount of food you get and it’s so custom! Also came with some gluten free people and they were very accommodating
Amazing rolls. Best sushi spot in Berkeley, and that’s coming from someone whos been to ALL of them! Highly recommend the lion king and godzilla rolls. The service is great and the lady is very kind, though it can be a bit slow at times when it’s busy because they make everything themselves. But that makes it taste better!! Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who is looking for an affordable sushi spot.
Delicious food. Friendly and professional staff. Waitress took our order without writing anything down -- and got everything right! We walked in off the street with no reservations as a party of 3. We immediately sat at a table and were served water. We ordered the Gyoza, Vegetable Croquettes, and Vegetarian Rolls for appetizers. She told us she could change our Croquette order from 2 large to 3 small pieces so everyone at the table could have one. The vegetarian roll was amazing with LOTS of individual pieces (8). Each of us ordered different items -- Yashinoya Sumo Burrito, Sake Maki Rolls, and the Kakuni Ramen. Every dish was cooked well and assembled into an amazing presentation. We want to go back and order other dishes!
Tried the make your own poke bowl and really enjoyed the dry erase marker ordering system to guarantee that every ingredient you want is in the bowl. The price was fantastic for a very filling meal but be warned it was a lot of rice and very small amount of fish. For the price I can't complain but I wish they would add an option for extra poke.
Great sushi! Awesome vibe and proximity to Berkeley Campus. Will definitely be back. Staff had great energy and smiles.
The sumo sushi roll is bomb. Highly recommend. We got two other rolls which I think were pretty good but don't stand out in my mind. Small cute place, service is great.
Delicious sushi rolls and sushi burritos! Great service, too, the waitress was super nice!

Beautifully lit, cozy yet open. Service was lovely. Food was *chef's kiss* brilliant. Don't sleep on this as a lunch spot if you are on campus at Cal for the day. Open 7 days a week from Noon- 8pm. You will be delighted. I know I was. Already picking out my next order.

The service was incredible and our waitress was very kind. On top of the welcoming and calm atmosphere, the food was delicious as well. Good portion sizes and the seafood tasted fresh. We got the salmon teriyaki combo, the caterpillar roll and takoyaki. Everything we got was very flavorful. Definitely recommend coming here!
The food was good. Everyone in the party enjoyed what they ordered. The Katsu and Chicken teriyaki aren’t drenched in sauce and that’s good. If you want more sauce in the side just ask and they are happy to oblige. Service was friendly but very slow on this night. We did arrive about 45 minutes before closing and we had a party of 5 which was the largest party there. I would definitely come again but earlier if I had a larger party.
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Overall: A good healthy option in the area. The extended review... Food: Poke Bowl - 3.5/5 - I'd say the one thing that I was impressed with by this place was the option to get some fried meat along side. The portion size I would have loved to be a little bit bigger but overall I was good with it. Service: 4/5 - Very friendly staff. Ambiance: 3.5/5 - Ample seating and clean.
The rolls are really good. They don’t hold back on the Salmon, the rolls had plenty and we love it! The prices are also not bad at all (10 bucks per toll). We also tried the salmon burrito and I think it makes for a perfect lunch.
The sushi is very good. Their mayo is a bit spicier than others. Everything is made fresh so there’s a bit of a wait but good sushi rolls! The gyoza and appetizers are tasty as well.

Nice and tasty sushi shop! Staff was very kind :)
Delicious and reasonably priced Japanese food. The Chicken Teriyaki was the best I have ever tasted!

The place seemed nice, I ordered takoyaki Togo and it had like a drop of sauce on it. I was really dissappointed and was craving takoyaki so badly... :(( (the miso soup was good, I also ordered a spicy salmon roll and it wasn't spicy at all it just tasted like mayo... the place looks really nice and I'm sure if you get a more fancier roll maybe it'll have a little more flavor?) I hate leaving a bad review but all the reviews seemed so good, I had to be honest. This is just my own experience though, still go and try it out!

Tried the ramen, a specialty roll and the salmon teriyaki. The egg in the ramen was super overcooked. Specialty roll was pretty good. Salmon and the shrimp tempura was also overcooked. Unfortunately it was also pretty slow. The server was nice and apologetic but overall it’s

I’m SO disappointed after seeing all the good reviews, but this was literally some of the worst, most bland sushi I’ve had in my life. It tasted like grocery store sushi. I got it through DoorDash, otherwise I would have sent it back. Also, the avocado they used in the rolls was completely brown. What a waste of money. I never leave reviews, but I’m angry enough about the money I lost to post one about this place. I didn’t even eat the rolls.
