The Beef Binghamton Reviews
One of my favorite restaurant! They really know what there doing in bringing Great Quality of Service to Everybody.
Busy night at the Beef. We got there at 6 and put on our name on the list but waited 2 hrs for a table. Because we sat at the bar while waiting, we're overlooked, but the host apologized and got us a table after that. The bar tender was good at serving many people at once. He was hopping and very efficient. We had a happy night and the food and waitress were great. There was excellent entertainment there, with a beautiful singer named Adrianna, who pulled in a good crowd. We will definitely go back!!
This restaurant and pub was completely awesome in every way. Dave, my bartender and host, was attentive and ready to serve the hungry people assembled early. I digress, I arrived at 4 pm after a day at work that began before dawn. Long story short, the wait to order food until 5 pm was well worth it, and previous reviews are correct in stating to get there early. My soup was rich with love, my filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare, and my entire experience was outstanding. Thank you!
Third time visiting in the last couple of months. Seems like many patrons know the owner and each other. Food was great every time. Have had the orange roughy, twin tornados bearnaise, pork chop and Swiss chicken. All cooked perfectly and tasty. Sides are always cooked properly as well.
I dinned in on a Monday night. The food was amazing! The onion soup came out fresh out of the broiler, which is a rare treat. The rib eye was cooked perfectly. The waitress was extremely attentive and polite, the kitchen staff was able to accommodate my father’s Wheat and Shellfish allergies. I would come back when I have the chance.
Nice little restaurant. The dining room doesn't open until 5. I was super hungry so I was going to order two 10oz portions of the prime rib but the waitress informed me that they will serve a 20oz but it's just not on the menu. So I got the 20oz and in my opinion it seemed more like it was closer to a 30oz. Awesome! It was very tender and juicy throughout the whole thing. The side of mushrooms were delicious. The creamy horseradish sauce wasn't needed but was enjoyed.
Went to Bingo for parents weekend and found this old school steakhouse. The chef & wait staff were spot on. Knowledgeable and quick. Our group tried a bit of everything from prime rib to scallops scampi. They did not miss. No reservations available, but were seated at 530. By 600 not a seat available. Decor is old school too but I'll take great service & food any day over that! I ran into the owner as we were leaving and he was very personable. A character!
Simply put, this place is fantastic. It’s a little gem of a steak and fish joint nestled in the West side of Binghamton. The Beef has been at it…well, a long time. You can tell that the regulars have been coming here for many, many years. The service is very friendly, and they paid close attention to our table. As for the food, I’ll first say that if they are offering their Philly Cheesesteak soup, you need to order a bowl. It’s thick, there’s real steak pieces in it, and it’s not too salty. You can taste the bits of red pepper in there, too. I got the Delmonico (blackened, with bleu cheese crumbles), and my wife got the Prime Rib. We have eaten plenty of meat at the usual chains, such as Texas Roadhouse. We have also eaten at places like Chicago Cut, who charge over $90 for a similarly named cut. Grated, that’s 35 day dry aged and world-class, but it serves for comparison. What you get are steaks that exceed the quality of the chains, but at a slightly better price. The Prime Rib was perfect – super tender, perfectly medium rare, and served au jus that was made from fresh beef bones. As for the Delmonico, that was also outstanding. Juicy, tender, and loaded with flavor. No flavor was taken too far, and all of it was balanced. We have no reason to go to the chain steak places in the Binghamton area again. The Beef is cozy, and has plenty of cold beer on tap. One piece of advice – try to get there early (i.e. before 6:00 PM). Locals flood in and it can get crowded.
After a first time visit, my girlfriend & I were very happy we took the ride up from PA! I would have given 4 stars due to them not taking reservations & a 30 minute wait but we think they made up for that overall. All employees we dealt with were friendly & prompt. Our server was Hunter. I really like the old time feel of the whole place overall. I had 20 oz. prime rib that was prepared perfectly. The chili was excellent as well! The "house potatoes" were just sliced potatoes (kind of a let down). She had a Delmonico special that she said was very good as well. I think overall we got what we paid for!
Old school. This place is a neighborhood gem. Enter through the bar and into the dark dining room for a delicious steak and good sides. The price is excellent. One of the best "Pittsburgh rare" preparations I have ever had. A perfect amount of char cooked evenly on both sides with a nice cold center!
We are from Michigan and feel lucky to have found this pub. The food was fabulous and we were greeted by the owners. Everyone was extremely friendly, including the other patrons. Sarah and Rusty made us feel a part of the family. The deserts are homemade and were wonderful. We will be making detours anytime we are anywhere close to visit again. We wish to thank everyone for helping us celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary.
Dinner with friends, we were seated immediately on a Friday evening (6:30pm). The service was friendly and very attentive. Water glass was always filled. My sirloin was delicious and cooked medium well perfectly. The huge bowl of cheesey cauliflower soup was, sadly, not very flavorful. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal. The Beef is a decent sized restaurant, next to Leroy's Package Store. There is a bar when you walk in. Then the restaurant seating is a walk around. The decor is dark wood with low lighting. The night we were there, 2 couples in the table next to us were very loud and tipsy. Tough time hearing the wait service. Still we enjoyed our dinner and left satisfied.
Cute family oriented vibe in a residential neighborhood. The food was OK but not more. Steak tacos: nicely seasoned with lots of coleslaw salad. French Onion Soup: not great. Nothing like the traditional one. It’s more like vegetable soup with a slice of melted cheese on a piece of bread. Salmon: classic. Good. Cooked well.
Ugh. This is one review I regret to write. I had heard the hype for a long time. "You want the best steak in Broome County go to the beef". I blew it off for awhile. My fiance and I live in Endicott, so it's not far for us, but it's a bit out of the way. We also have our local favorites and as much as I like to try new places, we're creatures of habit. Finally this past Tuesday we just said let's go. Let's see what this alleged hidden gem is all about. Man, what a let down. I had such high hopes. From the small setting in a residential neighborhood to the old time feel, I was really excited. Things started out well. We were promptly seated by a friendly waitress. I wish I could remember her name to give her props because she was the one saving grace of our experience. Very attentive and pleasant and she was a hard worker. You could tell she has been there for a long time. She got us our drinks and we both started with french onion soup. It was very good, however very different from what you'd expect. Nothing like traditional french onion. The cheese was shredded and melted in the broth itself, rather than put under a broiler. Nonetheless, it was good. For dinner we decided to get two different entrees and share. So we got a 12 oz NY strip medium with a baked potato and the beans and greens over linguine. The steak was very large and cooked to temperature perfectly. It was a quality cut of beef but there was nothing exciting about it. It was barely seasoned and lacked any flavor whatsoever. For a place simply called "The Beef" you'd think they would nail it. Maybe it was an off night, but I feel that in a traditional steakhouse I shouldn't have to douse my steak with salt and pepper just to make it edible. As for the beans and greens? Same story. Zero flavor, no garlic, no pop. Very disappointing when you're going out to a $100+ dinner. The service and the setting was awesome. I give that 5 stars for sure. But the food? I can think of quite a few other spots within 5 miles I'd rather have dinner at. Really bummed. Lol
There are roaches as i seen one crawling on the floor, I have seen more then a few with my own eyes, the servers are a bit lazy as usual, the food is distasteful for the love of God whoever is running the kitchen needs to be replaced with someone else, so far the soups have changed so much and I can tell it's just not the same as before, like when I used come, I stopped by yesterday for something quick and warming since it's chilly out and it was disappointing, this place has definitely lost its touch. It's sad to see it's being run downhill.
Been here multiple times. Service has unfortunately gone down hill substantially. Food wasnt as good as it was. Tonight, I was told 15-20 Minutes. Another couple was sat immediately upon egressing through the door, after we had already waited a solid 15 minutes. My daughter was hungry and instead of seating us, they sat them. They dont take reservations, so im absolutely confused and pissed off as to why, my mother, daughter and myself wait while. Meanwhile, someone can jump in front of us, almost waiting 20 minutes. Absolutely, one if the most embarrassing and awful service experience Ive experienced in a while. Steaks are usually overcooked, especially if you prefer rare or mid-rare. Id expect better from a neighborhood restaurant that people talk so highly of… I have no idea why. Id give negative stars if I could . Go to Cacciatores or outback if you want a good steak. This place is 🗑️
do not ever come to the beef especially if you're a young college student or if you're a person who wants good service. when we came here we ordered the dinner entree (which is not cheap) it stated that it comes with a side and a soup. we confirmed with our waitress (emma) that there was no upcharge for the french onion soup sub and she confirmed that there was a dollar upcharge only for the french onion gratin. we also ordered the shrimp scampi (which is expected to come over noodles) and our waitress proceeded to ask if we wanted that over noodles or rice. we then asked for a side of roasted mushrooms and a soup with that. when the check comes we see there is a FIVE dollar charge for the mushrooms that we thought were a side. we nicely asked out waitress and she told us that the linguini was the side -- so the 28 dollar price tag for the shrimp scampi was for the 5 shrimps. the waitress did not tell us that the mushrooms were an additional charge and basic logic would have us assume that when she said "over noodles or rice" meant it came with the dish. there was also a one dollar upcharge for each soup. when we asked her she literally admitted she made a mistake and then said and I quote: "i made a mistake. what do you want me to do about it? do you want me to comp it" it was as simple as a two dollar comp. we were unhappy about the FIVE dollar mushrooms but we were gonna eat the cost. but the attitude of the staff was shocking as she was talking about us within earshot of the bathroom (thank you for that btw) she then disappeared and had another staff handle our check who also told us "there's upcharges for stuff at every restaurant" that's totally fine but it's basic expectation to make it clear what those costs are otherwise it's highway robbery. it's not that we can't afford the 5 dollars or two dollars but it's about basic respect and principle.
