What a beautiful place that is. You can always walk in and witness great musicians creating amazing art, no matter who's playing. And the owner, Atigh, so kind and personable. Barzakh became a favorite of mine very quickly.

One of the best cafes I’ve seen. Tons of character, very nice service and excellent coffee. There are cool events all the time too

Can’t say enough what a beautiful gem this place is. It’s not just a place you go for tea (though the tea is the best I’ve had in a long time), it’s a place you go to read treasured literature, to learn about different cultures, to listen to beautiful music, and to be a part of a welcoming community fostered by the very kind owner. Can’t sing Barzakh’s praises enough, definitely check it out 🫶🏼

My partner and I had our wedding ceremony here and it was absolutely lovely. The owner Atigh and the rest of the staff are hospitable and enormously helpful. Every interaction we had with them felt authentic and warm. They were nice to Everyone and the atmosphere is both beautifully colorful and cozy. Perfect for an intimate wedding. We had about 40 or so people, and with tables and chairs set up it was more than enough room. We were able to arrange the place as we pleased and the owner did several walk through with us. It was a sharp contrast with the range of other venues we reached out to. Many other places felt corporate and like they were trying to squeeze more money out of us. Barzakh was also so so affordable and very flexible with us setting up early and lingering afterwards. It's a really special, community oriented place. I'm so happy somewhere like this exists in ny.

Barzakh Coffee has become my second home. As someone from the Algerian Berber (Amazigh) community, I feel deeply connected to the warm, multicultural atmosphere here. This place often transports me back to North Africa, especially to the Berber culture I carry with pride. It’s one of the few spaces where every culture is genuinely respected and celebrated. I’ve listened to music from Africa Mail, Senegal ,Guinea, India, Pakistan, Syria, Italy, Latin America, Egypt, Turkey, and, of course, beautiful Berber sounds that remind me of home. It’s also my favorite spot to relax with a book—and I even chose to celebrate my birthday here. Barzakh isn’t just a café; it’s a cultural oasis and a home for the soul.

This is one of those places that makes NYC such a great city. We saw the Arun Ramamurthy trio here and it was an amazing night. The staff are wonderful and the music was incredible, the space is very intimate, it feels like you're in someone's living room, and the ticket prices are affordable. I will definitely be coming back here.

is one of those rare places that just pulls you in. The vibe is incredible live music, amazing food, and an atmosphere that feels more like a community than a bar/café. It’s like stepping into a portal where everything feels welcoming and connected. Definitely worth a visit.

This place is incredible! What an amazing energy this place has. We ordered one of everything on the menu and had a feast for lunch. The person behind the counter was super friendly and inviting, he encouraged us to look around while he was getting the food ready. The book store in the back had a great selection of books, covering a lot of genres. It’s so cozy back there, decorated nicely. As we ate, a group met up for a learning Arabic meeting, which was nice to listen in on. The food was delicious! It reminds me of some of my favorite places in the world. A place where you can have a nice tea and get comfy, where they encourage community and you can have a great time by just being in the space. Totally invigorating; you just absorb good feelings and energy while kicking back with a book. I can’t wait to go back!

Absolutely amazing place with a real community atmosphere. Rare and unique to find somewhere that makes you feel like you are being welcomed into someone’s home. Delicious food and tea with super friendly and attentive service. I can’t wait to come back to read more of the vintage thought provoking books!

I had a tropical island themed celebration at Barzakh Cafe yesterday, this little gem that I am so glad to have discovered over and over again! I requested a specific band here and the result was nothing short of amazing! Amazing music and sound system, goat and chicken barbecue slowly roasting, garlic sauce, and brownies for dessert. My friends were all mesmerized by the walls full of books and the big big space (bar + main room + backyard)! If you want to book a venue for a party, gathering or just listen to the amazing band selection Barzakh is the place. El Atigh is a rare laid back generous man! If you want to meet a host as welcoming and generous you’ll have to go to Mauritania 😂!

I absolutely love this place! I attend their Arabic classes during the day as a beginner, and my instructor Essam is fantastic - he challenges me while keeping lessons accessible. I often arrive early for lunch (the food is delicious) or stay afterward to read and relax in their beautiful backyard with a drink. It's truly a magical spot to unwind during the day.

What a beautiful space!! The music was alive and so was the soup in my belly. Shoutout to the dude with the mustache who was running this place. Such a warm atmosphere.

Beautiful find. The woman who greeted and served me was so welcoming and adorable just like the cafe. Their brownie was a delicious satisfaction (taste and portion), went perfectly with my oat cappuccino.

This is my second home, a place full of beauty that transports me to Morocco or North Africa. They respect and celebrate all cultures here. I have listened to Guinean, Indian, Pakistani, Syrian, Italian, Latin American, Moroccan, Egyptian, and Turkish music.

Nice Arabian cafe with African teas and good decor and vibes. Ambiance was amazing. The teas were nice just wish they had good cups to serve them in. And I believe they also do events.
