Brooklyn Ice House Brooklyn Reviews
Best dive bar in Brooklyn. Get the pulled pork sliders they're massive and about the size of a standard burger. There's a huge backyard which is great for the summer time. Cash only!
Loved the breeze in the back garden! The BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich lived up to the other reviews. A nice place to hang out on an afternoon or evening.
Brooklyn Ice House is the best dining experience I’ve had in New York. I happened upon the Ice House on a walk in 30 degree weather. I took an Uber to Red Hook, and was rather unfamiliar with the area. I walked in thirty minutes before they closed, and asked if it was okay I dined in. Cory and Sam welcomed me with warm smiles and a coke from the bar. I ordered a medium rare burger, fries, and a dirty martini. At the Saints halftime I asked if we could switch to the Nets game. Cory quickly and gladly changed the station. Throughout the evening we talked about where we were from, the Knicks vs. the Nets, and how the city has changed over the past several decades. Not to mention the burger was perfect. Every element was exactly what I wanted. Toasted buttered bun, cheddar cheese, crisp veggies, cooked properly. The service was remarkable. They were always five steps ahead. I felt taken care of in every sense. As I was getting ready to leave I asked for directions back to Williamsburg. I knew I was going to have to take the bus to the train which I hadn’t done before. Cory called the station to see what busses were running later on Sunday. He then wrote down step by step instructions on how to get back to Williamsburg. At the bottom of the note he wrote down his cell in case I got lost. I couldn’t thank everyone enough. On my way out I walked into the kitchen and thanked the cook. I left a 50% tip and headed towards the bus stop. A few minutes passed and I saw Sam running towards me. I had left my wallet. He stood with me until the bus arrived. Best dining experience I’ve had in New York.
How does this place have such amazing food? Walking by you would never think that this best food in Red Hook but they do! Great prices, good bartender, cool vibe and insane food!
Probably the most underrated back patio in this history of underrated back patios. They have dozens of beers, board games, and a hip Red Hook neighborhood to explore. What else do you want? Reco: Grab a lobster roll from Red Hook Lobster Pound and also walk to the edge of Red Hook for a great view of the Statue of Liberty.
Just had drinks, didn't eat here, it was a fun time. Great beer selection.
of benches to hang out with friends. I honestly can't think of a better place to go on a Saturday afternoon with friends. Since you're in Red Hook, things are definitely going to be much cheaper than in other parts of the city. But the one thing that will keep me coming back is their Frito Pie, which is basically nachos made with fritos - topped with chili cheese and jalepenos. Seriously, my friends and I must have devoured 5 order of these. Their pulled pork sandwich, bacon wrapped hot dog, and burgers aren't half bad either. I can't wait to come back again the next time I'm in the hood.
Cory, the bartender is one of the most amazing people I have had the pleasure of meeting. His compassion for for people is so beautiful to witness. Thank you so much Cory
Good service, great food and drinks. Clean considering we sat outside in the back yard.. Good atmosphere. Definitely going back .
Fantastic European beer selection in a very casual setting. 2 pulled pork sandwiches and an entire basket of fries for $10 which are delicious
Great music and food. 4 beers on tap but many well priced cans as well. Outdoor area is very chill.
Love coming here for their cheap drinks and burgers. They have great service and their patio in the back is very pleasant.
Time traveled back to a time when bars were for drinking. No one gave a shiz that I was from the future... Five Stars
Quite possibly the best dive bar in Brooklyn. From the prices that are so low you wonder how they stay in business, to the amazing kitchen staff and food selection, to the bartenders that actually remember your name, Brooklyn Ice House is a gem of Brooklyn. Do yourself and your friends a favor - dine at Brooklyn Ice House.
Some of the greatest people on earth 🌎🌍
Amazing vibe and the food is great. Not crowded with hipsters like some of the more traditional watering holes in the neighborhood.
Awesome dive with interesting characters. Part hipster. Part blue collar. Part local. Part wanderer. Don't expect much and you will enjoy the time spent there.
Best value in red hook
Great spot to grab a drink mid afternoon as this place has a good vibe and not too many people! Good service and affordable prices
Great cheap and divey bar in the neighborhood. The people are nice and the backyard is roomy, if only people didn't smoke so much.
Been here a few times. Great dive bar and the back is nice place to go on a warm day.
Yeah. Pulled pork is amazing. Ask for a big one or you only get a little burger bun sized one which wasn’t quite enough for a hungry dude.
Great food, great vibe, I can’t say enough, best place in the area Cash only though so bring cash! Although they do have an ATM
Best burger and beer in town. Dive, don’t expect frills. Be nice and they will treat you like family. Love this bar.
Great food at reasonable prices. The specials are actually really good, and pulled pork sliders are hefty and juicy with pickles to boot. Sweet potato fries are also consistently tasty. Sit in the back yard if it's open!
I had the pulled pork here. So delicious. My cousin had the veggie burger and she was delighted with it. They also have back area too which is pretty cool. You have select bars that do have a back area to hang out in.
I Love the Ice House. I don’t go as much as I did ten years ago but I always create warm memories and I’m always treated well, which is a real treat these days. It’s cash only, and I hope that by saying so in a review I’ll remember for myself next time. (There’s an ATM on site!) Oh, and ten years ago I was here drinking my cash tips and I met my lawyer! It was one of the most New York City moments I’ve ever had.
As a person born and raised in Red Hook since 1955 thought I get together with friends and family and see what Van Brunt had to offer although a good friend of mine owns this property I wasn’t so thrilled about the way the place looked it looked run down but we made the most of it to be honest I was not at all impressed with this Van Brunt Vibe I have seen better times Parking was a nightmare luckily I parked in front of my parents home just a block away ran into a couple of old buddies from the early 60s when I attended Visitation Catholic school which is now a Court House besides that I have nothing more to add.JuanP
I love their outdoor space on the back! Very pretty. After visiting Pioneer Works, we always come here to have burgers and beer! Veggie burger is available too.
Great dive bar with a solid menu. If you are in Red Hook and want to hang with the locals, this is the spot.
The exterior is divey, but the food is great! We sat on the back porch for the “dirty dog,” fish tacos and sweet potato fries. All were excellent and the fish tacos were huge!
Absolutely my favorite bar in Brooklyn. Great prices, great service, great food. 2 for $5 pulled pork sandwiches (too big to even consider sliders). Can’t beat this hidden gem!
Absolutely loved every moment. The wait staff, the food and the wine selection. I can not wait to go back to visit my family in the area and enjoy another incredible evening there. Thanks to all who worked that night! ❤💕
Delicious food, really great vibes, was so happy here. 🙌
Great selection, prices, and food. Super friendly staff and regulars. Kinda small inside but doesn’t feel tight.
Food slaps, bartenders are nice, great backyard, good vibes all around
The best, cheapest pulled pork slider you're likely to find. Plus, a great selection of bourbons. But even if this place only had frozen buffalo wings and PBR, the relaxed, low key atmosphere would be enough.
I was just visiting New York for work over the weekend and I decided to get out and see the city. I grabbed a Citi Bike and ended up meandering into Brooklyn. I wanted a cold beer on a hot day and this place looked like a great local watering hole. Great bartender, cold beer, excellent kitchen, really reasonably priced. I ended up spending a few hours kicking it with some of Red Hook's locals, and wish I could go back today. Most "dive bars" these days are somewhat curated, this is just a great neighborhood watering hole.
A wonderful little friendly and busy little bar in the heart of Brooklyn. Great beer and the burgers are knockout! Will definitely return
Love this bar. Best burger in Red Hook and best punk rock playing in the back ground.
Super solid dive bar with a good selection of European beers and a spacious backyard. The food is typical bar fare, can’t go wrong with the burger or onion rings. Their veggie burger is a great meatless option for those that would prefer it. Honestly the prices are a breath of fresh air around here, everything has gotten so expensive in this neighborhood. You can get a meal and a buzz for 30 bucks here, as opposed to a 25 dollar lobster roll next door, or a 25 dollar burger across the street. If you sit outside it’s easier to order at the bar than wait for service, since there’s usually just one bartender working on week days. Shout out the Corey, who is a gem. It’s a dive bar people! Adjust expectations accordingly and you won’t be disappointed here.
Tasty burgers, cold beer, good customer service. What more could you want? Ended up here for food on a Sunday night when everywhere else has closed their kitchens already. Classic cash only dive bar vibes, in a good way. ATM on site for cash!
I don't drink, but the food is to die for. Plus, word is... San Padros is a bar/grill next door who is now being Black Listed. Why? Happy hour drinks were $5 and now they are $8. And didn't even tell the customers. My wife was with a friend and when they got to the park and actually looked at the bill it was like...REALLY! So go to Ice House,it's right next door PERIOD!
We went on a Friday night, my first time. It's a small bar but it was crowded and the folks were all having a good time. We ordered some fried onion rings to wash down the beers with. A group of folks next to us sang happy birthday and there was a cake with a lot of candles. It's got a divey feel to it but it's friendly and the service is nice. A cool place to just hang and relax.
A traditional dive. Small and cozy. Excellent service, nice crowd. The chef is young and very talented. Had the best burger in years. Fully cooked but juicy. Enough juice to make it moist but not that much to get it all over you. Perfectly seasoned meat. The bun did not overwhelms the burger. Served with a spicy aïoli. For an extra buck, substitute the regular fries for the sweet potato ones. Only drawback, is cash only.
Cash only place in Red Hook that serves decent food at decent prices out of a small kitchen. The place isn’t all that big, but that’s not a bad thing either. Good selection of draft beers as well as beer and shot specials (my go-to). All of that is great, but my favorite part would have to be the bowl of candy near the door with skittles and sour patch kids for when you leave.
I have frequented this bar for food and drinks, and I have to highly recommend this place. The food is really nice and there's a lot of it. The drinks selection is awesome, such a varied selection that I want to stay and try all of them. The locals are friendly as well and some are up for a chat. In the summer the garden at the back is spacious and gets the sun, forever there is cover provided to allow to sit in the shade. The decor is great, it's nothing fancy and up market, it's cool a plus they have screens so you can watch sports. I can't recommend this place enough, it's my go to bar when I'm in Red Hook
This is a dive bar that I have been to quite a few times, and both the cuisine and the drinks there are excellent. The food is delicious, and they have a substantial quantity of it. The people are welcoming, and some of them are even open for a discussion. The only downsides are that they don’t deliver and they only accept cash.
The best burger in New York may be at Red Hook Tavern. But the best burger in Red Hook is at Ice House.
Great feeling and amazing staff you always meet someone interesting. The menu changes and is a bit small but everything on it always good. They have great shot and chaser items and amazing selection of beer. There is also an outside so you can drink and smoke which is always a plus in my book everyone that works there is great and so nice to be with.
Amazing food and fun, intimate crowd. Unpretentious and authentic dive. Bartenders are not a-holes. Great vibe - and the backyard is da bomb dot com. Bonus points for having a bar regular that is a squirrel. Owners are cool family people. Support local business!!
We had a chicken Sandwich and a Burger + a little birthday drink for my boyfriend -> thanks a lot for this ♡ It was very delicious and a nice evening.
Great drinks at great prices. Delicious food
This dive bar is great! Their kitchen is a little bit bigger than a closet and cranks out really good food. Dinner specials every day that you wouldn't expect looking at the place. Fantastic burgers that are perfectly cooked. Did I mention the ice cold beers and excellent bartenders?
I love a dive and this place provided! Aisling was phenomenal; she was constantly busy, yet consistently on top of everyone’s drink orders. She’s incredible!! Although I’m not a local, I was welcomed and treated as one. I can’t wait to visit again! Promised I’d be back, and I don’t break my promises. See you all soon :)
Went on a Saturday and the bartender was friendly, attentive (and handsome) despite the crowd. Good food, friendly clients, and nice tunes! Should note that the kitchen closes at 11pm, not 4am.
Great place with amazing dive feels and huge backyard! Bartenders are attentive and awesome. Kitchen open until 11pm everyday and with amazing food from the chefs. Best Red Hook spot... enjoy!
I'm thinking this is my favorite place to get a drink when in Dumbo . Great bar food . Great prices . it's exactly what it is . A local spot with a backgyard . Cold drinks, a good burger & fries, hot dogs, pulled pork, and a bunch of other snacks for your liking . Drink specials all day long Cash only Atm on premise
My boyfriend picked this place to eat after our activities yesterday. I read the reviews and a lot of people said it was a dive bar. I wasn’t concerned because those be the places that have the bomb food. We both had bacon cheeseburgers and they were really good, and drinks were good too. We would visit again.
This place is so awesome, that I proposed to my girlfriend there this past Saturday night. Our friend Liz brought us last year and we had such a great time and everyone was so nice and real, that it is now a special place for us. Such a great place with great people. Special thanks to Liz, Kerry, and Michael, as well as anyone there in the back with us when I popped the question. Awesome bar!
Don't trick yourself looking from the outside. Once you get inside you will find a cozy, lay back and cool atmosphere to enjoy drinks, food or be in the backyard with friends. There is no push from the bartender to get drinks every time, no drunk people yelling, good spot with music, tv and special event. This has become our place and we had a great time everytime we show up. Don't expect to have a waiter checking on you all time time because the bartender is pretty much the one who run the tables when they can, still they are always available and helpful for whatever you need. Prices are very affordable including for drinks and they got special and happy hours. Highly recommended place if you want a classic old school bar in a cozy warm place in a safe environment to eat or drink.
A true Red Hook gem, and an unparalleled place to spend a Sunday afternoon. These guys have everything you want in a day drinking spot: awesome burgers and wings (especially the wings), cheap beer/shot specials, board games and a jar of candy by the door. Spend an afternoon at this place and you’ll wanna come back again and again.
Don't let the front fool you, there actually is an awesome outdoor backyard! Add to this the great beer list and you're ready for a chill afternoon with friends. Some people even play games like Connect4.
In an area with slim food pickings there's this atmospheric little neighborhood bar with a great selection of beers and decent food. Go for the vibe and the local characters. I'll definitely be back.
A straightforward bar bar. They serve a tasty and cheap Frito pie. A good place to spend some time during the day, don't know what it's like at night
Awesome neighborhood divey kind of bar. Amazing and huge backyard. Good prices and great food. Nice that it opens early. It would get 5 stars, but it is cash only which I think is a ridiculous policy.
Not much to be said, great bar. Nice selection of beers in bottle and can, with somewhere around 4-8 beers on tap ( a seemingly rotating list of tap beers.) There is an excellent backyard space that is wonderful equipped with a fire pit for those chilly nights. The inside has a nice wood decor and a few candy buckets (yes candy buckets) for all of you people with sweet tooth's. They do have a kitchen with a pretty simple bar menu, but tasty. Food, beer and hopefully friends will equal to a good time here. If you're ever in Red Hook stop by here, I know it will be my go to.
This is a nice dive bar in Red Hook. I liked the vibe and the mix of people. There were no signs or kids, which is what I want from a bar. When I was there in a Saturday afternoon they were busy, but we still managed to find a place to sit.
First things first. Their Happy Hour is 12-8pm. I wasn't sure exactly what their Happy Hour really entails because it isn't listed on the outside stand alone display board nor is it listed on the chalkboards behind where the bartenders work. What IS listed are the beers they serve, where they are from, and prices. Next to the 2 boards that are displaying the beers comes the board for the food. The food is mostly small items like sliders (pork), fries, etc. The sliders are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. They were decent and nothing really to rave about but even so they beat a lot of other dive bars that serve food. The grill is conveniently located just on the other side of the wall where the food menu is hung and you can watch the cook make the food for you if you like. However, the space is normal sized for a dive bar. It can get crowded rather quickly especially around the bar area resulting in a traffic jam or sorts trying to get to the sit down tables which seats around 10 people comfortably that faces the bar. There is 1 pinball machine and 1 shooting game that was probably hot in the 90's but it gives you this sense of the grunge upfront. There is a backyard patio that has a large tent like awning that has communal wooden tables and benches that fits around 12 people as well as outer corner tables that can fit 4 people per section AND the 2 communal bench tables just as you open the door leading to the backyard in the first place. That fits 4 people comfortably on each setting. Most people that eat in the backyard just leave the garbage there which is pretty much the beer glasses and plastic treys that the food come in but as always you should just bring it back to the bar to save the bartender(s) the trouble of having to come back here stopping the pour of beers to clear your shyt. That is simply a no-no and I'm sure they'd appreciate it as well. This bar is located on the most busiest street of Red Hook which is easily accessible by car or bus. Not so much subway as that would mean you'd either have to transfer to the bus or walk a good 10 long blocks to get here. I made the foolish mistake of doing so on the way back and I will tell you this, the dogs be sore. This is a no frills all attitude type of bar, in a good way. I'd definitely come back for more beer and food if I'm in the area.
If you don’t like this place you don’t belong here and you’re no fun. It’s a great place to unwind. Please don’t show up in a suit or tie. Please. This place is all about the atmosphere of a typical dive bar where only the cool kids hang out.
All the food was awesome and very sharable here and they have a great selection of drinks as well. Shots are kind of small (served in tiny plastic shot cups), and it is exclusively cash only, but there is an ATM on site and their outdoor space is very spacious and can accommodate larger groups.
This Red Hook staple has a great atmosphere, with a menu that tastes like a home-cooked meal. The backyard is a perfect spot to hang out, and the staff always bring a friendly vibe. Plus, the pints are affordable and well-served. A solid place to enjoy time with both old and new friends.
Over rated. Liked the back yard and cool hole in the wall. But Waitress had attitude and overall it was run of the mill.
A great bar for a beer, onion rings or fries, and cheap pulled pork sliders. Love sitting in the outdoor patio area at the back of the bar in the summertime.
Really chill backyard space! Small menu; the sweet potato fries were so salty that I feared for my organs. Average service, and reasonable prices except for the $5 in ATM fees you're going to swallow since they don't make it clear until your bill comes that it's cash only :O
I didn't think the bbq was as good as everyone else claimed it was, but for a relaxing afternoon in the backyard with some cheap brews and good friends you can't really go wrong. There's a good deal of space so this place is great for groups. It's a bit of a dive, but that's just fine if that's what you're looking for here.
I hate cash only bars, and the drinks are never strong. I only go there when there's slow bartenders at San Pedro next door and I can't leave the area. At least they have free candy though. And the food isn't bad.
Rated high for the overall atmosphere and dive bar vibes. The food is broadly average at really good prices. Solid enough food if you’re having beers and enjoying the evening but not good enough to come for on its own. The 7.5 burger was a little soggy bun with little in the way of flavour. The 7.5 wings were a good size but a little dry. The fries and onion rings were 6.5 at best, far too over crisped. The best dish was the 8.5 tater tots, great fresh fry and salt combo!
9/10/23 Placed an order for 1 dozen wings, potato skins and chicken quesadillas. Was advised 40 minutes on phone. Showed up at 45 minutes. Order was not ready. She insisted it was in the kitchen , though I watched her put the order into system. She then blamed it due to the Browns game I've been there onweeknights when it was more crowded than today. Being that it was freshly cooked, food shouldhave been hot. It was cool to lukewarm at best. I only live 7 minutes away from the bar.
Mixed impressions. The bar itself is great, with decent selection of beers and liquors. Barmen were all friendly and efficient . Nice outdoor setting, but was impossible to get a waitress although there were not really many people to serve, it was half empty. So I went back to the bar. The burger I ordered came out quite fast, but they forgot fries somehow - had to go myself to kitchen and remind them. And then I tried the burger - tasteless is a mild word to describe it. Better get McSomething than this. Really disappointing...
Stopped by to grab some food but the burger was still raw inside and the cook didn’t use any gloves while preparing the food. To even make the matter worse he was touching his phone and food back to back.
probably about the rudest service I’ve ever experienced lol If ur a masochist or into some humiliation kink then this is the spot 4 u 👌
No photos to take as this place after not being welcomed by the host/ess, had to ask of it was alright for me and my adult/young children to sit. Waited over 15 min to see a waiter, not a welcoming feeling. Seeing others who arrived after us being served, ugh. Then most items weren't available. It was only 7pm on a Friday. A very bland atmosphere :/ We wound up leaving and went to BUDDY'S BURRITO Kitchen and Bar Mexican cuisine (WOW! Now that is a place that will leave you wanting more! You won't have be dissapointed. I wouldn't recommend BIH to any of my friends as word of mouth goes far and so does a little hospitality. Former waitress/bar maid, but still a social 🦋.
Aggressive men in the bar- female bartender didn’t nothing to mitigate. Aggressive, grabby man was not asked to leave, after multiple attempts to get him to stop grabbing me and speaking to me. Bartender kept giving him shots, despite the fact that he was drunk and making unwanted advances to female guests.
Bartender was pretty rude to me when I came in last week. I was super taken aback tbh — I’ve worked in service, I know sometimes it gets busy and you can’t always take a second to be attentive but I have never received such passive aggressive service. Wings were good, mozz sticks were cold, burgers that my friend got seemed alright but I wouldn’t go back because of service
I express my profound dissatisfaction with Bartneder's customer service. We were repeatedly informed that gratuity was mandatory, despite ordering only bottled/canned beverages and food; no specialized drink preparation or table service was involved. While we intended to tip, this expectation was negated by the server's approach of offering shots and subsequently demanding gratuity beforehand. Consequently, I will be patronizing The Kettle Black instead😎🐎!!!
