Brooklyn Roots Brooklyn Reviews
We always have an amazing experience at Brooklyn Roots, and my family is in often. The staff is warm, welcoming and friendly, and the food is always amazing. No matter what I order, I wind up with leftovers to enjoy the next day (or two). My four year old is obsessed with the fish specials, but the staff is always willing to accommodate any changes to dishes for her if necessary. While I have my favorite dishes, (sauteed calamari, chicken Marsala, Caesar salad to name a few) I also enjoy trying the specials. The Brooklyn Roots burger is so unexpected for an Italian restaurant, and has no business being as good as it is! Easily one of my favorite burgers. My family orders catering for Christmas, and it's the same level of delicious and comfort as a home cooked meal from family. Also, I love how cozy the restaurant looks decorated for the holidays! Can't recommend Brooklyn Roots and the staff enough!
The food is great! Everything on this menu is good from salads to pastas and meats. If you like seafood the octopus salad is delicious the meat is tender and taste really good. The atmosphere is good and the service is great they are very friendly and make you feel welcome. If you looking for a great meal and having a good time I highly recommend this place 👌
Brooklyn Roots truly delivers on its promise of old-style Italian cooking. From the first bite, it feels like stepping back into a classic Italian kitchen where everything is made with care and tradition. The appetizers set the tone perfectly—tender meatballs, crispy rice balls, and flavorful stuffed mushrooms to name a few. The main courses are just as memorable. The spaghetti with white clam sauce is perfectly executed, the chicken marsala is rich and comforting, and the Matty Guns pasta (!!) is an absolute standout—bold, satisfying, and unforgettable with a kick. And don’t skip dessert—they’re the kind that make you linger at the table just a little longer. The staff is attentive and friendly. The space itself is intimate and welcoming, and paired with the food, it genuinely feels like grandma’s kitchen—warm, authentic, and full of heart. Brooklyn Roots isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience rooted in tradition, and they hit the mark in every way. Eccezionale!🍝❤️
Stephanie was truly extraordinary, and the entire staff at Brooklyn Roots made us feel so incredibly welcomed and cared for from the moment we walked in. Her warmth, generosity, and genuine heart shined through every part of our experience. From accommodating us without a reservation to treating us to the most unforgettable bread pudding, she is an absolute gem. We’re visiting from North Carolina and gladly took an $80 Uber—and even blistered our feet walking across the Manhattan Bridge—just to get here, and it was beyond worth it. Every dish was phenomenal, served in generous portions, and clearly made with love and pride. What truly set this place apart was the atmosphere. It felt rare and special—no phones, no distractions—just people fully present, sharing incredible food and real conversation. We saw first dates, family reunions, friends laughing together, and it all blended into the most heartwarming environment. Thank you to Stephanie and the entire Brooklyn Roots team for creating such a meaningful, memorable experience. You reminded us what dining out is supposed to feel like, and we are deeply grateful. Oh. And the espresso martini … 😙🤌
HUGE portion sizes was what our server warned us from the start, and boy was that an understatement! What we ordered for dinner was enough for lunch and dinner the next day! Hats off to this place for serving such a delicious menu, from meatballs to their selection of seafood, we were very impressed by how great everything tasted! Service was beyond amazing—very warm and inviting, just amazing people here! Will be coming back now that we know Brooklyn Roots lives up to their reputation. Must try!
I recently dined at Brooklyn Roots Italian Restaurant in the heart of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and it was a culinary delight! The dishes I tried were all made with care and bursting with flavor. The pasta with clams was a standout, with perfectly cooked clams and a savory sauce. The stuffed mushrooms with sausage were rich and satisfying, while the Chicken Francese was cooked to perfection. The filet mignon was tender and full of flavor. But the real showstopper was the 7 cheese lasagna special - a must-try while it's still available! The combination of cheeses was absolute perfection. Service was great, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Highly recommend Brooklyn Roots for a delicious Italian meal in Bay Ridge!
My family and I come here all the time as it's one of our favorite spots. They do classic Italian-American style dishes and everything we've had there has been really delicious. The portions are really big so you can definitely make it family style although my family tends to order individual plates because we like to eat. Also, the best dishes are not even on the menu because the specials are what they do best. I highly recommend going there and seeing what specials they have that day.
This is an awesome family style restaurant. I have some picky eaters in my family and everyone loved the food! This restaurant is worth the trip (near or far). The staff are all incredibly friendly, welcoming and accommodating. They have a wonderful menu packed with amazing food but please take a moment to hear their specials! Either way you can’t go wrong! This restaurant is wheelchair accessible and kid friendly!
The food was delicious. The atmosphere was very inviting. The service was excellent, the staff were very nice. Ridley went above and beyond to make our dining experience enjoyable. We started with the baked clams, crispy artichokes, & mozzarella en carrozza. Next we had the chicken parm with homemade pasta. We finished our meal with fresh cheesecake and tiramisu. The food was great and the portions were huge. We had a really nice time and will definitely come back.
Yesterday i and my friend visit restaurant for the first time, working in restaurant business for many years i really can rate this place for food service, and wine menu 5✨️✨️✨️,it was amazing, staff very attentive, food was incredible delicious 😋 chef stop by to ask how was the food,if we like everything, it was so nice that restaurant owener care about customer satisfaction and make them to feel welcome. Highly recommend to visit this place,we definitely gonna be back!!!Thank you again for amazing food!!!🌸
IMMACULATE. Literally the only word I can use to describe my experience tonight. We were debating all day what to order. (My best friend lives here) we asked what the specials were - so we could narrow down the choices. When he said “Sunday sauce (sawce)” we KNEW that was the choice to make. For a brief moment in my life I had an Italian stepmom who would make Sunday sauce, and I knew immediately nothing else mattered. Give me the sauce, extra cheese, extra bread and a big bottle of red wine. If you’re coming to Brooklyn Roots, and you need to feed your soul (and a small army) get the Sunday sauce. Obviously only available on Sunday. First and only runner up was the chicken Marsala. Damn it Bobby that dish was AMAZING also. Since we aren’t professional eaters we only managed those 2 dishes plus some cookies. The octopus looked amazing, the chicken parm was HUGE, and some seafood pasta dish also was looking prettyyyy good. Long story short “if you’re not getting the Sunday sauce what are you even doing??”
The Bay Ridge food tour continues, with this classic Italian eatery. Be warned, you will gain weight after eating here as the portions are very generous. Most plates can easily be shared by 2 or more. We ordered the porterhouse special which was a 40oz steak with an appetizer and 2 sides included. We picked the BR burrata, the Parmesan crusted asparagus and the parmesan artichokes. And the bread pudding for dessert. Everything was sooo delicious, but there was no way the 2 of us could finish everything. We ended up with enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow as well.
A family style restaurant. Which means you basically go here to share the meals with a few people. They have a full bar where you can sit down and eat.I go here often with family and friends or by myself. If you sit at a table and you’re lucky enough to get the waitress Kate. She is on top of her game and will serve you the way you want to be served. If the tables are booked, and you sit at the bar, don’t worry Wil the bartender will also serve you your meals. I deal with him all the time he is amazing.
What could I possibly say. Our children gave us a Christmas gift card to this restaurant. We, finally were able to go. Parking wasn’t bad at all . Was able to find a spot right away. Going into Brooklyn Roots brought back memories of the old days. Small but prefect. So we were greeted by the one of the workers that sat down right away. The server promptly came to us asking the usual. What would you like to drink and what the special’s were. I will definitely say the food was ABSOLUTELY Delicious……the amount of food was incredible. Most restaurants give you small portions but not Brooklyn Roots. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to everyone. If you want great food and a good amount definitely go and try it. You will not be disappointed. To the owner and cook don’t stop what you’re doing. You have something special here.
What a gem in Bayridge!!! Just know you can feel the ITALIAN pride in this place. We did not have a reservation but went in when they first opened around 430pm. They sat us right away. Its very comforting, warm ambiance. I love the servers who was bringing the garlic pan around the establishment and making it smell delicious. Our server was so nice. Well, two of them. A shorter woman and a taller young man. The woman explained the specials and also suggested a pasta and sauce with a couple of meatballs. I ordered the eggplant parm and he ordered the chicken Francese. Everything was very very good. Portions: so big. The only thing I was not too fond of was the way over eggy taste of the francese sauce. Otherwise the pasta was fresh and aldente to perfection, sauce delicious and chicken in the francese was very good! I am excited to go again and try something else! Get two or three plates and share all around!!!
Our order: - Espresso Martini (not the best) - Stuffed Mushrooms (they said they would pack these up for us but never gave them back) - Penne and Meatballs - Orecch Pasta with Sausage - Pork chop special The service was very slow. They must have been down a server. And with all of the mistakes with our order it just didn’t seem like they cared about our dining experience at all. The espresso martini was no where near the best, stick with wine and beer. The Orecch pasta was also not great, something strange with the lemon flavor. But the pork chop special was very very good. Very large portions. My wife and I could have shared a single dish and still had some to take home.
Walking into Brooklyn Roots Italian feels less like stepping into a restaurant and more like being invited into someone’s home—if that someone was a line cook who’d spent decades honing a mean vodka sauce between Brooklyn and fine-dining kitchens. Chef Thomas Perone wears his roots on his sleeve—and on a red-checkered tablecloth. The deals with “Old School Italian-American” aren’t just marketing flair. These folks serve food meant to feed a family, maybe two—not the delicate, Instagrammable portions that you wrestle with these days. Think massive servings of Chicken Scarpariello, Eggplant Rollatini, Veal Marsala, and a lobster pasta that’s rolled my eyes back into my head. In short, Brooklyn Roots Italian is a kitchen with DNA—solid, soulful, unapologetically generous. It’s not haute cuisine, but it’s honest, satisfying, and some of the best “red-sauce” cooking in the borough. I wish they’d whisper, “Order less,” before the food arrives. Verdict: 4 stars—because the food punches above its weight, the atmosphere feels real, and for those who remember meals that left you full in both belly and heart, this place hits the mark.
A friend of mine and i went here to have a early dinner on Saturday night. The hostess was friendly sat us right away asked if we had a reservation we did not. I do suggest if you go later in the evening to make one. Wait staff was very attentive to anything or everything that we needed. We ordered baked clams (12) kind of small but good they need more of something like a spice i don't know. Our entrees were broccoli rabe with sausage and pasta, i ordered eggplant parm (no pasta) it was an extra 6.00 it was good large portion. I did ask to take the leftover home and the wait staff forgot to pack it and never give it to me. We did order a cheesecake that came with lemon zest on the plate and on the cake it was alright, and i ordered a cappuccino (which was not very hot) Spent over 100.00 (not including tip). Honestly the food was kind of bland nothing really to brag about.
