Der Pioneer Brooklyn Reviews
This is our favorite coffee shop, by far! It is so much more than just a coffee shop! So many tasty options, sweet and savory. The owners are always front and center greeting patrons. The place is always very clean and well organized. They have also made some nice pivots to work safely through COVID. I highly recommend a visit to give them a try! Advice, come early, because they run out of the more popular items earlier in the day.
I love this coffee shop! I love the turmeric Oat Latte here, as well as, some caffeinated beverages. Tried the veggie quiche and it's so good! I also love the breakfast bean burrito -- it's so big and filling and it's delicious! And you can't go wrong with a baked good here, either!
The most delicious fresh pastries and cookies in the hood. I highly recommend the roasted chicken sandwich, veggies abound and a crispy baguette. The prices are slightly more affordable than some of the other coffee shops in the neighboring hood of Ditmas.
I love this place! It’s very cozy. The staff are super polite, and if you come often, they even try to remember your name. I love the food and coffee and come here every other day. It’s one of my favorite coffee shops. On warm days, there’s a terrace outside. It’s kid-friendly and laptop-friendly (except on weekends).
I loved this beautiful place ! Their lemon tart was absolutely amazing—bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced. We also tried the dark chocolate mousse dome and a tiny éclair, both delicious and beautifully made. The pastries here are consistently great, and the coffee is solid too. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for working or studying, with plenty of people doing the same. The barista is super sweet, and the outdoor seating area is adorable with a big mural of two pigeons that gives the place such a fun NYC vibe. Highly recommend
If you like social arenas Der Pioneer is the spot . Classic cafe meals nothing fancy not recommended for interviews or business meetings. Great family ambiance, before adventures . Small studying refresher before a big exam . I recommend Der Pioneer for quick breakfast and brunch delicacy
The biggest perk about this place for me is that the laptop free for the most part of when they are open. So anyone who's trying to do some work on a computer usually steers clear of this place, leaving the atmosphere for individuals who just want to enjoy a book, conversation, or other things than...well, just that! Service is always amazing. The pastries are always great. They're accommodating for people who are vegan, so they make a pretty mean cappachino with oat milk.
I am CRAZY about the pastries here! LOVE the almond chocolate croissants. Espresso is perfectly crafted and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. I walk past two other coffee shops to go here because it is 5x more enjoyable and the quality of food and staff cant be beat! I found this spot by walking by and after reading up on the owners backstory - it all makes sense… he is passionate and it shows! Again, i am crazy for croissants in generally and this place hits the mark perfectly. Prices are reasonable considering the spot down the street charges similar for sub par croissants and weird service. Certainly worth going out of the way to go to Der Pioneer. Plenty of outdoor space out back, inside can get a bit packed during rush hours. Plenty of people bring their kids here, they are friendly to people with laptops but have windows for laptops on certain tables to ensure people can find a spot.
Chef Bjorn made the most incredible cake for my baby shower! Being Persian, we love flavors like banana, whipped cream, and pistachio, and I shared this with him—he improvised beautifully, creating a cake with a whipped cream, banana mousse pistachio and raspberry inside that completely wowed my guests. Hands down, the best-tasting cake I’ve had since moving to the U.S. 14 years ago! Not only was it delicious, but he also perfectly replicated the design I had in mind. So lucky to have such a talented chef in the neighborhood! (And it is as easy as emailing him, he nailed the assignment in few words 😄
Stopped by Der Pioneer Bakery after a vocal lesson nearby, and WOW—what an incredible experience! Everything I picked up was absolutely phenomenal. The honey cinnamon scone, blackout cake, cardamom bun, and pumpkin slice were all 🤤 also grabbed an oat matcha, which was super smooth and creamy. The owner and staff were working so hard, yet they were incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can tell there’s so much passion and care put into everything they do here. The warm atmosphere and top-notch service made my visit even more memorable. Der Pioneer Bakery is a must-stop~ Highly recommend if you’re looking for exceptional pastries and good vibes! ☺️
An absolute gem for this neighborhood, the pastry is as close as it can get to the highest quality European pastry and the food is amazing!!! the breakfast burrito is the best I’ve ever had and I’m from Austin Texas so I know my burrito. My favorite part is the ambiance of seeing these beautiful people in the kitchen working. The owner is super nice and always present making things.
This is one of my favorite coffee shop. There is enough seating and a variety of pastries/breakfast options. The cheddar and chive biscuit is one of the best we’ve had and I throughly enjoyed the walnut and banana bread. There are several seats inside and there is also an outdoor seating area as well. I come here at least 1-2 a month.
Food is delicious. I’ve gotten a few things when I used to work in the area. I tried to get the too good to go bag because I’ve seen others get a bunch of goodies. In my bag today 9/21/24 I got 2 bread rolls and 1 piece of vegan cake not a fan) . I guess it’s better to just pay $5 and get 1 thing you actually want. I drove 17 minutes out of my way to pick it up thinking I’d get stuff to share with the kids on a Sunday evening. There were a bunch of sandwiches and things left over in the stand but I guess you hey what you get.
Coffee was good. Food was good. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Interior and outside seatings are great. We ordered so vegetable breakfast - it was a served with toasts soaking in tomato sauce - I’ll suggest to serve it on separate plate. Sweets are awesome. We will comeback for sure. But probably for pastries and sweets. And definitely breakfast burrito, it looked sooo good when we saw it on someone’s plate. Great place to have yum sweets with coffee ☕️
The choices for the baked goods were limited and overpriced for this area. The coffee was decent but again the prices defeats this point in this area again. The ambiance is ok. Everything should be about a dollar or two lower. They have 5th ave prices here. All the one stars here is due to (reheating displayed food and outrageous prices). My reviews require all places to have value but Der Pioneer does not have value or low value.
