George & Jacks Tap Room Brooklyn Reviews
Nearly naked Santa was majestic as hell on Halloween, free popcorn and water was nice too. I'd go again.
my go to in williamsburg! $5 24oz narranganset, free popcorn, free pool, and quite possibly the best aux in the city
happy hour deals, free popcorn, dogs, friendly atmosphere. and you ask for more…?!!
Fantastic bar with good cheap beer, a friendly atmosphere, and free popcorn. The fact that they have a number of great microbrews for $5 is enough reason for me.
A great dive bar with a deceivingly large interior. The bartenders are very nice people.
One of our favorite classic neighborhood dives. Great for darts! Cheap beer & shot combos. Excellent staff.
Great vibe, friendly bar staff, plenty of good beer on tap, what’s not to like?
Great local spot - staff is so friendly. Lovely mix of casual during the week and night out on the weekends
They have a pool table and a projector and I beat my dumb brother at darts here. 10/10
Really good bar for playing pool and a good NFL game. Seats are very comfortable and good atmosphere.
Awesome atmosphere, you can bring your pups, great drinks! And Ms. Ginger is always a pleasure!
Great beer and atmosphere! Slightly overpriced but a great spot in Brooklyn.
Best dive bar in Williamsburg. Amazing bartenders. Drinks are strong and beers are cold!
Renovated outdoor seating, brilliant staff, fun atmosphere, so dog friendly it is almost dog preferred. Makes for a great bar!
Nice place in Williamsburg with pool and jukebox with a nice selection of music. The owner really take care about the situation there, so always quite and nice
One of the best cd jukeboxes I've ever seen filled! Affordable drinks and one of the greatest dive vibes around
Nice casual place. Good selection of beers at fair prices. Staff is very friendly. Crowd tends to be friendly also
Great beer on tap, free popcorn and dogs running around. If you like any of these options stop in you will not be disappointed.
A perfect place for a casual drink. Some good seating options
I will be back purely because Anthony the doorman is the biggest gentleman. What a guy ♥️
Great spot, cool bartender, liberal bathroom policy. The kind of bar the world will always need.
Always a pleasure. Good selection, nice location, & clean bathrooms... Say hi to Ginger for me and tip your bartenders!
Ginger was a delight!! Phenomenal bar and astounding program!! From Texas but definitely would love to come back!!
Truly a great bar cool vibe in the back with the pool table the bartenders are straight shooters get in get out. Cash is king I think card has a xtra tax. Guinness was poured perfectly!
Im going to be honest. This bar is not in Cleveland Ohio. Its not in Lakewood Ohio either. But it feels like it is. In a good way. You know what I mean. Look, in NYC its hard to have your 'local' the way people have their pubs in London. This city is just too unwelcoming sometimes, too dense, too hectic. Packed But George and Jacks is the closest thing I've found to a neighborhood bar in a long time. And the popcorn is free
Excellent bar that combines a dive and classy experience in one. Beautiful, dark ambience in the initial room and then a more playful divey vibe in the back room. Bartenders are attentive and experienced.
The where everybody knows your name local Brooklyn bar. Drinking alcoholic beverages with kids half your age is great. Music great. Staff great. Crowd good. We stayed here for hours.
Has a decent crowd on a Tuesday night at 1 am. ATM works, and so does bathroom. Not a bad option when other bars are dead. I imagine it to be pretty fun during prime time especially when there is a crowd on late tuesday, but I haven't been there to observe it.
The best neighborhood bar. Not expensive and free popcorn! We have met the owners a few times, such great guys. The staff is bartenders are helpful and friendly. Go to bar in burg
Sweet darkly lit bar with a large selection of beers on tap. Has a large selection of liquor to choose from. Drinks are moderately priced with a friendly knowledgeable bar staff. One of the better bars of area for sure.
Love this place. Dive bar feel and great prices. Great drink selection as well. The bartenders are also very friendly to all. Free fresh popcorn too!
I have been coming to this place when it was called other names and it's always a fun, down to earth vibe. Great cocktails and beer, super packed, disco music, unpretentious atmosphere. Old school bar vibes.
Great bar with both indoor and outdoor seating. They have free popcorn Monday - Saturday, and surprisingly good bagels on Sunday.
Came in for one drink after dinner ended up staying for about 5 😂 decent selection of drinks with friendly and talkative staff. Would love to return one day
Great little dive bar with a pool table and awesome juke box in the corner. The bartender was nice and the drinks were good. I would definitely come back.
A fun and friendly dive bar in Williamsburg. Good beers, pool table in the back.
Good prices, chill vibe Free popcorn! They even had a bagel station? I didn’t try it but I love the snack options
Never been in. But it looks cute. Lots of people coming in and out drinking
I love this place. Great music. Great vibe. My favourite dive bar. But please don't come here because I need a quiet spot at the bar to write.
Awesome place to spend a rainy afternoon in Brooklyn. We are from Canada, and wanted to have a friendly neighborhood bar experience. We certainly got it here. They also had free bagels and cream cheese and vegetables on a Sunday. Bonus! The bartender greeted us and was very friendly. One bartender, Matt, had an excellent playlist. #1 experience!
Loved this place. The music was at just the right volume. You could have a chat, but still bop along. Such a difference to other bars on a Saturday night. Will definitely go back.
good pool table; felt & cues top notch, balls need an upgrade please! acrylic balls are cheap and the rest of what is offered is league level just get new balls and youre the best spot in bk for pool playing. beautiful local pub meets clean dive atmosphere.
Cool place and good selection of beers! Friendly bar staff, lovely place to have a sit down and take in the vibe of the bar and Brooklyn.
Best bar in the area. Great staff, free popcorn. Open till 4am, need I say more?
Love the popcorn & drink specials. They did, however, accidentally give us someone else’s card when closing out and I guess kept our card. Tried to call after we noticed but every phone number doesn’t work. Would be cool to have a functional phone number!
Was cool. Forgot the tenders name but she was very nice. A dude was in the back eating a burger with a side of lettuce in tinfoil. I've never seen a super villain irl b4 but he was cool ppl.
Fun bar with a pool table. Ive enjoyed this bar a couple time during the weeknights when it’s more chilled and everyone can play pool. Weekends are a bit too busy but still a fun vibe!
Overall a newer bar that tries to retain the old school "locals" bar in Billyburg. Rarely super packed like its southside sister, Skinny Dennis, and open till 4. $3 Schaeffer cans is THE absolute winner here for Brooklyn!
How it is really depends on the night but 80% of the time I've had a great time here and staff was friendly. The pluses are that they have a wide selection of fairly priced beers, it's a convenient location and it's a beautiful old bar. The downsides which are rare is that it can be very busy and bartenders can be sullen and unfriendly. Again, more good than bad.
Okay so this might be the straightest bar in Williamsburg. It’s a bit hot, temperature wise. Also plays great classic rock music. Truly fun music. I knew every word. Crowd is late 20s. Line for pool table as well as darts. People are friendly.
Can get a little crazy at times, but a very comfortable bar with good music and drinks.
This was a neat tap room. I loved all of the miscellaneous little things they had all over the bar, like the old-fashioned library lamp, a dart board, chalkboard, popcorn machine, taxidermy, etc. It was definitely able to pull off the "unique" vibe without coming off as corny. Would recommend!
Free popcorn and a large selection of beer on tap. The bar has seating for both small parties and large, seating both at the bar and at tables. Restrooms available. They don't have a drinks menu, but the bar tender told me they do make cocktails. No milk cocktails. Beware: the popcorn is very salty and will make you want to drink more :) but they do refresh it often and there's also tap water available without having to ask the bartender every time.
Not as awesome as they use to be with their game - room services. For me, George & Jacks' was all about their Pinball and Darts. No longer do I look at them for that manner
Used to be my go to bar but now every single time I come in my drink is a different price depending on the bartender. First 10, then 13 now 16 ? Not cool
Cool place, nice people and very good service. I am not sure if the music machine works or just takes your money. But let's be clear, there's always good music.
It's an ok bar. The popcorn machine in the back is a great addition. However, it does not (IMO) stand it out in the neighborhood.
Solid beers available, even some harder to find stuff like Big Eye IPA from the West Coast. Cozy wooden tables, bar stools, and benches. A popcorn machine in the back. That said, beer could have been colder and it was almost entirely empty in the afternoon. Nothing to really make it stand out too much in this neighborhood.
Brooklyn Ale House was an amazing local spot. They’ve done a great job upgrading the beer list at George and Jacks but no dogs is no bueno
The most insane bouncer. Why is he afraid of dogs? It’s a dog bar. Third terrible experience with this bouncer, with and without my 7 month old puppy. Can’t believe he is still employed.
Bouncer is incredibly rude and disrespectful. My friends and I left and will never return.
Subject: Incident Report: Unpleasant Experience with Bartender Dear George and Jacks Tap Room, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention an unfortunate incident that occurred during my recent visit to George and Jacks taproom. I believe it is crucial for management to be aware of such occurrences to maintain the reputation and inclusivity of your establishment. On 12/2/2023, around 10PM, my friends and I experienced an incident involving one of your staff members, specifically the bartender on duty(tall white balding man). Regrettably, the encounter was marked by rude and racist behavior directed towards two women of color who were part of our group. The comments made and the overall treatment of these individuals were not only offensive but also completely contrary to the welcoming atmosphere that we expect from George and Jack taproom. I believe in the importance of fostering an environment that is inclusive, respectful, and free from discrimination. I understand that incidents like these may not reflect the values of your establishment as a whole, and I trust that you take such matters seriously. It is my hope that you address this issue promptly by investigating the incident and taking appropriate action to ensure that all patrons feel comfortable and respected in your establishment. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to hearing about the steps taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Thank you for your time and commitment to maintaining a positive and inclusive environment at George and Jacks taproom. Sincerely, Customers
Do not go here if you’re over 21. Being underage is one thing, being wack is another. These kids clearly didn’t know how to act inside a bar. There were 19 year old kids stealing peoples’ drinks and antagonizing people at the pool table. Multiple patrons at the bar complained about them, bouncers did nothing about it. Seemed to be friends with them. Clown show. Will not be returning.
Sadly couldn’t try the drinks because it took over 20 min after I ordered so I left. Soooooo slow.
I was being harassed by some stranger and the bar crew did not do anything about it. Except for throwing beer all over my suit when I was trying to leave the bar following this very frightening and very unpleasant situation. Not okay, and very bad service
Those CHILDREN of bartenders with their entitled bratty doo-doo trash attitudes make this place unbearable!!! Mainly this little girl with little big glasses (and a chubbier one with tattoos all over). She is the epitome of brat child. On her phone and you have to ask for her, takes her time, AND has an attitude. I ATTEMPTED to resolve a situation in which I left my tab over night and they added extra drinks on it. I bought 4 drinks and they charged me for 10!!!! I attempted to talk to her like a normal human-being but NOPE she wants to jump out of her skin and start yelling for no other reason than she's her. I would use names but they would not give me their names. Probably because they're bratty children and know they were in the wrong. Moving on trying to resolve the tab with the problem another dude steps in and he essentially blames me for being drunk and not remembering how much I had to order (c'mon fam! really?!?), then told me other people probably ordered on my card. I'm like HOW?! Don't I need to present to order drinks on my card etc.. etc.. Now the bodyguard is talking to me because he's actually the most mature and cool person in the place. The owner didn't help either he just watched. I ended paying triple the amount of my drinks (which I will definitely be disputing) in order to just get out of there to keep my mind at peace for the rest of the evening. Yelp should really consider a negative star system or something. I wouldn't waist a second to lower my review. Save your troubles and your pets from these children by going to another bar where humans work and will treat you as such. And God forbid you leave your card overnight!!!!
Who was the security guard tonight? I asked him but he wouldn’t share his name. I don’t want to use the places google reviews for this convo I need to know his name and will keep pressing until I know his name. I have a photo of him if that helps.
Horrible experience. Horrible service. Rude and impolite bartender. Will not be back. Do yourself a favor and find a different bar!
Bartender forced me to show her the device while inputting a tip…
I do not often leave reviews, but when I do, there is a reason. I recently visited this establishment last week and experienced the worst customer service ever. At this bar I gave the bartender exact change because it’s exactly what I was holding and she was immediately like “you’re not gonna give me a tip or anything” Then she walked away and never came back after I was getting the tip and waited and just left after a few minutes and then she comes back and she’s like sooooo you’re not leaving a tip or anything? This is unbelievably rude and this is the last place I would ever recommend to visit.
Gender Harassment I initially had a nice time here - the bartenders and security guy at the entrance were nice. However, things took a turn for the worst with the bathroom situation. There are three single use bathrooms (2 across from each other and one in another corner). One says women, one says men, and one says women and men or something like that. I was waiting in line and ended up using the women's room since it was the one available. When I exited, some guy (who I thinks works there?) accosted me and told me I had to use the men's room. I told him it doesn't matter because all the bathrooms are single use. He said "well here it matters." I then said he didn't know my gender and he scoffed at that. Later that night, I went to the bathroom again and happened to use the women's room again because it was the one available, and again the guy harassed me when I exited the bathroom (I ignored him this time). I'm not sure why this bar has a bathroom policeman to tell people which bathroom to use. What he was doing was also illegal - It has been illegal in New York City to discriminate against an individual on the basis of gender identity or expression, including denying access to bathrooms, since 2002 (this is from the NYC Human Rights website). If he was there to stop people from using drugs in the bathroom, then he failed because I saw multiple people exiting a bathroom a few different times. Also, I saw at least one visibly trans / gender nonconforming person at the bar - I would hate to think that the guy was harassing that person too. He was working on Saturday night, February 10th. I will absolutely not be coming back here. He needs a sensitivity training or be fired.
We always thought this place was really cool but my opinion has changed significantly. Last year I had asked George and Jack's if I could reserve the back pool room for my wedding after-party. I had DM'd them multiple times, even making a few trips in person to let them know the date and time we'd be arriving. Management was awful at responding (red flag #1) but ... eventually ... they got back to me saying, they couldn't reserve the back room for me but that their staff would be ready for us. Fast forward to the night of, which was Sunday, January 14th 2024. It was 35 degrees out, and we just arrived after walking in our wedding attire from the Wythe Hotel. I was in my wedding dress and the bouncer outright REFUSED to let me in. I showed him all the messages that I had with management and I was still waiting at the door. When I asked to speak to the management, the Bouncer instead told me that he would never let me in. My friends had to slip him a $20 just to let me sit on the bench as we gathered the rest of our party who followed us here - so we could leave. It was an awful experience and has really left me hating this place. The quaint ambience is 10000% not worth the service, and the attitude.
Drink was just meh (for $22) and service was terrible. I was there with 2 friends we were sitting at the bar for an hour then we moved to the pool desk. There was a pool mafia who wasn’t owner (or maybe he was). He asked us to pay for playing with him! We just wanted to play together not with him why we had to pay also we didn’t allow to play! I think this is scam! I won’t return and you should go to other bars NOT HERE! Please don’t come here and go to other bars!
Last night my three friends and I walked into this bar hoping to grab a quick drink and unwind, but the experience immediately made us feel unwelcome. As soon as we walked in, the doorman seemed to assume that one of my friends was intoxicated because he walks with a limp. My friend has a disability he doesn’t use a cane, but he does walk with a noticeable limp. Instead of simply greeting us or asking if everything was okay, the doorman questioned whether we should even be allowed in. We essentially had to disclose my friend’s disability just to enter the bar, which was incredibly uncomfortable and inappropriate. No one should have to explain their disability just to be allowed into a public space. After that, we went over to the bar. Two of us ordered drinks without any issue. The bar itself was completely empty, and the bartender even mentioned that it had been a slow night. Trying to lighten the mood, our third friend joked and said something along the lines of, “I just want an ice water and a shot hey Let’s take a shot together,” offering to buy one for the bartender. Of course, no bartender is obligated to drink with customers that’s completely understandable. But instead of politely declining, the bartender responded by saying, “No there’s water in the back ,. I’m not your peer.” That response felt unnecessarily rude and dismissive. While it’s true that many service trainings emphasize that staff and patrons aren’t “peers,” saying that directly to customers who are simply trying to be friendly comes off as disrespectful. There are many ways to decline without making people feel belittled. Hearing that comment ….especially coming from a white bartender speaking to three Black customers made the interaction feel even more uncomfortable and distasteful. At that point, we finished our drinks and left. What should have been a simple stop for a drink turned into an experience where we felt judged, unwelcome, and disrespected. I personally would not return here, and based on our experience I wouldn’t recommend this bar to people of color
If I could give this bar a zero stars, I would. We came here on Monday night around 1 a.m., when the bar was empty and completely dead. We each got a drink and then decided to play billiards with our friends(3 of us). This is where things started to get messy. After we paid for our game($2), an older creepy guy came up to us saying things like, “Make it tight and move forward a little,” etc. I stayed calm and said, “Hey, Im sorry. we’re new here and we’re just trying to play together” Then he said, “Hey, it’s my turn!” We were like, “WTH?” The table was empty, and nobody was in the room until we started playing. Then he pulled out his card and said, “Hey! I won the previous game.” I replied, “Oh, I’m sorry. We had no idea.” He then said, “Those are the rules. Whoever won the last game gets to stay for the next one.” We were like, “Seriously, dude? We don’t care.” We paid for our game, and you came out of nowhere. Then we spoke to the bartenders, and both of them confirmed that whoever won the last game gets to stay for the next one. I said, “Why don’t you write that on the wall or post a sign explaining this rule?” Seriously, this is absurd! He then insisted on sticking around and waiting for his next turn with no one at the bar.
This place is a ripoff and the staff is rude. I only gave the service 2 stars because the bouncer was nice. We went on my friend's birthday and he made a big deal about it being her birthday. Staff basically ignored us while we waited at the wrong bar to order. Then when we finally did I almost spent $40 bucks for 3 beers. There were other places nearby with better staff and cheaper prices.
Edit: Make us pay for the pool table while raising beer prices… ok. Shrink the table to 6 feet? Good lord. What’s going on with this place. I get the kids are funding the fun on the weekends because it’s close to the L, but get a grip. No more padronism from me. It was a great neighborhood spot, my go to for years; but with so many other options, there’s not much left here to draw me in. No dogs. Prices have gone up. Pool is no longer free. At least the bar staff are still (mostly) friendly. Unfortunate, but I get that things change.
Terrible Experience - Rude Staff and Awful Service. I rarely write reviews, but our experience at this bar was so bad that I feel compelled to warn others. The bartender had a horrible attitude from the moment we started ordering. We had friends with us who wanted to order multiple drinks, and my husband was nothing but polite while placing the order. Despite this, the bartender was shockingly rude. It got worse when we spoke to the manager. He was just as rude, if not worse. The complete lack of customer service from both the bartender and the manager was unacceptable. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Rude staff and zero professionalism.
i will start with positive… i always used to come here before the pandemic, rad spot. this is my first time since back in my old neighborhood. the dude with the stash, super rude service, if you ask a simple question he snaps at you. also, beware of you pay credit card they charge 4% they do not disclose that in advance . i asked the bartender if i had paid CASH would i have been charged tax. he totally lost it… he might have been on his monthly cycle🤭 i love nyc. but it’s people like this that ruin it for the nice new yorkers. i got a special called “miller low life” ( miller beer with a whiskey shot) $9 the bill came out to $11.15. they are also rated C for sanitation. i choose happiness. these bozos are so bitter. i feel sorry for them. 🤡sending this poor guy love. 🙆🏻♀️🪽
