Heavy Woods Brooklyn Reviews
Creole New Orleans is here in BROOKLYN NY. Every white sauce is delectable and too die for. Yes with almost every meal the sauce included is white but hides bursting flavorful essence. I would recommend the gf fried pickles a quick go to. Quick pick me up great price and the sauce will WOW your taste buds. The impossible burger was cooked to perfection with melted cheese just how I like it. Crisp salad with great homemade Cesar salad dressing. The catfish was unexpected, if bar food had a competition they won. So many finger food items. The catfish was cut into decent flavored strips with Cajun fries on side all fried to perfection. Although I cheated my diet I’m glad I did. Another WOW bursting flavorful sauce included. Don’t take my word for it try it yourself. Expedite service and a full bar with awesome music to build the vibe while you settle. Awesome space to catch up with friends and have a vibe with varied party anesthetics.
We hold Heavy Woods in high regard! The food offers surprising taste experiences. You'll notice the distinct character immediately. Staff members show genuine kindness to diners. This place earns superior marks.
I really want to play pool and I also had some downtime between meeting my friends later in that day. So I went and I got a beer and I played some pool. There was only one other person playing so I asked if she wanted to play with me and we had a great time. The bartender was very polite and there was lots of room because it was midday. I was a bit hungry so I got the Kale Caesar with the crispy chicken, which was amazing.
Amazing fun place! Sundays bingo from 4-6. I won a tshirt! The drinks are excellent and super affordable around $12 for a cocktail, the drink I got was so refreshing and delicious. I also got the catfish po boy which was piled high. The catfish was so good and flavorful. There was slaw and pickles on it as well and the tots had a Cajun seasoning to them. Everything was fried perfectly, i did not feel gross after at all. It was a huge serving and tasted so fresh and delicious. Bartenders and staff are so nice and welcoming. I wish I lived in Brooklyn! Would come here more often.
Always a good time here. Normally I am served on Sundays by Shannon who is great but this past Sunday I met Joe, who is new, but a really cool guy. I like to play pool but don’t want to recommend that because then there is more competition for the table. Nice outdoor space, good prices, cool people. Dog friendly so often many dogs inside. Don’t go if you are afraid of dogs
Really cool cozy place with a great atmosphere. Food was really good and the drinks were made well. Staff was pretty helpful and accommodating. I had the Oyster Po' Boy and the Crawfish Mac & Cheese which were both amazing. The New York Smash was such a great drink, I had two (tempted to go for a third). If you're looking for a place to get some work done or to converse over drinks, this place isn't a bad choice at all.
No clear direction as to where you would have to place your order, we were not greeted upon entering just ignored for 20 minutes (it was super dead) the bartenders were just talking to each other and we weren’t acknowledged until my friend went to the bar and asked where to order. We had to be asked to be given paper menus to order food and drinks. The main things we were there for which were gumbo and jambalaya were listed on the menu and then we tried to order were told they didn’t have. Drink menu also had no prices. Walked out after that not worth it.
Just wanted to say I hated wasting 27 dollars in this place for a awful burger that I couldn’t eat and a seltzer with cranberry. The prices don’t match the quality, this place it’s cool to just get drunk and play pool with friends, the staff is okay not so attentive, looks like they dislike working there. There’s way better options for you buck in the area.
I randomly picked this place so I can take my sister to lunch. While I was not blown away, I found it had it's charm. I ordered the nachos and Brussells Sprouts. My sister ordered the pulled pork sandwhich. Nothing was amazing. But it was not terrible. The french fries were the best thing as well as the drinks made by the bartender. He was nice. Asked us if we were ok twice. Wasn't overbearing. But available enough to tend to our requests when needed. All in a ll it's a no frills bar. Pool and ping pong in the back.....would return for drinks not food.
Heavy Woods used to be one of those Bushwick spots where you could count on a solid plate of food to cut through the noise. Burgers smashed right on the grill, gumbo with some backbone. You went for the food, not just the drinks. Now the prices keep climbing while the soul leaks out. Burgers taste like they came out of a freezer box. The gumbo is so flat you wonder if anyone in the kitchen even tasted it. And the tab at the end feels like a joke when you know there are better places all around the neighborhood. It is sad really. Heavy Woods had something once. These days it just does not make sense to go back.
This place is just okay. We decided to go there because we were early for our night out at the Sultan Room next block. We thought we could have a few drinks here before heading over. But let me tell you, it was not a good decision at all. When we walked in, we asked the waitress for a table and she responded in the most unpleasant tone, saying we could sit wherever we wanted. Then, when I tried to place an order for food and drinks, that lady made us go from one end of the bar to the other with some stupid excuse, and that's when I had enough. I told my friend to take care of the order and drinks from that point on. And speaking of drinks, they were a total disappointment. I ordered a hotty toddy, a lemon whiskey cocktail, and an IPA beer, but none of them were good except IPA beer lol. I mean, sure, I could drink them, but they were far from being enjoyable. The fries were hot, I'll give them that, but the tater tots and the burger were just not a good choice. I mean, seriously, how hard is it to get the tater tots right? Unbelievable!
Bro I came here with a friend and we were id’d. They checked her id and gave it back in an instant.but when they checked mine they literally inspected every corner of it, claiming it looked unfamiliar. I use this id for everything and the bald guy was giving me issues about it. He was just being racist at this point, it was disrespectful and unnecessary.
The staff make you feel unwelcome the moment you come in. Especially this one sad bald man with a beard who miserably chainsmokes outside all the time, awful energy. It basically repulses everyone away. Its not my fault they're burnt out from trying to settle and gentrify in my neighborhood, its a spot for regulars and cliques to be honest. Wouldn't recommend this place. Walked right out.
We came in to play pool and were told by the bartender we had to buy food or drinks to get quarters. Fine, my boyfriend ordered a beer. Not even a minute later, another couple walked up and got quarters without buying a single thing. When I asked why, the bartender snapped back that “they’re regulars” and brushed it off. That kind of favoritism and rude attitude is unacceptable. We came ready to spend money and enjoy ourselves, but instead got treated like second-class customers. If this is how they run their business, they don’t deserve anyone’s regularity. We won’t be back—and I’d strongly advice others not to waste their time here either.
Absolutely Disgusting Experience – Discriminatory and Unprofessional Behavior If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I came in with my sister and friends for what was supposed to be a fun night out, but instead, I experienced the most disrespectful and discriminatory treatment I’ve ever faced at any establishment. The bartender – flat-out refused to serve me without giving any reason. He served my friends. He served my sister. But when it came to me? He ignored me completely and moved on like I didn’t exist. I asked why, and was met with complete silence and attitude. There’s no other way to call it: this was targeted, personal, and racist. Here’s the part they probably didn’t expect: I work for the health department. I know exactly what standards businesses are expected to uphold — not just in sanitation, but in conduct, professionalism, and equal treatment of all guests. What I witnessed here was a blatant violation of that, and I won’t just be writing this review — I’ll be escalating it to the appropriate channels as well. This behavior is unacceptable, disgusting, and absolutely shameful. No one should ever be made to feel like they’re unwelcome or less than, especially when money is being spent and respect is the bare minimum. Management seriously needs to evaluate who they’ve hired, because this bartender is not only a liability to the business — he’s a walking lawsuit waiting to happen. Avoid this place like the plague. I won’t be back — and trust me, neither will anyone I know. This is the guy !! Be careful everyone!
