One of if not my favorite restaurant in the city, MaLa Project is a place I have been returning to for years. The staff are friendly and make you feel at home in the neighborhood. I love spicy food, and MaLa Project can deliver *real* spicy - not just a little of zest that others call spicy.

On a recent trip to NYC, I had the fortunate experience of dining at the Mala Project in Greenpoint, NY. It was Christmas Day 2025, and we were immediately welcomed warmly as we walked in the door. Our server, Hailey was friendly and attentive. Ava, our bartender was so welcoming and even helped with suggestions. The manager, Gee, came to our table to greet us and make sure we were comfortable. The food was fabulous and the service was outstanding. We were encouraged to take our time and enjoy the experience. I really felt like I was part of the family. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a fantastic dinning experience! Thank you Ava, Hailey, Gee and the entire staff.

The food is phenomenal and so are the ambience and the service! I love to come here for the dry pot. I wish they still sold Chinese baijiu! It’s a perfect pairing with the spicy Szechuan flavors :)

For a flavorful and affordable meal, try their Chinese cuisine, and don't miss the exceptional service from staff like Sofia, who creates a welcoming atmosphere and takes the time to explain the dishes and get to know customers. You'll even get a glimpse into the kitchen and meet the cooks. This place is definitely worth checking out. (POSITIVE VIBES ONLY!!!!)

We arrived just minutes before the end of Happy Hour, but our server, Ava, didn't hesitate to make sure we squeezed in our orders. We got the scallion pancakes, leftover fried rice, and sirloin steak with broccoli, and the food was easily 10/10. The drinks were fantastic, too. I loved the Dr. Yīshēng cocktail even more than the already-improved lychee martini. I absolutely need to come back to try more of the menu!

Anytime my friends and I go out to eat, someone in the chat brings up Mala Project and we end up there in Greenpoint every single time! It’s our absolute favorite restaurant in New York. The food is amazing and we love that you can choose your spice level and cater to so many dietary restrictions, so our vegetarian friends can make their own amazing drypot. Love the scallion pancakes and the “little spicy” sauce- so good with the fish filet and boy choi! The seaweed fish fritters are also so crispy and delicious. The cocktails are a great addition to balance out the meal. I’ve never had anything there I didn’t like there. Highly recommend going for a birthday, since they have a delicious birthday treat. It’s also a beautifully decorated space that is bigger than you think- check out the back room. Make sure to take a pic in the old-school black and white Photo Booth too! The service is so friendly and the staff genuinely treat you like old friends- shoutout to Ryan and Sofia for being so amazing! We love Mala Project <3

Super cute and cozy spot! Perfect for solo dining or small group. I tried the Dan Dan noodle, ma po tofu, scallion pancake. Everything was delicious and flavorful! Spice level was good too. The quantity is a lot. They also have a cute Photo Booth

I had an excellent experience from the service to comfort, stopped in on a humble just a spur of the moment. Food was delicious 😋 hadn’t had duck in a while also wanted something different than my regular choices of food . Let me tell you … the Duck Salad was EVERYTHING ! Tore it up no dressing just the juices from the duck - clean dish. 😋 Taste and satisfaction on a plate. I’ve been thinking about it ever since.. I will return and I truly recommend trying.

Never actually ate here but I get take out ALL the time. The lunch special pricing is amazing. The value is SO GOOD. And the dry pot is always perfectly cooked and delicious. The least spicy has a really good balance of spice and flavor. If you like it spicier, the regular spicy is quite a bit hotter, but still very flavorful. The soy ginger is OK, I think you need it to be spicy to be tasty.

Had some friends in town, so wanted to check out this spot. It’s a really chill spot, the food was good and came out quick. Staff was super chill! Everything was amazing! Will be back

Food and service were amazing! For those who like spicy, level 3 was sufficient to enjoy the dry pot with nice heat. Would def recommend getting a few apps as well!

Super cute place! The atmosphere was really nice and there was a photo booth in the bar/dining area. The servers were also really attentive. Food was good and very flavorful! I don't normally eat spicy food, but the Little Spicy (2nd level of spice) was good for me. The dry pot pairs well with rice or noodles so I would recommend getting it together. The scallion pancakes were also super crispy and the sauce was good! The mala dry pot was enough for 2 people (+ takeout). Overall, a great meal and I would recommend for a yummy and filling dinner.

Have you ever ate at a place and enjoyed the full flavor of every dish that you tasted? Well this place was wonderful. Each dish was unique and so flavorful. I loved the soup, fried rice, and fish. We made our own drypot too. The mixed drink I got was tasty. And they have a happy hour until 7pm, with $3 off. The staff was friendly and helpful. And the place was not to busy. I hope to visit again soon.

Fell in love with Dry pot my last trip that during this past weekend when visiting NY, I ate dinner there two days in a row. I am obsessed with the great taste. The staff is amazing! Shout out to Ben and Ryan....they are great. I hope they expand to the West Palm Beach area soon.

I loved the place. Please know that the acoustic is very loud in the back room. The front room is quieter. Book accordingly. The food is nice, a bit spicy. Ask for mild in case you're sensitive. Service is nice and the decor is lovely.

Greenpoint has not many authentic Chinese restaurants, MáLà is definitely one. I like their dry pot, you can choose your own ingredients and the level of spicy, they prepare it for you. Depending on how many items you like to put in, it could be enough for 2-3 people. Another item I want to recommend is Beijing ChǎoBǐng, it is a dish from Beijing region and mixed with Chinese pancake slices, veggies, and pork or beef. It is hard to find in restaurants in nyc but Mala Project has it and it tastes amazingly.

Vibrant and cozy interior with delicious food. My friends and I shared a dry pot which was great. However the tastiest dishes in my opinion were the cold noodle salad (spicy) steamed beef dumplings and the scallion pancakes.

The service was great, and the atmosphere was a Brooklyn vibe. However, I was a not blown away with the food. The dumplings had thick dough that overpowered the filling, and the house noodles had very little meat included. The duck tacos were served cold and overpowered by the guacamole on top. I would definitely order the scallion pancakes again with the amazing dipping sauce. Overall, a pleasant experience, but the food fell a bit short of expectations.

Cute place. Came here based on Reddit lunch discussion. Service was a little cold. Dry bowl lunch special was over seasoned - could hardly taste the lamb flavor over all the spice and sauce. The middle option on the tip (22%) was selected when the credit card machine was handed over. I’d never seen that before.

We dined here for Valentine’s Day after I personally confirmed the prix fixe details with the general manager beforehand. I wanted to make sure the experience would feel organized and special, which is why I called in advance. When we arrived, we were seated promptly, which we appreciated. However, the execution of the prix fixe meal did not match what was discussed. We had to ask for the Valentine’s menu after initially being given the regular one, and only our entrée was served at first. The other courses that were included — including dim sum, the dry pot, and dessert — were either delayed or not properly presented as part of a structured multi-course experience. For a holiday prix fixe at this price point, the overall flow felt disorganized and incomplete. It didn’t feel like a curated Valentine’s experience, it felt more like a standard meal with pieces missing. To their credit, management did respond afterward and offered a partial refund, which I appreciate. I’m sharing this feedback because I think holiday service, especially at premium pricing, needs stronger coordination and attention to detail. I hope this helps the restaurant improve going forward.

Missed the mark, I came here with my family after seeing it plastered all over social media and it was not the experience we were expecting. From the moment we walked in, the girl at the front informed us she needed the table in an hour and a half because we didn't reserve, but on their own website and on Resy, their reservations for this evening were completely open. We came as a family outing but it was very undesirable, even the waiter? (Maybe?) And the same host wouldn't stop coming to the table like they were trying to hurry us to order to get in and out. I won't be back to this location based on this experience. We ordered drinks and Duck Tacos to go because it was just not the welcoming vibe we were hoping for especially when we eat Dry Pot in Flushing all the time. The Duck Tacos took a bit which is fine as I saw tons of Togo orders going by. They tasted okay but they were also cold? My only intuition is they tried to westernize a Bao. So now I don't know why we waited so long for them. Maybe it's better to order out than visit this particular location of the chain. Your mileage may vary, it wasn't for us.

Neither food we ordered nor my drink did was good. especially if you guys love eating protein, meat this place is really bad, amount of meat they put in plates just a joke. Flavors were off too. Definitely not coming back

We found hair in our delivery order. Food was great otherwise. Will never eat here again, this was disgusting
