Masala King Brooklyn Reviews
Absolutely incredible food and customer service. This is up there with some of the best Indian food we’ve ever had! And to top it off, one of the mains was 50% off which made it even better. Very good value for money! Also, we highly recommend the peshwari, and garlic and cheese naan! If we had found this place earlier in our holiday we would have definitely came for a second time!
My siblings and I were in the area and looking for a bite to eat. We stumbled upon this place. Goodness. The food was delicious. The portion sizes were huge. 1 order of Butter Chicken could feed 2 people. Naan was made fresh to order and I was able to see them making it. This is hands down the best Indian food I've ever had. The older woman was so sweet. The servers were also excellent.
Very good spot for Indian food in the area, and lunch! If you can't get all the way to Little India, this is a good place to go in Midtown. Last time I went, there was a buffet lunch option and it was an excellent bargain. However, I am not 100 percent sure if that is still there. The options at rhe buffet reflect items on the menu. So you had tandoori chicken, naan, saag, and all sorts of delicious things that go perfectly with rice. I must give particular words of emphasis for the naan and tandoori chicken, because the naan is delightfully cooked and obviously roasted in-house in a proper oven. The spots of char are inconsistent, rightfully so, and they put a splash of luscious oil atop that gives it even more heft. The tandoori chicken is amazingly tender and not dry, with a good flavor from marinade. It's easy to leave full everytime. There are also some items from their main, Ala carte menu that are great, and this also includes large portions that are great for lunch. The owners are very kind and attentive. The space itself stretches in and the front is well lit. You can see the chef working his magic in a small enclosure with glass. Overall, a very satisfying experience.
The chicken tikka masala and the coconut curry shrimp were amazing. The garlic naan and the samosas were outstanding. 100% recommended for traditional and delicious Indian food. For reference, we got the “medium” sauces and they weren’t spicy at all. Would recommend to order the spicy ones if you’re into that. Loved this places ❤️
My first Indian food experience, and I’m glad I had it here. We were greeted as we entered, menu is online and they took our order timely . Really great customer service. We ordered chicken samosas for starters , it was amazing. I had the waiter choose an option for me, we had shrimp curry too. The garlic Naan bread , as well as the butter. The whole experience was amazing
Had a nice meal here and the owner Kush is a great host and very friendly. 4.6 stars: goat biriyani and the peshawari naan 4.3 stars: saag paneer and the carrot gajar halwa dessert (It was served cold and I think it's better served hot) 3.5 stars: goat vindaloo (the sauce was a bit too tomato sauce like, not quite enough Indian flavor, I wish I could describe it better but I'm not familiar enough with this recipe to point out which spices were missing). We ordered the prix fixe which was overall a pretty good value.
The ambience is Fine! The Food is Good! Clean restrooms. There is a Live Kitchen for the breads, which is a plus point for the customers who are new to the Indian Cuisine. The service is warm and nice. Although the lights at night are not good at all...they should change it ASAP. It was a blue lighting and it made the overall dining experience a bit lousy.
Excellent lunch buffet, they serve you naan on demand and the food is delicious. Exactly what you expect from a good Indian buffet. Assorted pakodas were great, 6 kinds of vegetables and 3 deserts. Plenty to variety. Keep up the good taste and quality Note: the owner is a very nice person, talked to me a couple of times and followed up about the food quality.
This restaurant feels like a hidden gem. The food here is great, everything is freshly made and you can tell the chef really enjoys what he is making. We had some family visiting from India who had a very specific diet (Jain - no root vegetables) and the chef was able to accommodate us. The food was well seasoned and spiced and was a good quantity for the price. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. A few things, the restaurant looks a little run down, it just needs a small make over. The glassware and dishware looks old and has a lot of scratches on it. I also think the bathrooms need to be properly cleaned. They smelled so bad - it was hard to even go in there to wash our hands. The doors also stick and don't close all the way and the smells can travel to your table if you're close enough. Insta: @TheShahLALand
We had pretty good food here. The service was friendly. The Tikka masala was a little more tomato based then we're used to but it was still good. The rice serving was small for the curry portion. When I asked if we could get more rice, they said it was a $4 charge. However, we had ordered a second dish (tandoori chicken) that came with rice and they made us wait for that dish to get the second bowl of rice. The tandoori took a long time to come out and by that time the curry was gone. We just dipped bread in it because we were out of rice. It was annoying and kind of ruined the meal. The tandoori chicken was a small portion for the price and we've had much better. We wouldn't order it again. The atmosphere was comfortable.
Had dinner here. Its a cozy place walking distance from herald sqaure/Macy. We had veg pakora, daal, bbq platter and gula jamun. The food is tasty, daal was really good. Spice are on higher side for our taate though we asked medium. The service was attentive. The matter was surprising that we were not shown the bill but was confirmed verbally and then we were asked to pay, so didn't knew what amount of tip included which should be at customer discretion. This was being done with all (saw another table customer also astonished) and should be changed, as customer bill should be shown. This was not expected and didn’t like/understood (rating3.5)
My disclaimer is that I came here during lunch on a Sunday where I was the only customer: I ordered the lamb Rogan Josh but was a bit underwhelmed. I believe they have a buffet, which would justify the flavor department, and might consider coming back during peak traffic
PROs - location, meat curry , naan CONs - slightly expensive , service , vegetarian curry , ambience First timer . Was walking by 34th street and was craving Indian food . Saw this place via Google reviews and wanted to try . I don’t think it is a 4 star ⭐️ restaurant like in Google reviews. For me it is 2.5 star restaurant but gave it 3 stars . ⭐️ I actually didnt like ambience much . They play gurunanak song (high sound) and it was like a temple . I liked the music , but wanted a better ambience in a restaurant.. thali was about 20$ plus tax/tips - 26$ . There are so many other restaurants in Lexington which is much better and cheaper . Service was average ! The guy didn’t even give water till after 10 mins when I asked him. Took about 20-25 mins for the food to come .. place had a bar too.. . Naan was good . Meat curry was good too. Like home made . Vegetarian curry wasn’t good . It was sweeeeeeeeet . Didn’t eat the veggie food much . Dhal was ok . Overall a very average experience and will probably not go back .
Food was okay. Price is very misleading and I was overcharged. Their website says the entree comes with rice but when in store the curry entree does not include rice, is $1 more than listed and to order rice is an extra $5. I've never eaten at an Indian restaurant that rice was not included with the curry and to charge $5 ontop seems excessive. I asked about this and the lady was kind and said they wouldnt charge me for it but then snuck it in the bill at end end anyways. Plenty of other good Indian restaurants in the area that dont do this deceptive behavior that I'll continue to visit instead.
Very dishonest people! The offered us a lunch special with the second entree at half price. We ordered four things: 2 entrees, samosa and a mango lassi. The bill came to $57. I couldn't believe it. I tried to add up the numbers but they brought it to me on a credit card machine only showing a few numbers and the total on the screen. The food and the bill had taken so long to come that we were now late to our next appointment. I paid the bill feeling something wasn't right, but didn't have time to fight. That evening I checked their menu prices and saw that the bill should have been $45 plus tax. I noticed that they had also increased the price of one item by $3 compared to the menu price, and I don't know how they inflated the rest. So, they cheated me. I will never go back, and I am still angry about being ripped off. The food wasn't bad so it's a real shame they resort to this sort of dishonest practice.
I had high hopes from the place, but it came up much low on my expectations. I ordered Samosa chat, daal makhani rice and kheer. To begin with Samosa chat had bad chic peas and it felt as it was already slimy in taste, means they were not very fresh boiled or soaked. Then with daal makhani and rice I had a similar taste, as if the legumes, daal were too soaked or not fresh. I also managed to save one of my molars as I got. Very hard substance to chew on. Must be a stone or some unground spice. Lastly the kheer, I wish I took something else. Because kheer was overtly sweet. Truly - I won't recommend this place unless you have now where else to be. I paid by credit card, and was charged a 3.5% over and above all. Their printed menu prices are wrong, as I asked for printed menu, because I could not scan and use their online menu due to no internet. They don't have wifi either to support.
