Mr. Tong Brooklyn Reviews
Basic Chinese-American takeout but the food taste fresher with better ingredients than you would find at the typical takeout spot. I had the beef and broccoli combination. The beef did not have the common chewy and gristly texture that is typical of most places. It tasted good and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meat. Rice was cooked perfect with no stale or burnt pieces. In addition, the pork fried rice had nice chunky pieces of pork. Egg roll that came with the combination was not overly greasy and didn't have that weird oil taste. Crispy outside and great texture inside. Seems like they're better about changing their oil. For those who want to dine in, the location is clean and spacious, you'll find a visble A rating outside the window. No sticky tables, chairs or strong unpleasant smells. Service is really fast, as others have mentioned. That being said, I should state that I placed my order at the location so I didn't experience any of the service issues others have mentioned through phone ordering. Overall, this is a much better Chinese takeout spot in comparison to what you'd find around the Kensington area.
The food Gods have blessed this place. You can see the time and attention they put into the preparation of the food. I believe I have found another hidden gem to add to my takeout menu rack. It's a small store but it provides a nice view with big windows. Amazingly clean. I'm returning to work through the menu.

Been eating at this restaurant since 2014 since we moved to the neighborhood- the food is consistently delicious with good ingredients and the owners + team are very nice. Can’t wait for my next order.
Food quality has improved. Chicken and broccoli is great. Boneless ribs are good and come with a free soda or egg roll after an amount spent.

As takeout Chinese places go, this is one of the better ones. Food is always consistent and good. Their delivery is insanely quick- as soon as I hang up the phone I have to be ready to answer the door. Almost always under 20 minutes. My favorite go-to is Moo Goo Gai Pan but everything I get from them is good and fresh.
I came here for my mom's birthday and I have to say im impressed. El Patron has great authentic food and a good staff. The place gets packed easily, but the wait is well worth it. I would call and make reservations in advance before making a the trip El Patron.
I have been a customer since 2007 I ordered chicken and broccoli last night and the chicken is different. the texture is soft and it feels like processed chicken with skin in t. scaled today to ask if they changed their chicken they said it is white meat and they use the same supplier. They also said they have not gotten any complaints. I will only order vegetables in the future or meat with bones.

Mr. Tong still has their own delivery man so you don't HAVE to order through GrubHub or other delivery services. The first time I ordered, the food was quite delicious. I ordered steamed shrimp and snow peas with white rice and brown sauce on the side. They sent it to me with most of the vegetables being snow peas but with other vegetables in it too. I can forgive that because I love CHINESE vegetables (snow peas, water chestnuts, bok choy, mushrooms, baby corn, etc.) and I HATE Chinese restaurants that offer only American vegetables (broccoli and carrots, etc.). That is one thing I consider to be wonderful about this place -- the CHINESE vegetables. Their brown sauce is INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS 😋 too!! The second time I ordered from them, I ordered pork lo mein but I'm afraid it didn't taste good. And the roast pork egg roll was a little burnt on the outside. From now on I'm going to stick with steamed foods with brown sauce on the side. I suggest you do the same.

Ordered fried Jumbo shrimp & got it fried in dumpling batter...idk who has ever fried food with dumpling batter but i highly doubt that their fried chicken is in dumpling batter. Called to ask for regular fried Jumbo shrimp & was dealt with rudely. Don’t know about any of their other food but make sure they understand what kind of food you’re requesting.

The fried rice was odd. Fried chicken on the dry side. Been here a couple of times and was unsatisfied. The most recent time I just threw the food away because I couldn't eat it, though I dislike wasting food.
I am in complete awe of how drastically the prices have increased!!! Insane…. the food doesn’t have the same fresh taste any longer. This is coming from someone that have tried Mr. Tong’s for years. I’m just honestly in disbelief of the prices. A regular egg roll or shrimp roll that all other establishments sell for $1.35 - $1.50, here they now sell it for $3!!! I hope they remain in the community and still attract the same customers, otherwise, overtime I can see this establishment closing down.

my daughter went to get food they thought they could rob a young girl by charging $8 for a little rice and a little Brooklyn when I normally get a full size for that price. Definitely will not order from here again since they take advantage of innocent kids.
Owner is very rude and dislikes anybody in the neighborhood that isn’t white. Gives nasty looks at minority students that attended the school across the street and treats customers badly. Never giving them my business again. Food isn’t all that good either.
disrespectful and rushed me when i was trying to decide what to order, ordered for me when i wanted something different, then told me to hurry up or leave. also said “go pizzeria or something if you not orda somtin” after i specifically told him i was still deciding. i shouldn’t have to feel rushed. if you can’t handle customer service then you shouldn’t have a restaurant.
Pretty regular customer and never had a problem until today. The lady was super nasty and charged us a dollar for SAUCE SHE HAD LAYING ON THE COUNTER FOR PEOPLE TO USE. Kicked us out and was just not welcome at all. The people who were sitting behind us were adults and didn't have to pay for the hot sauce they were hogging. Fries are ok and good value but your service has led you to losing a customer and his friends.
Ordered food and found hair in my food for the THIRD TIME. I then called the restaurant telling them about the hair in my food and the rude woman picked up the phone starts yelling and telling me that it was my hair and never to come back to the restaurant. The staff is rude and disrespectful and the food is not worth the money. I would definitely recommend you to save your money and spare yourself from the possibility of finding hair in your food and take your business else where. I would give zero stars if it was an option. 0/10 would not recommend.
By far, the worst chinese restaurant in brooklyn New York. The customer service is non-existent. And not put mention they ONLY TAKE CASH.
I have been ordering from this place for the past 10 years and never had a problem until tonight. The woman on the phone was rude and couldn't understand me when taking the order I just let it go because I really like the owner and he's always been very nice to me. My order was wrong when it arrived so I called and the same lady picked up the phone and said that I ordered wrong because I didn't understand her!! LOL She hung up on me! I called again and spoke to the owner this time and he was very rude too and said he was very busy! Well I wasn't having it so I went there with my order, demanded my money back and told them I was never going to order from them again they didn't even care!!!!! So, let's say I did order wrong (which I know I didn't bc I order the same all the time) isn't the customer always right? I know if that was my business and I had a customer for 10 years I would not treat them that way! I could see if I complained all the time but this is the FIRST time I ever called them about my order being TOTALLY wrong!!! And they always forget to put fortune cookies in my order and I never bothered them. What is Chinese food without fortune cookies?!
Called to place and order and the lady that answered the phone was very rude and nasty. I requested that they substitute, the rice for mix vegetables. She still said no. Even after I said that I would pay more for the substitution. Instead of complying this very rude woman hung the phone up on me. At first I thought that it was an accident so I called back and she hung the phone up on me a 2nd time. As a result of this terrible customer service I am leaving this review.
As of lately I’ve been experiencing a lack of friendliness. I’ve been charged for extra sauce and the wings are questionably small. I don’t expect stuff like this from a predominantly working class neighborhood. This is Windsor Terris “how dare you”! Hamilton’s, however is quite delicious.
